How much i110 gear did blue gartr need to beat coil?
There is no content in the game which requires you to be in i110-115 gear. So why does anyone want this gear?

because train yourself to master your class is not always needed to be done in group, add hard solo content can be a good way to force some people to play better them class. learn some basic about them class like when you move out of an aoe, when begin a cast or your cycle and how make it fluid.
a dummy doll don't train you at do this in fight situation. indeed you can do it while running group content, but i feel it can offer something interesting for the game. don't get me wrong i don't think this sort of content must give high end item, at best complet this full course can give you one item and it can be a nice way to see some mechanic that can be used via this way.
i think the best way is to add content for duo, trio and group of 4 really hard, demanding a good teamplay. it will add diversity and allows people to not be forced to simply do raid and only raid.
indeed it's a mmorpg, but we are not always in group and sometimes we simply want to enjoy hard content and change the pace.
Sure, if extreme dungeons are harder than Coil then they should award better gear. No issues there.
Is being "civil" the only requirement for good gear? Should we simply be handing out the best gear in the game to people for being such wonderful, special snowflakes?Quote:
Because alternatives are better. While I've never had an issue putting in hours of attempts in raiding before. What I don't tolerate is all the whining, elitism, and overall negativity that comes with it.
So why should the best gear be awarded on the basis that people tolerate that kind of environment and not to those that are civil?
I find there is far more negativity and whining from the "anti-elitist" crowd than anything else. Time and time again it has been shown on these very forums that the individuals with the most vitriol do so under that banner.
The binding coil of bahamut has main story relevance to it. Which is why a lot of people want to do it. I care more about that than the gear itself.
So negativity from the "anti-elitist" is when "you" don't like it when they say good things that benefit everyone not just the 2%?
That's pretty hilarious.
No. Leave i110 in 2nd coil. I do not want to see a bunch of full i110 who never downed t6. (Like all those full i90 who never downed t6 pre 2.2)
Finding a good static isn't easy if you don't know a bunch of reliable people. It's basically like internet dating.Quote:
Sounds like you need better friends.
My experiences with statics for Turn 1-5:
- First group: moved me on because they wanted to get another pinoy member
- Second group: fell apart within 2 weeks due to people leaving the game
- Third group: was actually the first group taking me back. The replacement had sucked. Then they quit the game when 2.1 hit.
- Fourth static: I only did one T4 run with them, they were completely obnoxious and I had no desire to contribute to their success.
- Fifth Static: started at T5 progression, to start with these guys has a whacky strategy for snakes in T5. It kind of worked though, and after making a bit of progress in T5 I went on holidays. My return was discussed with the group, but they didn't want me back when I returned. I got used and burned. I got all of zero drops out of that static (my bard was saturated except for T5 drops) and copped a lot of misdirected criticism. Big waste of time.
- Sixth static: hasn't happened yet. I expressed interest in a group who was on T5 back after 2.2 hit, the guy turned me down for having not cleared Titan EX. Blacklisted him after a heated exchange about why having Primal EX clears as a pre-req for T5 was completely daft, especially seeing as I'd taken a break from the game.
The funny thing is I've rinsed T5 and the EX primals countless times since then.
So yeah here we are today and I haven't bothered trying to find another static for T6 and onwards, mostly because of the lousy experiences I've had in the past.
Having said all that, I'd be quite happy to pick up a static for T6 and onwards if anyone is looking for a BRD/WAR on Tonberry.
Prepare to be disappointed then, come 2.3 I'd be very surprised if they didn't use CT as an alternate means to acquire upgraded Gerolt's gear. It just doesn't make sense having two entirely separate gear streams locked behind Coil2.Quote:

It would be nice if they would do something along the lines of having tome gear be equal in stats to current raid gear stats, but have the gear from raids have set bonuses which make them better in the long run. They could do set bonuses like WoW(I know, ewwwwwwwww WoW) where it enhances abilities or gives you cool extra moves or they could even do it like they do with Grand Company armor sets which just adds stats when you get the set. I would personally like to see some unique bonuses that comes from armor.
Lets say for example the end game armor of that tier is i130 with 50 main stat, both the tome gear and raid gear will have 50 so it's pretty equal, but the more raid gear you get the more it shines as you unlock the bonuses for sets.
Oooooor, they could just have tome gear have equal stats but you can meld the raid gear. Either option seems fair to me as people who don't raid will get nice gear and people who do raid will get rewarded with sets and/or customization.
