They probably had the plan in place already, but...plans change. Or at least they should. There was nothing stopping them from maybe making some alterations here and there.

Just sucks, I really wanted to do my SMN relic butt with the dawn of Pagos I just couldn’t stomach it....
Anemos wasn’t amazing or anything but it was tolerable so I don’t know why they didn’t keep with this design and maybe build off it with the suggestions from the player base instead of that crap fest between Anemos and Pyros...
Well hopefully SE truly learns from these content mistakes or I doubt this game survives till 6.0.
Hey, maybe they have. Who know what they looked like before Anemos release. + they nerfed Pagos two time before it loose its relevance and may have applied those nerf to Pyros before its crash.
People like you are why Diadem is on the verge of being scrapped with many of the worthwhile awards from it being in HoH now, but Eureka only keeps getting more and more shinies locked behind it. Because what didn't work for Diadem apparently works for Eureka.
Hell at least Diadem is good for gatherers.
Why I'm responsible for this ?
I'm not part of SE FFXIV game design branch, I didn't even set a foot in Diadem but hey Eureka happen anyway.
Just because I'm not deluded enough to think my subsciption have any weight ?
I'm not advocating for this to keep existing for f**k sake, I'm telling you people will do it anyway because even if its not fun AT ALL for me other may they find it tolerable enough to get the carrot or even have fun in it because every one have different taste and tolerance. I'm not even playing it as intended, I'm a train lover, I barely play it and get the hell out the second I get my relic cause that all I want and afking most of the time is tolerable enough for me to get it.
But hey keep on dreaming you can change the world by doing nothing and just ignore it. I think voicing my opinion on how terrible it is and why it is this bad have more value than "don't love it ? don't do it duh". I don't like peach, I'll keep not eating them until trees stop growing them.
Don't worry, it will die next expansion and the next relic process will probably change because Eureka as a whole failed to entertain. Pyros didn't start last month you know, ANemos was release that Pyros was already worked on, they can't just throw magical dust and voilà its totaly different, next step will be released even if Pyros population stay very low for weeks cause thats how it works.
I would rather play XIV1.0 again rather than Eureka. I really hope the developers is not becoming as out of touch and tonedeaf like Blizzard and the fiasco announcement of Diablo Mobile :/
Yeah, Pagos hurts the whole Eureka really bad, they took a huge risk and didn't pay at all. Its going to stay a really hard relic (and other stuff too while at it, a smart FC will probably came here to farm and sell those reward for millions of gil) to get in the future if they don't come out with some stupidly overpowering deus ex machinae to help people breeezing through or just skip the step with tomestone and forget about the rest.
its a shame, if they actually focused on a original gameplay and not grind/fate they could get one of the best instance ever. A more, "secret world" type of gameplay, I'm sure those guys can come up with better time sink than those stale idea from the last century. The whole elemental thing isn't even exploited that much its a shame.
I went hardcore and got all my levels and Eureka upgrades within two weeks of Anemos' launch, and then again with Pagos.
This time I went in Pyros, i did the initial quests of talk to this guy n that and then stepped out of the gate and heard the music playing, i looked around at the various parties chain pulling, I see the flood of "lfg" in shout chat, like PTSD it all came back to me.... i let out a sigh and said "naaaaah", exited and logged off.
Because you’re participating in content that you don’t enjoy simply because you want the rewards. I think that sends the wrong message to the developers.
I don’t think the message you should send to video game developers is “I hate this content, but put something shiny enough in it and I’ll do it anyways, regardless of how much I hate it, how much the content sucks, and how miserable I am”, is it?
It’s actually not delusional to believe that large backlash can provoke a reaction—how do you think we got Wards 13~18 in Patch 4.2?
And others are merely disagreeing with this mindset. Because, when you play a game, you shouldn’t be miserable while doing it.
Uhm. Of course, you can’t “change the world by doing nothing” and “just ignoring it”. No one here is advocating to “do nothing” and “just ignore it”, or have you not been reading the thread? But you can change things if you are vocal enough about it, and if enough people have a negative reaction to it. How do you think Pagos got nerfed 2 weeks after release? I don’t think that happened because people “did nothing”. Again, how do you think we got Wards 13~18 in Patch 4.2? It certainly wasn’t through ignoring the dumpster fire that was Shirogane’s release.
Going to have to post this here since I’m out of posts for now:
No need to be rude or act like a child. That doesn’t make anyone receptive to listening to what you have to say.
