Some people call it "Theft", others call it "Privatization of Wealth Redistribution". Sounds much nicer, means the same thing.
mmm reminded me of fold titles. 5k games or wins just for a title. now idk about yal but that there, that right there, thats dedication my friend. pretty sure by time you get like 2k games in you kinda earned something. (no not more frikken tittles)
The good thing about the War horse and ADS mount is that once SE (finally) removes GC restrictions, people can attain those once again because folks will likely PVP together much more easily. It opens up the whole PVP world and makes it much more fun.
I can see why people give up in the Feast. I was sitting at Silver, over halfway to Gold, when I'm not joking, my team and I lost something like 20 matches in a row. Now I'm back down to bronze and working on my promotion qualifiers again.
Can I just say, for the record, how much I hate promotional qualifiers?
For those who don't know how it works, once you have enough points to get into the next tier, you go through five promotional qualifiers. You must win 3/5 or else you have to start over. It wouldn't seem that difficult at first, but it's absolutely maddening, and once people slog through it and get to gold, they don't want to risk anything in the PVP arena to potentially get knocked to the previous tier (where they have to go through qualifiers AGAIN once they reach the tier).
That is not fun. Not in the slightest. It's throw-controller-at-screen frustrating.
Dangling a much-wanted mount in our faces when this kind of nonsense holds players back is just like asking us to climb a mountain but pulling us back down for every step we take.
If you are on a loosing streak, best to not continue bashing your head in by continuously queuing for feast games. Sometimes you need to accept a negative point lost for the day and start over tomorrow or wait an hour or two to try to get more favourable teams.
Oh I am always trying to improve. It's just that in those cases, the other team was superior. There wasn't one specific instance of "Well our tank (me) did X, or our healer did Y and we lost." Just a combination of things really. A really bad streak of luck, or maybe RNG had a voodoo doll and was poking at it that night, I don't know. It's like failing 6 hasty touches in a row when crafting - even with steady hand II (I've done that too!). And that point you just look at the game and go "Are you serious right now?!"
I should say that the 20 matches weren't like back to back in the span of a few hours. It was some in the morning, some the next day, etc. I don't have the patience and fortitude to do that non-stop.
Last night I was queued for over an hour during Primal's prime time (as tank), but couldn't get a match because the only people on were in the Gold tier, and I was Bronze. I know they match you by how close your score is to others, but ... ouch.

I'll just put that there.
There's plenty of options that SE could us to integrate the hell hound mount. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the idea of it being locked behind PVP. Especially in a timed season. If SE really want to release it via PVP, it would be better (all around) to release it as a "win X amounts of games" like the ADS mount etc.
Hi Bards,
That token system is a GREAT idea! Even if it were solely for PVP, having a token system would let people get any kind of reward, with more tokens going toward the top 100. I hope the developers/community managers reading this thread get your suggestion.
@TiaHariberux3:
You said that the top 100 should have something special or PVP players generally should get nice rewards. And I pointed out that you have them. You have 6 mounts that are still quite rare. Yes if you look at the whole amount of PVE mounts than this is way less but thats just normals since PVP is only a niche activity. Thats why I also compared the amount to another niche activity, the raids. And they have only one unique mount if I remember it right. (Even though some PVP mounts make great sense to be in Coil)
In the end PVPers should be treated like all the other more niche activities in the game. (And I dont mean niche as something bad) Lets have some nice rewards that are achievable by everyone. Because if its okay that you get those limited exclusive rewards than SE should really start to be nice to raiders and other parts of the game too. No more mounts that people get unsynch later down the line, let them stay exclusive rewards for the top raiders. At least then it would be fair.
And having a special icon next to your name is not something cool? A title only a certain amount of people have? I mean you would still have a really rare and cool looking mount, nobody wants to take it away from PVP content.
Entitlement gets vastly overplayed around here. People asking rewards not be exclusive isn't entitlement, especially a good number of the complainants simply want a better means to incentivize PvP. You call it a reward? I call it a failure. Why? Because PvP will still remain on life support in this game. Instead of following widely successful models like Overwatch or even FPS franchises, they came up with their on that doesn't attracted even a fraction of the fanbase. I want to see improvements and incentives to PvP so it actively becomes a mode people play. Not something only a handful of people queue for three weeks in then abandon it because it's not worth risking their rank.