Best gear should be in hardest content, but how about making it less boring? It's all the same as our level 5 gear but with more stats, where are the fun things like set bonuses, or activate-able trinkets?
You must have missed the constant lambasting of "elitists" on these forums, or the fact that you can't argue an opinion other than "all players are special snowflakes who deserve to have everything" without being told that you are basically the spawn of satan. Then of course, if you decide you want to play in a way which the carebear community doesn't like (setting requirements!) you are somehow toxic even though you should be allowed to play however you want, right? Also, it is everyone's sworn duty at any moment to carry people through content or else you are toxic.
I do completely agree with this. The itemisation in this game is extremely dull. Non-weapon gear increases are minor and unexciting (and in some extreme cases are actually downgrades depending on secondary stats awarded). Set bonuses, trinkets, and relic weapons with abilities/procs/etc beyond just slightly higher stats makes the gear exciting and worth striving for.
This kind of stuff would be nice, they had a little of it at the end of 1.0, but more likely people know about all of this from WoW. Balancing for this kind of stuff is really tricky, and this game was rushed, so I doubt we will see anything like this until the dev team feels like they have finally caught up to where they should be, I'm thinking around the first expansion. WoW took their stat system and this stuff a little too far, and now they are scaling it back, so that might have the XIV team a little scared to really get into it too.
I wish there was a quest like a Relic Reborn for wearable gear pieces too.
AND NO I DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ATMA so sit down and read that 1st sentence again if you want to complain.
I hope to god SE never sees this comment. They will think it's a wonderful idea...
Yeah; I can appreciate them being very conservative with stats. Haste was obviously a huge problem in XI (leading to jobs which did not benefit from it (as much) like BLM, SMN, COR, RNG being left in the dust in terms of output) and so the current speed stats are very watered-down in comparison (and apply to both casters and melee, thank god) - however, I feel that 2.2 was the ideal time to start playing with more complex stats.Quote:

For those who are not familiar with set bonuses etc; imagine (for argument's sake) that it would look something like this (using White Mage as an example);
Veil of the White:
2 pieces of Soldiery gear: Piety+40, MND+40
3 pieces of Soldiery gear: Shroud of Saints recast reduced by 15 seconds
4 pieces of Soldiery gear: Casting Cure1 applies a stacking buff to yourself, capping at 5, which reduces the cast time of the next Stoneskin by 0.2s per stack. Casting Stoneskin consumes all stacks of this buff.
5 pieces of Soldiery gear: Cure3 radius expanded by 2 yalms
etc, and then
Blessed Veil of the White
2 pieces of High Allagan gear: Piety+50, MND+50
3 pieces of High Allagan gear: Shroud of Saints recast reduced by 20 seconds
4 pieces of High Allagan gear: Casting Cure1 applies a stacking buff to yourself, capping at 5, which reduces the cast time of the next Stoneskin by 0.3s per stack. Casting Stoneskin consumes all stacks of this buff.
5 pieces of High Allagan gear: Cure3 radius expanded by 3 yalms
etc.
And then i110 and i115 weapons could have unique proc effects, like
High Allagan Blade
When a melee skill is used, there is a chance (10-15%~) that it will trigger "Commanding Presence", dealing ~250-300 damage to all nearby enemies. This attack generates great threat.
Really gives you something more exciting to work for, and a feeling that you are legitimately progressing.
What does 100% of the userbase have to do with it? I specifically stated "on these forums". 100% of posters on these forums post on these forums. It's an all-inclusive group!
Just take a casual glance through many of the threads on the front page. If anyone makes requirements such as ilevel requirements, experience requirements, clear requirements, voice chat requirements, it is "toxic elitism!"! If anyone dares to make a group that won't take absolutely everyone in the game, they are being a "toxic elitist". In threads where opinions are discussed, it is seldom the "elitists" who are the ones spewing insults about toxicity, "needing to show off", etc etc. Granted you are one of the larger posters to do that!
When I make a ilvl requirement for lvl ex, that is not me being elitist, that is me being "hey i know you might be a good player but i really really really do not want to wipe not even once, so maybe have x amount of gear to carry us"
as for i110 being in 2nd coil, GOOD. If you do not run 2nd coil, then there is 0 reason for you to have i110.
Now as for 2.3 crystal tower possibly having a new way of obtaining i110. I am down for that. As long as 2.3 allows premade 24 (which it will) and is very challenging
I've noticed a lot of people didn't notice BG had 4 ilevel 110 weapons which is the biggest upgrade you can get for DPS. They also had the i110 shield for their MT. Pretty hard to not hit enrage without a few i110 weapons. They also wore tanking rings to boost their HP which they would have with full i110. Maybe you should do your research next time.
