Slightly off-topic, but the last part of this statement really bugs me. I hate it when an MMO goes for a beast-type race, but the females are crazily sexualized and hardly beastly at all. If they're going to go beastly, do it like the Charr or don't do it at all.Quote:

The Character in the Pic seems to lean towards Viera, mixed with "something" else, to give it an unique feel. Or it is something totally new, like they wanted to try out.
Under the Cap it probably is not a horn, since horns and cloth would not actually "work" together.. they would rip a hole into the cloth and it does not really look "horn'ish" in the Picture. More like ears going "backwards". You can see on the left side a little "bulge" and due the angle there are actually "ears" on both sides. so it is not only one side, like some people suggested.
What puzzles me is the fact that you neither see the hands or the lower half of the Characters, which "could" mean that it would be obvious what kind of Race/Tribe it is. -

I'd think its a bunny character.. and the hood is just weighing the ears down. Or maybe they designed it that way so they don't look like Miqo with the ears poking up.. but just a bigger version. I can't stand any hood on my Miqo.

Hell I started to make a highlander female in the beginning until I saw her GI Joe kung fu grip. No extra amount of boobs and buns was gonna entice me into making a char that can easily be mistaken for a guy from behind if my hair is short. If I wanted a buff character, I would have just made a male in the first place and I think alot of people feel that way. However, props to those who like it. No, it is lazyness. The process would be pretty simple. And we should complain quite loudly that they implemented a race with a unique feature (tails and fox-cat ears) and then failed miserably to give their armor models a tiny modification in the rear. They did it with the helmets and cowls, so why not on the backs? -

the trouble with beast-reptilian race,(same with dragon race) on paper it look great.... but do player will play it? or it will be one of the less played because too hard to identify yourself to that race.
and i think it why they go for an hybrid with hyur morphology... for get more people play it. and since viera like race are asked a lot... maybe they will add it for reduce the number of miqo'te. -

I pretty strongly believe this is a viera, but they edited the design away from the ffxii and tactics versions to make it more closely relate-able to the current races of ffxiv. I imagine they will be shorter (both in height and ear length) and their ears possibly wider apart, as well as not exactly on the top of their heads. If they are more similarly placed to where miqo'te ears are, then perhaps what we are seeing in this image is simply their ears in the down position, rather than the up-right position, due to the hood's weight. I find it kind of amusing that some people seem to think that viera ears are constantly erect and are incapable of folding back? Bunny ears can swivel around just like dog or cat ears do. =)

The only chance this is a Viera is if they remake the race or call it something else (like changing Galka to Roegadyn and removing their tails). Viera have coiled cartilage at the base of their ears. There have been zero Viera in any game that had bent ears in any way and they only grow straight up. It's a new XIV-Viera or it's something with horns. The tip is pointed, too, so that suggests horns. Looks like a nannygoat horn, somehow. The second top poll choice was "mixed-race" as well, so maybe it's a half-miqo'te/half-elezen with extra long ears. It could even be a unique NPC with one-of-a-kind body parts like Minifilia's boobs, too.

I can't help but feel people are getting too excited over this stuff.
The expansion is a long ways away still. I could of sworn Yoshi-P in an interview somewhere said it'd at least be another year or more before an expansion dropped. Also who is to say this NPC has anything to do with the future expansion or even a new race? She could be from a new race but doesn't mean it will be a playable race. The mention of this NPC's homeland, there's still plenty of lands out there mentioned we don't have access to. It doesn't mean we will see Doma as a new area and this race (Viera or not.) as a new playable race.
I'm not attempting to dash anyone's hopes here, but from the posts I've seen people are automatically assuming just because a new unidentified NPC hailing from a never-heard-of-until-now land has shown up it must mean they're a teaser for the next race and/or expansion.
EDIT: And since we're on the topic of hats for Miqo'te, let's talk about the Chocobo Mask. If you want to talk about crushed ears you COMPLETELY lose your ears in that thing! Seriously, it's a skullcap with a mask and feathers attached but there's no earholes or even pointy bits under the cap for your ears. They're literally crushed beneath the cap part. From a side or front angle you can imagine maybe your ears are hidden under the feathers but look from a rear or side-rear view and you'll see the truth. -
