Naoki Yoshida's Comment in Regard to Jump Potions/Boost Potions

all this is gona do is make all content below storm blood irrelevant , but mmos have to make money so I get it , its just gona be a wasteland for players that acutally wana go through the story , esp if they want to do any type of harder content, they might as well take extreme primals and the old raids out the game because nobody is going to def do them then. But maybe if they didnt gate so much content they wouldnt need a jump potion but maybe thats just me

I don't really care either way. I run into bad players all the time. Alex normal is plagued with people who can't play their jobs correctly.

And I'm one of those people who leveled all their classes to 60 legitimately. WHO CARES IF PEOPLE BUY A SKIP POTION! Anyone who bought the game after 3.0 launched already benefited from similar effects, an extra 50% armory bonus up to lvl 50, more xp on story quests, base game was cheaper. cheaper gear. If you are one of those people and you are complaining, you have no right to complain about this, as they game was already made easier for you to begin with.

If I had a dollar for every "I quit" or "p2w" or "game is going f2p" post on these forums, I could retire.

How is it suddenly going to make it more mandatory than right now? Its not like they are planning to make the MSQ harder to do. They actually said they plan to tweek things to make it easier, at least with HW.

Considering the people who do actually level their characters, as well as want to take advantage of newbie bonuses for multitudes of reasons, I don't see earlier content dying like you're implying. Also consider: With cross world PFs, there's more people available to set things up together.

We all know the real reason they want to do this. More money. Don't make excuses like it's to help people's friends catch up. If that was true then why not make them a free reward from the friend recruitment system?

Instead of jump potions why not make more interesting ways to level up with low level players, like palace of the dead? And instead of making your expansions an continuous story that people just want to skip with story potions, why not make them stand alone stories like ffxi did with treasures of aht urgan, wings of the goddess and seekers of adoulin? Since they realised this kind of thing becomes a problem after chains of promathia and rise of the zilart.

I am against this because one of the things I like best about FF14 is that it does have an ongoing, interconnected and continuous world and story. Changing that would negatively effect my experience and enjoyment of the game more than any newly autolvled bad player.

Since we already have the "new adventurer" status this doesn't sound too bad. They could just adjust the criteria for the sprout icon so that we can identify jump users easily so that we can help them get adjusted to the game.

While I'm hesitant to embrace the idea of these potions, I think a lot of my initial fears are kneejerk reactions and not really anything that has a lot of basis behind it.

However, I do object to one thing, and that is flagging dungeons as "cleared". I would much rather see them flag as "unlocked" instead, and have roulettes change to let you enter the roulette without clearing every single dungeon as long as they're unlocked. That would let the new jumped players enter the roulettes, while still letting the clear bonus apply (as those players have not, in fact, cleared the dungeon!)

I'm okay with it. Doesn't affect me whatsoever. Might even use it on my alt.

Its a good idea and they've obviously thought long and hard about this. Even if they don't change anything from how its implemented in Korea and China it would still be good for NA and Europe. Offer both the story skip and the job jump potions and let people choose which one they want. And since the job jump potions don't take you straight to the level cap you're still going to be spending 10 levels learning how to play. For those that don't know getting from 50->60 takes more exp than going from 1->50 (almost 3x as much) so its a pretty significant amount of time to be learning the job.

I am against the jump potion. We do not run on the same payment model as the Korean and Chinese servers, where a jump potion would be useful in getting the most out of their paid play time.

Make story quests of the previous expansions optional, stop gating content behind story quests in future expansions and reduce the amount of experience required to reach the previous expansion's maximum level. Also, give up to date players a greater incentive to assist players new to the game, bonus tomestones and the mentor system just do not cut it.

If you must introduce the potion, don't make it a mogstation item, make it an item akin to a reverse veteran reward where it is given to an account once per expansion depending on the progress made and time played.

Can't wait for the jump potion. Glad they are adding it. All they need to do now is make it mandatory to do some kind of hall of novice/intermediate and everything will be fine.

The ARR jump potion will set all optional dungeons up to 2.55 to being cleared so they can do the roulettes? So the Heavensward one will do the same for all the dungeons up to level 60? This means a person who just jumped to level 60 in Stormblood will be able to queue in the level 60 roulette right away but someone who actually played through the entire MSQ can't unless they've done every optional level 60 dungeon. How does that make sense?

