I don't know if you got the memo but, XIV's open world is kind of just, there.

I just want them to let us use BLU with Squadron Command Missions. And Palace of the Dead (once its level cap is raised to 60).
If only BLU was unlimited then it would be able to do all of that.
Lets bump it up.
Looking back at BLU now, I realized two things:
-Monster Carnival should've been re-labeled as monster arena where you don't need any specific job to participate. You can just pick/rent a monster to fight other monsters.
-BLU's so-called "OP" abilities are maybe just that up to lvl 30. Past that and there's nothing OP about it.
I can't say whether or not BLU would've worked out fine as regular job but the carnival, imo, didn't need to be attached to it and could've just been another extended side activity that is open to all jobs.
I said from the start that it being a monster arena that everyone could do would have been better than it only being available to one job. They could even use logos actions in them for added fun and puzzles.
Except all that BLU managed to do is bring back, and for a very short timespan, the ARR endgame era which was already invalidated in Heavenswsrd. The open world wasn't revamped for it's sake and you can pretty much recreate the experience of leveling in the wild with all non-limited jobs. The only thing new with BLU was the carnivale which in of itself is just Eureka's shallow elemental system mixed in with guildhests.
You claim a real MMO includes exploring the world which is something FFXIV doesn't do well even with Eureka, this is a streamlined game and BLU's design itself contradicts with the game by the fact that it's designed for an immersive world when this offers nothing but pretty, debatable, dioramas. We're playing a heavily instanced game in which the overworld is overlooked, so much so that instead of using their time in Diadem and Eureka to improve the overworld they keep on relegating that stuff into instances.
BLU in of itself is very much like Eureka in that outside of benefiting from the logos system it very much suffers from having a design philosophy that the game doesn't support in the end.
Need to somehow justify a job that's endgame is solely running old endgame content that is already invalidated by unsyncing existing non-limited jobs. Could have made it an alternate to using logos once Eureka inevitably does come 5.0.
Masked carnival also could have been a wonderful failsafe for BLUs who can't get parties together to learn skills. If they put all skills that can only be learned from dungeons/trials in the carnival, then lock BLU being in the DF behind beating the carnival or something like that. Having the carnival being accessable on all jobs with logo actions would be cool too, but they would still need to add a way of making it relevant if you dont want seals, and make some actually challenging content in there
Bumping this to continue the discussion about Sightseeing Log Mage.
So like, I want BLU unlocked more than anyone, but I genuinely think over the course of this thread, the discussion has been had. Theres a large following for BLU to get unlocked, and we've debunked basically all the counter points other than some people find limited BLU fun (which could be still had if they went for a Duty Set approach but still), honestly don't think theres much left to talk about. But trust me, when level 60 BLU is just more of the same, I'll be straight back here with smug grin. Unless its not and its somehow amazing and completely justifies limited jobs, and which point, I'll be damn impressed.
I think people bump the thread so SE will see it has activity and maybe do something about BLU, but now that BLU is in the game I think it's a lost cause. The only thing you could really do is affect future limited jobs. Hopefully by making it so there are no more limited jobs.
Somethings are worth fighting for. The only other way to show SE we don't support the content is to literally let the content die, but then SE will simply just not update it (Diadem, LoV) or we just unsub and speak with our wallets, which will speak louder than any "charts" will say.
This is the most important issue going into ShB and further, because Limited jobs as we have seen so far and recent SE handling is more work than necessary for sub-optimal barely alive content.
If people go apathetic, everyone loses. We should hold SE more accountable to poor gameplay decisions instead of focusing on graphics and aesthetics.
Considering how Male Viera thread has still been by far one of the most active threads here in the recent times, with both a larger view and post count that's still growing, I'm pretty sure BLU has as much right to stay on the front page.
Been using BLU a lot recently.
Since I've been doing Zodiac books, so I need to spawn specific FATEs.
So the best way is to run around the zone as BLU farming NM FATEs to give room for more spawns...
Such riveting gameplay:
FATE JOINED
Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom *MISS* Doom
FATE COMPLETE
The only exception is Western La Noscea where nearly all the NM FATEs are immune to insta-kill spells (Though many of them like Barometz Soup, (I Just Died) In Six Arms Tonight, Tender Buttons and whatever that goblin one is called, can be done with 1000 Needles > Swiftcast > 1000 Needles)
At least it's a reason to pull out that blue cape... Unlike, you know... Anything else in the game that could be doable instead >.>
I was just thinking and I wasn't going to start a new thread about it, so I'll just post it here instead. Was thinking how much of a missed opportunity not having BLU as one of the main Expac jobs is. For SB we had Hein repping SAM and Alisaie repping RDM.
Going into ShB we could have had Alphinaud's new time to shine with him switching into BLU on the first to mirror Alisaie's RDM (and honestly the Cane style would suit him really well), plus the Hrothgar being called the Ronso on the first could of been the explanation as to how he learned the technique, as Ronso are basically a race of BLU's in FFX. Well I suppose they could still do this, but It would just rile up more salt.
I unlocked it and never looked back, because I didn't see the point in leveling a job that can be used in exactly 0 content.
So I support this thread. BLU was a waste of developer resources as a 'limited' job and we don't really need more 'limited' content.
Don't think they would have all the spells they would need in dungeons? Dungeons don't seem to care whether we completed our job quests to queue, so...
Yea whatever. Thread supported and bumped.
Lets revisit this predicition from the start of this thread.Quote:

I guess we're existing in 5 right now, even though we haven't been thrown new content at all. Question is if this was so plain to see for a forum user before the thing was even out, how could this experiment have been conceived as a good idea.

