So, $45 per month would be ok if that's where the break-even point is located?

The first MMO to increase their sub is the first to go. There's way too much competition for people's time these days, especially with all the streaming services. At least we've finally gotten away from an expansion every year.
Thank you, every time this comes up in a thread I always get the most frustrated because I've posted a few times with "our sub money and the amount of money we pay for the game does not go back to just the devs" I don't know how many times.
They have already stated that every dollar spent in the Mogstation goes directly to the devs, so you literally have Fantasia addicts and the whales to thank for a higher budget for the game, since that's added into the budget they get directly from the company to make patches and xpacs.
Sub money + game sales go to the company as a whole to pay for rent, salaries, new equipment (hardware + software), insurance for their employees, utilities, development into other games - which, I will note, other games' sales also go back into FFXIV since it goes into a pool for profits, because that's how it works - and whatever else they do that isn't public.
The Mogstation team has always been separate, and while it's frustrating to see something that would have been perfect for an event (the spriggan mount would have been perfect for Easter and I will truly die on that hill) it's not something the dev team thought of or would have put in the game otherwise. Sucks sometimes, but I'd rather see something appear in game than not at all.
I remember this in a LL, and it was definitely said with fondness that she's got a very strong personality lol. It wasn't joking or a 'scared' sort of statement, but definitely with fondness.
Except you don't cause they barely ever touch that price and don't adjust it depending on how much people spend on the Mog shop. The game is at it peak and we got lots of sales now yet the subs price still the same.
Older mmo didn't change sub price when cashshop got added.
It just sad seeing people defend the cashshop. It somewhat okay to just accept it here, but it another thing going out of you wayt to say it a good thing and defending it on forums
That should tell you how beneficial it is to the game and how important it is to at least stay competitive with other subscription services. There are plenty of articles out there about how the subscription fees aren't enough to keep games afloat. There was once a time where they even considered in-game ads to supplement income.
I did say "at the most optimistic viewpoint". I am on the fence as to whether it is a good thing, as we do not and cannot have all the facts about how the sub price is structured and where it goes.
If it is indeed subsidising my base payment, I'm fine with it.
If they could afford to put these things in the base game and not raise the subscription price, that's bad.
Ultimately we don't know, although as long as we continue to get a large number of glamours within the game, I am not too bothered by the occasional one being a paid extra.
How many worlds need to be added before the math adds up for where mogstation profits go?
So what you're saying is they make 150-200M of subs alone per year and without the shop there wouldn't be steady profit? If only x % of the active subs occasionally buys something from the shop how is it the majority of profit? Aside from the fanta addicts. Missing the logic here.
If it is a necessary evil the people running it are honestly doing a poor job with the current setup. Just to name a few examples, undyable, gender locked and inseparable costumes, outdated selection.
Also I'm not sure what Yoshi said is correct, or how he really meant it. Why would the mogstation be autonomous from the rest of the FF XIV team? They're one and the same creative business unit. If it were true why aren't there near duplicates items yet ? One would think it eventually collides with quest, login or event rewards.
Beneficial to the game? Competitive? We really gonna judge game competitiveness on how good their cash shop are? Jeez it sad how much they made you believe it a good thing.
Yea MMO do cost a lot to keep up, but the reason cash shop exist is cause it free money. SE goal is to make money and not having a cash shop is just saying to no to low effort incomes.
The cash shop is irrelevant because it's all optional luxuries.
I like my businesses to stay open, thank you very much, especially having seen so many close down in the last couple years.
Does anyone actually know how the cash shop works, or that its a separate team. The people who make the stuff in the cash shop are not the main devs. The people who make the chinese originated stuff are another team entirely as well, but they work with the cash shop design team to port stuff over.
That's two different teams, and not main SE. I wish the devs would explain how these things work more often so that people could relax. They should think about making a behind the scenes on the cash shop, and then the chinese/korean teams as well. Would be great for shedding light on this for those that aren't familiar.
I think that is the main problem. Creative Business Unit III, and the rest of Square Enix could do a better job being a bit more transparent, but I fear that Final Fantasy XV made the company more averse to shedding light, and talking about things too soon. Its a shame, because its actually about balance.
Speaking of the Chinese cash shop this mount is coming soon looks like if it's not already there.

Why do they have to be so transparent? They're just selling some digital outfits? People get lost on the weirdest things. Just enjoy the game already, maybe help populate one of the new worlds that was magically funded by a mystery entity that's apparently not the mogstation because SE is evil and siphons everything out.
A lot of them were event items. Deveryn's right, they don't have an impact in-game unless you think emoting and glamouring are that intrinsic to the basic functionality of the game.
Plus, they need to make money somehow, and it's not like our subscription fees alone cover monthly costs. Be they technological or otherwise.
Not to mention how most profit doesn't even go to the game or its team anyway. That's not a SE-only problem, that's how companies work in general.
While people continue to die on this hill, we're looking at getting a new outfit from Heavensturn and apparently another outfit from Tataru, plus other goodies in 6.3.
#ungrateful
Going by games that just didn't have enough of a fleshed-out monetization and when aged were dropped to be put on life support (or revamped and put out as "brand-new" so that it's caught up on monetization, see OW 2), AAA companies just aren't interested in maintaining games that aren't constantly making them money - over at SQEX they probably know that when patches are months old the money graph turns into a trough, so "at least" those still playing have a chance to buy things from the Store. They not only have peaks when patches or expansions drop, but also on Store sale days, or whenever a new item is released.
It's just how it is.
I'm almost in a loop with that one person and I refuse to complete it.
You know this a company they care about profits and all sub games have a cash shop no one is forcing you to use it.
I think they meant this:

Whether they're dyeable or not it's up in the air. Although it IS role swapped, so there's the silver lining... maybe.
Ugh that set is even on the market if Im not mistaken wth......third time? Really?
