VIERA AND HROTHGAR COMPLAINT MEGATHREAD

I'm glad we got our ears fixed... Even though it's not so much a fix and more just allowing them to show which honestly wasn't difficult when modders had it working in like an hour on day 1.

That said, I'm glad they listened. Although this doesn't really make me feel -good- it does at least satisfy me a bit. So, thank you for listening Square. My only other request would be to make it so we can wear the behemoth helm and get one more masculine-adjacent hairstyle, really.

I was just looking at new Rinascita sets and headpieces and I thought of something.
Do you guys think the dev team could swap the way headpieces with a /visor feature work; or maybe even add a new feature allowing both ways to work simultaneously
what I mean about that is toggling headpiece and immobile visor; that way Viera and Hrothgar could at least wear that sublime Venetian mask.

No, simply put they would have to rework the hat system and ontop of that adjust all hat models with visor that's infinitely more work than just giving the hairs ( viera male + female + hrothgar is around 111 ) the missing component ( parts getting hidden and deformed ) necessary to enable hats on viera, plus the occasional hat model that might need adjustment.

they don't have to. The only thing they need is work. If a bunch of game design students can make helmets work, with hair, with visors, and without changing any systems, a bunch of seasoned designers can.

I posted this in the other 'complaint' thread, but for Viera I would love to have this option for hats that just won't work with ears.

Honestly I think the clipping would be minimal. There is already hair models that go down the front pretty far, and the back ears wouldn't be much worse that ponytails already are. /shrug

Seriously? Couldn't they make a unique model for viera, especially if they are going to charge actual money for it? Removing ears is a nice little "fix", but this is normalization that I would really, really like to not see. As I said in my quoted post, I didn't even realize it was a viera until I saw a larger version of the image!

I didn't know it was a Viera until I read the second bit, I had to double take!
I'm not impressed by them removing racial features, it's just unnecessary and I know Square Enix can do so much better than this. Are the Hrothgar able to wear this too? If so, what does it look like on them?

Right? This is exactly why our racial features need to not be just CUT OFF! They definitely can do better, that's the sad part!

I'd bet they can, but their ears most likely get cut off too. Might not look as egregious as on viera though. Maybe a hrothgar will post in here or somewhere else wearing it.

I did not buy it myself cause the "Removal of tail" is an instant no for me. But I found here a video of someone that plays as Hrothgar and has bought it. I think it looks pretty cute on them, wish the tail didn't get deleted.

I came here to see how it looks on Viera. I had no idea that that was a Viera, just thought it was a midlaner, until you pointed it out.

What worries me the most is that this is going to become a trend. I'm trying to wake up some of the community on a post I made about racial traits, but it seems that few people care about that.
My only hope is that a decent MMORPG will emerge, so that I can do the same thing I did with Blizzard.

It worries me as well, as I have said. This is all normalization. Unfortunately, even among viera/hrothgar, and tailed race players, there are those who are completely fine with it as long as they can get hats, etc.. I'm the type of person that would literally be unable to use a piece if it removed my racial features. I wouldn't be caught in anything that removed my ears! When I still played au ra, I had made a thread about tails being removed, that thread was largely about all the capes being introduced in EW that removed tails.

The thing is, personally, I really like this game, and want to see it better, and not drop in quality. So I will keep giving feedback, and hoping that things will get better. I do hope if some new, good, competition in the mmorpg scene arrives, that might be a wake up call for SE.

That Fat Cat outfit looks like it went through no quality assurance at all. Not that I'm surprised at this point.
Even Lalas got shafted, with their hands being messed up by certain emotes when wearing the top/gloves.

I kinda prefer that the tail is hidden on the fat cat suit. Having a tail stick out of the fat cat tail could be dumb. Like the raindeer outfit

I see what you mean, but the comparison is not a good one. The reindeer suit is more of a body suit while the fat cat top is a hoodie. They could have just programmed the tails to bend in such a way that it would not have poked through the hoodie. And I think this wouldn't have been that much to ask from a 22$ outfit.

Honestly I barely care about glams and I see this as a problem. Was planning on complaining for the first time in years but just found your post so I'll complain here.
Started playing about 3 years ago and choose Viera as a joke but ended liking how they look and don't really like the other races so I ain't swapping.
My issue with this is I remember clearly when they said they would make the changes for Vieras. We went through a pandemic and a new expansion so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited. It's been 3 years, where is the content? I remember seeing them talk about statistics and player preference with races. I lost count of the people I've heard saying they would like to play Viera but don't because of the headgear/hairstyle situation. Who tf was the person who thought about using those skewed statistics for anything?!

I stood silent and never complained but it's been 3 years, content got cut off from SHB, a delayed EW, a shit ton of assets reused for EW and you're telling me they can't make some basic stuff any modder would do in 2 nights for a few pennies? what do I call this if not a lie by the devs or pure incompetence. The "pandemic" excuse ain't passing after 3 years when it comes to some basic animations Yoshi. Ooooh but let's make the entire goddamn bunny boys! there sure is time for that!

I mean, the hoodie could've been slightly shorter to avoid tail clipping, or have the bun thingy painted over and let the tails poke through it. Heck, it even looks like it's just painted over because it stretches when you run - at least on a Hroth, it goes from bun tail to baboon butt.

If anything, it's the audacity that 3 races have to sacrifice their actual tails so the other 5 can pretend to have one

There are many ways they could have made this top WITH tails in mind from the start, but I might take a guess that they designed it on a hyur initially.

