That's not really the same thing. Whether they use CDs or not, they will still be ignorant of their actual performance because the game doesn't show them as being bad. Enemies still die but at a painfully slow pace which to them would be considered normal or in some cases, "man that died fast!". Think in the terms of DDR. When you complete a song, it'll tell you how many notes you hit perfectly, how well you comboed, comparison to other players on the same difficulty setting, etc. Actual feedback. You'll still have people playing badly but they'll unable to be ignorant of that fact. This will at least lead some people to aim higher.

I can agree on that, though as with many good ideas, the implementation would be immensely difficult, mostly because many things are hard to measure. Swiftcast ressing a healer? Extremely valuable. Would probably count as a regular ress in the system, even though it made the difference between wipe and clear.
Moreover, there might be cases where one would rather push his/her score than help another player out. Off the top of my head I could imagine people purposely letting others die to sable price to get a combat ress bonus for themselves (Again, Summoner example).

Such a system would either have to be "very" obscure in what awards points so people give mechanics the benefit of doubt, or be incredibly complex to catch abuse cases.

You can kick bad players from raid or PF groups.
Suck it up in DF. You'll only ruin your own day by complaining and then having to listen to excuses.
Just go on and finish the run is what I do.

New expert dungeons should have a boss mechanic that seperates the party and each DD has to beat a DPS check on their own. Make the boss still beatable if they fail it, but don't reward them tomestones.

You know...some people think parsing in general would "solve" bad DPS, but now I think it wouldn't do a darn thing for this reason only; if a DPS can't be bothered to use proper rotations, what makes you think them seeing a low number is going to push them to learn? They clearly don't care about how much damage they're pumping out and they don't listen to others about improving their rotations, so an automated number displayer won't do jack.

because i sincerely believe many of them are unaware just how poorly they are performing. being ignorant, for some people, may be why they are so defensive. they may truly believe they are performing comparatively to an average and think the person scrutinizing (for lack of a better word) is some elitist who is expecting perfection., where in truth, they just dont appreciate doing 75% of the work.

SCH/WHM Standing like a statue waiting for heal the tank at 20% hp
DRG's dying in less than 10 seconds every single pull/boss fight.
DPS (this piss me off ) saving the LB until last boss or using the LB level 2-3 when the boss has 1% hp

this is one of my biggest pet peeves. so much lost potential damage using limit breaks for kill shots

Yesterday, my GF had unlocked the lvl 51 Dusk Vigil.

We entered it quickly as I Main Tank and she Mains Healer..

Got a BRD and BLM with us.

She's new, so I told them that I'll pull a bit less so she gets the hangs of the dungeon a bit.

They said no worries.

Things were smooth; 2 times the BLM said brb.. I'm alright with that, things happens in real life.

Then about 75% of the dungeon done, he says sorry if I'm not totally here, my wife is doing Alexander Savage and I'm watching her on switch o.O

I'm like, well, good for her, but you are supposed to be with us (the point of choosing to get into an instance)

he's like lol I know sorry.

So he was 50-60% of the time with us.

We ended up with a clear, took a big longer than the usual.

Do I care? Well yes. If you select to get into an instance, at least try to be with other people.

Because he wasn't totally with us, his DPS was.. lower that what I could expect.

Did I care about it? Nope, because I am playing for the fun and completion, even if it takes a bit longer than usual.

Numbers are numbers.

But being polite and being 'there' it's another matter, to me at least.

Ugh, had to use Kassatsu for Suiton myself a couple times when I was playing Nin. Packet loss swallowed Ten input (despite the animation showing), I went on with Chi & Jin only to realize I ended up having Hyoton. Well yeah...and then you're stuck between using that or trying to salvage a Huton.

And that's why I ended up switching to summoner.

You're not armor crushing anything if it's inbetween pulls where you have nothing to hit. Doton is collectively 240 potency if all the ticks hit, compared to a 180 katon. Getting full duration on Doton with a katon is better than x2 katon for AoEing.