Those 6 mounts are rare because people dont pvp but that doesnt make them special or smth (warsteeds look like trash). You can get all of them by simply afking which I would compare to PvE mounts that you can get with just grinding. So actually PvE got 2 Mounts locked behind skill and PvP 0. Titles? We already have them and they are mostly just bad. I dont get your logic though "they treat raiders different huehuehue" lol just because PvE havent gotten such exclusive rewards YET you call it unfair makes totally sense. Lets treat raids and pvp the same! Lets give raids 2 bosses per expansion because PvPers got 2 Frontline modes in the expansion. Lets make the savage gear for everyone why`? Because in PvP they removed the rank requirement from gear even tho its mostly just glamour. Lets make raiders wait 1hr or longer to get in because pvper have to wait that long alot of times. Lets disable party chat in PvE too etc.
You know how bad PvPers get treated in this PvE oriented game? You cant really call such prize rewards unfair at all.
Even if you disagree with what I say PvE still have the most "rare" mounts in this game out of the current Top15 rarest mounts 6 of them are pvp mounts and 9 pve.
I dont know did you never played a game with exclusive rewards or in general smth with ranked mode? See it as a prize there are enough mounts from pvp and pve that u can get without having any skill. Players who earned smth like that care about it if its available to everyone no one would care and all these players who complaining wouldnt even use it at all. I looked up some ppl from this thread and they dont even have the easy pvp mounts what makes u think they will even bother to do anything for it lol. Also while a icon next to my name would be cool it would be also boring having the same reward all the time besides that ppl would still complain.
here a quote that fits it pretty well
"Inequality is not wrong, equality is."
I guess you dont understood the whole "ranking/season" system also there are things I cant get in this game, other games and in life. You cant always treat everyone the same besides that linking to that thread which got already linked several times makes your post kinda meh tbh.
So you want the mount to be an award for winning/wolf marks but at the same time believe that'll somehow bring better incentives to PvP? There are already mounts that are gained from winning games, yet they remain rare, adding an additional mount to winning/wolf marks isn't going to change PvP's currents state.
The only reason why instance dungeons and trials aren't on life support is because they are mostly faceroll, multiple roulettes for them, and give far greater rewards. On top of that, new stuff is added for PvE every major patch, so of course the 'new' content will be active until it eventually dies out (or gets on life support) like most content before it.
Overwatch and other successful FPS are focused on PvP from the start, they are like 80-95% PvP oriented and are constantly updated in the PvP areas. Final Fantasy gets minor updates in PvP at random and is barely ever looked upon. Until now that is, because something interesting actually derives from it. This game would need far more attention into PvP for it to ever get off of this supposed life support, not more items for winning x amount so people can quit after.
Entitlement isn't getting overplayed, it's literally the source of most of the complaints.
Yes. That wouldn't be my only adjustment, however I do believe it would help better incentivize PvP. Most of the PvP mounts have been simple reskins, which doesn't help incentivize non-PvP oriented players. The devs refusing to budge on grand company restrictions until recently only further deluded interest. People were queuing for gear and Fenrir pup though, but instead of expanding on this, the devs kept adding new stuff to each new map, effectively destroying all previous modes. If they consistently updated stuff you could purchase with Wolf Marks and better improved PvP as a whole, people would be far more likely to at least try. And that's how you build a community.
And what you just said is incentive. People continuously run dungeons because the rewards are good. Granted, that isn't the only reason. They're simply more entertaining for the majority of players. Frankly, I'd argue the faceroll aspect is actually hurting dungeons, but that's another discussion. What does PvP offer? Nothing. The rewards are self defeating (see above) and little is done to incentivizing non-PvP centric players. That's part of the issue. Games like Overwatch can dedciate the bulk of their updates to PvP partly because the foundation is solid. The Feast was a major update and yet it trickled off and now they're back to throwing mounts and minions in a desperate hope to lull people back. It just isn't going to work. Coincidentally, you aren't given any exclusives for being a good Overwatch or Battlefield 1 player. I could pick up either game now and earn everything veteran players have except promotional crap.
