I want Final Fantasy XI-2.
Seriously Square, Can you just make it PLEASE?
I guess I can see your point and I'm glad that NM hunting like it was in FFXI worked well for you. I guess if they made some NMs like how they were in FFXI - but only like 15% of them at the very most - I wouldn't have a problem with your proposal. Hunting rare, not-instanced monsters for special loot is one of my favorite things to do in any MMO. If they made most NMs like how you suggested, even with the "non-essential" unique drops, it wouldn't exactly be "optional" content just for people who like that, it would also be messing up a part of the content that is important to me and many other players who don't want NMs to be like that.
Anyway I agree with you that hunting NMs should be more than farming 5 minute spawns that always stay in one small area. Maybe with some NMs like how they were in FFXI and some NMs using innovative new techniques like the item-gathering thing I suggested, NMs overall would be a lot more interesting and keep people taking in-game.
Also, to expand on your good idea about NM "trophy" drops, it'd be cool if they dropped useful/fun things besides equipment, such as "fun" items similar to the Peach Confetti, one-use items like the exp scrolls, and when full player housing comes out, furniture and decorations (musicboxes! :D)
After 21 kills of Shikigami in Ro'Maeve, and probs around 10-15missing out on claims, before I got a YY Robe to drop in XI, I can safely say I'd rather be kicked in the nuts by everyone for XI style NM's than actually go through the pain of Camping XI Style NM's for an item that is the defacto for a class I enjoy to play.
And I actually mean that.....I seriously would, thats how bloody traumatised I am from playing XI for 7+ Years.
I'm all for adding random pop NM's if they drop nothing of worth just a Vanity item/title/achieve or something, but once you add in drops of worth (Hai to you Thief Knife/YY Robe/Etc) you force people to camp this NM. Leave the rewards as fluff so only those who enjoy this evil system can do it, and those who don't enjoy it, dont feel the need they "Have to" to play their Class/job correctly.
Lets not and say we did. There are already NM's, low and high level, that drop worthless gear which you can go camp if you want to so bad.
So make NMs drop random useless drops so people have a tale of how they came across epic trash items during their journey?
Having such archaic systems in place may satisfy the FFXI nostalgia for some people but for the people SE is targeting it won't.
All MMOs are about time sinks but this is not something this generation of gamers will find "fun" by any means. People are forgetting that FFXI never reached 1 million subs because of the shift of the genre. Low level items should always be easy and accessible to obtain without such time consuming methods. Endgame should be where the time sinks come into place.
Please don't speak for me when you say the majority of people. The OP is right, the challenge of claim, the thrill of discovering a NM that just popped, the randomness, and competetion all contributed to the fun. The NM system they have in place is noobish as Majidah pointed out with his rollercoaster analogy. Keep in mind that the majority of the people who play this game came from XI. These people left XI because it wasnt the same game it used to be years ago (book burn parties, level sync, etc.). They are moving to XIV by the many because they're hearing about the updates and changes being made. If the game is to be the success that XI was, than the players will expect a similiar experience in a new world to explore.
Primals and Instanced Raids dont have to be eliminated for these to co-exist.
I agree with Jinko and am of the opposite opinion of the OP. I like when big baddies look like big baddies. It bothers me when an NM is just a regular mob with an inflated HP pool, possibly a special attack, and a different name. That's not cool. That's actually kinda lame.
Give us more unique world bosses that would make someone stop in their tracks and go "WTF is that?!"
Variation adds character and life to the world.
Obviously FFXI had great elements that can be used in FFXIV... but for the love of the twelve 0.5% drops rates was NOT ONE OF THEM /sob
Stop acting like it has to be like XI A lot of ppl actually liked to camp nm's bosses. I don't want the mobs to be 21 hr respawn with a 3 hr window. I could deal with a mob that re spawns every 21 hr 30 - 22hrs with 3 10 mins windows. Meaning the mob could pop exactly @ 21 hr 30 mins or 21:40 or 21:50 or 22 hrs.