Don’t quote things that I didn’t say. All you’re doing is putting words in my mouth with this statement. Find where I said that people participating in Eureka is killing the game.
I said it’s sending the wrong message to the developers—mainly that the content is successful/well-received when it clearly isn’t. I didn’t say it was killing the game. Though, if they continue to shove content people dislike down the playerbase’s throat, eventually the game will suffer.
So please, stop putting words in my mouth.
Am I defining anyone’s boundaries? No, I am not. If you’re referring to me using the word “you”, it’s called “the general you”. Look up what it means.
Perhaps you should do research then before you make statements that people can’t change things they dislike, then.
Shirogane’s release was an absolute mess: people couldn’t get past the lobby server because the game was so flooded, the game crashed for many because it couldn’t handle the load that Kugane was under from everyone trying to cram into the city-state; it was a mess. I’d recommend you go back and read the threads about it, because there was nothing positive to say about the way Shirogane’s release went down. All 3 regions were complaining about it, and JP aren’t usually ones to complain about much. The outrage was so massive that Yoshida personally responded to it that they were going to implement Ward 13 through 18 in each of the 4 housing districts afterwards, as well as implement efforts to try and discourage people from buying up all the new plots and flipping them, which happened with Shirogane’s 4.1 release.
People complained, and they got a result. It does happen. Saying it does mean that you simply haven’t done the research to see that it does. Sadly, it’s infrequent.
People who start off responses with “blah blah blah blah” simply because they don’t like what someone else said generally don’t come off as looking to have a discussion. Just saying.
Again, look up what the “general you” means; me using “you” in a sentence generally does not mean you explictly. However, you are the only one here with an attitude. I’d recommend checking it if you want to actually have a discussion here. And to stop getting so offended at replies to you.
Eureka may be what finally cancels my account. They poured too many resources into it. I don’t raid and Eureka is terrible so there’s not much for me to do ingame. I’m just waiting to see if fan fest announces anything exciting. I would have canceled earlier but they take your house away from you now :(
For the next relic series I hope they don’t lock emotes and other items behind it. That’s not cool SE. good thing I can buy them off the market board I guess...
"I hate eureka"
Then don't do it
"No"
Blah blah blah blah
First, I'm all for it to be deleted or canceled or whatever, I'm just telling you that ranting about "people don't like it but do it anyway isn't going anywhere they kill the game by promoting the thing they hate" don't help at all, people that don't want to do it, won't. They don't need you to define what their boundaries are. I brind explanation on why people do it anyway, I don't care about how its bad for the games future cause you don't have a clue about it neither do I.
Don't tell me what I should do or don't you are nobody to tell me how to enjoy my game so be gone with your attitude.
Wasn't here at Shirogane release so no, I don't see what you are talking about nor I care that much about it to be honest.
Doing stuff we don't totaly enjoy for something we enjoy are like a daily basis for like, everybody on the planet even in games, never heard of "its a mean to an end, not an end in itself ?" or basicaly "The end justify the means" ? To me, getting my beloved reward and play with it for months sure justify being bored mere hours to get it.
I'm all for improvement if people want to discuss them rather than "its bad don't do it or they'll make it worse".
I wouldn't mind seeing the last of Eureka early. It and Diadem have been by far the least fun aspects of the game for me, entering Eureka alone gives me a feeling of dread that I won't be getting a decent reward for the time I invest and I get bored very quickly and leave to do content that feels more engaging.
Until they work out the time put in:reward received ratio with Diadem and Eureka styled stuff it will remain content that isn't engaging or fun.

Hardly a "discussion" when your entire post is riddled with attitude, especially when you comically miss the point. No one said you shouldn't do Eureka if you value the relic enough. They simply said if you despise the content, doing it anyway tells the developers you can either be bribed or that it isn't all that bad. They typically use body count as an indication for whether something is successful. More so at this stage in development where they simply want to throw things out and hope it keeps people around while they focus on 5.0.
So go ahead, do the relic. And I mean that sincerely. Just don't be surprised the developers continue to ignore feedback when enough people share this attitude and nothing about Eureka changes.
I think that Pyros is a significant improvement over Pagos and takes us back to more of Anemos than anything. Pagos was too punishing and restrictive. Pyros feels like a good balance of decently-spawnable NMs under decent conditions (not 100x of whatever during a blizzard facing north while doing the Manderville).
I wish there were more glamour in Pyros. Where's my fuma set or a dyeable woad set???
Eureka - a series of zones set upon a lost island of scholarly magic in Eorzea.