Now if we're going to discuss wholesale changes, I'd do something along the following:
- Scrap and/or merge all PvP exclusive abilities. Button bloat is enough of an issue in PvE Stormblood is purposely doing away with abilities just to avoid it. Adding six new abilities only makes the barrier for entry that much higher, thus pushing people away.
- Create and update stuff obtainable through Wolf Marks. Imagine if say, the cosplay gear in Veteran Rewards had been purchaseable through PvP? How about Umbrites? Or old gear from 50 dungeons so you didn't have to hope RNG liked you? All provide some means of incentivizing players.
- Implement rank depreciation.
Yes, it will need dedicated attention to keep people playing, however you first have to get them in there. A timed exclusive won't do that.
Agreed.Quote:

Even if the mounts/minion weren't time exclusive, it still wouldn't reel in people to continue playing PvP after they've got their "reward".
Feast ranked rewards were never meant to get new ppl into PvP and it was clear from the start that a mount/minion will be one of the season prizes. Wolf marks are the worst because the fastest way to them is q as heal and afk. PvP Skills are fine most of them have a fair cd I saw top ranked player even click them lol. There are title/mounts for the non pvp focused ppl hmm reskins? Ads? Airship? Incentive for PvEr only works when pvp is the fastest way to get said pve rewards which creates the problem pvp suffered in the past. Getting people into pvp with rewards will only last till the sec those ppl get their reward then just stop they don't aim to learn they don't care about PvP and they never will.
s your problem right there. Tank. Welcome to tanking in Feast solo...get used of feeling completely helpless as youre the least role able to carry. You can play your role perfectly and still watch it all burn. A superior dps can put enough pressure to make kills with a mediocre healer. A superior healer can keep two mediocre dps alive to win a war by attrition. A superior tank cannot put enough dps pressure on other teams in amounts required to carry (even WAR, they need other dps to put pressure as well) and they sure as heck can\\'t keep a party alive by themselves. Tanks can do all the correct CC at all the right times, but for it to be even remotely effective, it requires their team to play well.
Just look at the ranks, it\\'s not flooded with tanks.
When it comes to Frontlines i hope they stop doing this in 4.0 as i dont see the logic behind killing your own content, they simply cannot keep adding more and more new maps everytime as soon we will have 20 diffirent modes where only one gets played.... just add lvl brackets lvl50/60 and soon 70 for FL's and make achivments universal across all maps/modes.
I can mostly get behind all of this. PVP does needs some serious design philosophy adjustments in order to become more successful and streamlined (my suggestion is converting the entirety of frontlines into a random queue and pushing all game modes up to lvl 70, the same should be done with the feast maps too). I still disagree with your point about "timed exclusives" though, they are not designed for people who don't pvp, nor are they designed to incentivise people back into pvp who aren't interested. They are designed for those that pvp competitively and give the ranked mode an actual function with good rewards at the end of it. Think of getting pvp rewards as being the same as getting savage weapons while they are BiS, both are timed (the weapon becomes far less valuable once the next raid tier comes out), and both require effort to get. How would you react if a crafter said "I'm a BiS weapon collector" please provide an alternate (easier) way to get the savage weapon right now? It's a clunky analogy but the point is there.
While it would be nice to choose your favorite FL i think something like this needs to be added as we all know Slaughter would dominate purely because it is just a race who gets most killsteals and this is the reason why its most boring PvP mode i have ever encountered in any MMO(24man is cool tho).
Ehh, number of pages doesn't mean it gets priority over others. I seem to recall the 99 tokens for one bird whistle didn't get into the dozens of pages yet in the very next patch (IIRC), there it was. So these things do get noticed. I'm hoping the developers can come up with a solution where everyone wins. That's going to be the hardest part!
Boy it feels like players are already throwing in the towel, its a incredibly long season, keep on queuing, keep on winning.
