Not trying to be a troll here, but have you tried tanking anything at 60 yet? Because according to what I see, you're a 58 Warrior right now. I have all 3 tanks at 60, and haven't had problems tanking with any of them. You cannot judge the power of the tanks at ARR power levels. There have been too many adjustments to gear, stats, and abilities to go with what you know from 2.55.

I mained PLD a long time through 2.0 and championed it forever, however when heavensward came out our WAR buddy really wanted to play DRK, so I volunteered to make the switch to WAR due to us not having a reliable ninja in our group. Now to be honest I'm not level 60 yet, but the sheer amount of utility that WAR seems to bring to the table is pretty sickening. It's an extremely streamlined and well balanced class that has an answer for almost any situation for anybody that knows how to count to 10.

Additionally WAR does so all this with a grace that PLD can't seem to manage. Now I know PLD is supposed to be more player friendly, but I don't really find that to be true. Play WAR for a few levels and look to see how easily it is to almost always have an answer to a situation.

We all know PLD and WAR both have similar CD and eHP situations ( this is arguable obviously), but at the end of the day WAR is pushing DPS while staying similarly defended. Yes you can state PLD can do everything that WAR can do, but I'm having alot of trouble seeing it. Just you wait til the PF's start asking for WAR and DRK only in farm due to faster runs and survivability not really even being a problem due to over-gearing. Then maybe we'll be able to have a civil conversation.

Nope. The increased HP that WAR gets gives them identical eHP to PLD. The increased healing is only 20%, which means that WAR receives LESS healing in terms of eHP compared to PLD and DRK. Even if PLD didn't have the Convalescence trait, its Convalescence would still be more effective than WAR's. Defiance's parry is absolutely garbage.

PLD have the best mitigation. U see only CD but u forget PLD have a shield. and block rate are pretty much working well even without sheltron and bulwark. other than block, pld have even parry. War don't have much MITIGATION, have more healing buff and hp.

In this way, even best CD works. HG give to PLD and healers the best mitigation and breath. Holmgang and Living Dead.... ehm no, LD even worse than Holmgang. But it's ok, works fine even as is.

PLD works with mitigation and physical damage and a bit of magical
WAR works with HP pool and self-healing with bit mitigation both physical and magical
DRK works a lot with magical mitigation and physical with shorten recast

In this Raid there a lot of Magical Damage and PLD is a bit disadvantage compared to war and drk but with his CD he can still manage pretty well every attack, this give a good balance to all tanks

You're right, I haven't. But you'll also notice that I have been mostly avoiding talking about stuff like that but instead addressing the bad math being thrown around constantly.

The parry buff from Wrath stacks doesn't come anywhere close to making up for the bonus healing of Defiance. For a lot of reasons.

I forgot to write, I played and Mained always Healers (both three now) but for Final Coil I Mained WAR for static need. So I know pretty well WAR. I read the new buff for every tank (DRK still a bit confusing for me XD) and are pretty similar.. This just cuz with 3 tanks and only 2 slot, they have to leave the possibility for everyone to MT and everyone to OT.

PLD and WAR pre-3.0 went together like peanut butter and jelly. Everyone was happy with how they worked together and the synergy they brought to the table. Now, they still do have that synergy, but now DRK/WAR also shares that same amount of synergy. WAR complements DRK just as well as it does PLD, however PLD and DRK don't share that same amount of synergy. This puts WAR in an awesome position as an almost guaranteed raid slot. What needs to happen is there to be a better way to get PLD/DRK combos to work together better.

DRK needs a better support kit anyway so the focus should be there. If you love PLD then great, more power to you. It's a fun job, but it could use some love for some of it's clunky abilities. WAR's kit is nearly fully realized, it's slick and good in nearly all situations (MT or OT). DRK needs a ton of love for support skills to bring it to a level where it can truly coexist with the other tanks.

Tack onto that the DPS-centric endgame meta and there's bound to be some trouble in tank land.

I am not against the idea that DRK become strong as WAR, but PLD need a fix first, or you can definitively say goodbye to PLD.

This is an overstatement as DRK already fit perfect with WAR.

