I do not hardcore raid, only cleared 01s.. but in any situation I have been in, I give mana first to healers. That is not to say that I don't give it to others if they need it because I keep my Mana Shift on cd and check the full party list for people who need it and tend to prioritize healers because they need it. If no one needs it, I keep it to give to healers upon them being rezzed if they die.

I just have not seen a situation where RDM needed it but I will stress again, I don't hardcore raid.

That being said, the mana I have available is optimal and its very easy to recover even after death. Perhaps SMN's doing hardcore raiding in ex's, savage and ultimate coil are a different story, however.

Let's be realistic for a second; rez is not why BLM is out on its ass right now.
It's because every other ranged DPS offers utility that outpace BLM, except RDM which is literally hanging on for dear life primarily due to rez alone since Embolden does not provide enough to equal BLM's damage.

BRD, MCH and SMN offer levels of utility BLM's damage alone cannot hope to match.

The raise is an unbalance which is the last remaining thing which isn't in jobs within one role. Removing it from RDM and SMN is the best solution. It's a poor inconsistency which causes an eternal unbalance between BLM and SMN/RDM. There are no healers that prefer BLM over SMN/RDM. No raid groups want a BLM over a RDM, even with the massive DPS difference. The SMN/RDM raise is such a big factor in MP and swiftcast conservation in raiding, it can't be ignored in the balancing. It should simply be removed to be in line of the cross-role balancing that happened in 4.0. Sure it puts more pressure on the healers, maybe make the healer raise not as punishing in either MP cost or cast time. But removing the SMN/RDM raise would instantly balance the caster meta.

Even if BLM had the DPS it should've had, it's still unbalanced. Removing it from SMN/RDM still doesn't remove anything special, as both of them have it.

SE really need to grow some balls and nerf jobs, instead of this constant flow of buffs which only causes further unbalance.

I agree that they should remove it from RDM/SMN and give it to BRD/MCH.

Raise is useful to a RDM in a dungeon because if the healer goes down they can raise the healer and spot heal the tank and party while doing so.
Same goes for SMN, albeit with shittier heals.

People need to get off this meta crap, this I need more dps to be relevant crap, and just focus on working around the con's of a class/job. SE should be balancing the stats and skills around what's fun and most useful overall not this min/max bs for raiding and pvp. When you focus too much on raiding and pvp in a game for balance it leaves everything else unbalanced.

These type of threads are what piss me off the most, it's like people fail to see whats fun anymore and just want to number crunch everything. Oh that guy he does 1% dps than me, I better bitch about it on the forums until it gets nerfed and mine job/class gets a buff!

The only reason RDM has any skin in the game is because of a brief period of progression usefulness when 4+ people are dying within one minute. Afterwards they get dumped for SMN which has greater damage, greater mobility and is punished about 66% less for using a GCD to Raise. If you want to go further with RDM, consider it has less damage than BRD, but less rDPS contribution and significantly less non raise utility. BLM isn't preferred since they simply don't do enough damage to justify their lack of utility and mobility.

True as far as it goes, but considering this game’s general lack of consequence for dying, RDM’s ability to help salvage lag, first-time, and derp deaths in low difficulty content is not much of bright spot.

In any case, I don’t see any need to remove resurrection spells from either SMN or RDM or to give rez to BLM. BLM and RDM both need help in overall damage (and the gap is quite a bit wider than 1%), and BLM’s main problem would not be addressed adequately by making it into another rez dispenser.

Here's the issue with nerfing and buffing without addressing the rez issue. If RDM is buff to the level it's suppose to be in 4.2 and leave verraise as is everyone is going to use RDM for Delta Savage v2.0, why wouldn't you? It'll do more damage than summoner plus have the ability to save wipes over BLM that can't. BLM needs a major dps buff and should be on par with SAM since it lacks utility. RDM needs a damage buff, embolden buff, and ver-raise debuff. SMN needs s dps nerf, most likely DoTs reduced to 45 instead of 50.

Most raise utility is reliant on swiftcast which gives gives it a 60s cooldown, without it you have to stand in place for 7+ seconds which is hard with needing to dodge mechanics. Does Ver-raise have that penatly? From my understand all you need to do is proc Dualcast and you get an instant raise. Shouldn't it have some kind of instant cast cooldown penatly like everyone else?

But like I said early, I would just rather lose raise all together and give it to the support DPS; BRD and MCH.

RDM is only uniquely capable of raising when 4 or more people have died within the span of a minute; up till then, you have two instant raises from the healers, and one from a summoner which vastly outperforms RDM.

If you take Summoner, you have 3 people who have swift. Ideally, people communicate and all three of those swifts aren't burned on one person. If the ideal takes place, 4 people have to die in the space of one minute (before the first swift is off cd) in order for verraise to be uniquely useful.

It costs a boatload of damage for the Red Mage. Every vercure and raise that RDM casts costs 300 potency, 11 mana, and 25% of their MP pool. If abused, this leaves RDM absolutely crippled for damage; I don't know where this idea that RDM has unlimited mana comes from, but a lot of people seem to have it, and it's absolutely not true.

