The fact remains that veteran rewards are a marketing strategy implemented to improve sales and pad SE's bottomline, it serves as an incentive to entice players in subscribing to larger chunks of game time, it really isn't an innocent carebear thank you gesture as what you've been trying to portray it as.

We are not mindlessly ranting here, we have put out our arguments, its in your ball-court now.

These vet rewards do not have to fulfill your expectations. I will be honest, it is a slightly odd choice of vet rewards, but it is still something given to you free of charge. It doesn't matter if you feel entitled to something grander than the previous awards, it's a free gift for subbing. You can not sub and get nothing at all as well.

The enticement to sub for longer chunks is to fulfill your need to have something sooner. The bonus for subbing for longer chunks is the fact that you have access to multiple characters per world. I believe you also see a discounted rate for the subscription bundle. The veteran reward is for longevity. As a consumer, it is your responsibility to manage your funds as you see fit. If you are unable to pay monthly and see these rewards over the course of your subscription, that is a mismanagement on your side. You should be paying for access, not vet rewards.

Clarification, not telling you to spend your money, just that your money pays for access not rewards. Also your chunk sub does entitle the rewards immediately simply because you have already paid forward for the access, meaning whether or not you choose to play, your longevity takes you beyond the 360 days.

correct me if I'm right but as far as I remember any and all other rewards are something you keep forever and/or can't get in game other than by getting the rewards. those tickets feel to me as if they just gave us the gil to pay for something anybody can do.

while it's a "nice" gift and we have no reason to complain about gifts it's a poor gift compared to the other rewards we get.
why? because the rest of rewards is something you keep to brag about it or something you can't get without the reward. the money to do a few teleports is something you can easily get.

it feels like after a year of working at a company you are given an exclusive rolex, after working on that company for two years you got an top class Ferrari and for the third year they give you a couple dozen tickets to get free gas. it's great you got those tickets for free but don't tell me you wouldn't feel "O_o what's this shit?"

It is one thing to say something. It is another thing entirely to actually do something. Just because they do not choose to acknowledge a complaint openly does not mean that they do not acknowledge it at all. We have seen threads like these be deleted as well which is also a form of acknowledgement.

But you're right, Square Enix does not owe us anything. However, I would definitely appreciate having something a little bit nicer to commemorate a year of playing Final Fantasy XIV.

I think additional retainer for long time subscribers (instead of getting one with micro transactions) would be a better award than 50 teleport tickets.

I pay my sub each month to play FFXIV I don't play the game to get some WORTHLESS pixel item that has absolutely no value and usually just sits around doing nothing. 50 Teleport tickets...... OMG those little beggars will be given quite a workout and I will be very sad to see them go. Value/Worth is different to us all and to me the minions/mounts etc are worthless. I don't have a minion out ever and even though I have 4 mounts atm I only ever use 2. My chocobo gets used solely so I can level her and I ride the mount I got for buying the Collectors Edition of the game.

I guess what I'm saying is suck it up snowflakes sometimes you will get a reward that you think is valuable and sometimes you wont, BUT that item will be valuable to someone else. Why anyone would think a whole years worth of subs should buy them gold plated mounts etc is beyond me you expect those kind of things after 10 years long service. Maybe....... SE made the mistake of giving us what you consider to be *better* items to early. They should take them all back and do it right this time by giving us what you consider worthless first.

To respond, more directly, to your argument - If 50 free teleports (or ~25,000g) is a large sum of money to you - that's great. To most people, however, it is not.

In response to the "omg, SE don't owe us anything for our loyalty/subscription money, we should all be super grateful for anything that's thrown our way, u r SO entitled" - Well, um, yeah: they kinda do.

XIV is the main reason SE was able to turn a profit in 2013. Stating that fact isn't being "entitled" - it's being realistic.

Indeed, it wouldn't have been an issue if they reserved the "nicer" items for the higher veteran rewards, as I've mentioned, the issue at hand is how the devs have set customers expectations of veteran rewards, it isn't a rant on how we want uber items but merely that 50 teleports don't follow the expectations set by the devs with regards to veteran rewards based on past veteran rewards.

It's not just video games. Pretty much anytime you buy anything bundled, the big red sticker proclaiming that part of it is free is just a marketing gimmick. When you buy a Happy Meal, which part is "free," the food or the toy? The cereal or the prize inside? The first large two-topping pizza or the second one?

We make purchase decisions based (at least partly) on the "free" stuff that comes with the "main" purchase all the time. Sometimes just for the bonuses (some of those Happy Meal toys are pretty sweet).

Unless you're going to drag lawyers into it, a company's decision to call something a bonus only carries as much weight as each individual consumer chooses to give it.

