Boost spiritbond rate based on how much lower you're syncing than your actual level, but only with a full party.

Higher level players need a reason to join up with lower levels. This mechanic would need to have a maximum to it, so that there's no abuse with lower level characters. If spiritbonding is faster by joining a lower level party (and in this case, the lowest level party you can find) people will actually do it. This rewards players looking to help their friends or randoms out, and gives the low level parties a larger player pool to search from.

I disagree with this but not fully so. I think the system was brilliantly thought out and it was up to the players to decide if everyone had to sync to the lowest or not. Which if you did EXP was better so how was that an issue? I do agree with the gear part that gear shouldn't have been nerfed to being useless but they probably didn't want to re-itemize every single piece of gear to fit for every level gap because FFXI had a mad grip amount of items. Though I do think the system would work essentially the same but with modifications all around because the game works differently anyways. Though I would like to see this built into 2.0 so there would be a lot less likely to run into any kind of issues that would definitely arise if put into current FFXIV.

That post was for the person I quoted directly. Server mergers are about to happen so if your server is currently dead and has no new players it will soon. I have seen an influx of new players on Wutai and majority of the time there is a low to mid level party going on but the problem is at the moment is not that many players left have classes below 30, so your post makes sense a level sync would be godsend.

I think in the player's poll I put in a request for level sync in every box I was told for more info. I tied the lack of sync into all my concerns. :P

Right now I also along with other LS members who went on a extended vacation back when everyone PL'd or partied their jobs 30-50 have just been taking turns PLing each other's jobs up to 30-35ish just so we can start getting xp parties. Its the most boring thing ever but it beats sitting inmy Inn or in Ul'dah shouting for an exp party in the teens and wasting the whole day getting nothing done.

If you don't want to be power leveled nobody is forcing you. Complaining that you have to do it because it is there is stupid and amounts to you having to drink smoke or do drugs because they exist. Stop it.

Level Sync was a system that broke FFXI far more than power leveling ever could have. It allowed people to find specific level ranges to maximize their exp gain and did not equal parties happening at every level any more than not having it does. While the concept was cool and really useful when not abused, I feel it was abused far more than it was used correctly... and in the end you had people at 75 in FFXI who had never used an ability passed the 30s because they never had a party that wasn't capped to 36 or some-such.

I don't want to say that there is not a problem with low level leveling as I see a lot of people bring it up and at a glance it seems like it can be a pain in the ass. I believe this needs to be remedied with more interesting, engaging and fun leves (along with possibly more rewarding, I don't know the exp gain from them at this point), or an entirely different system of battle of questing to reward players time. I don't think this game will ever offer solo/duo play an exp rate on par with a party, though.

At the moment we are in a lull where a large majority of players have most classes 50 or every class they want 50 to 50, which leaves the overall low level party scene pretty dry. The problem there is in the fact this game is not pulling in new players, nor are there new classes being added or players leveling alternate characters up. When 2.0 hits (if this game succeeds) you will see a large influx of people to play with, and while I realize that's a long time away that is just how this is going to work. I'd ask that you just be patient and work your way up, or cave and just get help with it... but I see some people saying that getting rid of power leveling is the answer, and it's not.

Truthfully every time I see people complaining about power leveling, I just see someone who spent too much time leveling and is now mad somebody else did it faster. It's really just self-absorbed, and while I understand some people think power leveling caused this legitimately and aren't just elitists, I just can't agree for the previously mentioned reasons.

But hey, Lv.Sync actually did help FFXI, it actually gave veterans like myself the ability to level with newbies without hand-tossing them a Lv.75 job, nothing that Power Leveling is capable of.

Sorry, but PL in FFXI was a whole different beast than it is in this game. Players actually still had to participate and pay relative attention to the action. By worlds, it was still much more entertaining than what we now have. Tanks still had to voke first, pullers still had to pull, nukers still got to nuke. We don't have any of that in this PL system.

I think you have made some good points, Xoo. PL'ing in this game is quite ridiculous. The PL system in XI made much more sense, because as you have said, it still required you to work for your levels. Whereas the system we have now in XIV requires you to do literally nothing. You sit there while someone else progresses your character for you. And while Nikita may be right in saying that it is a part of the game, that it is intended by the the devs to be there, that alone doesn't make it a good system or change the fact that it really makes no sense. It is a loop hole that allows you to avoid any and all effort required to advance your character.

The gaming community has become so demanding of instant gratification now days, so it is easy to see why some many are in favour of a system that lets you skip over actually doing any work. I am one of the few that is a bit saddened by this because I feel that this type of mentality and what it procures can really be harmful to the future of MMOs. I know many will disagree and there really isn't much point in me posting anything here, but I feel that Xoo made some very good points and just wanted to throw him some support for whatever it is worth.