It will then become a time consuming matter because a lot of people will start camping said Mob.
If the NM is of High Level/endgame it would be great. However, for a mob dropping low to mid gear it is not a smart addition to the game. Time consuming mechanics should not take place before endgame.
FFXI does have some good pieces in its puzzle but it can't just be placed anywhere in todays MMO.
Great idea and while your at it change the current generation of players so we can get FFXIV off the ground, ok?
Creating a journey that is fun has nothing to do with running to a spot and hoping you can claim a mob before 100 other people do. Just to get a shot at an item you MIGHT get and WILL out level.
I don't have pics, but it's a fact that I went 3/12 on Rabbit Charm... as BLM.
Also a fact that 3 GM's came to Garlaige Citadel to congratulate me on my 'achievement'. xD
Like i said you just assuming they are gonna make pop conditions like xi it does not have to be that way. I also lol @ the ppl saying killing some nm's in xi was an waiting game, those are the same ppl who could never claim LL cause they didn't know you only had to kill 2 of the lizzards that spawn which was the PH's. Only nm's that was an waiting game was mobs like Cerb and such. They can always make mobs pop every 21 hrs no matter what no windows or anything.
What's wrong with making a World NMs with odd spawning conditions if it doesn't impact you? Oh wait. Today's 'generation' of MMO gamers don't like exclusionary content. Even if said content was a PH NM that took 2-3 hours of killing moles in 1 of 3 groups in Northern Thanalan named Mauling Moley who gave you epeen poin- I mean achievement points, or a vanity item, or a firework. Because you want to be able to afford the same thing as everyone else, in the same amount of time, with the same amount of work. Guess what princesses, that's not real life. Some people go the extra mile, some get lucky, some slack, and some set goals. Some take a long as necessary, some give up quickly. Some people have different priorities.
The reality is, if SE can't make a game that has the sheer scope of VARIETY and OPTIONS that FFXI had in 14, then no matter what they add, people will stop playing. There's room for tons and tons of different types of content to be added in FFXIV, from all MMOs, and from other games/genres. When someone suggests something that will not be available to you because of time constraints, try giving feedback about how to make their suggestion more viable. Not condemn it and them for having such ludicrous opinions, which will clearly affect your personal level of fun, because you can't have what they have. It's stupid. Competition and Co-Operation is what makes MULTIPLAYER games good! End of story. They can and should co-exist.
Don't be a raging penis because you can't see someone else's point of view. Just go about your merry way if can't submit any real, productive feedback. Simply saying, "I don't want this, because I don't want it." or "This isn't ____ game. Quit asking for ____ game's content." is foolish and naive.
All games build upon all games. It's human nature. It's progress. Sometimes the best ideas are turds that were polished and woahhh look out! Found a GD Silver dollar inside. Now let's put it to use.
You are assuming about what you think I'm assuming.
Time consuming mechanics prior to endgame is pointless in this generation as it will not go by well. You fail to understand that if a mob pops every 21 hours do you think, in a populated MMO, you will be the only one there? It will become time consuming for an item you MIGHT get and WILL out level.
Such "waiting game" time mechanics before endgame will be a wasted effort and looked at as a negative in this generation.
Why is it waiting game? You will set up camp before the pop, probably with a bunch of others, and still hope the others or someone passing through doesn't lay claim to it. meaning you will have to wait another 21 hours to get a shot at a low drop rate item.
Again someone pointing out another assuming when they assume one specific individuals random factoid, and mark it as relevant, thus personally berating there opinion and further derailing the conversation.
To stay on topic, try to elaborate how having these types of NMs and spawning conditions with non-essential drops, such as vanity items, trophies, epeen, and titles impede your ability to play the game, other than being a "elitist" hater, and QQing when you get labled lolcasual. (If you didn't catch it, I was implying that both of those titles are completely inconsequential and have no impact on the game as a whole, other than to stir up personal vendetta's that bleed over into your arguments rendering them invalid.)
