Or just do it when its current, you have multiple months to get it, so no. It's not "ethical" to do it that way, it's just lazy. If you dont want to do the content, dont, it's a glam, you dont NEED it.
Except its not currency, you need to do the malmstones to get it, you have 3 to 4 months to get it, you have all the time in the world.
Currency is easy as hell to get, I'm capped on it all the time just by playing it extra casually doing a few games every few days, so no.
Either you put in the work while its current, which you have months to get, and you get the glam, or you dont.
Bless SE devs for replacing top100 exclusive PvP items with an exclusive item grind season - while the live letter got translated in a way that made people assume exclusivity is finally gone. I was worried for a second we wouldn't get salty threads anymore.
weve talked about this time and time again, FOMO is bad design
theres very little other content where the rewards are gone forever if youre not there to do it, new players can still do old ultimates, they havnt gone away. Seasonal events get put in the cashop the next year. Theres no reason to not have old rewards come back later for new people to grind for.
Also, this still keeps PVP alive, as if you tie it to PVP CURRENCY, then it will remain
I mean we can agree to disagree, I think the system is fine as it is, if you cant do the content in 4 months of time, which barely takes any time at all, it is what it is, then you wont get the reward tied to it, I think that's perfectly fine. I dont expect to get things from the past given to me because I didnt play back then, some things are exclusive and it is what it is, and yes that means even via currency, World of Warcraft also has the elite set that is exclusive for the pvp season, and I see nothing wrong with that.
Yeah there should be content for people that like PvP and that is what this is. But PvP is a social activity in this game and they eliminated the ability for those who like to pvp to form teams and build strategy. Even if someone likes pvp, it is hard pressed to say that the kind of pvp the people who are playing this like is the same kind that people who play true pvp games, like league of legends or counter strike, enjoy. Enjoying PvP isn't a binary yes or no situation: one persons pvp isn't the others. And unfortunately the issue right now is that even the most enjoyable of activities can become a problem if they add nothing but new rewards and no new gameplay to go along with it.
Well it reads atleast like being talked down to, not that post but a few from before.
My problem is: I get the critic, at not being able to form teams, i also would like to play in teams with my friends but i got used to it. I can enjoy the game-mode. I get even the critic that "fomo" is not a ideal concept but what really grinds my gear is the entitelment.
And yes it is entitelment. You advocat that everybody should get the glam and the mounts and the pets but.. why? Why should everybody gets them? Why is it so bad that some things are unique? The glam will be a nostalgic reminder for me a few years in the future. That i started pvp there and got that as my first glam. It lets my look at people who have it as buddys, comrades that share the same passion as me.
last but not least...it is not even that much of a grind, i had to grind much more for the aar-relic.
It's funny that the argument people are using to defend FOMO pass systems are:
1. "Rewards should take effort."
and
2. "It doesn't take that long anyway."
First, whether you play 100 games over a year, or a 100 games in a month, the effort is same. You played 100 games. The problem isn't with the "effort", it's that we have to make that effort in a specific time frame when many of us don't have that kind of time, or at the very least don't want to spend what time we have on a game mode we dislike because if we don't we're barred out of the rewards forever. We're not arguing that they "be handed out for free" like people keep arguing without actually reading what they're responding to. We just want the time limitation removed because FOMO passes have always been manipulative and unpleasant.
Second, it doesn't matter if "it doesn't take that long", you're talking about 15 straight hours of nothing but PVP. Some of us want to space it out, some us would like to do other things, but just the EXISTENCE of the FOMO pass means we have that stress about having to eventually go back to the grind.
We don't time limit relics, or Ultimates, or anything other than seasonal events which take an hour TOPS. I really don't understand how hard it is to just agree that so long as you put in the time in those games, WHEN you play those games doesn't matter, you still put in the same effort as everyone else.
Got the coffer yesterday. From around Rank 10 it took me about 7-8ish hours of CC over the course of a few days.
This includes around 45 minutes worth of matches where I ran into stealth afkers that would suicide into the other team and then run in circles outside of the spawn point while I tried to fight into overtime.
It's not that bad. It really, really isn't.
It's literally laziness on their end, the grind is really not that bad, doing a game there and there will get you to it in a relatively short time, basically they dont want to play PVP but they are """forced""" to do it for the glam, they just "HAVE" to, and they think that they are somehow entitled to getting it in their own time, which apparently 4 months is not enough for them (wonder how much time they need, maybe 3 years will be enough?)
