Stop waiting for cutscenes in alliance raids. We never did this in Stormblood.

imagine thinking "boss spawns and roars" or i guess what nowadays is "spouts off some one-liner for padding/fluff" is such a gripping part of the experience. like the only time this behavior had an excuse was back during old toto-rak, stone vigil and whatever other poorly designed instance tossed a long, actually plot-relevant cutscene at you before the boss.

Fully agreed. This isn’t like WoW or Lost Ark where you play the game. You basically watch the cutscenes and then watch the next one, it’s like Netflix but less diversity and more nodding.

By the way, I have an idea for a great feature. Instead of locking everyone in an involuntary cutscene (whether they’ve seen it or not), how about we make it so that people can start the fight, and cutscene-watchers can hop in once they’re done? I think it’s a terrible idea for players to be locked out of a fight for watching a cutscene, and Square Enix needs to fix this.

Of course, you don’t want that to happen, and that’s fine. You will watch plenty of real Netflix while idling at your house/Limsa until the next patch, because you’ve done all the cutscenes and there’s not much else. But surely the game is fine, right?

They already can port in when finished the cutscene. Only in ARR were people locked out of the fight

Agreed, but some people want them to be mandatory instead of optional. They don't want people to have the option to skip. They want instances to be like Praetorium. Except, instead of an in-game feature, they peer pressure and threaten to report anyone who pulls early. It's the pinnacle of overriding the developers' intent to fit your own ulterior motives of instilling social compliance.

while generally this is true for a lot of content, arguably a lot happens in the nier raids during those last cutscenes.

i think if everyone is okay waiting then wait. if not then someone will pull. the sprout should just keep watching and join when they can.

Yes and yes, matter of fact I waited for a person feeding their dog not even ten minutes ago in MSQ. That post was clearly a joke and as usual it gets taken seriously.

I, unironically, would not mind if the dungeon barriers remained sealed while a Cutscene is up, not force everyone onto the cutscene, just keep it locked, you would still be able to emote, run around, sort your inventory, anything, while waiting, but the 30 second wait would be mandatory, and that would hardly "make everything into Praet", as someone somewhere in this thread tried to strawman the point, nobody would complain about Praet if the extent of the mandatory cutscene was Gaius going "En garde, have at ye!", or whatever, in under a minute, the problem is that we have to watch to Cid discuss his daddy issues with Gaius, then attend to Cid and Nero's couples therapy session, then Gaius' monologue, that's what makes it add up, its nowhere near the same as most other dungeons.

Being besides players experiencing it for the first time... that momentary reflection of where you once were and what you experienced through others... it's hard to describe it? but it's a one time thing to be cherished. For me, helping 1st time clears can there for be satisfying. The reminiscences that you once were in their struggling shoes and re-experiencing the first time clear by being along side their journey is " Satisfying ".

Desire to go as fast as possible? goes towards " Optimization ". Uptime/Rotation/Slidecasting/Raidbuffs/Tinctures/Flawless/Zero-Mistakes etc. This is not everyone's up of tea... and it should never be forced upon players as the gold standard. Expecting players to play at x performance? is wishful thinking since the only character you control is " yours " and no one else's. And you cannot tell players how to play either in-game that's against TOS. The conclusion becomes rudimentary...

Want it done ASAP? Carry as many stones you can to be as weightless as possible for the Raid vs making the Raid heavier yourself. Someone else messes up? then you continue to play as flawless as you can to pick up the slack if how fast something needs to be done matters to you. That's all you can do

They should try picking theirs up while they wait if they can't go more than 20 seconds without stimulation.

Not trying to be contrary, but there is a distinct chance they will bampf into the boss fight mid-mechanic and be damaged/killed by it completely outside of their control.

This happened to my wife in one of the Nier raids and she was rather unhappy being weakened and 1 shot by everything in that fight after that.

Similarly, when Prae scenes were skippable, I had a friend who didn’t even play the dungeon. As soon as they got out of one cutscene they immediately jumped into another. They felt very dissatisfied/unhappy that THAT was the climax of the 2.0 series. I forget if they were on free trial..but this was somewhere in the Stormblood era. Either way that alone made them decide not to buy HW/SB.

So, generally people won’t care if you pull. 99% probably don’t. But it can absolutely ruin the run for that 1%.

We're not talking about Prae, we're talking about a 24 person raid which might have 45s of cutscenes in it.

Very true. So have you written to Square Enix telling them to gate the fights for cutscenes? They allow people to pull early, and cutscene-watchers are teleported to the fight once they're done. They actually added this feature in 4.3 to accommodate both types of people. So...why do you believe that Square Enix is promoting griefing, and how are you going to get the company's attention? Do you think mass-reporting people will be effective when modders, cheaters, hackers, and bots already go unscathed?

It’s not griefing. Explain how it is. Does the person miss their cutscene? No. Are they locked out of the fight? No. Are you blowing smoke? Yes

Well i'm not waiting for just a few persons. On day one and maybe two i'm patient, but then i'm just pulling and most people start fighting.
The players can watch the cutscenes anyway.

I'd recommend returning back to wow with that skip-skip-skip maze+ timer mentality when approaching other people.

Yeah I honestly wouldn't mind that either. Can still emote at each other and get ready for the barrier to fall.

Last time this topic came up, not only were there people who said they pull no matter what and weren't going to wait for the sprout, but held that they felt they could also report anyone who didn't immediately run in with them as griefing. So just locking it would eliminate that sort of nonsense take.

You can wait for new people to watch the cutscenes, if not then I will let you die since i heal.

If people actually cared they would let you die but nope. People just want someone to make the first move and get the flak from the one or two busybody moral crusaders in the raid.

Not really. It's more a question of time efficiency. Letting that one person who pulled (and the few who joined them) die would add more time by having them come all the way back to that fight. Or they get raised with weakness debuff. I really do prefer when people wait for the newbies to watch the cutscene, but if it's already pulled then the ship has already sailed on that.

Also the alert around the boss being pulled causes a reaction of alarm from people, and they move in without rationalizing because they just go "Oh fug I need to be there, stat!", I actually have an example from a while back, where a BA run failed because some people jumped down to Ozma, and started the fight prematurely, leading to most other people jumping down unprepared when the alert went up, which led to everyone who jumped down dying, the run lead had to make a call where the few survivors initiated the fight, and played it out just long enough for Ozma to use Black Hole, so that everyone would be sucked outside of BA where they'd be able to be rezzed and thus not lose XP.
