What I don't like is how, a lot of the time when I see something like this pop up for discussions online, apparently wanting to PvP makes you a bad person. Like.. no? I (we?) just like a different type of gameplay experience. If open PvP is opt-in, like joining a PvP server, or a PvP game, and a person can't handle being ganked, or having to participate in PvP... then I'm sorry, but maybe PvP actually isn't for them.. and that's okay! .. But like.. people shouldn't complain about it when they might have to PvP if they chose to be there..

If FFXIV actually did open world PvP, let's be real, it would be opt in.

By technical issues I assume you mean rebalancing the entire game, regardless of an opt in option, you would still have to do that.

Wanting PvP doesn't make anyone a bad person, competition with a human opponent is fun. Enjoying ruining someone else's day, like at a wedding, when they don't want to fight you most certainly does make you a bad person.

No it does not. If they have rolled somewhere where they can be PvPed at a wedding, they should be expecting the possibility of having to defend their event. A lot of fun has been had in games with event crashings. It should be fun for both sides really. I've seen event hosts have their guild, or friends as guards to defend the event. A lot of player cooperation. It really is quite fun.

The game is not designed for PvP in the open world, the zone instances are not designed to support PvP in the open world, the classes are not balanced to support PvP in the open world.

The justification for PvP in the open world does not exist. There is neither Horde vs Alliance nor Faction vs Faction nor "Two sides contest for existence in a world torn apart by War".

You want PvP in the open world, try ArcheAge, Blade and Soul, or any of the other PvP-centric MMORPGs that are available to you. This one wasn't built for it. And I don't want the developers spending time trying to figure out how to make it happen.

I still don't have fond memories as a non-PvP flagged player leveling through Darkshore when Burning Crusade came out.

It always amuses me alot how People in this game complain about pvpers being the most toxic existence in the game, yet they show the same amount of toxicity or even moreso when they try to voice aganist said content, despite not having a clue what the true fun of pvp is all about.

I hope that FFXIV will one day, have its dedicated PvP Servers, but first, we need to have properly functioning Jobs for it.

It’s not simply rebalancing. We have separate pvp skills from pve and the game isn’t set up to swap between those sets outside of specific, designated, pvp areas— similar to how swimming only works past a hidden loading screen to another area.

It’s all for nothing because even if they went through the Herculean task of making it possible, this community wouldn’t be able to handle it.

Yes! I use to be a guard for my guild in another mmo on the pvp server. It was fun, we would do patrols, we had scouts running around the area keeping an eye out for any threats. It was a lot of fun, and no bad blood between people.

I love how its always the fault of the "care bears" not being able to "handle it" as opposed to the "irresponsible few" pvpers that do the griefing, newb targetting etc that everyone, including apparently pvpers, deplore, but always seem to come out of the woodwork when pvp is present. The blame isnt on the non pvp people or even on the apparent majority of those that like pvp. but you can certainly lay the blame on the shoulders of those who like pvp who have ruined its reception for the rest of you. it is because of them that you dont get teh reception to pvp inclusion as "an important part of the game" that you seem to feel it deserves. however, its never really been a part of this particular game.

yes, as people say, if you roll on a pvp world, you get what you get.

Well, we aren't talking about pvp here though with good sportsmanship- we're talking about wpvp which has always been the opposite. Unless it's fully opt in, wpvp is always going to be about stronger players destroying weaker ones, which does generally look like bullying.

Personally I wouldn't be against opt in wpvp servers, but I feel like that'd be a headache SE doesn't want, it just seems to create problems in every game. I'd absolutely be against making all servers have wpvp, since most players don't want it.

Furthermore- wpvp would have to work utterly different from how pvp currently works- since current pvp gives you standardized level/gear/abilities, but in the open world you'd have your pve gear/level/abilities. It would be very imbalanced, and either SE would have to put a considerable effort into balancing it (potentially at the cost of other things), or they'd leave it as is and we'd have to deal with people constantly complaining about their job's viability in wpvp.

FFXIV takes the theme park approach as an MMO. It strives to have a little something for everyone, though for some strange reason a vocal portion of the community insist on stamping out anything that they themselves do not wish to see in terms of content even when and where there is a clear niche for it.

I think it's very strange and rather off-putting, personally. Especially when a lot of it is based on rhetoric around other MMO's. I don't think people need to go and play something other than FFXIV to get a specific bit of content that they like.