On the other hand, we have the current situation where RDM is clearly disadvantaged in any situation other than progression (and let's not forget that SMN still isn't a slouch in progression, if not on the multi-rez level of RDM).

Personally I'd rather have SMN and RDM have similar overall damage output so that the choice comes down more to personal preference and doesn't make RDM the clear loser once parties stop making so many mistakes.

Clearly this is the goal though utility needs to be taking in account in regards to dps. RDM has to be a little better than SMN in direct damage because SMN bring more indirect damage, and BLM has to be better than RDM because it carries no indirect damage modifiers.

It's also easy to see the entire dps spectrum is completely unbalanced and many jobs need adjustments. But if the entire raise issue isn't address in 4.2, the cycle is going to start all over again with RDM being the shining star for a month then kicked to the curb after everyone loses their training wheels. Worse yet, BLM/SMN are going to sit on the side lines for a month waiting until everyone learns the fight and don't need to relay on wipe savers so much. Shouldn't RDM have a stable career over it's life cycle rather than a yoyo rubber band that only falls into favor once new raids come out?

But you are right, if you buff RDM as is, it'll remain top dog long after it's Rez Mage title fades, but this threads isn't about buff RDM. It's about trying to make BLM relevant again and not being passed over simple because it can't cast raise.

Fine, I'll reply to this question by saying you can't make something more meta. It either is or it isn't. BRD/MCH have always had a spot on raid teams because it was designed to be. The ability to restore TP and MP gave them that slots since ARR. Giving them raise isn't just going make it more of their spot because they already own it. This key issue with BRD, MCH, and even SMN is their dps is too high for the utility or indirect damage they bring. You're a raider, why do you always bring a BRD/MCH? That's rhetorical and don't need an answer.

Anyway, I said my peace on the subject and since I don't raid I really don't care that much anyway. I'm going to continue play SMN in the good times like 4.1 and bad times 4.0. I could care less either way if I lose raise or don't.

So your answer is "They already have so much, what's the problem with giving them more?" Let me start by saying the meta isn't BRD/MCH, it's BRD&MCH.
There are several issues; I will concede that meta is a binary, it is or isn't. But a meta can be reinforced through dumb decisions putting unfair weight on a role. Two ranged physical locks out a ranged magical. Even as it is, the meta has no casters. It has two melee and two ranged physical. They have so many tools for recovery and support that giving them more would, in fact, reinforce the meta further.

You say it's rhetorical, but I'll answer it anyway since you may not fully realize the answer as is.
It's not BRD/MCH. It's BRD&MCH. And they're brought because in addition to their suite of party buffs and support, they are damage buffed further by having a dragoon, and even further by having a ninja. They all circle buff each other; the only downside to this meta is you don't have any support raises, in fact. Giving that to bard and machinist? Why don't you just delete the caster role right now?

I didn't read all the responses, but BLM does not need to "be a rez dispenser" it just needs access to the ability for the sake of balance (it is the only DoM in the entire game without it), and if creatively implemented, could fit very well into the lore of the job.

A 180s recast off-gcd would be more than suitable for the job. It can save a healer in a dungeon, and it can't be "dispensed". The recast would offset the infinite MP dilemma, and as I said with the right creativity with implementation, it very well can fit the lore. Consider a tether from the raised player that has weakness to the BLM increasing their damage for 20s and if the tether is broken the player just dies again. After it expires, everything is back to normal. Borderline necromancy rather than "white magic" or "arcane".

Personally I don't care about Lore reasons because you can retcon anything in a high-fantasy/science-fantasy setting like this.

As a BLM, I simply do not want a rez. Every other magic Job scrapes corpses off the floor, and it's nice not to share that identity and that onus.

Admittedly this is a matter of personal taste, but I don't see why BLM can't be made more desirable without further homogenizing the magic Jobs. You can add whatever conditions and flavor text you like, but allowing BLM to raise people in any capacity does exactly that to some degree.

There is a fine line between homogenizing and balance.

I would most certainly argue that one caster with rez dispenser every other GCD, one caster with the ability to hardcast/swiftcast it, and one with an off-GCD 180s cooldown is far from "homogenized".

The current lowest DPS job in the game outputs 89% of the DPS of the current highest DPS job in the game (at 95th percentile). This game is not nearly so demanding, and the DPS disparity not nearly so great, that the game requires the presence of certain jobs.

TBF I'd rather have SE kill combat ress from casters altogether

I guess I don't really agree. It's definitely useful for 4 man content and progression, and it's not like it is without penalty to the person who died (weakness changes), it just feels uneven. I personally think even PLD should get a raise ability (and a lay on hands, for that matter), and if they wanted to "balance" it then give DRK a living dead style raise and WAR some kind of earth chant raise. It feels really dumb to me to say "oh both healers dead and no rez dispenser? Ok just wipe it"

In short, I would much rather us have access to it and not need it than need it and not have access to it.

