Who else is bored? Same Content and Formula...Was SB a waste of money?

I just kept those two as the others are the usual additions we have been used to. I'm really curious about Eureka and hope this won't be a Diadem 3.0 or another Fate area. They promised a new type of gameplay so I hope we can expect something really fun outta this one.

New Palace is good too as I think PotD has a nice foundation which just needs some work to be really great.

However, you misunderstand me as I'm not asking for raiders difficulty type of content. I'm only asking for more variety in the type of content we have at end game level. Not necessarily harder ones.

Well this would only concern newcomers who didn't have a chance running them during their release then? I mean I'm still doing the occasional Coil/old Extrene primal for Khloe, but I've done Coil back in the day and wouldn't consider running it again synched just for the sake of it. This wouldn't create content for me. Just as I don't consider running through old raids in other MMOs content for end game players. I do it whenever there's a mount to grab, but that's it.

It all depends how you design it. You can add lore bits to it as lots of FF14 players enjoy the lore/story. You can tie a reputation to these quests. You can add glamour stuff to get most of players interested. Mounts, even gear, etc.

Again, I'm not saying to do it exactly as WoW did, but let's imagine every day you had quests in all SB's areas that offered the following:

- You'd have a combat training with Azim Steppes's faction either giving you a piece of gear/gils or a cluster.
- A gatherer quest in Lochs having you help with Ala Mhigo reconstruction offering a gatherer materia or some legendary hq components.
- A fishing contest in Ruby Sea offering either some pet/materia or some baits you can usually only buy with scripts.
- A Verminion pet battle in the Peaks offering a pet as a reward.
- A quest in the Fringes using the blowgun offering some housing stuff or gils.

Etc. Obviously those examples are not well thought about and just came out outta my head to make my point. But there would be plenty of way to bring players into the world and reaching to every kind of players depending on the rewards. All of these have existing system already built into the game. It would just be a matter of new presentation and adding small lore/story to them as well as rewards for end game players.

Well I was more thinking about an evolving area where you as the player would help rebuilding it, rather than an area changing itself every patches. A bit like the Moggle crafting reputation in HW, but on a bigger scope.

Only if you weren't playing during major patches already then. They never add a lot of content at the same time, of you're subscribed regularly, you will end up cleaning most of it naturally.

But again, what I miss from FF14 are things to do with characters we have already leveled up. Not classes we still need to level up. This has become even more true with SB and lots of jobs not being fun before their late levels.

thats not true , SE will add more primals and u will try luck in the next primal for the same % for a way better weapon. plus catchup system exist in both games (or any modern mmorpg)

no1 is doing old content in Legion outside alts or ppl farming specific gear or glamour (appareance items for artifacts ), Weekly boss yeah but the items dropped LEVEL WITH YOUR CHAR (ilvl based ), at the begging u were getting 850 ilvl items now u can gain 900+ items , thats why ppl keep doing content the better your ilvl the better your chance of getting an upgrade.

if we want to compare wow legion to something is Diablo III , rng drops galore....but outside raids , and mythic+ dungeons , and some WQ the chance of obtaining updgrades is tiny.

Not a waste here. Having a blast with SB with my partner, we are working on leveling all the jobs and gearing them with verify plus doing the weekly/daily roulettes and raids.

I'm getting bored with SB. It's very boring when keep running same dungeons and raids over and over just to never win a roll or see any gear piece drop for class you are.

You always have at least 12,5% chance of dropping your weapon from the boss. If you are extremely unlucky the most times you can run that primal without getting your weapon is 10. In the example I made I was talking about 5% chance of dropping a weapon AT ALL, not 5% of dropping YOUR weapon.

My friends have been proving their worth to Odyn for almost 1 year now. Only because blizzard has increased the ilvl from the loot does not make the content new, it only makes it relevant.

I got tired after I proved my worth to Odyn for 6 months and still did not get the legendary I wanted... Oh, which reminds me of the crapiest of all systems they added in legion: The Legendaries! Some legendaries have extremely powerfull effects, others are nothing but a ilvl boost, and the best part is: the more legendaries you get the less likely you are getting a new one! Got 2 terrible legendaries in a row? Welp, too bad for you, maybe in 2 or 3 months you will be getting a new one, just pray it is not one of the shitty ones or else you will be stuck for at least more 4 months with no new legendaries this time.

OP - are you really so surprised that they used same formula?

