I just got kicked from a dungeon because of the sounds my Lala makes when she attacks

I've had a nice sit-down and have decided the reason listed for expulsion is too asinine to be the entire reason.

Either the snippet of conversation posted is presented out of context, or there was an underlying issue. Most likely candidate would be underperformance, since the "accused" couldn't talk about it directly so they just made up nonsense on the spot.

The fact that the conversation exists as a screenshot at all likely means the op went all the way to the point of adding someone on another server to their contacts, then harassed them when they were out of dungeon, demanding an explanation for why they were kicked.

Ultimately, at least two other people (perhaps three) simply didn't want the op in there, and no amount of tos or report fudgery would make them want to keep them around.

SE is powerless when a party doesn't want a player around, so take the L and move on.

Majority vote is a proper dismissal.

These imply the speaker have some semblance of authority to be issuing a command to the subject. ("I, as your parent, am telling you to do your homework.") There may be no intention of authority, but it implies it all the same.

Just like when I took cpr training, when they train you on the auto defib, the instructions are not to shout out to a crowd of people for someone to call an ambulance... the directions are to very clearly point at someone and say, "Call 911." You assume and assert authority on the situation.

I absolutely do think that. Would I want to read them? No, but I don't set the forum's guidelines or standards. If people DID do that, than I expect something would be done about it - like making a separate forum for it, if/when the need justifies it.

I did in that case. Made the report, requeued, moved on. In other instances were I get trolled, I grumbled for a second, and then went to do what I set out to. I didnt sit on it and get angry or let it consume my thoughts. Thats all there is to it. Again, you can either sit on somethign and let it eat you up or you can just say "Screw it" and move on to doing more productive things.

This is the point youre missing. Youre expending energy on 'punishing' people and getting invested and upset over it where most of us agree its a stupid thing and its frustrating, but the key choice is to just let it go. This isnt as if they hacked your account, or were volleying slurs and harassment. This isnt them making overt and sustained efforts to prevent you from playing the game. This is a one off over a silly thing that honestly should be chalked up to "Yeah, some people are jerks. Do something better with your time than sit there and be angry."


And honestly, from my perspective and experiences, running to the GMs on minor junk like this doesnt make communities better. It makes people paranoid, shuts down friendly conversations out of fear of insult, or emboldens bad faith people because they get a rise from riling you up. There are playeres who would read this thread, and laugh at it's absurdity and then set out to do it themselves because they know that there are people who will get upset over it. Theyre jerks, but they exist, and this isnt being solved by getting angry over it. All the while everyone else just decides to keep their head down and disengage cause its easier.

I think yelpin' when getting hit is okay but the attack voices are annoying. Mainly beacuse there are only a few sounds that constantly repeat.

People like the one OP described aren't worth your time, because you haven't experienced a kick for the reason they were. If catgirls started getting kicked from parties because they were annoying, how would you react then?

While I’m glad that you understand the message behind my message, I think you’re reading way too much into the way I talk. This is just the way I talk. I do not sugarcoat; I come across as very blunt. And that is not me intending to sound like any sort of authority figure. That is just the way I talk, and if it comes off aggressive, then all I can do is apologize.

However, when you have a back and forth with someone insisting “let it go and go about your day” is the same as “what the kicker did was fine; nothing wrong happened”, I think they should learn the difference. Telling them to learn it is not me being aggressive nor am I trying to act as the “forum police”; it’s simply me telling them to learn the difference because there is one. It’s a common trend on this forum through to accuse people of defending actions when they say things like that, though.

Hmm, that’s not really what I was asking, though. I asked should people make 50 threads about the same thing. And I don’t think they should—because it’s clutter (just look at the healer subforum right now). As I said, though, OP seems new to the OF. So maybe they weren’t aware of the Tales of the Duty Finder thread. I highly suggest posting in there though—and maybe even reading it. Some of the stuff in there is so unbelievable its a bit hilarious.

But again, my issue isn’t with the existence of the thread. It’s with the misconstruction of a single sentence said by someone else—the twisting it into something it never was.

Except it is not. There is a difference between someone saying “don’t let it get to you” and “what they did was okay”. “Don’t let it bother you” is advice for your peace of mind. If you can’t see the difference between the two statements, I really don’t know what to tell you.

This won’t bring attention to the issue. This thread will not be read by a GM—only a report will. No action will come out of it. It’s essentially people commiserating with a few others jumping all over people who think the OP should not let it bother them for their own sake.