I can't agree more with a previous comment stating that "nothing is truly free"

Indeed, you might view veteran rewards as "free" but reality is that it pays for itself through an increased block subscription time, that is how marketing works, if you buy a car and they give you an ipad, is it truly free or is it to sweeten the deal? if our feedback reaches the devs and they decides to make it a permanent free teleport, does it bring dis-benefit to you? this is what confuses me, how players are actively making the choice to not receive a better reward is somewhat like buying products at full MSRP and refusing to ask or accept a deal.

we pay for the game, that is undeniable but if a company implements a rewards (marketing) program, it isn't unreasonable for customers to have expectations from it even though the very same customers would most likely still purchase without the rewards, it is what you'd call customer satisfaction.

perhaps it is prudent for the players here to not view the veteran rewards as an innocent "thank you" but rather that SE is a for-profit organization and FFXIV is a revenue generating business and the veteran rewards are a marketing program to increase revenue.

I dont think SE ever give out anything is useful, why start now?

useful and valuable are not the same thing. houses aren't that useful they go for 2M+. different mounts aren't particularly useful they go for 120k. the most expensive market board stuff from treasure maps are minions.

players want something valuable, unique is valuable. 10k-25k worth of coupons is not.

The item it's self is a good item (the free porting tix). But it does feel lack luster for a 1 year vet reward. That's just my two Gil.

Because it's only half a "reward". The other half is an "incentive" to get people to keep subscribing and, where possible, in advance.

Remember you're "rewarded" based on the amount you've paid, not the amount you've played.

You are also taking this out of context. Everyone know that the monetary value of one month of basic sub is a sixth of an 180 day sub. I thought we were having a discussion on longevity rewards. Meaning I am subbing for 360 month to month as a smart consumer who can wait for the 360 rewards as opposed to someone who is subbing for larger chunks to get the rewards early. The key piece is early. The fact that you must have something now as opposed to waiting out the longevity requirements shows that there is an attitude of gimme gimme gimme.

You are paying for a sub for access, not the vet rewards. The deal you are referring to is a free addon such as rims to the car or some other package(vet rewards), and paying full MSRP would be equivalent to paying the full price on the sub. Keeping in mind that 6 months of sub time is getting a discount on full MSRP since you get the standard sub discounted to the rate of a basic sub. You are complaining that the tickets aren't good enough to you. Sure it's about customer satisfaction, but satisfaction only goes so far for freebie items. Your satisfaction should be coming from content within the game, not the veteran rewards you are given.

Why are you making this sound like a bad thing? It isn't. I apologize for not clarifying something that I assumed would be easy to comprehend. Also, I never said it was a bad thing. You are ignoring the fact that you are being given the vet rewards early because you have fulfilled the obligation to access the game for a predetermined amount of time. Your incentive for subscribing at all is vet rewards and the discounted rate is for subbing for a longer time. The fact that you get the vet rewards early is a given because you chose to pay for that access. And once again since this discussion is about longevity rewards, for all intensive purposes, they do make the same profit.

Offering a fourth "Fav" slot for Aetherite would be a better reward in the long term.

You've just bought a new car and you're told you've come at a good time because there's a special offer on and you're going to get some "free", "special" alloy wheels as an extra at no additional cost. They bring the wheels out - They suck. They're awful and you'd rather have the original trims.

As a customer purchasing a car - Are you genuinely saying you wouldn't ask for an alternative set of alloy wheels - if the ones on offer were (in your opinion), terrible? Or would it just be terribly rude to refuse the awful alloys, because they're "free"?

It seems to me that we have a split between the savvy consumers amongst us and the "let's just get what we're given" lot.

Not really my analogy, but let's run with it... Then don't use the tickets and discard them? I guess it would be more pertinent to tell SE to keep their tickets and you will stick to just the minion? Sure you can ask, but the whole point of the special offer is the crap wheels. Sure you can decline the wheels(special offer), but to think that you deserve better wheels is asinine. At the same time, this isn't all inclusive, you might ask and they say we have these other wheels. But the special offer is a specific set of wheels. It's not rude to refuse the wheels. It's rude to say this isn't good enough for me bring forth better wheels.

EDIT: To reiterate, my stance on these tickets is that it is an odd choice for a vet reward for 360 days. Of course there are other things it could be, but it's free, and comes with the access I am paying for. I pay to play a game, not for some rewards that I may very likely never use more than a couple times. Honestly, I will probably use the 50 free tickets more than I ever use any other vet reward. Definitely not wearing the swimsuit. The fantasia, not needed. If I could sell it I would. I would probably give it away if I could. Don't find the Ahriman mount that awesome. YMMV of course.

Did anyone ever stop to think that there's a high possibility that there will be an event around the year anniversary, that will give us all something unique? Something beyond the Veteran Rewards? It doesn't look like it.