PvP is implemented in a way that is entirely optional. That wouldn't likely change and - shockingly - anyone who didn't like PvP would therefore not have to partake of it.

I just hope some of the upcoming MMO's end up providing some healthy competition for FFXIV so the developers are forced to do more to make the game stand out.

There's a reason why the Feast can only use a limited selection of auto translated words and phrases. Because it got to a ridiculous levels of toxicity. You can also find it at times in Frontlines or Rival Wings. Especially if you don't go and do something the one person who is trying to drive the team says in alliance chat that they see as the ONLY thing you should be doing the instant the match starts. That any other strategy is to be ignored.

Would I want open PVP? No, because I doubt the devs who so far have more than once proven they haven't implemented PVP that's satisfying to those who already play it would then go and implement an open world versionof it. It barely gets any updates or changes. I would however not mind the ability to do PVP in more controlled areas. Many who are outright against it most likely have seen or been part of a system or game where there was barely any regulation. Like the really old WoW videos of people getting ganked left and right by a person or a group of people who are the only one's who are having fun. It would have to be an opt in option.

I doubt that they would make servers for this as over the years they have repeatedly chosen not to make or label the servers we already have as rp or raid servers. Not wanting to have anyone feel as though they can't create a character on those servers if they aren't into the few things the community has asked for when it comes to server labels.

Don't punish players that partake or even focus on PVP in FFXIV by reducing PVP rewards. They used to give more gear at the earlier levels, but which each expansion less and less PVP rewards.

Either way, SE must take note of the interest in PVP. It exists. So what will SE do? I hear on Twitch that SE doesn't pay much attention to PVP. That's something I hear often and frankly I wish it weren't so.

I guess I’m just a horrible person, because all of that is hilarious to me. I’d make an alt of the opposite faction to stoke the fury over the flight master getting taken out after taking out the flight master with my main.

That's why you have the forums- nobody is stamping you out from talking about what you want from wpvp, they're just disagreeing with you.

You can keep asking for wpvp as much as you want, some will agree some won't- people will use examples from other places they've had wpvp because that's relevant to a conversation about wpvp. The parts that have gone wrong elsewhere can easily go wrong here too, and there are clearly issues outside that in simply how it will be done because the game isn't designed to have wpvp.

Keep in mind the way wpvp is almost always implemented is in a way that it isn't optional- so that is a fair reason for people to be concerned, especially since some of the people advocating for it here are saying they want to use it to settle disputes and target people they don't like in game.... which they would only be able to do if it wasn't optional.

Way to take my quote out of context. You do realize we were talking about player run events and the people hosting the event having guards. My no bad blood was to the people attacking the event and the guards marching out and meeting the attackers and protecting the event. It was fun and no one had bad blood because they were doing it to have fun and we were having fun too. No where was I talking about attacking npcs etc. You would also quit if the game ever added pvp servers? Servers you dont have to play on. Talk about thin skinned and a bit childish. Sure, in a PvP game. This isn't a PvP game. So if this suggestion to make it one happened then nobody would have rolled on a PvP server. We would all just be forced to put up with it. PvP vs PvE is a dividing line between players, some like it, some don't. The whole basis for this thread is to force it onto people who chose to play a game without it. When I want to PvP I play a game that already caters to it, was designed around it and balanced for that purpose. When I boot up this game it's because I want to stab princesses, rescue dragons, craft in peace and gather cotton bolls, in peace.

All the suggestions made to accommodate both types of player would require huge amounts of development resources to pull off, when we are already losing content as it is. It's not even close to worth it to completely change the direction of a games development history to please, in this game at least, a small minority at the expense of the majority.

I would give this advice to anyone asking me about starting this game, if PvP is important to you, don't bother, pick something else as there are plenty of options out there for you is that's what you want. It's not a comprehension issue, or gatekeeping or anything like that, it's the fact that this game isn't PvP focused and it's attracted players who also, aren't PvP focused.

If you started watching a TV show, lets say Game of thrones, and after season 8 it suddenly turned into a gritty WW2 drama, don't you think that would put off the fans? The answer is simple, if you want WW2 watch Band of Brothers, if you want dragons watch Game of Thrones.

PvP exists in FFXIV, thus the request is valid as far as I'm concerned. Again, it's a theme park MMO designed to attract a broad audience with different tastes. I don't do Ultimate, though it's there for people who do. Others refuse to touch crafting or gathering but once again it is there for the players who wish to indulge in that aspect of the game.

