Main Scenario Restriction Bloodstorm - Very Very Bad idea.

If my best friend would start to play again... (He was forced to quit due his PS3 stopped working(was old model lol)

3 years later: He is still at ARR quest lv32 story quest. He would had bought a PS4 already IF only HW there Dark Knight class(his favourite) would be playable at once!
Not by doing the whole ARR story... wich takes really long! So he decided to be an XB1 user and dont think about having a SonyConsole

It's so braindead content nowadays that it's almost impossible to fail.

Jump potion is going to be a necessity at some point. Unless we want the game to wither and die because people don't want to commit 100+ hours to completing antiquated old xpac stories. I love the FF lore and MSQ but not everyone does. I want to see the game thrive; that means appealing to the broadest playerbase and not catering to the niche hardcore fandom that wants everyone to do x million things before they can catch up to their friends. I've had 6 RL friends join through recruit a friend. I've had 6 RL friends quit before reaching HW endgame. One of them would come back if they could get something like a jump potion so they could hang with me immediately.

Ethys made a good point in his jump potion video, my views pretty much align with his. It's either jump potion or they start reducing story content to cater to people that don't want to watch cutscenes. Why do that when you can just give them the option to skip. All you have to do is introduce a system similar to the one in WoW where you have to test for competency in hard mode dungeons before you can do them. Then you won't have to worry about scrubs slipping through the cracks with jump potions.

That's not an actual problem and you don't need that much time to learn the game.

They should have jump potions and using it should tag you with a New Adventurer status for X amount of time or until you complete a certain task.

Ive been playing the game about three months I have 4 characters all together for a few reasons. I have no problem with msq but I dont like that the areas are gated, or the jobs, Ive met people in game that literally all they want to do is craft, for them I dont think they should be cut off from mats they need if thats all they intend to do. So id say if they could figure out a way to let you reach areas by level instead of by msq that would be awesome for alot of people. If they cant do that maybe they could for those who just wana skip story just set up specific servers for people that would play with people just like them that just wanted to raid etc , and allow them to just play the content they want and that way it wouldnt effect other players if they sucked are didnt no as much about the game. Its a thought but if they had two or three servers where u could use a jump potion and get to the content you want I think that might work.

I don't think it'd be a great idea to simply skip the base game and the entire first expansion of the game. Well, perhaps players should be able to skip Heavensward (via a clever story transition from 2.x), but they should then have to enter Ala Mhigo at whatever level they are when they finish ARR. Also, if they were able to skip, how would the story explain away all the Scions new looks/ anything that happened that wasn't exclusively restricted to Ishgard?

If a jump potion is ever introduced, then it should level you to 60 but not let you skip story content. So, sure, you'd jump to 60 but you'd still have content gated by main story quest (unless you have a character that has already completed it).

That's just my opinion, though.

Well they have till early summur to go through the 2 MQS so that lives quite a time to do so. Plus, it's really easy to pex from 1 to 50 nowaday and we can imagine they'll do the same with the extension for lvl from 50 to 60

Seems like your FC is trying to just do end game stuff. Why do you not help your new players? It would not take that long to help them with dungeons rather than have them wait 40 minutes as you say. The mentality of the FC is a copy of the leader's mentality. Help them get to your level don't ask that the game get to the point that anyone can join at any time. We all paid our dues and so should new players.

most of the MSQ can't be helped, you just sit around waiting for them to do the fetch quests until they get to the next trial. even worse you wait for them to grind XP until they have the level required to enter the next dungeon/trial.

There is a reason this is classified as a "Role playing game"

better solution than a skip potion would be to make it so it is actually possible to co-op or group up with friends to help them complete old/main-scenario content.

THE biggest problem with friends/FC members getting bogged down in the old storyline content and quitting is they are forced to do it all alone and it's not possible to group up and help out with the more time-consuming fetch quests and explore the red circles missions.

Honestly, I was hoping they would restrict the new expansion areas behind MSQ again, even though they said they wouldnt for this next one.
Why would you come to an story driven mmo just to skip everything on the way and have absolutely no idea what is even happening around you in the world or the characters you interact with?

Sure it is boring if you want to bring friends into the game you enjoy playing for them not being able to play through the content the same time as you, but dont you also want them to experience everything that you have up until now aswell?
My suggestion is get them involved into the game before the expansion come out so they can enjoy and not rush through the story.

That being said I am also against the "Jump Potion" even if I understand the reason behind having one, but my reason for not wanting it is that; I am getting tired of meeting people in DF / PF on lv 50-60 that keeps saying "I pay my sub, I play how I want, Dont tell me what to do, How to play my game, Dont give out advice even though you got PvE Mentor status on, Who are you to judge my rotation that I click in my own made up order, No I dont want to read tool tips on my skills, Foe's Requiem lowers my own damage"

Maybe a little over the top but yes, I have met everyone of those and then some in my playtime since the 1.0 days and I dont want the Jump Potion to encourage more lazy attitude and quick-reward mindset, I feel that will ruin the game in the longrun more than helping.