Doing achievements is the only thing I am still doing in this game but leveling another job through the same old content that people already played for years does not make it less boring. And I am fine if one gets bored towards the end of an expansion but its truly telling about SB when you see all the threads about people complaining about the same old formula. I myself was not that bored through HW and yet I am already playing rift and other games more than FF14, not even two months after the launch. SE needs to understand that a good story is great but that you need long lasting interesting content after that story otherwise people will not stay since story is a one time deal.

Al lot that I had hoped for was already destroyed in the fanfest because they did not change up their housing system (and Kugane housing will only come toward winter..so months away), they did not give us more customization, heck we have so many recycled gear that other than the second dungeon I have no other dungeon to run for glamour..and its not like I have many free inventory spots on my retainer left to store it.

I just wished that they had given us at least one completely new content at the start of SB. Maybe the new deep dungeon, maybe Eureka..anything that will change up the endgame (and hope that its not a failure like diadem and LoV). Yet other than the same old stuff we already had just in another color, we get nothing and now have to wait till winter to get something new (if its not delayed and if its good)

Also its kinda telling to see some people quitting after SB that have quite the amount of posts in this forum and that played the game for quite the time. We will see where SE strategy of keeping it always save will lead them at the end. I am a bit pessimistic on this.

I"d say if you got 40-80hrs of gameplay within the last 2 months, then you more than got your moneys worth. The issue here isn't a lack of content or being "bored", it's about being burned out. No matter how fun or good a game may be if you play hours on end you are going to get bored of doing the same thing and what has even Yoshi himself said in those instances? Take a step back, stop playing and come back later, come back when there is content you want to do, play the game to the point you feel satisified. This is just 1 game, there is no need for you to only have your eye on playing one game, if you aren't having fun with this one currently, play the others of hundreds of games out there with their own unique stories and gameplay experiences. You shouldn't rely on FFXIV as your one and only game that you play during your free time, just take a step back and play something else.

I've quit HW for 8 months because of the same tired forumla. I returned a bit before the launch of SB EA.
After I level the jobs I want again, you won't be seeing me for a while.
I usually get hyped with 24man raids, but since it's a once a week thing. I enjoy it once and done.

Please dont assume that other people dont have other games to play next to this. FF14 is not even my only MMO (other is Rift at the moment) and I have lots of different games still waiting to be played. But in the end its either, stay subbed (thus I feel the need to play at least a bit per week otherwise I would throw my money away) or unsubb and lose my house forever. So maybe SE could have been so nice to not integrate a system that would force people to stay subbed if they want to keep their hard earned houses...Also critisim is important for SE, if people would just stop playing this game without posting about this, SE would not even know why. And lets be real, he might say that you should unsub if you are bored and come back later but FF14 needs constant subbed players or otherwise they wont be able to keep the game running. Thus they should provide something that will keep the players happy and not just say: Well then unsubb.

I agree with you on this (extra content at start of expansion) I made a post about it but in a way I feel like they kinda tried to do that with pvp, they tried to make that the beginning of expansion go to for leveling and quick rewards. I think this was a horrible Idea, as now Im actually tryin to pace myself with leveling jobs its extremely easy to level from 60 to 70 and verity gear is like candy to get and thats the only uncapped thing we have. And I chose to farm verity because its actually content I guess buyin all crafted gear makes things to easy and would give me personally nothing to do. But I guess I expected nothing so Im not really upset, this game is built on old content, and to me doing lakismi over and over again would be no different than doing thordan extreme over and over once you learn a fight its no longer new and fresh.

A fights only new when you first do it , so I guess I just dont follow the mentality of being over old content because it still exist SE can literally only make so much stuff you cant have 75 percent of a game a wasteland, and then expect the top 25 percent of a game to feel like a whole entire game all an expansion is , is the latest part of the game not the whole game and I feel thats where people just dont get it. I think SE could def have way better rewards, like mount armour , special glam armor something like that but always thinkin that the new stuff is going to feel like a whole entire game by itself is just stupid to me. And I dont follow the whole well I ran this 1000 times, well what are people doing now wit the two ex primals , how many times will people run the raids they lose their shiny after about 3 times of doing them. I feel where op is coming form and many others but I feel like I will never get bored because I know that this is a whole game instead of the expansion being the whole game like everyone else is treating it.

It's better than Heavensward by a country mile in regards to content tuning and what it offers. Favors in 3.05 were so terrible, it quite literally burned me out of crafting and gathering for the rest of the expansion with how much time commitment it needed to craft a single item (which was lost to a DC in my case). MCH and BRD's gameplay and performance was also terrible in both end game and the leveling process,

That's it done.. no more endgame content to do till next week's reset. Then a couple of hours in omega and done again till next week.... there is very little content at any given time.

I could perhaps level another job but that is really not an end game or progressive activity.