So, by this standard, what is an acceptable amount of time? You are fixating on one aspect that you dislike, therefore, finding common ground on that aspect should alleviate the dilemma. At the same time, remember that this was done with the suggestion of having TROPHY ITEMS as opposed to highly sought items. Again, how about a pair of Mole Mittens and Rabbit Cap or some cutesy stuff like that?
Did you not notice he responded to my statement and I have been replying to him ever since? The guy is also probably a grown man able to express his opinion without DrekeLamorte trying to help.
I will state it again since people seem to be missing it...
Such "waiting game" time mechanics before endgame will be a wasted effort and looked at as a negative in this generation.
Money matters to a company and doing something that will be a negative impact is not smart. Epeen can be held off for endgame matters. Anything before that is wasted effort.
*sigh* Again it is not the time of the NM but the area which it is placed content wise. Having "cutesy" low level items already have a place. It's called event items. There are even mid level event items.
Having useful items that use the "waiting game" mechanics AND competition is much better suited for high leveled content.
Okay, I can accept your answer just fine. However, what should we do in the next 7 months while we wait for content? And what should we do between end-game events once they are here? I understand that we will have some new things coming our way but, as I said in my original post, having additional options to enjoy the game with isn't a bad thing.
Also, the only reason I really advocate the items being non-essential is because it will appease the larger (or maybe just louder - it's hard to tell) consumer-base that doesn't want the game to be too competitive.
See you keep saying things like It will have a low drop rate etc. It does not have to be like XI. A lot of people want competition between shells and the only thing we have now are Lol world first kills on bare bones content. These nm's could be prime ls content cause you could bring more than 8 ppl with you.
Edit: one thing XI does right that this game does not it rewarded for your time every time you did something as time consuming as people say it was. I have spent more time killing ifrit than i have any NM in XI and still have not got the item i wanted.
Quests, Hamlet Defense, Events, or simple LS fun. I wouldn't count on much "MMO extras" anytime before 2.0 anyway. I think most of us are a bit deranged but you can only do what we have already been doing...Wait until 2.0.
If it is the majority that wants this but not too much competition, it will be counter-productive in what is desired. The timer, drop-rate, and demand will create such competition that isn't wanted.
How about a nifty compromise folks?...
How about Guildleves randomly/occasionally pop NM's for the solo/duo players (can only be claimed by the leve owner) and...
Behests randomly/occasionally spawn NM's which only Behest participants can claim. (Random loot pool).
I am also hoping that Hamlet Defense will have several NM's mixed in with the waves of Coblyns and Nutcracker Squirrels. ;>P
Ok so up the drop rate and have Linkshells galore running around with their new shinies. How does that give a linkshell the epeen they are looking for? Difficult fights downed by the first Linkshell, using their own thought out strategy,
is where the competition will be. Increasing the drop rate just allows any linkshell that gets lucky(or class stacking lazy) a new shiny which diminishes the value or epeen effect of it. Most of XI's epeen effect came from time consuming and luck based mechanics that made you a niche for having such a gift. Kraken Club was not one of the most expensive items because it was easily obtained.
The epeen effect among LS happen when they have something to boast about over the majority of others.
Yes the system in place for those fights(ifrit, moogle) is very annoying and should be changed. However, both XI and XIV are both luck based and each depends on the person telling their story.
Not when this version of the game is coming to a close in half a years time. You still have yet to draw any tangible correlation, OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER, between adding epeen content(already been done and is in yoshi's favor) and it having a negative impact on the game. If anything, the epeen fluff stuff has done more for 14 so far than either primal fights.
What epeen fluff stuff is currently in game? Most people are just excited that jobs have been released and the game is FINALLY shaping up after all of this waiting.