Actually, the biggest issue with FFXIV 1.0 is exactly that it was too much like XI, gameplay-wise. It felt like I was playing a next-gen version of XI, instead of another game. Its gameplay was VERY dated.

Making niche games nowadays doesn't make you tons of money anymore. Just see at Wildstar and its attempt to gather the "hardcore raiders" back. Was a big success wasn't it?

Regardless, if people go to the "swimming pool" and "sit there next to the water", it's none of your concern: they paid to sit in that swimming pool and that's how they want to spend their money, and all they (the company who knows the pool) only care about their money.

It's the same here, however the difference is that before swimming you have to do some mandatory training, have a swimming license, sign some papers, read a book about diving and THEN you can finally dive in.
Suffice to say if I had to do all that stuff just to go to a swimming pool I would go to the beach...but then they (the company) will lose money, and that's bad no matter what angle you see it because it will make the price of tickets raise, they'll no longer offer free stuff at the bar and you'll eventually have to pay for your own swimsuits!

What I'm trying to say is, the more they gate the new players, the more it'll cost on US the current players to keep the game running by making more free stuff locked behind a paywall. Not even WoW does this...

Story is important yes, but alone it won't make the game go further. And 1.0 is a good reminder of that no matter how good, how famous and how story driven your franchise is, a crappy game with good story remains a crappy game.
And even then most people I knew told me that it sucked too, but I can't tell.

i don't wonder at all, lots of people just go there to tan, don't be so judgemental. if those people are going to keep paying their sub and buy expansions, they are not playing the wrong game. farming mounts matter to them, buying a house, getting a fish tank and completing the orchestration list matters to them, the storyline doesn't. i know multiple people like that who log in every day.

I'm conflicted about this because I definitely don't believe you should be able to jump immediately into the endgame, BUT I also don't think that so much needs to be gated behind the MSQ. Specifically, I don't see why zones and jobs are gated behind the MSQ. I also don't see why the MSQ is so heavily padded/inflated. There could easily be 1/2 of the quests in the ARR storyline without losing any of the actual substance.

The MSQ is the actual star of the game. The game is all about its story, and therefore, the MSQ. If you don't want to play the MSQ, it's like saying you don't want to play FFXIV.

Umm... no. each patch the MQS doesn't last me through to the next weekly lockout. even as someone who does care about the story it is only a very small part of the game and not a determining factor in why i sub 6 months at a time since Early Access 2.0.

Yea, much like how you can buy a huge dinner, and let it sit there and do nothing but talk, in the end you more or less wasted your money instead of staying at home. as with an RPG you treat it as a social media instead of using actual social medias. It's called a balance, it wouldn't work without a story either, Like if you just made a character, and there was no CSs, and it just said "here, make a character and go do whatever, no need to talk to anyone" it needs BOTH, as any ROLE PLAYING game does.

Every game has some kind of story to it. regardless of how minor because creators like to give reasons behind there creations.

You're right, we should all just unsub after we complete the MSQ for each content patch. After all, this game isn't about dungeons, or trials, or housing, or crafting, or Savage raiding; it's all about a series of dialogue boxes that the devs have freely given you the option to spam-click/esc button out of.

But you said story matters more than content and people who only play for content shouldn't be playing this game, so 1.0 could've had just story and it should have worked according to you, yet it didn't.

Maybe this game is not a visual novel and it's more than just story, and you should respect the reason why other people play instead of wishing they wouldn't play this game, because whether they press esc in cutscenes and don't read quests or press a skip all msq button, none of this affects you at all, we are capable of enjoying the story without forcing it on others. Wishing someone would leave or wouldn't play because they don't enjoy the same thing as you is just silly.

I haven't played that many FF games, actually. I only played through FF7 and played a bit of the Tactics games. I've never really considered myself part of the fandom (at least before I started playing this game), so you can set the assumption aside.

Anyways, I did say it was my opinion. I understand that not everyone will agree with me, and that's okay. I just feel that if you plan to skip 70-80% of a game just to get to that one part you want, then maybe you don't really like the game that much.

The biggest complaint from people who DID NOT come from XI was the gameplay, along with the lack of content (most non-XI players didn't even had the patience to get to llvl 50). You had a game in 2010 that played like a game from 2002. Go take a walk on reddit (if they still have the archives) and you'll see all the people who called XIV "FFXI 2.0 crap".

Well, that's YOUR point of view, not the devs'. Yoshida has stated time and time again how the game is entirely built around its story, and that he's actually fine about ppl who only unfreeze subs at the launch of each patch to play for a week and leave.

Where did I say I didn't want to play the MSQ? I said the MSQ is padded/inflated. There are many, many extraneous fetch quests that add nothing to the story, and there is no reason for 3 jobs and a handful of zones to be completely inaccessible without finishing said inflated questline. It's not about the story, the story is great. It's not so black and white as "you either love the MSQ exactly as it is, or you hate FFXIV." Please be reasonable.

People complain all the time about how bad players are now so imagine that new players get to start at level 60 and skipping everything to that point. They wouldn't have done any job quests to give any type of basic understanding of how the job works, they would have 60 levels worth of abilities that they don't have half a clue how to use or what's going on. What equipment would they even start with? It would be a disaster. Would anyone want a day 1 level 60 tank in your group? Would they even know how to join a group? They would be completely lost.

