If there is one thing anyone can tell you it's that an MMO can not be viable with a leveling Curve that goes from go from Very fast to painstakingly slow. It spoils the player base. They get the feeling of monotony. IF the leveling curve drags to hard players lose interest. You have to keep is at a very slight curve or it break the game. Even if this game miraculously switches to a viable curve after 50 players will take offense to the inconsistency.
The way MMOs maintain a population is by making "End Game" content into regular content once there is a new end of the game. The "Average" player is always expected to be one End Game behind. This is because as the game progresses the Old End Game naturally becomes easier and viable for the Average player. The Average player always has something to look forward to, they never finish the game. New End Game content is designed to appease the Hardcore.
If however, every player gets to max level faster than content can be created, the Hardcore feel alienated by a lack of means to be the best and the average player feels like there is nothing to do regardless of whether or not they have completed all end game content. The Average player needs something to aspire to, the hardcore needs something to brag about. A broken leveling curve eliminates both of these situations.
Mmm, that is pretty subjective to your own experiences, though. Take WoW for example, the old way they did things was to do what you are explaining there, however they reached the height of their subscriber base around the time they changed things up and evened out the end game so everyone could be on it. Having to work on old content first was not fair to new players who really had no entry into the lowest tier of content because nearly nobody was doing it.
As for hardcore feeling alienated, there are always ways to appease them, we already see attempts at this in game now, with the timed chest in Darkhold and the hidden boss(es) in Toto'rak.
And I just want to point out, your point still falls flat, the content was simply outleveled, there was no reason at all to do it since it consumed too much time and offered so little reward when you could get new gear so easily in Abyssea. This is rather obvious, and leaving me to wonder if you actually played XI when Abyssea was released.
Sadly, everyone suffers from rested XP. This is namely because you start accumulating it immediately after logging out. If there was a delay in Gaining Rested XP such as you do not gain Any bonus for 36 after you log out, it would likely solve the problem in its entirety, but that's just not gonna happen.
ITT: Kiote pretends he developed all MMOs and backs his claims up with "facts". "Absolute facts" to be more precise.
"Suffering" is really ill-placed for something intended to help players who don't have much play time level up more quickly, I think the word you mean is "benefit".
Personally, I think they should just add an option to turn it off for those that feel insecure with it on.

A bonus that increases while you don't play is going to make people level faster?! By the Gods, that's going to make it where people that don't have time to play much can level just as much as the people that spend all day playing!

Basically, I expect rested Exp to be comparable to the Guardian aspect in potency, but with more flexibility. Maybe a bit stronger for really casual player, but then again, I really don't know.

It just amazes me, forums really are no different no matter which game you play. People will complain about everything they possibly can, and they will make up any excuse for it, no matter how silly or insignificant.
I swear, if SE gave us an in game item as a gift for supporting them, people would not only complain about the gift itself, they would complain about it being handed to them, despite it being a gift.

I actually do work on MMOs, and I actually do see the marketing data. I know how the whole process goes down, and I know what does and does not work.
The simple fact of the matter is that when you make an MMO to easy, people get bored and quit. Why do you think this game gets a week long population spike at every patch. It's not because they just want to see what got put in. It's because they do everything and stop playing. If you didn't notice, the largest drop in this games population, besides launch, occurred when PLing became rampant. It wasn't because people hated the PLing, it was because they finished everything in the game so fast they no longer had a reason to play.
The type of people drawn to these kind of games are the type seeking a long in depth game. Yes, that may not be you, but that makes you the minority. Just like people who play to do Large End game Raids are the minority. That is just how this genre works. Most people play the middle of the game forever. That's how you make money.