My emotional state after reading the letter and the only mention of BLU was it not counting as a Job.
I did a thing
Y'all should check it out and give it likes :3
Hopefully, with the recent letter from the producer, BLU fixes can get some light.
What stings about the whole BLU thing is that I doubt we'll be seeing changes to it any time soon. From what I've heard, Yoshida and the rest of the dev team are in "well they haven't seen the full extent of BLU content so we're not changing anything yet" mode.
Its very doubtful. Like Hazama999 just pointed out, the devs are at a point where they're basically saying "oh, but we're not done with BLU, we have even more carnival content and more spells coming later," which I fully expect to be more one-and-done carnival matches and extremely situational spells that have use in no more than one or two puzzles. At this point, all I see them "fixing" is spell learning rates from trial enemies and dungeon enemies, and possibly giving the Masked Memeval glamour things gated behind it like a mount or something to entice people to repopulate it the same way they do with PvP.
They've haven't acknowledged much of anything about working on BLU beyond level cap, more spells and more carnival challenges.
BLU is not going to be changed to suit your idea of what it should be. We have what we have and that's all we're getting. If you don't like it, that's fine, but just move on and play something else. No point trying to argue why it should be your way when they already explained, in detail why it is the way it is.
Most likely.
But, if they're going to be looking more at feedback - Especially post the new stuff they have planned. Maybe they might consider it?
I mean anything that isn't "We're not changing Limited Jobs ever" is a step up.
People likely understand how slim a chance there is of BLU becoming an actual job, but the fact that Yoshida has already mentioned that they aren't simply going ahead with their projected timeline without regard to player feedback is a sign that maybe, just maybe, feedback such as this isn't wasted?
As such, it's silly to just be like "Oh, this is what we got... Lets just all go play a different game" especially when Yoshida and the devs do care about player feedback. For example, the recent letter about how due to player feedback regarding the sadness of not being able to wear spectacles on the new races, the Devs used their own free time to put in the work to make a bunch of spectacles wearable on them.
When previously, Yoshi stated that they wouldn't be able to wear them.
This was literally a case of Yoshi stated "This won't happen" and then it did, due to player feedback.
Always give honest and constructive feedback. Over the years ive watched this game since arr beta change, and many things they may not have done, was turned on a dime bc of fan feedback. No rednage ever? we got a redmage, BLU never coming? its here, just "limited" but thats for now, anything can change. When you think about all the feedback and requests that ended up making it in, its mind blowing.
Yeah sometimes something may not go the way everyone hoped, but I can tell that they do generally take into consideration.
For me, I can see BLU on a trial run, currently having fun with it, but sort of disappointed that in prder to learn some important skills, you have to be able to run dungeons(with OP friends willing to jump in that old content) so at the least...could use some hammering out at the least
+1. They would have to make some big adjustments to the job, and maybe they don't feel like it's something they can handle along with all the other jobs, but if 3000 post threads made Viera and Hroth a thing I'm hoping for this. (And I don't even have it unlocked yet, it just looks fun and cool as hell) .
So Blue Mage has always been my favorite job and I really enjoyed it in FFXI. I returned recently to give it a go and was incredibly shocked at the absolute garbage implementation Square-Enix has given it. A limited job with no access to duties? The skills are trash and the amount of spells in EXTREME trials is ludicrous. This is supposed to be a solo job? Are they crazy? NOBODY is listing this job in Party Finder anymore. That's how unappealing and waste of a time it was to make this a limited job. Blue Mage could have perfectly been altered to fit with the current theme of FFXIV. Don't give any excuses! It didn't have to be 100% like the previous iterations but it could have been done properly. Instead we got this mess of a job that I'm just shelving.
They need to unlock the class and seriously redesign how it plays. Right now the skills are a mess and the overall class was just poorly implemented. Don't even get me started on the Masked Carnival.
I support this thread. Unlock Blue Mage and make it a full class. Allow it to be put in Duties. Keep the current spell count limitation and let people make up their own minds as to what skills to bring. They were afraid that Blue Mage would be OP but at the end of the day it's extremely weak. The skills are just a dump fire mess. Also they kept mentioning "DOOM" in the past, but bosses are immune to pretty much everything. So that was a poor excuse.
Firstly, they never said that they weren't going to change BLU. If they did, I would very much like some source on that. Secondly? This is about providing feedback, about a, pardon my french, shit system nobody wanted. The current implementation of Blue Mage is objectively bad, and the concept of 'Limited Jobs' needs to get the guillotine.