Can't you sell a potion to eliminate the fetch quests instead? Seems like that'd be WAY more profitable.

I strongly disagree with you as well. Many people don't care for the story... why gate the expansion behind stuff that is ultimately worthless? Sure, people love the lore but from a gameplay perspective it doesn't do much. Edit: I do like how you went to wild extremes in a later post of yours. Being against something is cool, but going off the deepend invalidates any valid points you may have had.

What I DO dislike though is job potions. Just... no.

Your point is....? Healer DPS is always nice but if it comes down to them tipping the balance then you need to have a chat with your main DPS as they're screwing up.

First of all, I'd like to express my admiration for the dev team's handling of this most sensitive of issues. You guys have clearly been deliberating on this for a long time, and I'm grateful that you've taken the concerns of the playerbase into mind.

That said, I think the implementation of jumping potions will do far more good than harm. My only desire is that a tutorial be presented to players who choose to use a level booster so that the fundamentals of the chosen role and job are explained to the fresh level 60 player.

The NA/EU player base is vastly different from the JP/CH/KR player base; that much is clear just based on how each player base handles different situation in duties. I just have a very uneasy feeling that a lot of people will purchase these out of laziness, and that they won't be used for alt characters or alt jobs. And I feel like the job ones do teeter on the edge of P2W. It gives you auto-level 60 (going off of what Yoshi-P said for the ones they would implement for post-Heavensward), with appropriate weapon and gear it seems, all of your skills, all quests marked as clear. How is that not P2W?

I don't know...just don't have a good feeling about this. That's my 2 gil.

Level jumping potions I absolutely refuse to accept. To the point of stoping being a mentor that I enjoyed so much. There would be no help or answers from me if I suspect a jumping potion user and I would initiate a kick if I just see them performing not to the top of the role standards.
Leveling is disgustingly easy as it is now and would be even worse. Dungeons difficulty is beyond easy as well. What was done to leveling dungeons pre 50 is just inexcusable and teaches people nothing. Also I'm afraid it would hurt queue times...

There are plenty of people already that don't care about the story and skip every cutscene. You may be here for the story but not everyone is. A jump potion will not change that.

That is funny. There are many players who already don't perform to the "top of the role standards". Do you initiate vote kicks in every DF group you join already? Someone like you probably doesn't meet those standards either.

...and yet the story is a huge and very important draw for many players - especially the core target audience. Are the developers going to let the quality of the story suffer moving forward if and when the 'norm' becomes people demanding a focus on the fabled 'end game' and new content has to be pumped out at a quicker, more lacklustre rate?

haha I was against a potion but the way players forget old content so fast I really dont see the issue anymore stuff becomes so irrelevant so fast , so with a new exp arr and hw will be wastelands for any content of substance

If you enjoy the story, then you have nothing to worry about. This is an MMO, which means it attracts players who play for different reasons. Some don't care about story, some do. Some play just for the crafting and gathering (who were forced to do the story in HW), some don't.

ARR is still somewhat relevant even now. I really doubt HW content will die as fast as you claim it will. ARR may kick the bucket, but HW will still be around.

If you add story-skipping potions into this mix, the new players that actually want to level through ARR and HW and SB the "old" way, and not invest in a skip potion, may be hard pressed to find individuals to actually play with. I know that roulettes fill duties for those that queue into them directly, but already DPS queues are pretty terrible. I just wonder if they'll get worse with these potions, since everyone is so quick to want to get to "endgame" so they can do Savage or EX Primals or what not. One thing in preserving the longevity of this game is trying to keep older content alive so those coming into the game can participate in it--something SE seems to be doing with WT by throwing in Coil and old tiers of Alex, and the old 24-mans.

Personally, I don't want to see ARR and HW areas become a wasteland. :/ But, maybe I'm in the minority there. The story-skip potions don't strike me as terrible as the job ones, though. That's just...I don't want to start ranting about them again.

Better a strawman than a 'this person used level boost/story skip potion' mark. Then again, the plus side for that mark on players is that they will never have to worry about your attitude.