Currently:

• PLD + PLD = Miserable against Multi-Target, no decent magic defense, zero utility for multi-target (is the worse scenario)

• PLD + DRK = Half Miserable against Multi-Target, decent magic defense, Only DRK will offer good utility for multi-target (Not ideal, but work)

• PLD + WAR = Is ok against Multi-Target, decent magic defense, Only WAR will offer a NUKE BOMB utility for multi-target (still decent)

• DRK + DRK = Decent against Multi-Target, Solid magic defense.

Indeed, none of our status attacks affect anything any more, so clearly we must be strongest since so many of our attack effects needed to be disabled....

fight or flight doesn't actually affect clemency. it affects physical damage, which clemency is not. also doesn't buff flash for that reason.

you can even test it ingame really quickly and easily. pop FoF then pop clemency.

I'm also not sure where this whole "Paladin has no Magic Defense" argument is coming from. Take A1 Savage for example. Hypercompressed Plasma is the Tank buster.

First One: Rampart, Sentinel, Self-stoneskin (yes there's an enormous amount of time to cast it) - 6k damage taken.
Second One: Hallowed Ground - 0 damage taken
Third One: Same as the first. - 6k damage taken.

75,000 Magical Damage reduced to 12,000 taken. "Paladins so bad at taking Magic Damage." Yawn.

STR to boost enmity and DPS - but PLD has less HP and generates enmity inefficiently so you'd expect to stance dance but our stances break combos, cost GCD, and drain MP. So we are slave to our Shield Oath.

MP consumption for Clemency is very high - but it's so slow it's hard to be effectively paired with Healers.

Cover bypasses our cooldowns - and has limited range.

Our high damage alt combo still has a step that is an enmity generator - but our regular use DoT combo doesn't.

We have strong on demand defensive cooldowns - that cycle slower than the other tanks making it so we have to know the boss rotations and busters - effectively spreading our mitigation thin making us the least efficient.

Divine Veil offers utility to the raid... for everyone but the Paladin - it scales off of Vitality - and not Strength which directly conflicts with other deficiencies in our kit. This also applies to Stoneskin.

We offer no tangible debuff to Magic Damage-- where both our counterparts do.

Paladin has TP consumption issues without bringing higher damage or enmity generation.

Our only offensive cooldown does nothing to augment our tool kit in any way whatsoever and has the longest recast period of all three tanks.

Somehow Paladin has become a comedy of contradiction... somehow they managed to make Paladin clunky - it's very disappointing.

Clemency is affected by Convalescence, Mantra, Fey Light, Defiance etc. and can be cast more than once a minute. Equilibrium gets none of that and is only affected by Berserk, and you shouldn't be holding into Equilibrium to use in Berserk (or delaying Berserk to buff Equilibrium).

My entire apologize for this mistake on Convalsecence.

To be honest, tanks (maybe even more specifically Paladins) should have their enmity calculated differently, and their STR/DPS numbers should have less influence. Their damage-based enmity multipliers and other enmity generation abilities should be based on VIT, with perhaps STR having a secondary, yet minor, additive effect. This would lead to hilarity, though, as people complained about how they could no longer do "good DPS" while still being able to hold aggro.

I'd get a laugh out of it.

DRK have his CD (always in A1S) for every tank buster (so every minutes :O )making him the best tank for magical defense.
Of course this doesn't mean PLD worst tank, but just with this expansion is more dedicated to physical. Having Bulwark, Sheltron (and in general Shield Block) on physical mitigation and Rampart, Sentinel (very long cd) on every type of dmg)
Btw, mine not wanna be a criticize but just am examine of the tanks. SE of course will do content always where ALL tanks can take Tank Buster ^^

God I hope not. I don't know if the fight has changed or if it's the new normal, but I was getting rekt on The Chrysalis last night. I don't remember magically dmg hitting me that hard before heavensward. I died a many to the triple spark because rampart seemed to be the only cooldown that mitagated enough dmg. Had to have the whitemage hit me with stoneskin on each triple. I also was getting rekt on the boss in the vault. That was the first boss in a long time I had to pop HG because of auto attacks right after a big move.

