This made my day. XD
One day in Eureka.....
It started with talks about food....
then it turned into talks about how too cook a lalafell.
dear red mages in dungeons, you have a wonderful aoe skill called Moulinet. When you build up enough mana it turns into Enchanted Moulinet. It's beautiful, it's flashy, it's strong and with Embolden mows down pack of mobs. Oh and makes you earn comms! Moulinet is your friend, don't be allergic to it
Should have definitely kicked him. Would have been a great teaching moment.
The last time I had a tank that was truly awful, I kicked him before final boss, wrote a post in here about it and he made a nice long woe is me I was wrongfully kicked post in GD that ended up 20+ pages deep that they read worth of knowledge and criticism.
I like to think they're a better player now because of me.
I'm also wondering where the other tank was.
How did this guy get to be seen as MT if he was in Sword Oath? When I tank and I see that I just switch to my tank stance and take over...
Actually did that yesterday on my MiQote tank with DRK - hadn't played it in 6 months. After an hour to two of target dummies and 2 runs of palace of the dead to try and remember my skill bar, I queued for random trial thinking "my DRK is only level 64, I'll probably get an easy one and just be able to practice".
We get bowl of embers hard, which is actually easy... :)
3 seconds into the fight the guy I thought was the MT is dead - he's managed to leap off the edge of the platform so he isn't coming back. I swap in grit and just handle the rest of the fight smoothly... I had only a vague idea of what my buttons were... but hey, grit is grit and position is position and I knew that my damage mitigation skills in all MMOs are set to the same keybinds, so I just kept spamming them and cycling the enmity skills I have bound to my 1 to 3 keys...
Which is to say... even if you have no clue what the heck you're doing... if you're there as a tank, and the other tank fails... the one thing you can do right away is grab aggro and at least pretend to have a clue... :)
- That will NOT save you in Susano... but it will at least instantly flip who is the 'MT'...
So I guess I'm trying to say... your problem wasn't the MT. Your problem was both tanks. The MT was worse... but no tank is an OT unless the MT is actually doing their job... Otherwise the other tank should just 'rise to the occasion'...
EDIT: Hmmm... My browser said I was looking at posts from today, but I quoted one from 11 days ago... odd.
Okay need to vent about a WHM...
Let me give some background- my main is BLM but my 2nd class which honestly I could switch with ease for my main is WHM. I don't have time to do hard core raiding due to my schedule & same for my friend. Now my buddy and I are running a 70 dungeon. Now typically when he runs as his WAR- I will run as my WHM but this time he says I can run my BLM. So it's him on WAR, a WHM, BRD, and me. The BRD is new but had good dps. So we are going through & I constantly see this WHM spamming dps spells but is not really healing- like my buddy almost died many times & during the second boss- both myself & the BRD died from the stuff that you can't avoid. So I look at this guy's gear- thinking this has to be a secondary job for this guy but his gear is mainly 360, augmented accessories to 370- 2 diamond pieces from sigma savage & only 1 piece that was 350. Fully melded. Am I wrong to think he was just be a total ass not healing us?
The tanks that constantly reposition bosses ALL the time, inevitable screwing up my Trick Attack(s) at the LAST possible second.
All of my rage.
I have no words... This is literally one of the dumbest...
Anyway I did Trials today and got Susan NM. I was PLD. I have never tanked this before and haven't fought him since I returned 2 weeks ago. Half of the rest of the party either was new to it or hadn't run it in a while. We wiped after the first sword because team forgot to do the balls and kill the sword while I held it.
We got through it a second time and 3 times my team wiped to just me, the WAR and one of the Healers. I thought it would be a wipe, and stated as such. But two times the surviving WHM was able to rez the other healer and the RDM and we were able to bring it back, the third time they used the Lv. 3 Healer LB. Needless to say we were able to get through it and my team was amazing, no one got upset or angry.
This community happily surprises me at times.
He may have been tunnel vision-ing. It can happen at times, especially when you are overgeared for content, and as a Healer you can DPS more than Heal. He obviously should have healed and I wasn't there so I'm not sure how he was acting, but I know that I have neglected healing sometimes when I am running content and just spamming base DPS spell because I'm not paying attention. Not an excuse and again he should have healed but I was just saying it is a possibility.