I'm not exactly bored yet but honestly this is the end result of all dungeon crawler games... The dungeons get old and start to feel the same... This is why a mostly silent minority have been irregularly posting for openworld content or serverside content that is usually more about the journey and less about the destination. Don't even try to talk about fates and that bullshit cause those are not creative, fun, exciting, dangerous, social openworld content at all, pls... It is about the time socializing and gaming towards a goal and not about running it x amount of times until you get y gear (yes gear is still a motivation but if thats all you are thinking you are missing the point). Another problem is that fights are scripted so the only xfactor towards them being fun is when players make mistakes and shit hits the fan.. In those moments the player's skill, intuitive thinking, and fight intensity reach their peaks. A moment of mistakes is more fun then the scripted battle where everyone is waltzing on key with the boss in my opinion.

I often times wonder what would have happened if Hiromichi Tanaka had remained with a realm reborn and was in charge of openworld content development. In before some nerd says, "another failure"...

Just sub every even numbered patch then? The weekly cap in 24 man raids get removed in even numbered patches.
Also you have to be very lucky to get the gear that you want in the first run every week

I'm not bored...yet. I think it's only been 3 weeks since I started playing again. I still have a few things to do like level up my jobs, farm for ex trials and Omega, maybe try out the savage version etc.

They did say they'll make new content in odd-numbered patches but if it ends up being another deep dungeon or another exploratory mission and just plastered "NEW CONTENT" on it even though it functions the same as the old ones then we're not really getting anything new, are we? Hopefully they're different this time or at least improved since they did mention those.

Literally Yoshi P said that he doesn't want the game to feel like a job and be a total grind fest. He said that people nowadays like to play other games too, so its purposely designed so that you don't feel like you have to spend all your time in this 1 game.

Whether that design choice is a good one is subjective, but thats what they've gone for.

I for 1 am okay with it... mainly why there were so many people during launch is because some "famous" twitchers played the game at launch so the viewers got bumped up. ffxiv in general will never have a huge viewer base, same as any mmo...

This is the one game that gives you a lot of different activities to do. They may not be all about end game, but they're there.

Also I really don't want any more. Just new. I just fit everything I need to do in as it is. I really don't want more content that I may feel that I have to do to "keep up."

edit: What I would love to see is more dungeons. I'm not a big fan of this 3 dungeons only in the expert roulette. Think it would be great to either i) as dungeons are added in the expansion to see them join the others in expert (so you would have to upgrade the drops in the pre-existing dungeons) or ii) put every single dungeon in the expert roulette and scale up the loot.

The OP is 100% right. This "expansion" was nothing more than a glorified patch. Same routine, same system, same cycle. Everything is the same with a new coat of paint.

I think they really need to either throw in some more open world content, boss rushes, or challenges that are unattached to the weekly gear grind that make use of the game's combat. We've got a lot of recyclable content in crafting/gathering/housing, chocobo racing, triple triad etc but none of it is related to actually making use of your gear for something.

Gear shouldn't just be used to make clearing already cleared content faster (or making the next patch's gear cycle trivial), instead, it should be used for things that are unrelated to those methods. Such as mentioned, Soloable boss rushes, challenge modes... But then why not some new ideas? Dynasty Warriors styled arenas or something like Pokemon Tournaments (except more 1v5 randomized encounters), Monster Hunter fights (hard but short fights for crafting ingredients) etc. Lots of other games out there to look at on how to make recyclable game modes for combat that are actually for the sake of fun instead of reward.

Imo, content meant for grinding is almost never fun as it needs to be long enough to not to instantly gear up, it needs to be accessible so everyone can gear up properly.

I am not sure if you are fully understanding what is being referenced. To me anyway they do not mind you taking breaks and do not want people spending more time on the game then they can't handle (Ever read the stories of people literally dying from playing too much wow in one sitting?) They also do not want repeat issues of say PW of FFXI so they are trying cover themselves to a point. (Could also be an implied excuse of why they do not invest in releasing enough content) I really do not think they are referring to "it is ok to quit because we understand you are tired of our copy/paste content of 4 years.

I don't particularly understand either. I'm on summer vacation from work and school so I play a lot and every day I find something to do. People just get very locked in the "end game only" mindset when in reality there are quite a lot of things to do. I bet most (keyword : most) of the people complaining haven't touched Savage or PotD 101+/Solo, if they really don't want to do crafting or icky old content like relics/primal farms.

Yes, by all means, lets continue with the exact same things we've had from the very start. We'll slap a new name on the NPCs, maybe change around some of the colors of the mobs, eh? Just do the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over AND OVER AND OVER.

