royal + apple = abyssal again so now I'm going to feed my abyssal an apple and see what happens
It's starting to look like some colors can't be done in one go and need to see another color first. A lot of the snow white chocobo reports are done in two sessions; getting to sylph green first, then adding more plums for white. while others using the same number in one session are still just getting to sylph green.
Edit:
Making a second page on my spreadsheet taking information of moving between colors because of this.
Hopefully getting closer to figuring out how everyone can copy exact recipes ;_;
That millioncorn is a messsss
Someone sent me some information saying 19x feather procs didn't give them othard blue, but didn't mention the color it did result in.
Even without that information, it sounds like there's still rng after the feather proc and the message is just alerting us that a change will actually be taking place.

Result Sunset Orange <3
To my surprise, I got Snow White with nothing but Plums. 2 separate feedings, only 2 "feathers" messages. Has anyone else gotten the same? Do y'all think I could remove red any farther?
Result: Sylph GreenQuote:

I'm clearly need more coffee to have missed this. XD Ok, so theoretically achieving Snow White really is that easy. Still want to know if more red can be removed or not. ^^
eta: Scrolling back got me the answer. Thanks Levaeh! I'll update my list of recipes.

Started over on my chocobo in the name of science (and getting a Soot Black for giggles).
My general hypothesis is that first establishing a Grey color, then cycling through Apple > Berry > Pear to evenly apply RGB value is probably the best way to get it.
I only counted the fruits that gave plumage notices.
The first 3 numbers are RGB values, the second 3 is the difference from the prior color, and the % is the overall brightness value.Code:Desert Yellow 215 183 87 0 0 0 84% B6 1:15 PM
Aldgoat Brown 167 135 103 -48 -51 16 65% B4 Plum1 7:40 PM
Goobbue Gray 135 135 135 -32 0 32 53% A2 B2 P2 A1 B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 1:57 AM
Lilac Purple 135 103 103 0 -32 -32 53% B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 A1 B1 P1 10:16 AM
Olive Green 87 87 55 -48 -16 -48 A9 B9 P8 4:52
So for now Goobbue GrAy seems attainable with 10 successful Berries and 1 Plum (I used it as Aldgoat Brown still had a fairly high R value.
After feeding 4 of each darkener, it went from Goobbue Gray to Lilac Purple (a red hue). I'm assuming that the actual R stat is a little high, but rounded in favor of Gray the last color, so this round I fed 7 of blue/green but only 6 of red.
Ended up with Olive Green which means red=green but blue was reduced too much somehow *throws up hands* only thing I can figure is that the increases/decreases are random.
I am feeding just Valfruit
Colour of starting Subject: Desert Yellow
Stable condition: Good
Feed#1: 1xVal ---> Feather msg ---> 3xVal--->Feather msg
result: Salmon pink (as expected)
Feed#2: 1xVal ---> Feather msg ---> 1xVal --> Feather msg
result: Rose Pink (as expected)
Feed#3: 3xVal---> Feather msg
result: Coral Pink (that was unexpected)
Feed#4: 5xVal --->Feather msg
result: Colibri Pink (as expected)
Feed#5: 14xVal ---> Feather msg
result: Plum Purple (not anything near it expected)
So if you look into the rgb values:
So jeah after the plum purple one i have no idea what the fruits do anymore. Every RGB value got lowered!?Code:Name R G B
Desert Yellow 216 175 80
Salmon Pink 226 165 131
Rose Pink 228 153 144
Coral Pink 200 101 87
Colibri Pink 217 149 198
Plum Purple 114 75 101
I'm also experimenting to reach a Soot Black one.
Here is what i got so far:
Desert Yellow --> 10 Berries (8 New Feather Messages) --> Goobue Grey
With this i could conclude that each fruit have a main increase, and it indeed does affect the other 2 values, positively or negatively by around 50% of the main increase/decrease.
Now, going from the assumption these are the fruit values are the ones proposed:
Apple +R -G -B
Pear -R +G -B
Berries -R -G +B
Plum -R +G +B
Valfruit +R -G +B
Pineapple +R +G -B
I decided to feed him even numbers of Berries, Pears and Apples, to try to keep the color balance in the scale, while getting a darker shade of grey, so i went with:
Goobue Grey --> 2 Berries --> 2 Pears --> 2 Apples (got the new feather message exactly on the last one) --> (???)
1 and a half hour left and I'll be able to check the results. If, as predicted, the next color goes as Slate Grey, then i'm positive it's possible to get Soot Black within 2 more feedings (even one, but i wanna still go down to charcoal grey first, to make sure it's working properly).
This is like the 6th time I've seen someone say they've gotten to white from 2 feedings and sylph green being a midpoint. :D
I feel like it's safe to say this should work every time and it will be the fastest way to get snow white from base.
I'll keep updating my second page on how to transition from one color to the next, preferably not using giant sums of fruits anymore.