The problem is that they have nerfed Stoneskin on WHM so now whm haven't shield

If that is really the case with SE thoughts about HG to make it where it only negates physical attack, then I might aswell drop PLD now. PLD is already feeling lackluster in endgame for them to further NERF PLDs. Honestly all of the new skills PLDs got in 3.0 are underperforming, but for Goring Blade, and Royal Authority. Sheltron-100% Block chance for one physical move, and regens some mp when it blocks. This move is either overly op, or grossly underwhelming, powerful when there are physical tank busters like Blinding Blade from Ravana, but unless in everything else with no high dmg physical attack you need to mitigate...to regen mp...I didn't need that in 2.x content so why now in 3.x for Clemecy? A heal I can't cast half of the time because of cast interrupts, when I am tanking? Let alone why am I casting a heal, bcuz healers can't keep up, or someone standing in the fire when they shouldn't, that is called your raid messing up, and still learning. Again why am I casting a heal that takes 3secs to cast when a healer will likely heal faster then me, so now I am only overhealing someone or myself? Clemecy doesn't really have a place imo, and only works if you know when something is coming up, and timing the heal to a T. For example like casting it to heal yourself just as a tank buster hits. That is the only use I can think for it, not something everyone will do. What about Divine Veil? It is like a double dipping skill gives my party members a shield equal to 10% my max hp. That would be great but then again sch/astros, and any type of dmg mitigation move can do the same, but I have to have someone else to heal me to activite my skill. See the problem I activite my skill, but I can't activite it, someone else has too, which is fine most cases, since I am always tanking getting hit and healed, but sometimes it doesn't happen leaving the skill lackluster. There are better choices.

Oh and yes I might aswell add this but everyone already knows PLDs dps is behind DRK, and WAR, especially when in shield oath. But whatever not going to go into this, since if you played any mmo for awhile, you will know more dps is always the current meta no matter the mmo.

I dropped WAR back in 2.0 when WARs were garbage as a tank, and the only answer we got was, learn to play, get good attitude from devs, till they saw no one wanted WARs in Coil, and they overhauled the WAR to be able to do endgame content. Now I am not saying PLDs are not as bad off as 2.0 WAR, but making tank classes BASED ON DMG TYPES is a terrible design imo. This will always outright leave out one tank in favored of another. Physical/Magic fight this whole thing trying to make the 3 tanks seem different is artificial at best. PLD-Physical tank, WAR-Balance, DRK-Magic So why can't the tank just idk play differently? But not be designed to tank certain types of encounters better then another tank just based on the dmg you are recieving? As of now PLDs I feel got the short end of the straw.

But let me ask you this what do you think will happened in 3.2 raid Alex Sav 5-8 if all the tank busters/attacks are mostly physical dmg based? This thread will only start up again, but with another tank class complaining. SE needs to move away from this tank meta they are putting on us with magic/physical specific tank classes, and rework both PLDs, and DRKs imo so they both have places in future content. Also as a side note to make each tank viable choices as MTs or as OTs.

Basically, you want to do more DPS and AOE threat as a PLD? You can't have them all.

They are fine as they are now and is the #1 choice for being the main tank for majority of the content. Give them what you're asking for and all tanks might as well be paladins.

The only 2 option is VIT or STR, VIT won't make PLD mitigate more but give more HP (Hello WAR 2.xx, except we don't have any way to leech our HP back like war in 2.xx)

Having a Paladin as Main Tank make them lose they LAST single tool that is affected by STR (Clemency) as it be interrupted, and is pretty much the same deal with SS. you better have PLD Off Tank and support with Stoneskin, Clemency, stun.

VIT on PLD have 1 utility => Divine Veil, but again, everyone except PLD get the effect out of it, so this won't help Paladin in MT position.

VIT is also very good if you plan SS spam yourself with strong CD up.

Here a video that show the POWERFUL defense on PLD (BUT KEEP in mind the initial pull wrecked all my CD, leaving me with nothing left after 30 SEC ish) so yes, as much PLD have access to powerful CD, it don't last for crap. You can notice in video that i change my gear to STR for BOSS (in RAID you can't change your gear and abuse of both world like i did in this video, the only reason it was possible is because initial pull was just TRASH (were PLD is still the king to survive that)

Note: On initial pull, gotta enjoy the big 120~200 DPS that PLD offer (rarw..)