Noticed by devs ? ofc everything. Thats not what I meant tho you cant link the thread as "here look so many ppl requested it" lol. There is no solution and there is no problem thats why they kept the mount to top100. If PvPers gets smth nice entitled ppl come and complain if Pvper dont get anything nice PvPers will complain.
Yep, that's why I said it's going to fall to the devs to find a way where everyone wins - and I don't envy them for that task. I see the points of both groups because I play both PVP and PVE. But things like this, I feel, drive a wedge between us when we should be coming together. I get that it's the nature of PVP to be combative but at the core, we all want the same things:
- To have our hard work acknowledged and rewarded
- To be noticed by other players for our skill (not just PVP skill but everything)
- To have fun doing it
Tiax, it might be easy on your data center if a lot of people PVP, to jump into a queue and get a game quickly, but there are times when I've waited several hours in Primal. It's nearly impossible to find people because most of the ones that queue in prime time are already Gold / Platinum / Diamond. If you're starting now, you're already at a disadvantage.
People are still climbing through unranked -> platinum+ with various roles.
See, that isn't quite the same argument. I'm not against rewards being difficult to obtain. In fact, I find it more than a little silly we can unsync extreme primals for easy pony farms. It's the time exclusivity-- or exclusivity, in general-- I dislike. And this isn't unique to PvP. I wouldn't be any less against it if Savage only rewarded mounts to the first fifty clear parties. Perhaps, it's because I come from FPS PvP, where you get absolutely nothing for being ranked among the top, except the satisfaction of being better than other players. Back in the old days of Halo, my only rewards for being better were my rank on the leader boards and earning achievements faster. Basically, I find it a better system to make things difficult to obtain, but always obtainable. At least when we're taking about rewards. I still think the Hellhound was meant to incentivize queues though, if only because the devs' answer to everything when things slow down is mounts, minions or relic step. They're kind of predictable. :p
I do agree on the Frontlines thing though. Most competitive PvP matchmaking randomizes the maps and/or modes you get to ensure variety. I really don't know why FFXIV doesn't.
I disagree. As noted above, their answer to reinvigorate content has generally followed a predictable pattern of adding mounts, minions or a relic step to push people back into it. Nonetheless, people who AFK to cheat the system should be punished. That's a failure on the GM's part, not the system itself. And I'll disagree once more. Putting aside ability bloat already being an issue in PvE. The whole point is to lessen the barrier for entry. The larger the obstacle to place in front of players, the less desirable that content becomes. Asking them to learn an additional six abilities and weave them into the 20+ they already have, makes it that much more a frustrating task. WoW, Blade & Soul and Black Desert all have fairly strong PvP because its fairly simplistic. The latter two have other issues to be certain, but when it comes to easing players into the mechanics of PvP. They accomplish it fairly well. FFXIV doesn't. And that's one of the reasons it isn't popular.
I got started with PVP because there were summoner skills I didn't have yet (at the time, none of the skills were unlocked so you had to rank up and choose what to unlock). I figured that during a patch lull I could try out PVP and see what Wither and Misty Veil were about (or even what they looked like, because you can't use PVP skills outside of PVP areas/the pier). I fell into it after that. I avoided Wolves' Den because I didn't know what I was doing (but I youtube'd people doing hectic 4v4 matches). So off to frontlines I went when Slaughter came out, and relished each and every Bane I used (even before the spread count was unlocked!) and was exposed to everything that PVP was about, the skills, the strategies, the individual and group efforts. I was ready when the Feast came out, armed with a foundation of understanding, how my job worked in PVP, and how other jobs worked and what their PVP skills looked like and how they worked.
I say all this to say, there is a mode to ease you into PVP, there are rewards for playing PVP. That's frontlines. Then there's the Feast, the big brother of the Wolves' Den (now called The Fold). I was too afraid to join the Wolves' Den in the beginning, but after struggling through so many matches and getting my ADS (I always said Primal Adders is PVP hard mode) I felt ready to join the Feast. Was it different? Yes, absolutely. But I learned to adjust, what I could apply from my time in Slaughter/Seal Rock, and what I couldn't. What was new and WHO was new, because I could see their names and recognize them as individual players with different playstyles.