If all we had were the classes still people would not be as excited compared to how they are now. PUG would be a no show, THM would be angry at how they will be in parties to mostly cure, and etc.
Most of what is in Yoshi's favor has nothing to do with some item being placed in game right now. It's how he is modding this horrid world into something much better than Tanaka left behind. The long wait is finally starting to pay off.
Epeen/Competition only matters at endgame. So you camped for 100 hours just to receive an item slightly better, for a job you will level up, and then never look back at the item again. That's is nothing to boast about to anyone.
If that's what someone wants to do with their time and they enjoy so be it. It doesn't effect either one of us so why care? That's like me being pissed that someone ate falafel in Central Park for lunch - it only impacts them and the vendor. If people want falafel and the vendor is willing to selling aaaaaand it doesn't have any impact on us why freak out?
Again you completely miss the entire topic. It's not for some low-mid level gear to satisfy you until endgame content. It's substance. Things other than powerful gear. That's what makes an MMO a fun place to be. Options, choices, shared experiences. It doesn't all have to be PL pt's so you can make laps around AV/CC/lolmoogle/loliffy for gear, that i'll remind you will be rendered more obsolete with every patch. That's the nature of the beast. Can't you people ever just enjoy content for the sake of doing something, without having to have +120 in all the most OP stats you can to enjoy it. Gear grind =/= a game. It's a niche part. Only important as a whole experience.
Because said content has to be made for the majority of the player base, else it's not worth the cost of development. It pretty much goes without saying most people will not camp hours on end for a piece of fluff gear. If they have absolutely nothing better for members of their development team to do (which by the looks of things won't happen for at LEAST 2 years) then that's when it's worthwhile to do it.
No it's not like that at all. Everything that's added into this game needs to be evaluated and checked for the costs.
Yoshi-P constantly has similar writings in his posts so it's safe to assume Big Daddy SE isn't just throwing money at him. If Yoshi purchases a falafel he better have enough for the majority to eat.
Yoshi needs to continue using his limited resources wisely and save the MMO(excuse the word) "fodder" for a much later time. 2.0 is coming around the corner and he's going to need more hard hitting stuff to attract and keep gamers.
That doesn't mean that people cannot and should not request functions they would like to see eventually make it into the game. If that was the case, these forums would not be here. Nobody is saying "this content needs to be here now" - what we are saying is that we would like to see and would prefer it be sooner than later. So far, it seems SE has a timeline and vision that they are working towards - I trust if they have resources they deem fit to direct towards this they will.
So what i'm getting is you want to control how fast you can get your epeen? Yes both was luck but XI rewarded 90% of the time for your time. Like i said nothing wrong with world bosses no one has given a valid argument why they shouldnt be here except it was boring to camp mobs for 4 hrs and i didn't like it.
No monster's need pop windows or anything they could just spawn when they are ready. Just give me one good reason why it should be here besides it was in xi and it took a long time to camp certain mobs, because the latter can be fixed easy.
I have never stated such things should not be asked for, I simply gave my opinion on how time consuming wait mechanics should not be added as content, prior to endgame. If a MMO consumes your time it should not be by standing and waiting or reaching a location and hoping, as a low level.
Achievement rewards and Holiday Events is how you add such "extras" into a MMO.
Spawn when they are ready? So you will still be playing the waiting game even more than XI... I don't know how else to express what I keep re-typing so...
This will be my last post on this thread. I have no other way to express the main point of my post without sounding rude about it.
How is it an waiting game if you know the monster spawns 22 hrs exactly from the last death.....? Just like the joy toy nm it spawned 8 hrs after death one of the easier nm's to claim. Ok guys X___X spawns in 10 mins lets teleport to bluefog to claim, where is the waiting game you speak of? Or is it you just want more 5 min respawn mobs if you do we already have that. the the whole point of this thread OP does not want an 5 min respawn NM's might as well put it in an instance like ifrit then.