I'ts exactly because it's useful in progression that it should be done away from dps jobs

I Wish everyone would stop crying for nerfs on a job just because the job you prefer to play doesn't have the same skill kit, I've Been Playing FFXIV Since The ps3 launch and have never cried the way some people do. It was refreshing to here ultimate Bahamuts Worlds First Dark Knight say He Just Likes Playing The job... I Play The Jobs I Like to play because I like to play them and yes I main Red Mage now, I've cleared savage 1, 2 and 3 even tho I don't care for them right now but can't find the motivation for 4. I hear verraise and dualcast is broken, yet you want a caster with access to unlimited mana, swiftcast and triplecast to be able to raise. yeah that's balanced... This Is just my humble opinion not intended to insult anyone, so keep that in mind when that one person that we always have decides to check my lodestone.

Nerfs are not inherently invalid (Trick Attack is LONG overdue for one), but given the state of the situation (physical meta BRD+MCH) there should be absolutely no real suggestion of nerfing any caster in practically any way.

Also, as I addressed very clearly a few posts back, a balanced raise would be appropriate for BLM and its infinite mana and triplecasting, and that would be a raise cooldown functioning completely unlike any raise in the game currently.

Furthermore, it is BECAUSE we want to play the jobs that we like that we are calling for balance/changes. No one wants to be shut out from parties or reprimanded/scathed by their own group for playing the job they enjoy when "this other one is better." And perhaps more importantly the knowledge in the back of your head eating away at you that you should be playing a better job but you aren't. These are why the changes are so important to request.

Combat raise is a boon, oh there's an S rank you want to down, no combat raise? well looks like you get to reset the S rank, 24 man raid, alliance A tanks are down? Looks like you get to redo the entire thing over, assuming you can make it through content without dying.

The whole concept of raise is to do it in combat, otherwise in a dungeon of the likes you don't really need to raise after the fight is over, you can just pop up and take a shortcut. Same concept for open world raises, you can just release and go back to your home point and then teleport or run/fly back.

They are a boon till they become too much, there's a fine line between beign useful to beign something ppl want always and as things stands now raise has become too much strong in between the removal of the heaklth nerf and RDM providing them so openly.
The way raise is now is a distraction to real BLM problems btw, even a 3 min CD OGCD raise on BLM wouldn't make it more desireable in comparison to SMN or RDM since they can do it at least 3 times over in a minute.

Also the moment ppl starts to say that even other jobs like PLD should get one, yes that IS the moment were ppl should realize that we crossed the line, to which I say away with combat raise

It wouldn't make it MORE desirable by any stretch, but it would give the class the option. Having the option is important with the current setup.

If anything increase the weakness penalty to 30% and 60% main stat for weakness and brink, respectively. The HP penalty was removed because it was particularly punishing on the healers to try to keep someone with brink of death alive during things like double mega holy, which makes sense. Punish the one who died, not the healer.


And Raise would fit so perfectly into Paladin's lore it's amazing it doesn't have it already. Plus it would be a huge loss for PLD to NEED to use it (imagine the MP cost, the cast time, no swiftcast, etc), but the point is better to attempt a raise than wipe and restart.

Careful PLD is actually Knight in japanese it's also not really a true warrior devoted to life it's more a warrior that uses sacred arts, so it's not really conjury.

I'm afraid we cannot see eye to eye on this topic, to me giving that ress to a BLM woudln't change the fact that you'll run RDM or SMN during prog regardless, it's not something we need even if it creates the option we have different problem that makes BLM not optimal and we should aim to fix those first and foremost.

And honestly we should avoid asking for more combat raise period. As much as it is a useful tool for us, it's not good for the health of the game in the long run and we should have the guts to point out this kind of things even if they hurt us initially, do you think titan EX would've been so memorable to many high end oplayers if each time ppl died to a landslide they could've been safely ressed? No I don't think so and frankly if they allow for some of the safety that they brought over time in titan ultimate ppl will complain imho (though I don't believe they will)

Also balancing a job as a safety net is a dumb idea and always leads to the job getting tossed out at the earliest opportunity. Don't sympathize with that? It also means people who don't like the job are forced into it for the safety net. It's dumb on all ends.

I would like to see Ley Lines as being a group buff. On activation it gives a party wide casting speed boost that slowly reduces in effectiveness like RDM's Embolden. The action would still cast a glyph on the floor where the BLM can utilize as getting a casting speed buff for the longest duration and also to return to if they need to move due to dodging attacks.

It's just an idea at least and ranged DPS and casters would benefit most, and a clever BLM could put it down for melee as well I suppose but it'd be there more to compete with RDM/SMN utility, as we all know adding or removing rez fixes nothing.

All I can say to the title of the topic is: No, please don't give blm a raise. Raising lowers our dps, we don't want less dps, we want more.

A 180s recast raise wouldn't change anything at the current situation. Why take a blm who can raise every 3 minutes, when you can simple take a smn who can raise more often and deals more damage? Of course the blm raise you promote could have some other benefits, but I don't think that suits the playstyle of blm. We already have enough classes that are able to raise. Give us some magic debuff, decrease the cd of transpose or something like that.