However there are healers who will put DPS > Healing in many situation. Which is obviously bad.
Reading these as a newish tank trying to get WAR to 70, I never realized how many tanks just try to wing dungeons in DPS mode. When I go DPS trash dies so fast (humble brag), and there are lots of moments I rip hate, even on bosses but things die so quick I rarely notice. Some tanks will put on tank stance on the boss, but that's in the later ones. I'm no pro, just DPSing on the same two jobs for years you learn to optimize without really thinking about it.
Yeah, there's a time and place it use DPS stance, like if a boss is already near death and you want that little oomph, but I'd prefer my healers to DPS more as long as they keep me topped or close to. Had a healer compliment me in Sohm Al the other day, for this reason.
So I do alliance roulette.
It's World of Darkness
Say hello etc.
This green leaf bard says in party chat "I wonder if I can get away with only auto attacking this run.
I roll my eyes and assume its a joke.
But no. This guy literally only auto attacks the adds, and the first boss. Here I am dpsing to my best, healing and rezing half the team when they all die from Doom.
I was so annoyed. So I go to vote kick out of frustration.
It does not pass.
I am fuming. TILTED. I almost say something but I just go on and help with the next set of adds.
The bard keeps just auto attacking...
and I am like. Is no one paying attention???
So we get to hydra, I go in, but then in protest I sit outside the room.
No one says a thing. We go on to Atomos and I decide to just auto attack.
We do it. No one says anything or does anything.
Cerberus I wanted to do the same thing, but I watched the Mt drop really low, and decide to Bene him just in time. Hit them with a regen and just kept auto attacking.
We get to Cloud and wipe one time. I literally only help get the meteors and pop a regen on the other healer and the MT.
In my head I am ranting. I'm not working hard when this dude is literally doing nothing. Why should I?
We wipe cause not enough people in meteors. Well at least I did that right.
We do it again and I afk to start typing this rant. Do meteors, a few regens... Boom we do it.
I bolt to the exit cause I am done. I can't believe the bard got away with it, and no one said a dang thing to either of us.
I still got a comm.
-foams at mouth-
TAKE IT BACK I DON'T WANT YOUR DIRTY COMM I DID NOT DESERVE IT.
I feel dirty and I hate myself and that bard.
Please don't let people do that. Kick them. That is not ok.
It really stunts my morale. Give 200% and then watch others give less that 1%.
I was being petty and I don't care. Everyone gonna just let that happen. No. I'm not working hard to carry someone like that. >:/
Yesterday, I actually had to kick someone in PotD. Started fine. Early on, the Arcanist in our party asked to PLD to go Sword Oath (he was in Shield Oath). Our PLD ended up d/c-ing. The rest of us continue and unlocked the next floor. PLD reconnects and takes a bit to finally get back and get to the warp.
Arcanist: "Can you hurry up I'm getting tilted."
Me: "It's potd chill."
Arcanist: "Exactly, I don't wanna spend 30 mins in here."
I rolled my eyes here pretty hard. Someone else had also responded with "chill" because...for real...
Arcanist: "Alright, I'm tilted."
And then proceeded to pull the entire room and kill himself. Proceeded to vote kick him. Hope he enjoyed those wasted 10 mins having to restart back at floor 51.
I think you gave them what they wanted. No one does that if they want to finish the run. I have seen plenty of people sabotage PotD runs when they didn't want to finish with that group.
I had a 91-100 group that was all dps, two of the DPS were together and they tried to get us killed just so they could requeue with a new party.
Edit: Well, correction, they tried to, failed and then we rezzed them and they did actually get us killed.
As a tank in MMOs since 2005 who's presently leveling Ninja I kinda see this from both sides of things.
Standing in one place as a tank is seriously boring. I consider it bad fight design when they make that a requirement. It takes me an effort of will sometimes to not move...
Frankly on my Ninja I feel the same way... I move and swerve a lot - and often swatch enemies just to give me an excuse to have to reposition. Having played a lot of Overwatch of late - over there you have to be able to stick to a moving target's back that is trying to get you off it's back... BUT most people don't play FPS games so they're not used to thinking like that.