Best solution in my opinion: Add in level sync and a bit more low level content to make early progression easier. Keep the PL system, but design it to function in the way that XI's did. This still gives you the option to level with your friends who may be much higher than you using the level sync option or have a friend who is already at level cap assist you by helping from outside the party. This would seem to please the most people I would think, it is as close to pleasing both sides as we could possibly get.

the new type of players are not against "doing work" as you put it. They just want FUN content to do. If it is not fun then why do it? The problem is you have to do monotonous things to do the FUN stuff at endgame with your friends, which is why "some" prefer to skip the monotonous part (not me I kinda like it).

This problem universal boils down to a lack of a fun game mechanic in most mmos.

I understand what you are saying, Jake. But the solution to this problem is not keeping a broken mechanic that allows players to afk while someone else (who has potentially put in weeks of time grinding) progresses their character for them.

The solution is to give better grouping options, that allow older higher level players to group with new, lower level players. And then to give them more fun and engaging content so they are not forced to only endure monotony.

This query right here speaks volumes. My problem is people apparently are only concerned with getting to the end of the game, which there is none, spamming all the dungeons/NM's they can to keep up with with the Jones's. If you the value of your fun is only equal to what the next guy has in his inventory, then have fun forever chasing your own tail!

While I would love to not participate in level sync if it was added, we all know that's now how it will work.

There won't be any EXP parties other than mites and natalan.

I was in a "leveling" group th eother day at mites, not a PL group, a leveling group.

We were all in 30s iwas told to equip fire on my pugilist and the whole pt just spammed fire while 1 person swarmed them up. that was not fun and i did not even use 1 class skill that entire party.

Its not just PL its the whole party system/battle why pull single when you can just pull all and everyone hit fire

Broke it ? LOL, are you daft? It brought people back who quit and is still one of the functions that keeps the game going strong. It may have personally broke it for you but it was a major success.

(Anyone and/or Everyone) I will offer the same advice I offer to everyone. If you don't like PL or the upcoming Level sync that will just add more variety and function to the game. Please just do us a huge favor delete your character, quit the game and quit your account. I am all for you having your own opinion but if all you can do is complain about something you personally thought broke a game or didn't like. Just leave. Problem solved.

Good point, we do need more engaging content. I would love it if there were fun things to do like quests with interesting mechanics, especially group quests, even PvP will be offering EXP as a reward in 2.0. The problem is, they are adding all of this end game content like AF armor, dungeons, primals, NMs, etc and there is no fun and engaging content to do along the way (well, maybe besides Toto Rak...). They are faced with a decision, force players to endure through leveling methods they find to be a bore (grinding monsters/leves) or give them the option to bypass it so they can participate in all of this fun stuff.

I will admit that "afk leveling" is not a good system, but it's what they gave us. Until they give is something more desirable, its the only alternative we have. I think what the developers have in mind is, instead of taking away the only method of circumventing the grind, they are going to leave it in until the new systems are fully fleshed out in 2.0.

The simple fact is that in its current state, leveling is not a fun process for many people, and while I understand that some people may love grinding monsters, not everyone shares that sentiment. Just like some people aren't satisfied with end game, some people aren't satisfied with leveling. Both areas are lacking.

All I want are additional methods of leveling, once they deliver that, I could not care less about PLing.

i miss the classic camps , the pull the mob to the group, and dungeon crawls while leveling. i looked for that but all i could find was pull all hit fire and wait for respawn.

what if they were to add level sync with an incentive? look at EQ2 mentoring system not saying it has to be exactly that but an incentive or a + from high levels jumping down

That sounds like it really sucked. I'd have told them to go screw, I'm punching things. The problem is that there is so little consequence for a total lack of battle strategy right now that it doesn't matter who tanks. Mobs need much greater attack & defense.

i want fights to last more than 2 seconds

what is boring about the leveling now is the mindless grind rinse and repeat on the same exact mobs. There are tons of mobs out there but ill go kill mites instead of goats cuz they are easier.

Marmots -> Dodos-> Mites->Raptors welcome to lv 50

tons of mobs no reason to fight anythign esle i can mass pull these and aoe them down no problem

Whatever happened to havign a deticated heal tank and cc ?

Unfortunately, there are many EXP camps all over the world at all level ranges, but players have always looked for efficiency and ease of the kill. Mobs that don't AoE and have weak defense are going to be at the top of the list.

I thought lvl sync worked pretty damn good in XI. I also agree that the amount of PLing going on is pretty ridiculous. The majority of people "lvling up" are just getting PL'd, so it removes them from the pool of people that are even searching for or making exp parties. I honestly don't see what is so popular about PLing. With the jobs, you don't even need so many classes leveled up. Most people are not doing it to "catch up to their friends", they are doing it because it's easymode and they have nothing better to do i guess.