The problem is tailed races seem to be an afterthought, even though they collectively encompass the largest portion of the playerbase, as far as I am aware. Luckily, as a viera, I don't have to worry about tail clipping, but the normalization of the removal of racial features in general, and ears especially, definitely does not make me happy. Not to mention female hrothgar will have tails, I presume, so on top of this, they will have another tailed variant.

Exactly, it was never a problem for this to happen in the past, why now? There are ways to make this less awkward, like removing the tail from clothes for races that already have a tail, or painting a fake tail, as mentioned before, etc. It only takes 1 creative mind within the SE, but apparently they must have fired theirs and never hired a new one

don't be fooled, SE don't give a f*** about what's strange, or not. They developed this outfit for Hyur, and passed it on to the other races, so it doesn't have tails or ears.

I really love it that the tail is gone with that hoodie. In my opinion we should have the choice if we want tails or not, in the character editor, for most of the races.

There are already NPC crossraces like Aymeric (Hyr-Elezen) or that little Miqogirl who has features from both Miqo tribes (eyes AND teeth), so I think it should be okay to allow the players more customization. There are many Viera players who want a tail, and people like me who don't like tails that much. For example I really don't like all the tail-clipping.

And if someone decides for 'tail:yes', than it should be visible most of the time, also on such a hoodie. : 3

I love it, that when I wear that new hoodie and a cap, that I look almost like a human. But to be honest I would like to play a human guy if they would be prettier in FF14. : )

that would be the key to solving many problems. I would love to have the option of having paws instead of feet on my viera, and maybe even put on a rabbit's tail if I had the option. I don't care about having 4 ears on some clothes, I care more about having mine plucked.

It's almost as if in real life, your ears don't magically go away just because you're wearing a hood, mask or tiara.

lol tho, here I am saying "in real life" though this is Final Fantasy.

The point is that racial traits are being an afterthought. Ears should really not be this much of a hassle. Despite the fact that Hyurs really are just a template. Usually, you'd go from the template and then adjust it as it's necessary.

For Elezen you stretch them up, for Lalafell you shrink it down and adjust, Au Ra you take the Elezen model to work out the hips and adjust for horns, Miqo'te have no discernable differences other than the ears and the tail, and finally for Roegadyn you stretch them wide.

I fail to see why adding two more steps to this is so bad. We have 5 races to adjust from the additional template race. It's been like this for years, I fail to see why this is such a problem. Especially when Vieras are the same as Miqo'te, and Hrothgar will be similar to Roegadyn. In general, we've:
- Reduced the amount of dungeons per patch.
- Reduced the amount of time per patch.
- Are getting "delayed" content (Relics used to come out sooner).
- Been told new stuff are on their way when problems with the game persist.

We're not playing Hyurs. If I wanted to play a Hyur, I'd play a Hyur.

This is going to be controversial, but I agree with some people when they say that adding to customization to that level is the least of our concerns at the moment... to an extent.

Rather, I'm wary of telling "Look, either you want us to fix this or you want us to give you more stuff, you can't have both" and irritate an already irritable dev team (their reactions toward Hrothgar asking for stuff in the past two patches have been lukewarm at best). BUT at the same time, other MMOs do add stuff to their character creation menu over time. Yet for some reason, FF14 only expands their hair collection. The most recent addition that weren't hairstyles was a stubble for Hyur Midlanders.

So while I think that for now we need to focus on bringing both races up to par and exercise patient. And with that, I'll even ask Vieras to not abandon us Hrothgar when Vieras get innevitably finished first... I fear so much for Hrothgar would not have had been done had it not been for Viera players also joining in and help us boost our threads, for better or worse. And these traits must come later.

The issue is that for all this to work, Square needs to stop posturing and work on it, which they aren't for some reason.
Is that reason money? Are they that defunded?
Is that reason technical issues? Is the system truly not designed to expand on player experience while esoteric stuff like umbrellas and the Fellowship system get added?
Is that reason the technicians themselves? Have they been relocated, or are they busy with something else?
Is the reason just "we don't want to"? If so, why not just say so and keep to your word? So far, things have been ambiguous, and saying "It's Impossible" has become synonymous with "not now, eventually, maybe". That's not what "Impossible" means. Be clearer.
Whatever reason, we just don't know.

But we do know the game is capable of so much more. That we races can have so much more. How much does Square need to remove from the game or delay from the game to make room for us any more than what they've already done? And are we even the reason why things get delayed to begin with?

Some erm... shall we call them either "fan fixes" or "non-sanctioned additions", include, but are not limited to:

- Paw-like feet on Hrothgar
- Paw-like hands on Hrothgar
- Whitening of our god-awful yellow-tinged teeth. What are we, the FF14 forums? Delete that garbage yellow hue, in with a white so white it makes White Mages jealous.
- Hair. Just hair. You know you don't need to go overboard when fans do it better than you, do you Square?
- Head gear
- Animations. Not everyone is keen on the hunchback.

Aww, that's nice to read. I seemed to be at odds with hrothgar players there for awhile, but I was coming from a place of support, even if many hrothgar players didn't like how I worded things. I am a heavily aesthetics oriented player, and even if I don't necessarily like certain things I am still, generally, for more options (again, within reason), whenever available for the players who want them, and the quality of which everyone deserves. Like I have said in the past, I thought viera and hrothgar were in the same boat, and I am pretty sure hrothgar players didn't like me saying that either.