But I get that it can complicate things...
As a tank I do try to use my movement as a way to help line up DPS more... and I also get it from seeing co-tanks or the tanks when I DPS that don't know how to do this...
There's a massive difference between 'move things to help the group' and not... Just as bad as the tank that moves needlessly is the tank that stands in one spot forcing the DPS to be unable to get behind a boss safely...
To be fair to these tanks... go into the tanking forums and post up that "ya'll need to just learn to tank and stay in tank stance" and watch the flame throwers roasting you...
- They'll do it because if they followed that advice, most of them would lose their raid spots.
This game is weird...
As I've seen it noted recently, tanks here are just glorified DPS. We're more like the "Brute" class of City of Villains - tank mitigation in this game sucks compared to most MMOs. Enemies don't hit that hard... this is done on purpose... The tank busters are few and far between, and the mitigation skills do minor things like reduce 20% for 5 seconds every 2 minutes...
Raid groups expect the tank to do between 80-110% of the DPS that the DPS does... and the healers are expected to be about 60-80%...
Other MMOs have mobs that one-shot anyone but the tank if they get in so much as a single hit, and those are the 'white damage' moves, not the tank buster moves. Tanks stay in tank mode all the time, DPS stay in DPS mode, and healers stay in heal mode - or you wipe.
But here, everyone is basically a DPS most of the time... and if you're not pulling your DPS weight, you get cut. Some groups give healers slack on this, but a lot of them won't.
I actually did PoTD recently twice, in grit stance on DRK purposefully. :)
I haven't played my tanks here in 6 months, so it seemed like the best place to be a bad tank was PoTD... So I went in there and acted like I was tanking it. Very handy for trying to find where the actions where and what would proc what. And given PotD, it probably only slowed things down by a matter of seconds...
Well the run went fine but...
I healed sirensong via roulette for a cluster. Tank had a 255 NQ weapon, one of the newer pink items from diadem for a hat, I think 230 boots, but body, glove, belt and legs were all ilvl 200. Think they even had a gubal normal ring or somemthing aorund that range. Really wish people weren't allowed to go into leveling dungeons in this manner. They were squishy and were lucky I was the one healing.
#RequirementsForLevelingDungeons
It's sort of hard to ask stuff of people nowadays or even give pointers without coming off as an ass,
I were in a dungeon, tank is mass pulling because she can and we have Aoe, I notice the Dps spamming single target stuff on maybe 10 mobs, so... I'm like
guys could you use Aoe (so stuff dies faster less healing for me), "the games more fun without some 1 in your ear telling you what to do all the time" I just said okay and stopped.
I did Skalla with 2 friends and a random tank, we got to the 2nd boss and I started a countdown, it ends my friends run in tank walks out, so so do we.
"You can tank if you want"
Me: "Oh please don't start that with me, you didn't say anything about going afk", what I wanted to actually say is "I won't pay your sub anymore"
Admittedly I believe I can be condensing, only I have no ill intent I just tend to pay a lot more attention to detail when I'm healing than if I'm tanking or dpsing
had one of the best Ravana nm runs to date. tank rushed in, neither healer had protect it seems (they never cast it during the whole run), and I had lag--seconds when nobody is moving kind--so I thought 'oh no this gonna end badly'. but it didn't it was pretty smooth, would to comm everyone if I could.
Not a bad story, but it's fun when you recognize people from the forums in game.
Last couple times I've been in Eureka I've happened to notice Cassandra Solidor and Hyomin park were in the same instance.
If someone fails to do proper combos despite the obvious highlighting the game does, to the point of not even trying, and having your random rotation called nonsense and still not changing anything regarding that, they are beyond teaching. As the healer questioned, how can someone reach lv70 (in fact, they had multiple jobs leveled) by playing like that? They did not even use RoH a single time, Shield Oath was the only think they changed and it frankly didn't do much.
I can't speak for Sove's experience, but in mine we gave quick tips, we gave long tips, we gave all kinds of polite tips. Nothing changed. The tank fought us the entire time on why they were right and why we were wrong. For context, this tank did literally nothing but spam Shield Lob and oGCDs the entire dungeon.