On boss as PLD OT, you can see what it offer. (again that power is only due because is a SINGLE target were PLD is close to WAR DPS in that situation) In the end of fight, i take the boss and blow out my CD to make it like a joke, but in fact, is just because i was OT all the way and had all CD available for last min of the fight... (PLD is for fact, mega strong for short time)

Raw Intuition: 1 min 30, last 20 sec (100% Parry)
Bulwark: 3 min, last 15 sec (+60% Block)

1% more DMG mitigation for massive timer and less up time, i am not sure the part that make me not serious on this. 1% don't cut the uptime/recast, nor the fact that Bulwark is not 100% block.

Even later on with i210 Shield, it be maybe 2% more instead of 1%, but i have a news for you, this wont happen until PLD actually beat A4S.

As much Sheltron is powerful and can be used every 30 sec, against multi-target it mean nothing, on Single target with strong PHYSICAL move (Like Ravana BB) then yes, Sheltron is mega powerful, so is Inner Beast that war can use every 22.5 sec and i exclude the extra one they get from Infuriate, Raw, Vengence and Berserk.>.>.

Also, Inner Beast mitigate 20% all kind of damage and for 6 sec, is a very powerful tool with multi-encounter and let just ignore the heal they get back from it, so Sheltron sound less ridiculous: 1 Single phisical hit block per 30 sec.

Pretty much this. You make a lot of good points (@Processor); but you also spread a lot of falsified information.


- Saying Block and Parry are on the same level now is silly. Yes, you can compare Bulwark to Raw Intuition. But you cannot compare a Paladins base rate of Blocking and Parrying attacks to a Warriors base chance to Parry. Not to mention how useless the Parry stat is; you technically don't want a single point of Parry on any of your gear. Which makes a Paladins natural chance to Block and Parry far superior to just Parrying on a Warrior.


- Depending on the Shield you use you can currently Block for up to 28%. Parrying is 20%. In 2.x if we stacked STR we could Block for 30-35(?)%. However, as our Shields get better in 3.x we'll slowly get closer to that 35% realm again. It's not 1% more mitigation.


- Choosing between STR OR VIT gear is silly. Paladins can have both; its called i150 Penta-melded Accessories. +155 Str +140 Vit across five accessories. 9k Crits on Clemency. 1.8k Divine Veil barriers (better than AoE Stoneskin.) You don't need to chose between one or the other.


- Speaking of Clemency and Stoneskin; if you are getting interrupted then you are not timing them right. That's the fault of the player; not the job. There are a ridiculous amount of opportunities to be casting spells in A1 and A2 Savage (plenty of time before each Tank Buster too!) You keep making it sound like spells are completely useless when main tanking when that couldn't be further from the truth.

You cannot block and parry simultaneously so I don't see what you're trying to say with "they get both". Yes we get Blocks and Parry - but it's just another roll on potential outcomes.

WAR -> Inc. attack ->Roll Damage, Roll Crit. Damage, Roll Parry Damage, Roll Parry Crit. -> One of these will happen.
PLD -> Inc. attack -> Roll Damage, Roll Crit. Damage, Roll Block Damage, Roll Block Crit., Roll Parry Damage, Roll Parry Crit. -> One of these will happen but Block supersedes Parry - so if you roll a Block you can't roll a parry. You will never get both simultaneously - we do not get Parry guarantee abilities or boosts to Parry rate - only Block rate % from Bulwark - also entirely dependent on shield choice (gear).


Also Raw Intuition is 100% guaranteed Parry - Bulwark is 60% chance to Block.

Actually it's a 60% increase to block. If you are using a Shield with a naturally high Block Rate it boosts your chance to Block closer to the 90 - 95% realm. And it doesn't matter if you can't Block and Parry simultaneously. Having the ability to Block and Parry is still superior then only having the ability to Parry. Blocking gets better and better with the growth of our Shields. Parry stays gimped forever.