I'll only be updating the original spreadsheet to give us a clue of what kind of fruits should be used if players wish to make a big jump.
@Kerberus:
You got the feather proc on only the last apple?
The berries and pears might not count if so.
Well, if my line of thinking is true, you only get a "new feathers" message when rounding gets closer to another color, but all fruits fed still affect the RGB values.
It also explains why sometimes results can't be reproduced, as 2 Chocobos can fall in the same color due to rounding and aproximation, but their ultimately "true" RGB Value is different, and may yeld different results in the long run.
It's just there wasn't a significant change in the RGB values to make rounding go to another color before the last apple, i think, since these 3 fruits kind of balance each other.
From experimentation, I'm sure at least berries works as follows: -- R | - G | +B
I'm not 100% sure on the other 2, but following logic, they should work as follows:
Apples: +R | --G | -B
Pears: -R | +G | --B
If this proves right feeding 2 of each like i did:
R G B
-2 -1 +1
-2 -1 +1
-1 +1 -2
-1 +1 -2
+1 -2 -1
+1 -2 -1
---------
-2 -2 -2
I should get a net result of color reduction by 2 levels, which i think is more or less the 30 i need to get to the next shade of grey.
Well, we'll see in 30 minutes XD
It doesn't explain why it takes some people 15 tries to get a single feathers message and others only 2 when they're feeding one type of fruit from the same starting color. The true RGB color should start out the same for everyone on the first session.
If it were a matter of 'oh, its rng if it adds/subtracts 1-10 to the value', we would be seeing a lotttttt of no feather changes after the first proc. This would be easily noticed in someone's log who fed over 20 after the first feather message.
But only seen that happen to like 2 people so far and I suspect that's because they hit a cap and need to use other fruits if they want a change.
It's possible the rng is weighted to favor making enough of a change, just seems extremely unlikely atm.
Let us know when your chocobo's done cooking :P
First time I fed my bird, I fed it plums and got Sylph Green. I then fed it one apple in an attempt to take it back to Desert Yellow, which I managed. After that, I went back to plums to see where it would take me, and ended up with Snow White.
I tried to duplicate the snow white color (minus the apple from the first experiment). I feed it plums and the second time I ended up feeding it one less than the first time during the first session. During the second session, I had to feed it more plums to get the appropriate message. I ended up with Celeste Green.
If you check my original post, under the section for my personal experiments, there's a link to a google document where you can find more detailed notes on how I got what.
Aaa no :c
I happened twice on your document, too.
Definitely looks like there's RNG then. Either in the amount it shifts the color, like Kerberus said, or there's a list of possible colors that the chocobo can become from using a fruit on a certain color and it picks one at random. x_x
I've skimmed these threads and not seen this mentioned anywhere...but there's a LOT of posts, so forgive me if I'm repeating something known/debunked here. The whole "plumage will change" message does not seem to be random at all. It's just a matter of waiting 1 real time minute before feeding them the next fruit. When I just shoveled the fruit into my chocobo as fast as I could, I never got any message past the initial one until 1 minute had passed. So far, I've been waiting at least 1 minute and have yet to not see the message pop each time I feed a fruit. Again, this seems so obvious I imagine it's already been played around with, but if not, there it is.
Resulted in Shale Brown, which as said by our lala friend earlier is probably due to only the Apples having the "new Feather" effect.
Now proceeding to try again. trying to rebalance the RGB ratios while lowering the overal value again:
Shale Brown --> 5 Berries (4 "new feathers") --> 3 Pears ( 3 "new feathers") --> 1 Apple (1 "new feather") --> (???)
Will post the results again as soon as he's done.

Trying plums here too, feeding until feathers message. There's definitely something going on we can't control, instead of Sylph Green I got Cream Yellow, haha. I think Cream Yellow is between Desert and Sylph, and I happened to hit that. I'm trying to get white.

Aaand I'll stop here since I got my Snow White :3 I took an interesting side route. Will inform when/if I change the color again~
My FC is very kind for offering up 2 of their chocobos for the experiment I'm going to run. When my other FC mate pops on he will feed his chocobo, Thanos, until he receives the first message. If results don't deviate from the feeding for the first two chocobos, will continue a 2nd feeding. The 3rd chocobo will then be fed mamook pears until 2 messages for feathers will appear.
My experiment is going to be single step, and multistep color changes involving one Snack Fruit at a time.