I managed to place in the top 100 in season 1 on Primal. I definitely feel like the Feast is all about skill and knowing the "who's who", adapting strategies based on enemy playstyle and coordination. This reflects clearly on the reward structure, to acknowledge these players based on merit and season. The rewards structure should stay this way, with exclusive rewards based on the season, to have recognizable accomplishments within the PVP community. Everyone who actually plays PVP and pays attention learns the players who stick out for being amazing at what they do, because you have matches with/against them and you notice the difference. I have no problem acknowledging that someone above me on the leaderboard played better than me on any particular season. I in no way feel slighted because I'm not rocking their trophies, they've earned it. I do, however, have a problem with people asking for trophies for competitions they neither won, nor participated in. It just doesn't make any sense.
These kinds of rewards offer distinction, and making them widely available (outside of the seasonal competitions) muddies that. Perhaps in FPS (Idk, I'm terrible at aiming) there aren't rewards, but in the FGC (fighting game community) there are tournaments with prizes (often money). Not having a reward for a competition is odd, to me. As far as simplicity in combat, I think it's preference. I prefer a design with depth, enough options to allow for that feeling of freedom. Too few, and it feels rigid (see Super Smash Bros Melee compared to Super Smash Bros Brawl).
That may be true but the top100 mount wasnt meant to give ppl a reason to q atleast not new players. Do you really think they make a mount to get new ppl and lock it behind top100 xD. There is just not much they can reward u with (Glamour gear, mounts, minion, weapon) thats almost all they can put in as reward tbh.
No offense but..this post reeks of the typical casual just asking for another hand out. People in top 100 really put the time and effort in to get a decent reward. No pain, no gain/ nothing ventured, nothing gained- rules apply fully. Theres still 3 months until season ends. Use the time to improve and place yourself in the running for said mount (or just improve for next seasons reward...thats usually how prizes in contests work irl). Everythings been watered down in pvp to accomidate casuals (no materia usage..no uncapped stats, no morale stat bonus like the way morale used to work etc.) This mount finally represents something people cant just walk in off the street and pick up one. Its also how the armor from the previous 2 seasons worked. Ya want it? Do your time. Failing that, blame yerself for lack of skill. The world is cruel.
Just like your post seems to be ignorant of some of the suggestions made. Some of the suggestions are just to have the time exclusive part removed, while still keeping the effort to obtain it.
For example: imagine if the A4S mount only dropped when running it at minimum ilvl. Someone 2 years from now would still be able to obtain it, but would have to go through the same effort, instead of facerolling it in unsynced.
I wish the A4S mount only dropped at minimum ilvl. It keeps the challenging content relevant and keeps the status of the difficult to obtain item. This is what ruined FCOB savage.
I do agree that it could be a prize that is either persistent or cycles through seasons, however I think the reason that it is not is to keep prizes fresh to keep winners and top end players continually interested.
My solution is to give out a voucher for placing in the top 100 and having the minion be on a vendor (same for top 10 and 1st place). The thing that NEEDS to retain is the ranking, because making an alternate method completely destroys the point of ranking and prizes in the first place if SE is too afraid to give out meaningful and desirable rewards.
Again, no offense but your above logic completely invalidates the phrases'deadline' and 'limited time offer'. If theres no sense of urgency to get the reward since Itll always be around for any slacker, why not just fart around and not do feast til next year, then get up and go get it? This particular reward has lit a fire under alotta peoples asses simply because its a limited time window. That also has the element of making it far more desirable than just a mount that can be brought from Mogstation for example.
What's wrong with people obtaining a reward as long as they go through the same effort as the ones that got it before? It'd be a good idea to actually think about future seasons when it comes to a good reward system.
Let's say future Feast seasons just add onto the possible reward pool, and players who meet the conditions receive a voucher (like Lambdafish mentioned), which they can turn in for a reward of their choosing. They could pick the current season's reward, or one of the previous ones. Players keeping up with the seasons will be able to pick the latest reward, while players who want a specific reward can still obtain the one they're after.
Yes, please.
The Feast is boring. Nobody wants to do that.