If the Main Scenario Quest specifically is gated behind completing all 3.0 content, I'll be fine with that. Zones and features depends on what they are.

New jobs and further job quests should not be gated behind MSQ, besides getting to...say, Sylph Management and level 30 (if the new jobs start at 30), like the original jobs. If nothing else, it would let you actually level up your job with MSQ, not having you start at 30 and then being forced to grind all the way back up to 50.

And about it being inflated - Every book has that couple of chapters we skew over, every movie has that moment you use to go pee or something - That's not to say we should scrap the whole thing and just throw players at the ending of the 2nd third of the story. A MAJOR part of the FFXIV experience is in living the story, spending time with the characters, cherishing them, caring about them - and that takes TIME - How do you expect to build that kind of relation with the characters if you skip 2 expansions worth of stories?

I know RMTs are down with the right click report. But Gating content that gets RMT ban and having to spend time speeding threw is ok for me. I'm on Balmung where we haven't seen RMT tells in all have HW and half of ARR.

As for this. China has a story and level jump. I think sadly if by 4.1 or 4.2 They will add a HW jump with level 60 and finished the story.

The problem I see with items like this... is the need to charge enough for them to make up for someone only playing for 2 months vs 6 months. They miss out on making memories which is one of the reasons people play games.


But the Leader of our FC left just after HW release got to 56 he came back from time to time to do season events and got to 58... 3 weeks left in the yokai event he came back. He got to 60 PLD 56 MCH. and was the 1st one done MSQ in 3.4 So in less then a month he did 3.0-3.4 Gearing up PLD and leveling MCH. So this should never be an issue to anyone playing for fun.

The Dev's viewpoint is not what makes a successful MMO. If everyone did exactly as he said, and only played a week to do the MSQ and then unsubbed, this game would have been shut down LONG ago. It is all the content this game offers that keeps people around, not the story.

The story is but one cog in this game. For those that enjoy it, it's but one of the many, many things this game has to offer. For those that do not enjoy the story or don't care, they should be granted the ability, whether its an option or if they have to pay for it with cash; the ability to get to the newest expansion. I know several friends who played and quit or want to play, but the MSQ is the biggest hurdle to them, and trudging through literally hundreds of quests spamming esc and mashing through text boxes is not their idea of fun. Reaching the endgame where I am and others are at is what they find fun.

Catering to the niche who wants everyone to do the MSQ is not conductive to the long-term health of this game. Bringing in more players and making sure they have fun from the get-go is.

Level 60, would be jumping the gun just a bit. If you use the game correctly, there's a lot to learn from 1 - 50

I do believe they could combine certain Main storyline quests into one, boost the XP and make things a bit easier. I'm not sure about giving them access to the jobs also, but maybe to the town. Yet until you've proven yourself (via MSQ) that person will not take you in to train you. Or at least make it so you have to be level 30. There is a lot to learn on the way up.

Looking though at the quests, there are some that could be put together and less the load. Sure taking out 1 quest here and there might not seem like much but it does add up over so many patches.

Case in point, World of Warcraft - There you have it, living proof that trying to cater to a mainstream audience is not the best way to go about for a MMO. And while WoW declines and declines, FFXIV with its strong focus on the dev vision keeps getting stronger and stronger.

In the end, the type of player that won'y play FFXIV because of it's MSQ requirement is not the type of player who is wanted in the community - And that's not a bad thing. Commiting to a niche (albeit a reasonably large one) brings more success than trying to make everyone happy.

This SAME discussion ocurred regarding HSW - The game stick to the gating and players keep flocking in. Maybe not the trigger-happy happy-go-killing WoW crowd, but well... who needs them?

You are twisting Yoshida's words, the context is people getting burned out, he never said "only sub for the story and leave after", if the story was the only good thing of this game they wouldn't invest so many resources in the 95% of non story content that covers the patch notes. He doesn't want people getting burned out from doing the same content over and over for the 3 to 4 months between major patches because that means a permanent loss of a player in the long term.

Again, you're putting words in my mouth. Please quote where I said I would like new players to be able to skip the MSQ in its entirety. Because I'm pretty sure all I said is trim down the meaningless fetch quests. I didn't say remove characters or plot arcs. Do you realize the ARR MSQ is 284 quests long? Meaning brand new players have to complete 284 quests + job quests + whatever side quests they pick up before they can even set foot in Ishgard and think about taking up AST/DRK/MCH. That's excessive.

It is possible to appreciate something and at the same time offer some ideas about how it may improve.

I think Blizzard is laughing at your statement as they roll around in their vault filled with solid gold coins and jewels while wearing their suits made from $100 bills.

and that's a pretty ridiculous statement, honestly. Any player should be welcome in FF14's community, as that's more players to do content with, potentially more friends to socialize with, more people to populate the more dead servers, more people funding the future success of this game.

Square is a business. They want to make the most money. Intentionally shunning potential players is a stupid move.