Power Leveling doesn't necessarily ruin this game, but it takes away from progression of your character. Some people won't know what half their abilities do near/at 50, won't know what causes the most hate, etc etc.

I've powerleveled a friend 3 levels ONLY because I wanted to be in range with him to party up. Level sync would make situations like this possible without power leveling.

And no one is asking for super hardcore leveling like XI. Steady progression, not a monotonous grind. Why can't we just have that?

It's more like....people were never here to being with, past the first week....maybe month? Servers have been pretty desolate for a very long time.

at the least, there needs to be a direct option right in the main menu that says "Seek Party", and it places an icon next to your name by hitting Enter.

Maybe even an option right underneath that that says "Search Party Members", and a UI pops up with options.

If it's not buried in a confusing menu system, maybe more people would seek rather than either shout, or find something else to do.

Well I'm glad you can acknowledge that it is not a good system. An even bigger problem than the system itself, is the amount of people who actually think it's brilliant.

And you are right, simply put: leveling is not fun right now. Some enjoy the grind, but many do not. It would be most beneficial for this game to have a decent climb of content leading to 50. Things like a few more low level dungeons like Toto-rak or even Shposhae with some repeatable group quests tied in. Hamlet defence battles could also provide some more leveling opportunities if they stagger the level ranges for various hamlet locations. There just needs to be some degree of option in order to break the monotony. Once this has been accomplished there is no need for a PL system.

As for level sync. Some people really seem to misunderstand the concept of this system. First, I will say that I was NOT a fan of this system in XI. With "skill levels" it produced seriously gimped players once they finally decided to start partying with people at their actual level. It also produced players who did not know how to play their role in a proper party setup.

These are risks you will always run with this type of system. As many have said above, people will always look for the quickest and most efficient method of progression. And once they find it, it will undoubtedly become one of the most popular methods. However, saying that no other methods will exist after that is a huge exaggeration.

But there are way to help prevent this from happening, certain limitations could be put into place on the gains from level syncing, limitations on range of levels that can be synced down to, etc. The point of the system is to allow players to play together, regardless of their level range. The concept is a good one, it can really help foster population growth in the game by allowing people to interact more with the new players coming to the game. Like any other system, there will always be those who over-use or miss-use the system, but it does not always negate the initial benefits of the system.

It's been posted in various places (see here for one example), but this is the heart of the matter. Right now we have two truly viable ways to level battle classes, leves and straight up grinding.

Personally, there is nothing I hate more than standing around, killing random monsters over and over, with no objective other than to grind out exp. So I'm back to square one, leves. >.<

If we had some engaging leveling content like a good bulk of quests, dungeons, hamlet defense, PvP, and implementing a public quest system (all it would take is expanding on the Behest concept), people wouldn't want to just get through the leveling process like a bad tasting cough syrup. The goal of any good MMO is to have the player feel like they're playing the game and having fun, and they just happen to be leveling while doing it.

But, unfortunately Yoshi-P was given a game with one leveling outlet, with no other content or endgame to really speak of. I would have rather the dev team given us more dungeons and things to do along the way, instead of totally blowing the lid off the leveling pace and making PLing possible to funnel everyone toward endgame. But I understand that since much of this version of the game is going to be scrapped, they probably only had enough time/resources to choose either low-mid leveling content, or endgame. I still think they could have somehow found some middle ground, but they didn't, they chose a bandaid, probably thinking that with the small playerbase it wouldn't be detrimental to the future of the game once 2.0 hits and we get an influx of new and returning players.

For them to be right about that, however, it is essential that the dev team put a stop to power leveling in its current form when 2.0 hits. Even more so, there must be leveling content in 2.0 so that people don't want to power level, they want to play the game. Otherwise, the entire point is moot.

I love actual quests, not fetch quests, not kill 4 of these, or go get 10 of these drops from a mob....

Real stories, entertaining content, I've even done some in the past that made me cry, but many also that were FUN!!!!! Questing is by far my favorite option for leveling.

I wish we had more interesting and well developed quests,

People quit originally because the game sucked, some stayed around til the game started charging and quit because the game sucked still. The game has a came a long ways but in many ways it still sucks. I still play because I have hopes for 2.0 and I have friends that play.

In spite of the fact that I completely disagree with you in this thread, my reasons for hanging about are exactly the same as yours. However, I notice you use the word 'sucks' not once, not twice, but a total of 3 times in your first paragraph as you described how you felt about the game. Yet, amazingly, you feel you have some place in advising me to "just quit the game since you don't like it!" - 100% Hypocritical.

I play the game because despite the MAJOR short comings, at it's core it is a beautiful game. The graphics are what keeo me here I am not going to lie.

Honestly Jake, unless they remove Powerleveling, there is no real point in implementing Level Sync. So essentially, as we all have heard that Yoshida supports PL, this entire thread has been a dead horse from the start.