I actually already said what I would do in this situation in the same post I first responded to you in—laugh and shrug it off. Because whoever kicked me is a loser I wouldn’t want to play with anyways. I don’t think I’d bother reporting it because it’s not worth my time. I have reported behaviors in the past I thought were more demanding of a report, but someone getting triggered because he doesn’t like catgirls? Well, that sounds like a personal problem.

You’re also acting like this is a common trend. Last I heard, it’s not. People don’t get kicked every day for being a Lalafell or because their character has an annoying voice.


I have been Vote Dismissed before for the silliest of things—explaining mechanics. But the difference there is I just let it go. The dismissal was a blessing anyways. That party was a hot mess.

If I'm understanding correctly, you have not been kicked from a party due to your selected race or voice. With that in mind, how can you accurately say how you will respond for being kicked over that. If you spent 20-30 minutes in a 24-person raid, and were kicked at the last boss because your catgirl's voice is too annoying, would you just laugh it off?

You were kicked for something actively did. I have no control over the battle noises my character makes. You do have control over what you put in chat. With the little context given I don't want to weigh in on this that much though.

Well, not everyone has the luxury of time. Expecting people to be ok with having to devote an additional 30 minutes (plus df time) to re-running content they should not have been kicked from, is really a silly position to take. But if you are fine with it happening to you then good for you. :D

There's nothing improper about this kick. A majority of those in the party didn't want them there, so they were removed. This is preferable to people being forced to run with people they don't like, whether or not this comes as an inconvenience to the person that got removed.

Don't believe the OP, either. We're plainly not getting the whole story, and the fact an image exists tells me there's a good chance the OP themselves was engaging in outright harassing behavior after the kick.

I don’t have the luxury of time either, to be honest. In addition to school, I also just like to spend time doing other things that aren’t this game. However, my lack of luxury also means that I don’t spend a lot of my time getting so worked up over small things. There’s no point in letting a loser ruin my day because he was triggered over the race/voice of my video game character or something else that literally doesn’t matter.

I didn’t say they should be okay with it. I said they should shrug it off and not let it get under their skin/ruin their day. Feel free to quote where I said “be okay with being kicked” though.

I think it's more the fact that generally your posts come off as condescending and arrogant. Ruined their day? Again with no one insinuating or directly saying something. Leaving a sour taste in someone's mouth with the game, yes I am saying that. Playing games is typically a relaxing pastime for people. How relaxing is being kicked from a party where you did nothing to obstruct gameplay.

That's a bit of a stretch. I'm saying that being kicked over your character's voice is an issue. I have no clue if its happened once or a thousand times, but it should not happen again.

Its not really about people having thin skin. If someone gets kicked for their character's voice, or explaining a mechanic should they go into a depression and never play this game again? No of course not. But things like this do spoil the in game experience.

First of all the people who kicked me are on my server and both in the same FC.

Secondly he pmed me first after I was telling people at the car pile the funny story about how I got kicked from a dungeon because of my attack noises.

Thirdly the dungeon was The Tam-Tara Deepcroft and I cleared Final Omega savage so I can tell you right now it wasn't under-performance.

The entire conversation was started with him telling me "that's a good way to get blocked" after I /surprised the DC'd healer, me saying nothing until he told me to "fucking stop" while I was doing the 2 attacks I have as a warrior at that level and me having to explain to him that those sounds are from my attacks. After a period of nobody saying anything I got kicked.

No offense but coming in here acting like you know what happened with utmost certainty kind of just makes you look like a pretentious jerk.

They messaged me first because we are on the same server and I was talking about it at the FFXV fate because I could barely believe it even happened.

So basically as I've said, I /surprised the healer at the very start of the dungeon when she was dcing cause there was nothing else to do and then I did I quick /surprise when she came back to which he said was a good way to get blocked, and I didn't bother responding to him. This image is the entirety of that conversation because after some time of nothing being said I was just kicked.

I’m not bothered by you being bothered by this. You’re free to feel how you want. I am, however, bothered by you insisting that remarks like:

“Don’t let it bother you.”
“Don’t let it get under your skin.”
“Let it go and move on.”
“They aren’t worth your time”

Are the same as people defending someone doing something wrong, though.

It doesn’t take much to tell that these statements are not at all similar. If you cannot understand the difference between a statement basically meant to comfort/give peace of mind and a statement where someone is saying what the kicker did was okay, then again: I really don’t know what to say to you.

It’s also quite annoying that you actively choose to ignore where people have said things like “report the player if you feel like it warrants reporting” or “hey, what they did was crappy, but don’t let it get you down” in your responses just for your rhetoric; and how you keep drawing conclusions like this one:

When no one in the thread is saying what that person did was okay or defending the kicker. I think everyone is in agreement that they were stupid for kicking someone for their character’s battle sounds.