Pros:
* Part of FFXIV, it has beauty.
* Relics weapons obtainable
* New zone designs
* Allowed for 144 people to cooperate, albeit in packs.
* Anemos had equipment and upgrades to work on in the process of it's grind.
Cons:
* Horrible latency and heavy hardware stress for anyone without a modern PC build.
* Glamour is nice, but to me it has never been a reward and (I know this is going to get me some grief) to make XI gear glamour only seems like such a low blow.
* Misused RNG in so many ways
* Pagos weapons only
* 1 zone each release, for a grand total of 3 zones.
* Copy and pasted enemies
* Pagos turned people against one another with regards to exp/light gain where anemos was about working together to kill NMs.
* Seemingly little thought and effort went into its balance or design.
* Weapon and gear becomes obsolete it pretty gets dropped on the floor, if not with a new patch then with an expansion.
I dont mind that yoshi-p wants us to discover what is part of eureka as a player base rather than just spoon feeding us all the details, however I'm a little disappointed in how he/they reacted when we didn't play their anemos the way they wanted just because they designed it wrong, like most I found anemos easy and somewhat enjoyable because the developers screwed up (choo choo). The grind wasn't as much of an issue, but then they proceeded to punish our earlier efforts with a combined time sink of what they originally planned for in anemos plus pagos in order to make up for the overall time sink design that relics traditionally have, it was extremely grueling in pagos without any other tangible reward(s) to show for it. Also where I've always taken issue with XIV is that if everyone can make a relic weapon it depreciates the value, for most in eureka the o-hat and cassie earring hold more prestige than any 4 relic weapons, to me this is just sad to even say much less bare witness too every person running around swinging relics. These are supposed to be the Best weapons in the game, but because this game has a steeeeep vertical progression they are now just weapons to melt down to add to the iron throne*coughs* excuse me, the iron hamster wheel that is progress.
Dynamis - a series of zones set in an alternate universe version of Vana'diel; created of Nightmares, set in perpetual Darkness.
Pros:
* 7 zones on release.
* Triggers for extended time
* Co-operation and sharing time required both teams and individuals to talk and share
* Currency dropped inside is marketable
* Lasting results - even after the vertical increase with abyssea and seekers of alduin, you could upgrade the equipment with effort, usually significantly easier depending on if you spent the time obtaining the original piece.
* Rewarded preparedness
* Made friends
* Thought was put into it's design and balance.
Cons:
* MONTHS of grinding for a single relic weapon
* Mostly copied and pasted content environment and enemies
* Little Skill required
I liked dynamis even though I wasn't new designs because it offered something for everyone who did it and a chance to help my Linkshell create a relic; it was a team effort to produce something extremely strong and useful. I have never really been one to want the very best of everything and it was my pleasure to help my linkshell make something awesome rather than want it for myself, not to mention equipment dropped inside dynamis and when equipment stopped being what I needed we started to divide the currency obtained inside with the option to sell back to the linkshell on the spot, making everyone's efforts still equal. Cooperation was far more important in every aspect. Relic weapons were just SO hard and SO good people wanted to help others get them for the sake of an entire guild/LS/company, to say "look what we created". I'm sure people will find more Pros and Cons for dynamis this just happens to be what I could think of at the time, and the Pros simply outweigh the Cons.
I wouldn't be so upset with SE if they didn't already have amazing design templates from XI within spitting distance, obviously the games are different they would have to adapt them but there is already so much more effort shown in those previous designs that the foreshadowing of XI still looms over XIV and it's why people like myself and others continue to mention it despite the hateful backlash it brings us. "Move on" they say, how can we when we see Palace of the Deep be such a hollow version of what we once new to be Nyzul, when Eureka and Diadem are such weak attempts at what dynamis succeeded in. All that we want (those of us still here from the XI days), is for yoshi's team to show at least the same amount of effort that tanaka's did, and have some balls to get off this hamster wheel they've made.
Do you have actual information on it and on how they think its a sucess ? I don't, last time I heard of it was weeks after anemos release. Back then yeah they were quite proud of it, telling their devs were so happy to go home to play some Eureka. But since then I don't have actual feedback about it.
Do you know what modification they did due to the feedback they had ? Do you have the number of active player in every eureka instances ? Do you know how many people actualy do it ? Do you know at wich number of player actively playing it its a succes for the team ? If you have any of this, please share so it can be discussed.