Ok, next expansion will make XIV an ARPG, cuz thats all new, and no rehashing. The game will rely now instead of memorization, on strict reaction speeds, and if you are just a tiny bit off, you die. Okay, sure. Anything would be better than releasing the exact same content with a fresh coat of paint and calling it 'new'. I'm not talking about removing primals, or raids or dungeons. Those things are staples. But why is it that you can map out EXACTLY what you're going to do for an entire expansion before the expansion has even really begun? Oh, I'll tell you why, because they do the exact same shit in the exact same order with no variation other than 'Random Primal boss # 43' uses his abilities is a slightly different order than 'Random Primal boss # 42'.

Raids, 8 and 24 mans, and dungeons and relics, I'm not saying these are bad content. I'm just saying that we need DIFFERENT content. For the love of god, how many years does it take to get bored of doing the exact same thing in the exact same pattern?

Cap your tomestones, do your Omega or Alex or Snarf or whatever raid, get your cranks and shafts and bolts in the same order that you did as the last expansion and get your weekly gear and hoard 1000 tomes for a weapon in 7 weeks just like last expansion and wait for Eureka (which for the love of fuck please don't let it be like Diadem), just do the same thing you did last expansion with a few new mobs here and there but mostly reskinned ones and hey, its worked before why change it now?

I'm bored because I already know exactly what I'm going to be doing for the next two years and its basically the exact same thing I've done for the last two years. And I don't think I'm the only player that feels this way.

I'm going on 7 years and I'm still pretty happy with it. They have introduced new content. Its not always the same old rehashed things. You know what people did? Ignored what didn't get them best in slot gear.

Well lets see.... Gold saucer, chocobo racing, triple triad, diadumd (airship content), lords of vermillion, crafting/gathering unique content, Palace of the Dead. Those are all I can list off the top of my head, but thats far from adding "nothing" aside from raids and primals. Speaking of said content, lots of said content which tried to be"unique" and "different" failed miserably and was an entirely huge waste of time and resources on their part. So here comes Eureka soon, which apparently is going to be this huge new thing. Which I question because there is a trend where they try and do something different, that everyone ends up hating it.

What one finds boring, another will not. Different strokes for different blokes.

Considering varying tastes in everything across all demographics, you can't really ask that without an answer that ends up ranging from "Last month" to "Not in the foreseeable future".

Diadem was a disaster, entirely too much effort for little to no reward depending on your RNG. Chocobo Racing, is there even a point to this? Gold Saucer isn't exactly engaging content with interesting rewards. Palace was wildly successful, even if it is just used as a grindfest for leveling alt jobs. Crafting and Gathering are their own little world as far as I'm concerned. I do a bit of both, and for what it is I enjoy it.

I'm not talking about mini-games. I'm talking about end game content and repeating that same content in the same pattern for the next two years which if what we've seen so far is any indication of the remainder of SB, is exactly whats going to happen. I can plan my entire expansion gameplay out right now without even seeing the future patches, because they are going to release the same content in the same pattern again.

Ah. Then yes you best move along- endgame wont be changing and I personally love the design for endgame. So we don't agree there.

We do need more meaningful endgame PVE content though. Just not serious raiding content.

The devs have not started to call the game FF XVI, it is still FF XIV

This can easily be interpreted as unsub. Who is going to stop for a patch cycle and continue to pay while they aren't playing? Maybe if enough people listen to him, SE will change their minds on the formula. There's also a survey when you unsub. It's not perfect, but you can list running out of things to do as a reason. I did that last time I quit. I agree that SE should really approach expansions and patches differently, but I'm not sure they'll bother unless they see significant drops in revenue/subs.

I fail to see why they would change the way dungeons and raids are deployed... Its a system that works and as other have stated, most innovative content the player base didn't like. There is more than enough to do in this game for people not playing excessively.

I kinda stopped reading when you said you were following twitch viewers of the game.

FFXIV is a fun game, but a very boring game to watch. I don't know why anyone would want to watch someone play an MMO. That's not a good way to tell how popular the game is.

Also of note, half of the effort they put into the expansion was the story. If you skipped the story, then yeah, SB is probably a waste of money for you so far.

All I'd like is devs to spend less time making potd which is the same room repeated, lord or verminion which is wasted time and make things like the dungeons less like a corridor. The chocobo racing could be great, if your chocobo gained xp from it....

How many primals does the warrior of light need to slay before there aren't any more? Since 2.1 it's been "oh look, another primal... get to work WoL" (insert two hours of fetch quests to unlock)