I just didn’t let it bother me past the five minutes after the kick—I vented to my friends and then went about my day, because those players weren’t worth the wallowing; which is some of the advice people are trying to give the OP (e.g., “Don’t let it bother you.”). Not letting something bother you is not the same as “being okay” with it, but you seem to constantly equate the two in your counters.

I got nothing against lalafells. I never call out other players. I begin every dungeon with a "hello". I end every dungeon with a "ty". Upon wiping, I try again.
I don't have a lot of optional duties unlocked (like raids), but I can do anything in the main story.

And no, I'm not trying to advertise or use the forums in place of the party finder. Outside of guaranteeing that one of your party members won't vote to kick you, I am 100% powerless to help you.

I don't see a correlation between what happened to the OP and the WoW community. Over the course of six years, I can count the number of times I saw a temper tantrum thrown in WoW's chat on my two hands (usually as a result of people being frustrated, having spent their weekend off trying to enjoy a raid only to wipe a dozen times on a boss), and I have never - not once - seen a player kicked from a group for something as petty as their character's voice, SFX, transmog/glamour, whatever. In fact, I've never even heard of a player being kicked like this any MMORPG until now.

I personally don't know any "WoW refugees". My friends and guildmates who dropped WoW didn't find a replacement game; they just stopped playing MMORPGs altogether. I suppose to them, FFXIV has a barrier of entry with the long MSQs to what they would consider "current endgame" and the anime/JRPG aesthetic that they deride.

I find this to be the most likely answer. They were probably a pre-made group that didn't like the OP for not going as fast as the group/whatever reason and just touted her voice lines as an excuse to shut the OP up and get back to their dungeon. When you're in a clique, you don't care so much about other people. Why care about that player you kicked who you will never see again anyway? What could've happened to the OP could've happened in any game with a LFD.

Pretty sure kicking someone for sounds there character is making is not one of kick options. If you kick someone and it is not one of the options don't get mad if GM contacts you and get banned for false kick. I ever get kicked and its not from one of the legal kick options I will always use report. Hope you did same thing. Its easy to find out who was in party from contacts.

I find this funny, not that it happened but that they felt the need to kick over it, like many people have said, if a voice of a character in a game annoys you that much, turn off the voices, that is a feature people can use, I even use it. Huge feels bad moment when people rather disrupt a player's run/experience so to speak instead of using a feature in the game. I don't even have anything against lalafells either haha. I'll never play one, but that's more cause I'm very set in stone with what I've got atm.

My take on that is something I've said earlier. Doing nothing and letting it pass without action (while saying one of these phrases) when you clearly know something is wrong is just a classy way of allowing this behavior to run through unchecked. I know you've personally stated in this thread that you don't let these things get to you, but you've also stated in this thread that you also vented to your friends about people doing things like this before. You say they're not worth your time, but they're also worth enough to vent over as well? The moment you go into that Duty Finder thread and post a blurb about them you're making time for them whether you want to admit it or not.

My final post here is going to be super simple and it's a reverb of the morality of the thread as a whole. If you see something that you clearly think is an issue/happens to you, (harassment, vote kicking abuse, slander, etc) just report it, blacklist, and move on. The entire report process takes under 2 min and it's better for the community. If your opinion on the issue compels you enough to make a thread in the forums about it or post in the duty finder story thread , it's worth a GM's attention if they're breaking the ToS. No one is mandating you report every single thing in the universe that happens while you play (as people said it would be just filing reports all day long), but if it's something clear and obvious abuse like the OP's situation it should be reported.

The mistake you’re making is you’re conflating me spending five minutes telling my friends or writing a post in the Tales thread about “Wow I just met someone really dumb in X Duty” and laughing with them about it with me letting it bother me/get under my skin. They are not the same thing. I have my five minute vent and then literally forget about it. Maybe I’ll recall it later for a laugh, but that’s not the same as letting it bother me.

Even if you are blameless, and yes I notice you haven't provided full logs, I'd rather people go through with a kick than suffer through a run with someone they simply don't get along with.

And sorry to the OP. I've seen some pretty suss claims about why people got kicked here that usually result in it being discovered they were lying, but I believe this story. Some people are definitely that petty and rude, and insist the entire game revolves around them.

Lol it will be a race to see who gets the vote kick option off first.

Jokes aside I do think if a majority of the voting party agree to remove a player then the reason for removal is valid. Sure one may not like or even approve of the reason, but at the end of day the majority party did agree to the kick.

As I said before OP you should be proud of the kick it was funny and now you have a cute story to share with people.