Yeah, sure people run after reward even when its not great content. wow big news, who could think of this when they put the reward behind less popular content since years. Oh does this mean they know its not popular and they want people to play it anyway cause it cost a lot of money ? Maybe.
Maybe they already know its a huge pile of dump and they try their best to make it bearable after the huge backlash Pagos was because they kinda have to release it anyway.
Maybe next expansion relic is already in the thinking with Eureka in consideration.
People hated Atma, people did their atma anyway. Guess what ?! We do farm atma-like logos crist' but they drop like hot bread. Maybe they consider the fact people hated atma because of how low drop rate was and tried another way of making a time sink of it anyway, maybe because they don't rely only on raw number, maybe because its a millions of dollar worth compagny who make video games since decades who know ?! Yeah its a lot of maybe, because I don't blatantly throw "Devs do this, devs do that" without solid evidence.
Do I like having to do thing I don't like for reward ? No. But if they continue its maybe because it work, you can be unhappy with it, I'm unhappy with it but until you can come up with a solution that can make everybody happy I'll stick with mine.
SE on the complaints about Eureka:
https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/...62/640/658.png
I’m not happy the new hairstyle is in Eureka but I’m sure RMT will be ecstatic with their decision to put it in there. I miss the days when I could log on and get new hair on patch days. It was easy and cheap character customization we could have that won’t cause their servers to go into nuclear meltdown, since we get that excuse when we ask them for just about anything else.
Anyway, please just burn Eureka already.
mas·och·ism
/ˈmasəˌkizəm,ˈmazəˌkizəm/
noun
the tendency to derive pleasure, especially sexual gratification, from one's own pain or humiliation.
- (in general use) the enjoyment of what appears to be painful or tiresome.
"isn't there some masochism involved in taking on this kind of project?"
I love eureka. but I think this new one is a little bit easy to level up. There is no the clallenge to slowly omproving and traveling further. Let's see how's the grind for a few relics :P
Someone make a thread: Please stop making Raids xD.
I love it too. So happy they changed up the formula for relic and I simply adore the open world stuff. Hit 42 today and have all the aethers... a bit too easy compared to Pagos. Tired of the standard tome grind formula with dungeons and so happy we don't need to run a zillion of those again for relic.
The fanbase was near unanimous in expressing disapproval of a 3rd ultimate. Between the people playing it and the audiences they get from streaming it, Ultimate is easily the most successful content added this expansion.
Meanwhile if SE said they were gonna throw the final Eureka in the bin and just boost the weapons to max level to compensate, there'd be near unanimous cheering.
Diadem has sucked all three times they've made it. It baffles the mind why they keep doubling down on it
They need to and get rid the logos system. So loose the skills when leave pyros even if they have never been used. What another let down from eureka.
The AFKers are again going to run into issues when the logograms are needed to get the fully upgraded relic.
I honestly hate that they can be sold on the MB because it's just going to promote more laziness.
I like the logos system
40% damage boost for tanks
Yes please
Try anemos to level 20, hate it, won't step a foot into Pyros
You are right. People do kinda need to test the content first to give an opinion about it but if you are still in Pyros, even after truly hating Eureka you are just giving the devs false numbers. I understand that people want certain items but there is a time where maybe one should stop and ask themselves if they are not helping the devs with that thus maybe even create more of such content in the future.
I was in Anemos for a few days, first to try it out but also for the T-Rex mount. Yet I also (after seeing how bad it was imo) I gave myself a dead line and that I would stop playing it at x day even if I still did not have a mount. Thankfully I got it but after that I set no foot in it again because I did not want to further give the devs more participation numbers..if we had questionnaire after doing it where we could give them our opinion about this, then this might have been different but in the end, if you dislike it that much and still do it then you give them reasons to do more, because not only might they believe that people like it but might see that putting huge amount of items behind it might be incentive enough, no matter how boring or repetitive the content is.
(On the other hand I can fully understand why people still do it and I have no ill feelings towards them. Because in the end its SEs fault that they are reading numbers that way and either ignore feedback on the forum or not give us any ingame way to give them feedback)
I’ve said this before in others threads and will say it again here.
I played Eureka maybe 7-8h in total when it first came out. Despised it, thought it was the dumbest/most boring content in ffxiv. Until this day never set foot inside it again, so never been in pagos and pyrus.
Now I don’t mind the content existing. If there are ppl that enjoy it, whatever I’m ok with that. BUT putting the relic behind it was a huge disappointment for me... I don’t mind some mounts or some glamour, some story, minions, fine. But the relic for me was a huge disrespect for the community... for what the relic has been in past patches of ffxiv.