Frankly... that's weird. O_o
Thus far, everyone I've seen that fed their birds Plums to 1 "feathers" message got Sylph Green.
And by 'weird', I mean 'NOOOOOOOOOOOO! ARRGGGGG! *headdesk*

Any idea how to get to Rose Pink from Coral Pink? Apparently people have been going through the pink progressions with Valfruit, so you'd think going one back would take me there, but I got to Coral Pink from a brown with a Valfruit, so I'm thinking the opposite would just take me back to a brown. Unless I'm totally not getting what the fruits do.
Rose to Coral should require Valfruits to 1 "feathers" message. Check Shoki's post.
Oh, backwards... I would think you would want the "opposite" fruit. If Valfruit is -green, you would want the +green (someone check me on this please!).
eta: See 'outlier' message about re: you getting brown with Valfruit. XDDD
Doman Plums (lighten red), one feather message per 6h feeding session:
Desert Yellow (base)
4 Doman Plums (1 feather message)
Honey Yellow
1 Doman Plum (1 feather message)
Cream Yellow
9 Doman Plums (1 feather message)
Bone White
3 Doman Plums (1 feather message)
Snow White

I started with this testing after some random tries. And because I didn't have a reset fruit i started with Millioncorn Yellow.

I dunno if this helps x_x but ill post it anyway

Um?
On my bird, I used plums to get from Desert Yellow > Sylph Green > Snow White (as did others). And here is the list from Lavaeh:

Sylph Green
Snow White
Ice Blue
Celeste Green
I'm getting a little weirded out at the drastic differences in paths with the same fruit taken to only one 'step'. I will add that I did not take a field trip into any other color. I'm beginning to wonder if that makes the difference... and why and how?
Starting colour: Default desert yellow
First feeding: 1 O'Ghomoro berry
Result: Nada!
Second feeding: 2 O'Ghomoro berry - received message that the chocobo is growing new feathers
Result: Cork Brown
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps71f34864.png
Third feeding: 2 O'Ghomoro berry - received message that the chocobo is growing new feathers.
Result: Pending
Edit: My advice to everyone, do not mix so many fruits because it doesn't matter. I see posts from people giving about 12 fruits in total and got Cork Brown from default. It just took me 3 berries for that. So that's a waste of your fruit.
Stick with 1 type of fruit and then work your way from there. Feed them until you get the message 'starts growing new feathers'. That's when the colour will change.
With my last try every value decreased :o
see http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2387664
So i don't think anymore that it's a RGB Value ~.~
Since I got the color I wanted, I wanted to try some experimental stuff, for the sake of my FC and science.
I tried to go apples exclusively, but that ended with only 3 color changes (as I run out of apples). However, with the disparity of results even with a control feeding, I wanted to just share my results for data:
(Desert Yellow) --> Used apples till 1st New Feathers (3 Total). Result = Millicorn Yellow.
(Millicorn Yellow) --> Used apples till 1st New Feathers (9 Total). Result = Pumpkin Orange.
(Pumpkin Orange) --> Used applies till 1st New Feathers (13 Total). Result = Sunset Orange.
I think that's relatively consistent with what I've seen posted so far, so that shouldnt be surprising.
However, may I throw out a suggestion? Since there seems to be a large disparity using Plums, would someone be willing to use apples if you were to get, say, Slyph Green, to see if it would produce Cream Yellow?
Just from eyeballing posts, it looks like the first +1/+2 steps, starting from Desert Yellow, have a chance at being skipped by some (Cream Yellow and Honey Yellow for this instance), and I wonder if added the colored removed would in fact bring you to the color that got skipped.
Which would mean there is some (small) randomness in the amount of color it gives per feed.
I've also been seeing this occurring with Berries, where the first new feathers message is producing UI Brown or Cork Brown, Cork Brown being a step behind UI Brown.
I would try it myself but I'm currently out of position to do a direct experiment right now.
Thanks again for everyone's contributions!
I've been running my own experiments trying to get to Turquoise Green from Raptor Blue one step at a time. I'm not having a lot of success and I'm not too sure how all these colour values work but I can provide some raw information for the rest of you because it seems like a lot of people working on one-step changes are in the yellows and pinks and not the blues.
Raptor Blue (START)
--> Fed 7 Pineapples (1 new feathers)
Seafog Blue
-->2 pineapple (1 msg)
Corpse Blue
-->4 pineapple (1 msg)
Celeste Green
-->7 Pear (1 msg)
Apple Green
-->1 Berry (1 msg)
Celeste Green
As you can tell I'm not really sticking with one fruit because recently my problem has been that my chocobo is simply too lightly coloured and I thought I needed to deepen the greens and blues but at the same time Celeste Green is very close to my ideal colour so I was hoping I could just darken everything at the same time. I'm not sure how to go about doing this.
You might be interested to know that I was able to get to Celeste Green from apple green with O'Ghomoro Berries.