And even then, this is stretching into the realm of "You aren't playing at maximum efficiency" versus "You are playing deliberately bad" because they're losing mudras. Not exactly something to get anal able compared to the other things you listed (a healer that only stands still, or dps not using LB), since they are using their mudras and huton (and maybe getting off trick attack with that suiton)

I'd like to see a parser introduced as part of the storyline, where the House Fortemps people get together and decide if you're doing enough dps. If not, you are banished from Ishgard and made to stay in the 2.0 areas

Your argument would only make sense if you couldn't use other Ninjutsu while Doton was up. In situations with 3 or more mobs, Doton IS a DPS increase over Katon IF it lasts its full duration. If mobs take more than 24 seconds to die, then Doton trumps Katon. Using your own example, Doton+Katon+Katon beats triple Katon.

Uhhh....Doton with Kassatsu actually adds up to be more damage than crit Raiton if multiple mobs are present, and more than a Katon. Do the simple potency math. Parse it too if you don't believe me.

Doton has 30 potency per tick, with 8 ticks per use. It adds up to be 240 potency per mob. Raiton is 360 potency, superior against 1 mob, arguably 2 with burst damage being a thing, but 3 is where Doton starts to become superior, especially with Kassatsu. Doton just blows Katon out in overall damage vs its 180 potency. The only time you'd want to use Katon over Doton is when you need burst AoE or when the tank isn't keeping mobs inside Doton. Even clipping the remaining one tick on Doton with another Doton is superior aoe damage to using Katon.

And as RiceisNice said, sometimes there's nothing left to hit with Armor Crush. I start using the Armor Crush combo exclusively when things are almost dead to ensure Huton stays up without needing to use the ninjitsu, but sometimes tanks are slow to pull the next group, so that leaves one option: Huton. If the pull is so slow that you can fit a Huton Ninjitsu in without clipping it with the next fight, it's actually better to do it so you don't have to Armor Crush sooner.

But yeah, if you're going to be condescending, at least know what you're talking about. You're calling people bad but are failing to understand how these skills work....it doesn't look good.

Losing ~10 seconds off a mudra versus ~10 seconds off your huton timer, which means an earlier armor crush at the cost of AE. And even then, you're at the mercy of the tanks for the next pull, if it doesn't long enough you'll just end up doing AC on pull or recasting huton anyway because the remaining duration isn't long enough.

Compare it to 2 katons and 1 doton then, it still beats out 3 katons. And if the mobs don't ever s tay in the AoE, thats more on the tanks because otherwise, flame arrow, shadowflare and bishop turret would also be garbage.

We're discussing how people who are deliberately playing bad shouldn't hide behind an excuse. The only shame right now is how you're coupling people who are apparently using kassatsu doton or refreshing their buff (inefficiently or not, but both amounts to what, a 2-5% dps loss in the long run if it's done inefficently?) are bads or even to the same degree as those being deliberately bad (since you're posting in the context of this topic)

No one said anything about using two dotons. Hell, you shouldn't even use two dotons in a row because it'd just overwrite each other.

Your posts are wrong in some aspects and you're still coming off as condensending toward people who don't play at maximum efficiency with regards to ninja. That's not what the thread is a bout or what the general census is on the discussion. Your posts reek of that "you play perfectly or you're wrong" context that people are against.

You clearly have no idea what I'm even saying and are just out to call people bad without even knowing what you're talking about yourself, so I'll just bow out now. Have a nice day. But for the record, you just echoed everything I said pretty much. There are situations where using Huton Ninjitsu is a must and where it's beneficial between pulls, I listed one of those situations.

But yeah, Doton > Katon if all ticks hit. Stop calling the skill useless and people bad who use it because it's making you look like a fool when it parses higher than what you're recommending people do.