Surely a sensible compromise would be to have previous season rewards obtainable via other more grindy means? For example if for whatever reason you couldn't play FFXIV for a couple of months and ran out of time, have some kind of histroic vendor where you need to spend a bunch of wolf marks or trophy crystals for older rewards. To be clear I emphasize the grindy part since I agree to some extent that giving out the rewards for little to no effort after the season would make the season itself pointless, although I will say I've never been a fan of these 'Battlepass like' systems so if I had may way it would never be in the game. Having content that is time gated (excluding yearly events) is nearly always a terrible idea.
My method for Series Marks is to potter around doing a FL now and then for the first few months (I think I'm currently at level 9 iirc so have been super slacky so far), which I also use to slowly level up my alt Jobs. I might occasionally do a CC if I feel like it but otherwise don't bother unless it's in my WT Book, in which case I'll flip a few on the bounce for easy ticks. And then when the Moogle event lands, I grind out whatever's left over the course of the 4 weeks.
You get series rewards, a pvp currency for more items - which if nothing else you can also turn into Wolf Marks to buy ventures, and dark matter thingy's for self repairs. You get half a level of xp for every FL you do. You get stacks of Moogle tomestones if you have to grind it out near the end.
You get way more than just a glam set from the 14-15 hours of pvping you need to do. If the other benefits of doing it aren't of interest to you, that's absolutely fair enough, but it all still needs to be acknowledged as a reward for what - in MMO terms at least - is a pretty small time investment within a 4 month window.
As much as i dislike Frontilines in the game and being stunned a lot you can get a rank per day just doing your daily frontline and CC, i did all this and got rank 25 pretty quick just for the helmet (which isn't fully dyeable lol)
It's mathematically impossible to reach rank 25 in 4 hours, even if you won every single game in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. 120 CC wins are required to to reach 25, and are going to be closer to 5 minutes, TWICE as long.
Absolutely BEST case scenario, assuming you WON every game in 2.5 minutes, which won't happen without cheating, is 5 hours.
WORST case scenario, you lose every game and it's drawn out to 5+ minutes, making it about 13 hours.
On average, you're looking at about 11-12 hours of grinding CC games, at least 135-145.
No other content in the games makes you do a single kind of game mode THIS much, and additionally in such a short frame of time (except for maybe player housing), and it's unhealthy.
yeah, complete disagree, complete bullshit
adding it as a collar currency buy would have it so new people getting into it
1) still have to grind, "laziness" as an argument would no longer work, work still has to be done
2)would make pvp last a bit more per series so new people can get it after they hit milestone on whatever the current season pass is
having things gone forever is not grand
I got a better idea. How about adding more glam/mount rewards into further levels (e.g. up to 50 or 100) because these 25 go by in no time at all. I mean like 2 days for the grinders and around 2 weeks for people casually doing it. All I'm saying is it would be nice to have more to get out of each series since they last a whole 4 months and all.
The thing is, if the time limit wouldn't be there, a lot of people wouldn't do PvP. Maybe they would do it someday when they have no other things left. That could be in a few years or maybe even never. I myself would think the same way. And in all that time they would play the game without having these rewards. But as soon as something is just obtainable for a limited time, players feel the need to have it even if they otherwise wouldn't even bother to obtain them.
Even if PvP is good the participation wouldn't be much higher. The majority simply isn't interested in doing PvP.
Then maybe instead of putting in an AWFUL system like a FOMO pass to coerce players into playing PVP regularly they should just remove it and stop putting so much effort into a system people just don't want to play. "It hurts us to see people say this" be damned, if you're going to disrespect your players by using manipulative business tactics that low then I hope you DO feel hurt.
FOMO isn't real. Its made up nonsense.
You seem to be the only one who has been crying and is hurt for 10 pages because "i dont wanna do pvp but i want the rewards !!!!"
just let it go already, either do it or dont, no one cares in the end, but just stop whining
I dont like ultimates, I dont do ultimates
You dont like PVP, then dont do PVP
Easy as 123.
I dont complain I cant get the ultimate weapons, since I dont want to do the work for them.
You should do the same.
Imagine being a person that really has the fear of missing out something in theyre social life and endet up burnt out becaus of it, losing his/her job and really struggling with life.
Now Imagine that person, reading on the forum of an online game, that some nutjobs think time limited items are equal to that, and writting about getting burned out becaus of a stupid videogame.
