While I do think the current armory system can be refined, I hope they do so in a way that focuses on the various ways that classes can be combined to make unique play styles, rather than introducing new jobs/sub-jobs that do it for you.

Its funny how people want more to discover in the game, complaining of difficulty, and then balk at the customization and work that they can use for fear of "being a gimp"

Final fantasy's job system was based on the customization of the party, not for cubbyholes of people who all do the same thing. This mmo is based on the customization of the player.

It's best if the devs put you on their ignore list. The logic is simple. The generic jobs in the game are bringing its ratings down because they're stale and lifeless. You want ten more of the same cut of jobs. If generic jobs were a problem before, more generic jobs is more of a bad thing. Therefore, no one should listen to you when you say you want the beta dat jobs implemented.

You just want to play your rdm/war and you want the hundreds of people who made fun of you in XI to suffer for how they treated you. In reality, they were right. You were wrong. Their system where the developers control and design specific roles is is superior to yours where you go play sandbox and build your snowflake. The only ones you're actually making suffer is Square Enix, because this game's not floating and everyone interested in quality MMO play has stopped playing this.

The beta dat jobs represent a failed plan and a failed concept. You say you like it...well you're the only ones left, if you kill off everyone but Mormons in the US, mormons become the wide majority. In nature, evolution doesn't make mistakes and select the wrong survivors.

Unfortunately in videogaming development, mistakes are made that cause the survival of the wrong group. Generic sandbox jobs was such a mistake.

No one will play that piece of **** MMO where you have to level 3 horribly boring jobs to 50 to have the abilities you need to level 1 good job to 50. That's pathetic design for low-quality player demographics.

Personally I hope they are not unlocked classes but instead just the Traditional Jobs as a Title that gives you bonuses for a using skills favorable to the Job Title. Sure unlock the Higher skilled Job Titles but the first 6 (War, Thf, Mnk, Whm, Blm, Rdm) should be unlocked as soon as you get to what ever lets you use the Job System.

Why do you petition for 90% of the levelling in a game to be performed on a generic "template" then demote the superior idea into the equivalent of an overlay? Monk should be the foundation on which Hand to hand meleeing is based. Not pugilist. Monk should have a main story line and huge focus in the game. Not pugilist. Monk is our character and our archetype. Not. Pugilist. Monk is Final Fantasy. Pugilist is not.

The generic classes are feral weeds that need burned, and their roots upturned. Someone brought them over because they thought they'd give a new perspective and a fresh look to Final Fantasy. That was a mistake. Now they're everywhere. They have guilds. They have families. They have stories. And it's all a generic pile of noteless garbage, so say the reviews.

Get rid of the generics. They are a problem. They should not be part of some lazy solution.
Does it suck that they went through all the trouble to build a lancer story line? Sure does. Should have known better than to ever bring that **** into a FF though. Woodwailers? Get out of here with that random drivel, replace it with the Order of the Dragoon.

Saddest part about this Final Fantasy world is that you have no real jobs that any of us care about, and adding them to that world will ultimately leave them looking like patches instead of fundamentals. As long as there are pugilists running around with stories and quests, the game's always going to look like it was based on a mistake.

And it was honestly. They should have *never* gone with this generic approach.

Um, no.

Pretty sure having to level jobs to 50 to get anything interesting is horrible game design (and reminiscent of WoW...). As it is I can barely bring myself to level more than one job to even 30. It's SO INCREDIBLY GRUELING AND UNFUN. Maybe if leveling wasn't slow as molasses and involved more fun activities I could put up with leveling jobs to 50... but as it is right now it's god-awful. I can't stand it at all.

So a class that has been done to death in literally every fantasy RPG in existence is not generic but something like Fencer or Flayer is. Yet disregarding that classes like Fencer, Musketeer, Bard and Assassin have a history in the FF series as well. In fact even Flayer does to some degree (Quistis FFVIII).

You don't know anything about the alpha classes aside from a name and a weapon or magic. None of us know anything else about them. You can't really say how generic or unique they will be until they release any kind of information on them.

Quistis was a blue mage, not evidence of a flayer. Bard is a legitimate FF job. Assassin starts to jump the shark. Enforcer just straight looks like they don't give a **** any more and are desperate to switch it up.

All I need to know about the jobs is that they look like someone pulled them out of their asses just like the jobs we have now. More of the same is more failure. They will bring nothing new to the table that archetypal FF classes would not, and they are generic MMO fodderpieces with no history or fan loyalty. They PANDER to players who don't know real innovation if it backhanded them. Pseudoinnovation. We call them novelties and gimmicks, these superficial pointless changes for change sake, when they really change nothing. All these players want is cats with whips. They don't understand anything higher than that.

If your generic jobs are just prerequisites, what are you going to do about everyone who levelled a generic piece of **** for 50 levels? Give them a voucer for a REAL job?

Please... No Miqo'te with Whips... Either delete all traces of the Flayer class, or delete Miqo'te.

I will have to disagree with you Falcon and even though I know Pugilist has majority of the Monk trademark moves if they implement a Job system where you obtain the ability to change into a Monk or some other class and take away all the special abilities away from pug it would be neat. You would just have you plain base hand to hand fighter with a handful of abilities but wouldn't have things like Second Wind, Seismic Shock, Victimize etc.

That way it is content that you have to unlock and you get a sense of accomplishment from that. My question though is at a certain point will they force you to change to Monk or let's say Thief at like rank 30 or 40 or something? Or will they keep all the general based classes and let them have some individuality for themselves at higher levels?