To those saying ilvl110 should be coil only my question to you is..... WHY DO YOU CARE IF WE HAVE IT? coil armor still will look different then our ilvl110 armor. So you can still keep your status of "I'm better then everyone else look" you want so badly. Sands of time should be purchased with tomes, not dropped in coil.
It's a far cry from having your raid decked out in full sets of i110 level gear. So what's your argument? You need i110 *weapons* to beat coil 2, but none of the rest of it is needed?
Besides, I'm not really advocating just giving i110 stuff to everyone. If you scroll up a few posts, you might have noticed I suggested it might be more appropriate to have *some* of the best gear in coil (maybe weps/armor?) while spreading out the rest of it (belt/jewelry?) instead of cramming both sets of i110 gear for each class (high allagan + sands/oils) for every single slot, including both the i110 and i115 weps, solely onto the 4 bosses of coil.
I share the same thoughts as well. In fact, I really liked Patch 2.1 - because we have EX Primals that gives 3 i90 accessories and Ultima HM that gives 2 i80 accessories. It really gives more gearing options - even though some of these items are not BiS for certain classes or jobs, but it's still a decent upgrade. Furthermore, it gives more things to play outside coil.
Our whole primal LS were farming them daily, for weeks to gear the right-hand-side for all our jobs and also to get the primal weapon weekly. In a sense it also made Patch 2.1 "last longer" - quite a handful of us got really bored already.. I mean, Levi/Mog EX is the only thing you could farm which gives 1 weapon and 1 accessory, each from one boss, but Patch 2.1 you could go for 5 accessory from 4 bosses.
Yeah it's not like there's a weapon quest outside of coil in 2.2 that you can work on.:confused:Quote:

FYI I have already done it for my main BRD and my primary alt job PLD - but tbh the nature of quest to obtain the weapon are entirely different. Also, not everyone is going to go for a second atma/animus weapon (some don't even wanna bother with one, you know the reasons and the QQ)
Plus, it's still 2 primals in 2.2 vs 3 primals + 1 ultima in 2.1 - in which 2.1 does provide more PvE contents
To be honest the high-end gear in Coil does have one major problem. A heavy percentage of XIV is in the "Casual" side of everything, the people who play the game when they can and have fun with CT and just playing with other people, and having the best gear doesn't heavily matter for them. The Hardcore people like the Raids and the challenge.
The Soldiery tomes allow you to get better gear at a weekly pace, that will still be decent even if you don't go for the Sands of Time and Oils of Time in Second Coil, but this also means that your gear and the weapons you can get, which means you still need to beat Coil to acquire, will be stuck at 100. Most of those people in the Casual side of things will never likely touch those things, I doubt I'll ever touch beyond T7 myself and I play a lot right now. You get locked out of the content and the Echo buff doesn't make things easier, it just lightens the load that you need to do, but if you can't play the game without moving around and knowing the fights, then you will never proceed in the game. And without multiple ways to get gear, and I'm talking equipment not the Animus weapons, you won't ever progress in the game besides normal every day to day leveling and Beast Tribe Quests.
There needs to be multiple ways of progressing your character without having to hope you will get lucky and meet someone who has a Static for Coil, because if you don't know any of those people or come across anyone who runs them, you will never get to them. And that honestly seems dishonest for an MMO. We need to have hoards of unique gear and things to collect, there should be multiple ways to gear up your character with decent gear. Of course you would have to rival how you get that gear compared to going into Coil, which I personally think could happen through Notorious Monster battles in the Duty Finder. We recreate monsters and enemies from the past and put them into Trials. The drop rates for the gear could be spread out across all of them and it would have to probably be low in the process, but with what SE is doing with everything being fair and equal for everyone, besides everyone actually being on a fair and even ground, you can't just add something like that if it's not behind very troubling content.
Then the people who are doing Coil will wonder "why do all of this work here if I can get the same thing somewhere else with the same reward but less work?" And its true, if everything is equal, there has to be several ways to get the same tier of gear. But if everything is balanced, then everyone will likely just go the path of least resistance. Because no one should want to willingly grind something hour for hour and then come away from it with nothing to show for their time. You want your time to feel worth it and well spent instead of sucked into nothingness. I made Party Finder groups for Titan EM earlier, probably 30 different attempts with different people, got very close several times, but still failed, and then had nothing to show for it. If I can't get through it ASAP, a time may come when no one else will be doing anything involved with it and I'll be locked behind that wall for the rest of the game's lifetime, even 100% Echo buff won't help people through a fight like that.
