Yes, he did, live onstage at Fanfest 2014. The cosplayer wanted to give him one of their prop weapons. "Real ninjas should diet/work out more" was Yoshida's reply, depending on if you go by the Japanese original or the translator. Imagine being that much of a winner to someone who loved your game so much they made a cosplay and attended your con, in front of thousands of people.

I want to add, the Spanish community are begging since 1.0 for a Spanish translation of the game, we even said many times that we are happy only with the text, but hey, we are totally ignored, and we are not so little players playing (Plus the people that tried the game and left because some English way of speaking -Pirate English, ancient English like dragons one and Urianger's- are overly complicated for foreigners)
And we are talking about one of the most spoken languages in the world, but we get ignored again and again with the excuse of: Is because that's expensive

The criticisms about the technical issues are valid but how it was done, and personal attacks, and comparisons to other people who have committed despicable acts to their workplace makes whoever piles on with this sort of mentality the most disgusting of all. I'll take my broken housing system and play a bald Hrothgar if I have to, or I'll respectfully leave feedback and unsubscribe.

3rd: If they really want to make healers for everyone then their design absolutely fails. Healers are the least populated role and the one with the least gameplay variety to the point 2 healers are almost clones. If you want a role to be for "everyone" then you add different playstyles and jobs that work at all skill ranges but healers are none of that, they are not for everyone, they are just the afterthought of a bunch of devs that do not know the healer gameplay (all of them are dps mains) nor seem to listen to the feedback which is why we get the "go play ultimate" or devs thinking back in Sb Sch didn't heal when it was the highest hps healer

This patch has been one of the best patches we've ever had too lol.
I get that there are problems but people are going insane about it and are taking it too far.

The cash shop isn't even the devs fault, I am pretty sure that's SE's doing.
If anything it's Yoshi who has managed to make it have as little of a presence as possible, if SE got their way it'd be more like a Korean MMO and I am fairly sure it'd have P2W elements like in WoW.
So it just becomes stupid to blame the devs for it.

Edit: I'd say the same to some extent about WoW, it's not entirely the devs fault but I will blame the devs for how they implemented it because that's ultimately on their end.

Dots might not make it busier for you, but watching several dot timers tick down while also healing could be too much for some people. I assume this is why it changed.

This is probably the BIGGEST problem in the whole game. I don't speak spanish, but it's simply unacceptable that this game still don't have this language. We have a huge Italian, Spanish and Portuguese speakers that are ignored. This is worse than any other problem in this game since they can't even play the game.

Isn't Spanish the first or second most common spoken language in the world? Seems like a good market to break into imo. Then again, there is a matter of budget. The devs could use their budget instead on ... giving hroths jelly bean hair. Interesting maneuver.

Obviously I'm aware it's not as simple as just spend money 4head, but it does beg the question where the budget is going when it's not being spent on features that would be universally liked.

Maybe you confused it with Blm's flare which is a gcd with actually long cast time

Dots gave skill gap which is something healers really need as right now they're even less deep than classes. Its perfectly fine if people can't manage all of them at once at the beggining thats what learning and difficulty curves are for which other roles have (tanks have to manage self buffs, dots, defensive cds and ofensive cds with more frequency than healers) and if they are too much there were healers with less dots than Sch, right now there is no option just 1 nuke spam and 1 dot, that is not a design for everyone, that is just trash design. Besides if anything healers should cherish the dots because since they're damage over time makes the GCD heals less harming (due to less dps reliance on the main nuke) which is actually a very noob friendly design as it allows them to keep a good portion of their dps even when they panic and have to heal more

It seems skill gap is what they are trying to remove entirely. For example, if you pressed Flourish on dancer to trigger every proc, it would overwrite any existing procs that you didn't use. This was changed so now it won't and that was one the things that someone not good at dancer would be likely to get wrong.

It's a convenient change but like the alignment of raid buffs or the stacks of 5 replacing buff windows, it's one of the many signs that they are trying to eliminate skill gap, so that as long as you press everything off cooldown you can't be doing it wrong.

I'm not sure what the solution for healers is. In my opinion, either the outgoing damage from bosses should be frequent enough to justify all of these heals, or healers should become more like a black mage or a red mage. The problem is that the outgoing damage is high and frequent in a small amount of content and that small amount of content still justifies the need for all of these heals. At least before the stat squish I would have to burn through my whole kit when there were big pulls in dungeons such as Holminster Switch, Akadaemia Anyder, Grand Cosmos, Anamnesis Anyder, the last 5.0 dungeon and in level 50 minimum item level content.

The solution for healers is simple, really, and we've been saying it for years increase the dps/support skills. In fact we have the perfect enviroment to do that, normal mode dungeons are low damaging and tanks have insane sustain, providing a lot of oportunities for healers to make those offensive actions shine and getting used to them, we have job gauges and charge systems which would give healers the ability to delay the application of said dps actions if for some reason emergency healing is required without losing uses and we have insanely strong heal cooldowns that allow to maintain that ofensive flow even when healing is required. All cogs of the clock are there we just need the devs to realize that they have to press the On button

Also same. Even Reddit and Twitter tend to be less toxic than the official FFXIV forums, and that's saying something since they can both be... well, pretty darn toxic. I tend to stay away from these forums for that reason and have only been buzzing around here the last few days to scrape up information about housing and a potential resolution. This is actually true rofl.
It kinda feels at times like people on the forum are obsessed with convincing others about how bad the game supposedly is.
It's the same with the '' toxic positivity '' thing, and then you find out that the reason why people had an issue with the '' criticism '' or negative opinions the OP had was because the OP was being a jerk.