For as much as Eureka was trying to provide "FFXI-like content" the FFXIV devs completely missed the point of what made that game great. Did you know that in XI, Samurai was never mean to DPS and Ninja was never meant to tank? It was the exact opposite! SAM was supposed to be the tank and NIN the DPS, but the playerbase wanted to hit things hard with their Great Katanas, and found out that blink tanking with Utsusemi super effective. And the FFXI devs, instead of screaming, "Nooooooooo! You have to play our game the way WE want you to play!" instead catered to the playerbase and started creating gear and abilities that allowed Ninjas to hold hate better, and Samurai to deal more damage.
When the FFXIV team found out Anemos became popular because of the NM train, they should have looked at that and designed future Eureka areas to cater to large group play. It doesn't matter what you intended, if your players are having fun with something then that's what you focus on!
The story doesn't really work here though. Ya,the NM trains ended up being the most effecient or rather easiest way to level, but if that's the case, why even have Eureka? The whole point of Eureka was so players didn't have to "FATE" grind and yet the moment they entered Eureka they FATE grind, because they know the reward ratio is best in those time based events. SE needed to add more life to Eureka, whether it be through Daily/Weekly content, heck even HUNTs, like a little bit of everything to showcase progression but all they did was have, kill mobs, chain, get xp, or do NM but you have to fight certain FATE NMs to progress relic, there was no additional path one could take.
While yes they added Bunnies to search for treasure in the 2nd Eureka, it didn't solve the issue they were having which was level progression and using Challenge logs as a means to curb the leveling process was the laziest way they could of gone about it.
They could of added Beastmen like dailies that players could do in Eureka with objectives that sent you to each area to complete to obtain XP and lootboxes along with crystals but they gated Crystals/Lootboxes behind FATE fights.
The whole "Solo" aspect to Eureka turned out to be a lie because nothing within the content says a player can solo their relic weapon which could of easily been done from day 1 with HW relic.
Basically, when SE saw that NMs were the main attraction to the Eureka experience, they should of realize they had made a horrible mistake and fixed the experience so players could do more rather than wait on timers to progress for relic.
Why is that whenever someone complains about Eureka, people instantly jump to saying we should get rid of Raids too. I honestly don't understand how these are even connected. Wasn't Eureka made to be the other option for people that didn't want to raid? Unless we'd rather want just Eureka and no raids for gear progression for 5.0.
Idk, I'm just confused by the leap in logic every time this happens. Eureka is its own stand-alone content and should be viewed as such.
They're comparing the %s of people clearing the content. Raids cater to, let's be broad here, <10% of the playerbase. Eureka ended up having that many people who enjoy it, maybe even people who partake in it. That's where people draw the parallels, ignoring completely the fact that raids are meant to cater to such a narrow niche, while Eureka, locking behind it the relic, was aimed at the vast majority of the playerbase. So when, say, 2% of the players clear Savage, that's a theoretical 100% of the intended demographic. When even, say, 20% clear Eureka, it's a horrible, disastrous failure. That's where that that comparison fails.
Had they added daily hunts, daily quests, a few side quests, to Eureka I think it would have been much better. Right now it is a grind and nothing else, it is as if you copied a Korean f2p mmorpg filled with grind and increased the grind.
After having ignored it for a long time I figured I should push myself through it in order to get the new hair, yes I was really looking forward to that hair since I love how it looks. 3h yesterday and it was the 3 most boring hours of my time in this game, it was mindless, or rather mind numbing, grind this, grind that.
Today I logged in, looked at the MB, decided that 20mil of my hard earned gil was worth it. Could I have waited until the price on the new hair was lower? Sure, but I wanted it now and with a house furnished the way I like I have nothing else to spend my gil on. Could I have gone back into Eureka and pushed through in order to get it on my own later on? I could but it would have most likely driven me to quit the game, to me Eureka is that boring.
It is not that the idea here is bad, the implementation on the other hand is.
Should this content have never been made? No, it should instead have been done better with daily activities to do like hunts and quests, more main quests should have been there along with some side quests, it would still be a grind of sort just not as bad a grind.
Should SE never do something like this again? If that means exactly like this then yes, they should not do this for the next expansion or ever again for that matter. This is content that should be aimed to everyone, not some part of the community that enjoy grinding. If SE actually looks at what is wrong and works to make the next version a fun thing to do, then by all means do make one in the next expansion just remember to make it fun.