In the end - I made the right decision to remove them. I can't say for sure if the same situation applied to Sove. I'm all for helping people, but some people don't want to be helped. No matter how many cat girl memes, or smiley faces you use in your sentence, they'll call you toxic, regardless of its validity.
If you're "in the know" this behavior is actually extremely common. I'm not surprised that people defended him and prevented the kick. I am actually surprised they didn't kick you for pointing it out.
Where did you get this idea from? No raid group I've ever been in expects this.
Bingo.
I just try to give people the benefit of the doubt I suppose. Never hurts to toss a tip or two. If they still suck arse, well, chalk it up to a bad player and do what you can to finish the dungeon.
My opinion of course, but I don't think mocking someone incessantly is the way to go if you want them to attempt to do better. How often do we run across players boasting in this thread about how they turned sullen and refused to do their job after a party member acted a certain way or said something to them? Not saying you have to always be in teacher mode or excuse every action, but going on the offense from the start is a good way to make them not want to cooperate.
Saw this after I posed, and for sure - some people are just turds it seems. I've personally never had anyone fire back at me for tossing out a few tips, but I know it happens. So I guess all we can do is try (if you feel like it), and then proceed as need be after the attempt, whether that be just sucking it up and completing the run, booting the issue, or leaving yourself.
RDM has the lowest personal dps of DPS jobs - 100th best parse is 6.1k.
WAR has the best personal dps of any Tank - 100th best parse is 4.8k.
SCH has the best personal dps of any Healer - 100th best parse is 2.9k.
Each of those is from God Kefka player damage rankings (used 100th slot to filter out the super cheesed parses) and using the dps class with the least dps and the support roles with the highest I am giving you the best possible chance at being proven right and you're still coming up short. WAR does manage to scrape by into about 80% of a RDM's damage but SCH doesn't even get to 50% much less 60%.
With literally any other dps or tank/healer the difference becomes even more pronounced. BLM is 6.8k, DRK is 4.4k and AST is 2.2k. AST is literally less than 1/3 of a BLM's dps.
Your hyperbolic examples undermine the rest of your post because they don't have any facts behind them.
There's such a little chance that anyone involved will see this, but here I go:
I was in Stone Vigil literally just now (which I got 'in-progress' as DPS, to begin with) and we were just about to reach the last boss when my internet connection went out. Completely. My internet provider is a scam and I need to change internet provider and I know it. I'm so sorry for having disappeared like that. But what I want to say to you is... thank you. Thank you for not kicking me and just completing the last boss without me. Thank you for letting me come back to the game, angry and sad I lost my time and your time, just to discover that I got credit for the roulette/dungeon and that you hadn't kicked me.
Thank you, honestly.
Dear Tanks,
I see from some of your colorful language ("f*cking aggro RDM sh*t", "you wanna tank it?" and my personal favorite "if you think I'm doing a BB combo you're dumber than a lalafell at a potato chip factory") that you would like me to use Diversion.
A fun fact - Diversion is actually in my opener! You know, the thing that takes 10 seconds at the start of a fight to set up? If you give me a heads up to when you're pulling (Party -> Countdown -> set to a multiple of 5 greater than 5) you can bet that I will pop Diversion and it will last for the first 24 seconds of the fight, reducing my enmity generated by a whopping 90 percent!
Not only that but I will be so happy you chose to give a countdown I will use Diversion several more times throughout the fight and even mix in some Lucid Dreaming!
If, however, you choose not to give a countdown I will be a sad RDM. In my despair my eyes well up with tears and I can no longer see the Diversion or Lucid Dreaming buttons! How sad for us both ;-;
In conclusion do us all a favor and click that countdown message. 15 seconds if you don't mind! That way I don't have to be sad and then die to Doom Strike and you don't have to look like a bumbling idiot for letting that happen.
Thanks for your time! Nerf SCH!

There's a difference between trying to execute an effective opener and not doing your job because of a small mishap that happened. I understand that a countdown and such can really help DPS out with coordinating their own openers, especially casters, but not wanting to use enmity dumps in the run just because MT didn't initiate with a countdown just comes off as petty.
This is also assuming this is the whole story, which I doubt it is.