This worries me myself because I'd like to progress through things at some point. All in all just my opinions.
Well you do need some i110 gear. Weapon damage and Vit makes the biggest difference. Casters wearing tank rings and specing Vit like BG did makes up for not having the 110 stats. The gear is needed but players just used loop holes to get the stats they needed. I assume you haven't done t9. cute
People who don't do coil 2 don't really need or deserve i110 gear. We're going to be farming this for several months until 2.4 comes out. The gear will also make coil 2 less of a headache. I was so glad when I saw that good players would finally be rewarded this patch. If you want the best you have to be the best.
That's just how MMOs work though - certain gear will never be acquired by everyone, especially if they are not in a top tier guild. Even in FFXI, the vast majority of people were never going to touch a relic or mythic. A good chunk would never touch an Empyrean. In other games like Rift or WoW, only an elite few would touch the very top. Equality of opportunity, not outcome!
Sorry to burst your bubble but, If you want the best you have to have:Quote:

a) A solid FC/group of friends
b) Plenty of time to raid
That's really about it. Unfortunately a lot of people think that doing coil makes them special.
You're doing it wrong.
Go here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/f...-Shiva%28EU%29
Look for threads of people and FCs recruiting for coil. If there are none for you there, keep an eye out in game. Start a PF saying you're looking. Join someone else's PF who is recruiting. Start your own static.
Be social. I've had 4 different statics since I joined, and none of them were any harder than the last to find.
I just refuse to PUG T5 or higher anymore. It's far too much of a headache, and paired with coil being the end-all of gear, I just don't have anything to do for progression besides grinding a single 4 man for honestly, poor gear. I can't get a static on my schedule (Medic on a 24/48, in pre-med to boot), and now I have... Uh, well, nothing really. Animus is waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time for being inferior to drops I've seen terribad healers get. (Still love the WHM who didn't know cure 3 was AoE, or that regen was actually good who got coil drops before more skilled players)
I don't know, the game's just kinda lost on me now. It's moving further and further away from being fun for those without statics. Which, oh well, I don't have metric tons of free time, so it won't exactly be hard to find a replacement. Currently, my no bonfire/death run of DS2 is occupying my time, and I enjoy the challenge of the game on that, not the challenge of finding 7 people who aren't horrible with my schedule.
True, I could have started working on my Relic and so on over there in XI, but that's such a massive time-sink, if people think the ATMA and Animus grind is bad they need to go do that again. I just think it's unfortunate that once you hit 50, the tier progression goes like so: Darklight > Myth or Allagan > Weathered > High Allagan. There needs to be more "well for Weathered you can also go this route for this other gear, it won't be as easy to get, but it's different gear and it's still available to you outside of Soldiery" or something else that gives us more choices. Like for the Aetherial gear, best stuff you can find before 50 will be Aetherial. But once you hit 50 it gets completely phased out, could there be a chance to get level 70 Aetherial gear that's superior to Darklight but rarer? Very possible. After all, there's people going into HM Primals and CT for things with 100+ gear, it's not as if it would throw too much off if there was some alternate superior gear that was out there. All that matters is that it is out there, and ready to be acquired if you go for it.
I already made a thread in the Shiva section about looking for allies to help with Titan, did you see it? :P No replies so far.
As for FC's, I'm already in one and not planning to leave, so it would be hard to convince someone I'm available to play all the time if I don't join their FC, I could start doing Second Coil of Bahamut, but still need to do T5, which requires a communicative group with some time. I still haven't practiced it enough. I'll keep on the lookout for people who need to get through the first one, but ehh I'm never really ahead of the rest of the server that's already going into T6 and beyond.
FFXI Relics were also amazing for the most part (Not touching Claustrum), and you could farm NMs, low man dynamis (I had a group of 6 that full cleared Dyna Sandy for cash weekly at 75), or PUG dynamis. It was a lengthy path, it was a grind, and it was worth it. An Animus though? Hell, their relic path in general is always outclassed by a raid weapon. 1,500 myth x9 after 9 atma farming for a weapon that's terrible compared to the raid drop? Eh, I'll pass. Weapon DMG is kind of important in this game.
I miss FFXI's lateral end game system though. And the fact you could do a million and one things solo for real progression. Fun fact: My only truly amazing XI linkshell came about because I would farm gil then merc drops, the merc shell was truly impressed with me and offered me a pearl after a few runs. It made me a ton of gil since we sold anything we didn't need.