If you had taken the time to actually read this forum, you would have noticed that i am discussing Rested XP as it was implemented in every other MMO since it was thought up. You may be astonished to know that it has never changed.
That being said, I already stated, which you would also have found out by reading before you comment, that it is possible for this system to be different. That, however, does not mean that we should not discuss the flaws of a system and how they could possibly impact the system already in this game. That is, after all, why these forums exist.
There is a blatant flaw in the Standard Rested XP system when it is applied to FFXIV. That is the simple fact that we already receive far to much XP to maintain a decent leveling curve without the majority of player out leveling the game. There is no need for Bonus XP for a grind party in a Game that at Max level currently requires only 100 Kills to level.
I'm blown away by all the facts.

Now you are assuming what I have read or not, or understood or not, and these assumptions you make are the exact reason that I disagree with some of your points; that does not mean that I am attacking your argument as a whole.
I entirely agree with the bolded part. Now if you try to understand my point rather than trying to find reasons to discard my posts, you will notice that what I want to point out is that I don't see why people are assuming the worse, and yes, they do.
For instance, there is no reason to assume that such bonus will be more potent than the current guardian aspect, so no reason to assume that it will make leveling easier than it is now. Is current leveling too easy? That is a different problem. There is no reason to assume that it will be totally unbalanced and ruin the game.
I respect that you work in MMOs and appreciate your input, but do you think that the dev team has overlooked such basic aspects that you point out even tho you don't know the specifics? Don't forget that the game is being built for 2.0's content and playerbase, it will never deliver a satisfying amount of content to keep maxed players busy until that time.

You know, maybe this is just me being a Grammar Nazi, but I really can't take anyone seriously as any kind of halfway decent professional if they don't even know the difference between "to" and "too". The odd typo? Fine. But mistaking the two words, every single time, tells me that you failed at English, and hence, have communication skills too poor to make you a valuable asset to any business worth its salt.
In other news, rested experience kills all MMOs -- that's why WoW was so unpopular. Shit died after like a month. Why would FFXIV be stupid enough to take cues from such a failed product?

reiterating a couple points: not being punished for doing something is not the same thing as being rewarded for not doing it, rested exp is a system which allows less punishment for low playtime and does not have a directly negative impact on those with high playtime, the indirect potential impact on those with high play time is negated by the fluid and uninhibited nature of current content, it's not like a botched dynamis run or a failed KB camping will set you back days, at worst it'll cost you a few thousand in repairs; there is no "rested lrn2play" bonus
battlecraft classes are barely going to notice this unless they ninja in some rather extreme exp reforms at the same time, this will however make high level DoH and DoL leveling suck a bunch less given the craptastic nature of leves for each
Are you kidding me? In what way was XI not a grind fest? Did we play same game?
All you did in XI was grind to 75 ASAP because all the other content was unimportant and boring.
XI went through a phase where lvling was extremely boring and stupid (when it came out in NA). We had to go to places like Valley of Sorrows or Sky to level which in itself took about an hour. There parties averaged maybe 15k/h with 100k tnl or something like that. Leveling dint become actually OK till maybe TOAU. Do not even get me started about waiting around for 4 hours to find proper job setup.
Do you prefer exp fatigue for playing too much or exp bonus for playing too low? choose one :)
With what -little- we all know about XIV's iteration of "rested experience" I believe it's a fantastic idea. I won't knock it until I try it.
It amazes me every time I read this forum how so much of this community wants to sabotage this game.
Here's a newsflash for you. XI HD will never happen, if it did it would not succeed. There are people who play less than 12 hours a day, there's people who can play 2 hours a day or only on the weekends. They need rested exp.
Instead of supporting ideas like this that will attract wider diversity of users you guys shut it down. You cant compromise cant you? Instead it's "I want XI HD cuz it's gonna make tons of money if they redid it!" No it wont, nothing with "the glory days XI" will attract more than 100k subs.
This game needs another million players if you have any hope for a expansive endgame and content flowing. They need to cater to people who can play 2h a day first because those will be the majority. Not the 12k of players we got now.

I also find it fascinating that the people making the point "I play 8 hours a day and it's unfair that people playing 1 hour a day gets a bonus" almost all seem to miss the point. I completely agree that it's unfair, but what is unfair is that you have time to play the game 8 hours a day and I only have time to play 1 hour.