Some aspects? You're being kind lol. Any NIN worth his/her salt knows how and when to use all of their Ninjutsu, LunaSnowfield is inflexible and is far from playing at "maximum efficiency".

this game is easy to comprehend even my nephew @ 4mnths old could play ff14 1.0 with a controler on the pc. (funny story with that). You guys act like playing games take skill (they don't) takes time to master a game, and play skillfully. but ice mages, thunder mages and what not are jusr copying WoWs first viral post aka leroy jenkins. That guy got famous for staging being an idiot, so much so his stunt is in other games. ppl want a slice of the pie. So don't be shocked that ppl will play like trolls.

Agreed. I play with damage numbers turned off purely because I wanted to reduce the clutter on screen all the time. Everything they could tell me, I can learn from all the other HUD elements there are. It certainly hasn't impeded my ability to preform to the best of my ability in runs, but most people wouldn't even think about turning it off because they "need" to see specific numbers on what they're doing in order to have any idea of how well they're playing......

I don't use LBs as a melee if there is a caster in the group because I hope they know to LB big trash pulls... sadly no one ever does this. If not I try to use it asap on bosses because you can build a lot of limit on them rather quickly.

I can pull numbers out of my ass too, but it doesn't mean I'm right. By the way, due to its accessibility on PS3 and PS4, this IS many a player's first MMO. FF14 1.0 and ARR are completely different beasts battle-system wise, so I'm not sure were you're drawing the comparison.

Playing skillfully may or may not require some effort, but mastering a job is something else entirely. Can you honestly say that you can play a job so good that you see absolutely no further room for improvement?

You might be surprised just how garbage the caster lb1 is. It barely puts a dent in trash mobs. Boss adds? Sure.. Dungeon trash? Waste.

Actually, on 2 targets caster LB possess more potency than a melee LB. There's a reason why RocheKat specificaly mentioned "big trash pulls"

Talking about bad playstyles, I once had a Paladin who wanted to 'role play' as a swordsman. No shield equipped at all. I decided to role-play as someone who couldn't give a damn about that particular party, and left.

1) 99% being trolls isn't a made up number, i have played over 30 mmo in over 10 years before and after WoW. Pre WoW aka pre-leyroy. Players of all degrees of skills play games but worked together outside the occassional troll. FF11 was my first mmo, and i didn't do the "but its my playstyle" and ff11 was for the most part open ended, community made up styles some i was against (backline red mages) but i did the best i could. After WoW aka after leroy, trolls became the norm, and if you actually go on youtube tons of people record themselves trolling trying to become "leeroy" famous. some include ff14, WoW, call of duty. many are these ice mages etc. It doesn't take much but look on these forums, you can see people make similar complaints ina domino effect. 1 person made mention of ice mages on rp servers, now everyone is is claiming to see them.

2) I was gonna edit my post about that funny story, but my net cut out. My newphew was 4 mnths old when ff14 1.0 launched, i played it on a laptop with my 360 controler in our kitchen, my sister needed me to hold him so i put the controler down and held him, he picked it up held the controler correctly and made my character run around and putting her in the attack stance. Tyhing is though ff14 1.0 launch HUD was NOT controler friendly, and people complained about it on the forums when they were added. Yet here is a 4 mnth old baby playing on it w/o issue.

3) what i was trying to say is, video games are not hard to play. Anyone (even a baby) can play a video game, playing a video game requires 0 skill. MASTERING a video game takes skill, and to play skillfuly takes skill (duh) people act like a video game takes skill when it doesn't, playing skillfully takes skill. Combinations, and skills are easy to figure out infact you just press a button your character does it. The game pretty much tells you what to press as well. So only 2 types of people will not play well:

group 1) Trolls
group 2) first time gamers. (as in a person who never played a video game ever and completely irgnorant of them but got gorded into ff14)

But if you look close enough 9 times out of 10 its a troll.

The way most people in this thread, too many to name, have put this expectation on players, especially not realizing their background not even considering one's skill or way someone else enjoys the game I find to be a very toxic thing in-general in MMOs.