I don't think that this is true, but at times it almost feels like it's infested with salty WoW players.
The forums just comes across like Twitch chat for a WoW Streamer or something being all like '' NUH-UH WEEB LOSER GAME BAD TOXIC POSITIVITY I CAN'T CRITICIZE !?! !? ''.
It's just so fundamentally different than what I see ingame and else where.

Like I understand that there are problems... I've been very frustrated with Job changes too...
But holy hell people act like the devs are intentionally trying to upset people and like it's the worst thing that has ever happened to them.
I get getting upset about stuff, but people gotta have some understanding and self-awareness about how they give criticism to the devs.

While I also agree with a lot of the criticisms, it's definitely getting a bit tiring to watch people shit up almost every thread with wild conspiracy theories. It's particularly bad in threads about job design (or threads that devolve into threads about job design). The devs say that they want to make some jobs easier a few times and suddenly every single change is in service of that.

My brother in Christ, sometimes they're just making jobs worse because they're out of touch with the needs of the players. It's not always some Grand Master Plan to make jobs easier and appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Heavily disagree. While there is a lot of negativity on the forums(which i mean, can’t really blame when the devs specifically say to use this place as a place for criticism), nothing compares to reddit or twitter. I still have someone to this day from a year ago making multiple alts to spam death threats at me and my posts, spamming me with homophobic slurs. On ff14 twitter i have had people tell me all men should die, only women need to live, if you dislike anything about the game you’re transphobic etc. I hardly ever see anything like that on here and thank god i don’t.

Man I feel for healers but monks were in the trash for the longest too. I gave up and switched mains before they finally changed monk. XIV has it's issues for sure. Talk to anyone maining a healer or DRK. But I'd still say it's lightyears still ahead of whatever the heck they are doing at WoW.

He never said that you can only enjoy healing in ultimates, and clearly a lot enjoy healers as they are. Especially since the easiest healer, Scholar, is played far more than the harder healer job like Astrologist.

That also doesn't even compare to Ion telling High Elf fans to roll Horde or quit as the Alliance was never gonna get High Elves. Then he forced out Void Elves who could only be Blue and was angry and spiteful that fans didn't praise him. Then after he was forced to add in High Elf skin tones, due to the massive backlash, to the Void Elves that he made sure that Void Elves never got anything ever again after that. They're excluded from every Void storyline that has happened in WoW since Legion and their Void Elf customization topic thread has been going on for years and not one thing was ever added in or considered despite many of the options being easy additions as they already use assets already in the game.

Then there's the Flying controversy and how Ion wanted it removed and when fans quit over it in large numbers he backtracked then added in Pathfinder out of spite which plagued the game for years. With Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder being the most brutal and only just got removed a few months ago in Dragonflight. Two expansions later. If BFA and SL didn't cause mass exodus from WoW then WoW would still have Pathfinder.

Then there's him admitting that they designed Raids and M+ around Weakauras/DBM/GTFO/other addons and told players that didn't use it that they were out of luck.

I don't know who Ion Hazzikostas is, but I often wonder if Yoshi is just a PR genius. What he's accomplished is actually really impressive. He's so charismatic to his fans that any critique of Final Fantasy XIV becomes a critique on its idolized lead developer. We saw this most prominently during the EW delays, where Yoshida wept on a livestream while announcing the change of date. Imagine if Blizzard had delayed an expansion like this. Their good will is so spent; their fans would've burned it all to the ground. But over here, the head of the development team has a face and a personality and it's a lot harder to be highly critical because of it. Even for me, someone who loves complaining online, it's hard to do because I "feel" like Yoshi actually cares about the game and its fans and it feels less like criticizing a nameless corporation and more like criticizing a fun game-loving former-mmo-enjoying uncle or something.

I catch myself feeling this way and wonder "what if it's all by design?" a lot. For example, when Yoshida told everyone to quit when they're bored, while being an ex-mmo player who knows exactly how difficult it is to really walk away from an mmo and also implementing housing demolition. With all of that in mind, it feels like "just quit" might be similar to a drug dealer telling the junkie to just stop. Like, you've implemented systems in your own game to make people feel bad about stopping. And you've played MMOs in the past so you know how it feels to be on the player side. I wonder if it was just a bluff for him to say that, and whether or not he knew how much it'd pay off for him. Because now, thanks to that statement, the game can go several months with no content and anyone who asks why this is the case gets yoshi's words echoed back at them by yoshi's fans. In hindsight, it was a brilliant move. Maybe it was calculated. Maybe it was luck. I don't really know.

Lol yes make Raid content that on release he has to nerf 75% cuz he overtuned it so much such good content.