It wouldn't be a case of changing FFXIV's genre in any way. It'd just be another slice of content available to those who wish to actively seek it out and engage with it.

That aside, I don't think there's any need for personal attacks - especially over something as trivial as preferences in a video game.

This is an ongoing MMO. Players requested male viera which were never before seen in an FF game, and they got it! Why can't players request open world PvP too? This game does have PvP, believe it or not. I think along with improvements to the PvP in general, open world PvP would be a fine addition to this game.

PvP in MMORPG's are stagnating in the last few years, so why betting on a horse that will never make it worth the effort other than instanced PvP or PvPvE?

Yep, WoW, the Barrens, being a low level Horde just trying to do your quests on any server you were unlucky enough to choose that had a high Alliance population. Or vice versa. People think that opt-in won't affect others. But it does in ways like that. I can't tell you how many times I couldn't do things in Undercity or The Barrens because it was a favorite target of the Alliance on my server. WoW also wasn't particularly fun because you could be forced into PvP by getting close to an area of the opposite faction without realizing it. And there were plenty of opportunists who would lie in wait for new folks doing just that. Or people trying to do some of the summer events that intentionally were placed in the opposite faction's area but weren't actually considered PvP achievements since you could "technically" do them without engaging with the other faction.

Some people in this thread are asking for separate PvP servers. Okay, got no problem with that. Don't even have an issue with development time on it if the appeal is widespread enough to keep them populated. But even opt-in on a PvE server has ripple effects. And like someone said, no one is afraid of the PKers. They don't want to deal with the bullshit when they're just trying to enjoy some time in the game.

It isn't theme park if it's open world PVP though. You don't do Ultimate, imagine if people were wanting all the games difficulty to be that level. You won't get to opt in or opt out if it's open world. Even if they did put that kind of functionality in it would take vast resources to pull off and, like you said, we already have PvP. If they improve what already here I will be happy for you.

It might be the same genre but each game is it's own world. In WoW for example you have one class, you craft, gather and explore on that one class. You build it up and then maybe you can handle yourself out in the open world. Cool.

In 14 we can change class, how is my gatherer going to fare against your combat job? or my low level WHM? how is my weaver supposed to defend itself in town? What happens to the mats I just popped into my craft if you attack me halfway through it?

If we restrict it to combat jobs only, you won't get any PvP, I will just travel everywhere on a gatherer, like everyone else will. Otherwise it would be suicide to leave any safe area not on your main. This would ruin gathering, daily's etc...

Tanks and healers will have to be nerfed heavily, no way a DPS can beat them as they are now, so everything else in the game will also have to be rebalanced to reflect 2 core pillars of the trinity getting heavy nerfs.

The problems of adding open world PvP to a game that simply hasn't been designed with it in mind, so long after it's inception are practically endless, and so is the development needed.

If you are asking for the PvP aspects of the game to get more attention and updates then I'm with you. I probably wouldn't do it but if people are doing it, great. Inflicting it on the rest of us who don't want it? no way.

This thread isn't against PVP in general though. This thread is about wanting pvp out in the wild. I doubt many are against pvp in general. What they are against is if someone had gone about ganking others while they were waiting in line back during Raubahn savage. Or if they were waiting outside of the wedding venue before the time for the wedding they wanted to attend started and they could go into the wedding instance.

Even then there are people who enjoy pvp and participate in it that don't enjoy it when it becomes clear that they're being singled out by a group or a player over and over again. You can't tell me that some of the fears people have expressed in this thread wouldn't happen even if they willingly joined a pvp server. Just because they might enjoy pvp once in awhile. There are many in this thread who have said they like camping someone's dead body or spawn points to the point where the person who keeps in getting dead would log out and have to hope when they log back in later that they can actually get something done.

Oh the one hand, the PVP in this game is utter dogshit and I hate it. On the other hand, I get to Order 66 Lalafels, tough choice.

The most they seem able to handle is uwu sugoi catboi twinkle-eyes. Whether it is the story and even allowing for the possibility of character deaths, darker job concepts, content that a certain portion of this community disdains, such as open world PVP apparently, unfortunately the more vocal components of this game's community are very set in their ways and would probably see it turned into a visual novel if they could.

Whether it is the story and even allowing for the possibility of character deaths, darker job concepts, content that a certain portion of this community disdains, such as open world PVP apparently, unfortunately the more vocal components of this game's community are very set in their ways and would probably see it turned into a visual novel if they could.