Why are players expected to reach a certain DPS level when you are getting through the dungeon fine?
Why are players expected to be in such unison with each other that any mistake they make is not doing a certain amount for the team thus being a bad player?
Why get annoyed at someone who is not on your standard of what one "should" be doing when they are getting by just fine?
Why not ever think that maybe this person has trouble understanding the game, or maybe hasn't had the life experiences you might have to get this part in a game where they can reach this level of DPS comfortable?
Why not realize that some people make mistakes and that's okay?
Why not simply leave if these aren't the people you wish to play with?

This selfishness hurts other's enjoyment. A player not being adequate in skill is not selfishness, everyone starts somewhere and not everyone realizes or studies or even find these things. Not everyone thinks to go search up what is the current meta DPS layout, or optimal way to play a specific dungeon by watching a youtube video. Most people simply play the game and they learn, thus they don't always have the thousands of hours of study the game researcher and endgame players put together that you learned by reading what someone else found out, or what someone else made a video of. Imagine if you never did those things, or didn't have friends and simply picked up the game on a whim and simply played it cause it was Final Fantasy and thought it was cool? You would clearly not have what you might think is common sense of the game when in actuality it isn't for most people.

When people start being pressured and told they aren't optimal in such a negative way all it's going to lead to is fights. People do pay for this game, people do not pay to be scolded by random people. We should instruct people to be better, but not expect them to be this certain threshold, this expectation. It's not fun for them, and it's not in all honesty, it's not fun for you either getting bothered by someone's skill level. Help someone out if you think you can, and if they aren't to your liking, simply don't play with them. Don't force your will on others. Not everyone has lived the life you have, or has gotten to the place you have in this game yet.

Might be of beneficial merit to note that not everyone devotes their lives to an MMO. Some people have real lives, they have work, they have kids. They have *GASP*... dunn dunn dunnnnnn.... other hobbies.

Some people just play just to have fun. They're not all into being the best of the best of the whatever. Which even if you are into that.. it's really kind of an enormous waste anyway. Because unless you're going 'pro' sometime soon.. you're really just jerking off while being an asshole about it.

"I have a real life" shouldnt hinder you from being able to read and apply basic knowledge given to you in-game, or ask for advice if you're struggling on a matter. If such things are a problem to people in a social game, then they should stick to single player stuff where what's considered fun to them doesn't cause detriment to others.

The "I have a life" argument is weak at best. Having a life no in way prevents you from trying to play at your best when you do find time to play. Having a life no in way prevents you from being a team player. Having a life does not prevent you from being willing to take advice. Having a life does not mean you can have a selfish attitude.

You can get through the dungeon fine with one person AFK. When everyone is afk - you don't get through the dungeon. You can get through the dungeon fine when one person is not paying attention. When nobody is paying attention - good luck with it.
Our current system simply isn't fair for those who consider other players' feelings and try their best, while there are lazy players in shadows not paying attention and forcing others to do their part, without even being accountable for it.

Mistakes are made all the time. I don't think that anybody would start riots if ninja failed few mudras or something. The issue is when you have a player who can do better, but they simply refuse.

We can help these players if we have the tools. If a monk isn't doing positionals - we explain how the job works. If somebody isn't doing enough DPS, we can tell them rotations and useful tips to get better - but first we need the tools and be allowed to talk about them. Otherwise it is really hard to help.

Mistakes are okay. Mistakes can be fixed - if the player is willing to fix them tho. There are too many warriors of I don't care, who don't care about their contribution. They just want their rewards for their "participation".

I don't think that many players want to kick others so leaving is pretty much the only solution - if the situation is too much. Here is the issue that sometimes you would like to play with all but one person who isn't contributing to the team efforts. It would be great if we could tell which dps is not doing well enough so that these players could be advised. From there it is quite simple to tell who is watching Netflix and who is willing to listen to your advise without getting offended.