Did anyone ever stop to think that there's a high possibility that there will be an event around the year anniversary, that will give us all something unique? Something beyond the Veteran Rewards? It doesn't look like it.

So much butt hurt in this thread over something so simple and weird attachment to a date.

Your monthly payment is going towards the ongoing maintenance of the game, servers, network, employees, and other properties associated with FFXIV/SE.

The veteran rewards are a gift, a small gesture of good will for paying for their product. You don't have to like them, you don't even have to receive them.

Your options are use them or don't, simple.

Honestly I just don't think there's a reason to be complaining about it. That's it. I don't think there needs to be a "Petition" to change a simple veteran reward.

Like I just said in a more recent post, it doesn't look like anyone stopped to think that there is a possibility that there will be something bigger waiting for us at the year anniversary than just a veteran reward.

My comments come off condescending but I don't intentionally mean it this way. Everyone is just always demanding more from the dev team and it's just so exhausting because I know the work they're doing. There's bigger things for them to worry about than putting excess work into a veteran reward. Like, oh I don't know. The expansion they're about to start production on. I'd rather have a quality expansion than bother the dev team about changing a veteran reward.

That's actually different though. One is commemorating the games longevity vs our own personal longevity.

They can't just keep scaling up the rewards...you can't have something bigger than a behemoth mount. I mean literally bigger. Veteran rewards aren't going to have any kind of advantage to them that will make other players "not as good as you" or anything. I think they'll be strictly vanity items.

That's why I think this is actually a step in a different direction, the 50 tickets are actually of use. And maybe they're the first step to a whole year of items that might scale up as far as how useful they are to you without affecting others negatively who don't have that "prestige" yet.

Think of other reasons. Don't just automatically think we're all being shafted. I can't figure out why people think this way.

I almost wish there weren't veteran rewards because it's now another thing for everyone to complain about if they don't get what they want...

I never would have thought people would complain about veteran rewards...

nobody said scale up, just don't scale down. they don't have any other mount ideas or bardings? many people even just asked for Fantasia. an extra Favorite teleport spot every year would be nice too.

Or... everyone complaining about people complaining about one of the rewards could have just not said anything.

And see, right there. People will complain about your idea. There are people complaining that all these different mounts are useless and they don't want them. People literally just complain and complain. There's no winning. There will be tons of new mounts in the future. But they can't be JUST veteran rewards. And they can't be every other month...

But then there's people complaining about everyone complaining about people complaining about one of the rewards so everyone could just say nothing and there would be no complaining :p And people can come on the forums to discuss new ideas instead of trying to change ideas already in motion

it's not every or every other month, it's every 3 months, but we don't want mounts every 3 months. strictly vanity items are good, perishable items are not. was there a thread that complained about Behemoth and Ahriman mounts?

Outfit, Mount, Barding, Favorite Teleport, they can rotate those 4 every year. if there's ever personal housing they can throw in a unique piece of furnishing.

12-hour recharge Mor Dhona ring (every expansion can have one of these).

tons of things you can do that's not a perishable stack worth 25k max.

Not those mounts specifically, but there was a thread complaining about too many mounts XD And I went in there with the same attitude. I said "Are you serious? People ask for mounts, we get mounts, people complain there's too many mounts." So that's just become my general attitude toward most things that seem to complain about things that really don't hinder gameplay. It's tiring to see those types of threads...especially when there's dozens of them all saying the same thing and all on the front page.



But, yeah, I get it. You think Veteran Reward should be something non perishable. You're right. But I mean, I don't know. There was never a rule saying it can't be either. And you're still getting a badass Odin mount minion...you're not completely empty-handed when you use those tickets.

....You know, I'd be for the idea of changing it if we got an Odin mount. But that's not happening XD And it'd make Sleipnir less unique. And again, to me it's a veteran reward and though you get perishable items, you still get an odin minion to show you've been there for a year. A lot of people won't really care honestly...they'll be like "oh cool you have that minion" and they too will get it eventually. Basically, I would have had a much different reaction to this thread if it weren't titled "Petition to change" Because like I've pointed out, that's not going to change anyone's mind at SE just because it says "Petition." I just don't think that veteran rewards need to be subject to change just because players ask or demand for it. The meat of the game is not found within vanity veteran rewards. That's just how I see it.

I was merely point out that the parents giving a kid $20 one year after giving $100 the year before is a poor analogy because the only reason a parent would do that is because they just can't give you $100. A loving parent would give you anything you want if they could. Square Enix is not your parents. I was just saying the analogy just didn't work lol.

P.S. I'm not complaining, I just dislike the name. My emphasis lies more in the female-connotation of being "glamorous" in a Western Society... which' why I bring up the point I can't hide my earrings or necklace. Some may disagree, but I already feel forced into too much femininity in the game already.