They also Self-Heal, Throw Balls of Spirit Energy, Buff up their bodies to withstand an attack, and heal their allies.

Again, Peregrin in my system there is no Pre-reqs for Leveling a Job. There is nothing to level on the Job. The Job just dictates what type of specialization you chose. And gives you bonuses for staying on that path.

Of those classic class you coughed up only two were in Final Fantasy 1, and the only reason you got those abbreviations was due to 11.

Wanna know how those two turned into those 5? Innovation.

Has everyone already forgotten that class uniqueness and introduction of classic FF classes in some manner is on their to-do list? They will likely keep the current classes and names, along with some new ones and then supplement it with one of two systems to add the classics.

lack of content was a valid complain, Crap Battle System was due to Lag, and lag has improved quite a bit. But none of those reach back to the character customization. If anything most of the press Praised the Character customization.

The problem is the average English speaking player is too dumb to differentiate "Class" from "Job" in Final Fantasy's terms they are NOT the same and are NOT interchangeable. Thats why its call the Armoury System in XIV and the new system they are implementing is the JOB system.

So ask. Which you have done. But as has been said by the Devs it wont do anything to change the Armoury system now. It will only augment a character to make them stand out more in the role they want.

So if you want to be a Tank you can equip the job for Paladin for instance, use your favorite weapon and still be an effective tank. Thats how it SHOULD work.

Ever since alpha, I always wanted to see a true sentinel class: shield only (and a massive one at that! 2-handed).
(Yes, it is possible to attack with a shield, but it would be the ultimate tank class wielding huge shields to protect the party members. Special moves to quickly cover the team, force harmful spells to hit your shield instead of a team mate, provides a backward cone of protection against AoE spells [anything behind you], absorb damages and convert them in HP, MP or TP... many options, but pushed to the extreme for the true sentinel class.)

It would be fun to be able to play as a true sentinel. :)
At least, it would help with tactics and allow more strategies against powerful foes.

Too bad they are systematically destroying the positioning-related combat mechanics.

Here is what battle will be like now:

• Person uses provoke
• Ugly red orb flies at the enemey and suddenly the enemy can't attack anyone else in PT
• /auto attack /auto attack /auto attack
• have a nice chat in LS about the weather and other things
• /auto attack
• roll on loot

The lancer class in TERA is similar to what you are asking for. And similar to what everyone else has been asking for except for the FFXI fanatics who always get their way.

I hope they strip back this whole weapon/class system they have going on right now. I don't like being a "weapon specialist" and I don't like "creating my own job" from skill's learned from "weapons", maybe I'm old fashioned and I don't like innovation and new ways of doing things if thats what SE are trying to do with the armoury system but that is just me.

What I do like however is Black Mage, White Mage, Paladin, Dark Knight, Dragoon and so on. Jobs with clearly defined roles, something unique about them and a clear purpose, I guess I am just a big fan of the traditional ways which is probably why I am so disappointed in the current system.

I know a lot of people like the current system and I am sure I will get flamed for this and told "go back to FFXI" but I like my traditional job. Maybe they are "cookie-cutter" (hate that phrase) but at least they had a clear identity and where unique in their own way. Everything just feels Meh in FFXIV, there just isn't anything special about any of them.

If it were up to me I would strip back the weapon's to learning only weapon skill's from them and keep each weapon skill unique to the weapon so it can't be cross classed to a different weapon. Then remove physical level and replace with job level, implement proper jobs for learning skills, abilities and traits ie BLM,DRG,PLD and so on.

SE said they purposely made the races look similar to the races in FFXI to make FFXI players feel at home in Eorzea, well I don't feel at home in fact if it didn't say Final Fantasy on the box and have a few and I do stress few Final Fantasy staples in the game I would struggle to even recognise it as a Final Fantasy game.

As for implementing traditional jobs I can't wait and I really hope they don't do a half assed job of it. One thing though I really, really hope they do not do these talent trees or whatever they are called idea's that seem to be floating around as in the ones I have seen people are saying you would have to level GLA to 50 to unlock a branch for DRK and PLD. I really hate GLA as a class and if I have to level it to R50 just to get access to DRK I will not be a happy bunny ; ;

I also agree with Peregrine's original argument, but I don't think all the hostility was necessary in the least.

I would have liked to see traditional Final Fantasy jobs in this game, but we'll just have to wait and see what the next announcement has in store for us.

Overwhelmingly on the player poll FFXIV players are ex-11 fans, people played cataclysm because they wanted wow. We played XIV b/c we wanted similar concepts from XI.

FFXI fans don't want to "play a game" for 5 years, they want to spend five years sitting there while the game auto-attacks for them and lets them grind levels over and over again in the most boring and unimaginative way possible.

I think you got made fun of one too many times for your "unique" FFXI setup and it got to you.

Again, I'm sorry but those people are right. You may have enjoyed this little 6 month excursion into sandbox land where your snowflake character plays the way it want to play primarily because no one else cares any more, but the product is substandard.

If you don't like FF fans, walk off son. You don't belong here. I don't know what you're even doing here if you don't want to play a monk or dragoon. Squatting it sounds like.

I dread the day I invite a invite a Gladiator to my party to tank and they turn up and tell me they want to main heal because they setup their "sword user class" as a RDM because that is how great and flexible the system really is..........
