Profanity filter or not the use of such language is still against the tos.

To the OP. There are definitely some bad mannered players her, but most players don't go immediately to sad behavior. Even if you though you were being neutral your language may not have been as you were obviously upset. Still report if you feel the need, but they research the event. Hopefully there are no skeletons in your closet so to speak.

It's absolutly impossible to take a side in this story because of that. So the best we can say to the OP is "yes, you can report them, but be sure that you are absolutly not accountable in terms of responsability in your altercation".

2) Confronting someone that didn't hold on a FATE is completly pointless. It won't solve anything. The FATE won't magically reappear because you now know why the FATE was completed without you despite your requests in chat. What if they didn't see? What if they just wanted to be jerks? What if that person was in a hurry? All of that doesn't matter at all unless you are trying to blacklist every rude person of your server because you have nothing else better to do with your time. But whatever the case, there was no point confronting them because there was no "situation" to solve in the first place. The best course of action would've been to simply move on and curse your own lack of luck.

1. Does not matter, the person being on the receiving end has a responsibility not to be toxic. Even if the OP said it in that way, the person that the OP should still get reported. 2 wrongs don't make a right, even if 3 lefts do.

2. So people can get an understanding to treat people better in the future? what a concept! Also fulfilling a curiosity why they did not do so. Is it really that hard to understand some people just like to know things for the sake of knowing?

To expand on what Ama_Hamanda said, us commenting on the behaviour is also irrelevant. Reporting should be the go to for this kind of thing regardless on context or how the OP behaved because from there it is at the GMs discretion as to what happens. By doing that, the OP has piece of mind, and the people at the fate will get whatever treatment from the GM that they deserve based on chatlogs that the GM will see.

1) If OP was the one starting the fight with what s/he first said, then there's a high chance that the GM won't do anything. Worse, it can even turn against the one filling the report. It wouldn't be the first time of it happening.
It all depends on what OP said first. But it seems that we won't get any screenshot anytime soon.

So, not only OP already acknowledges that confronting is an "offensive and bad thing", but for him/her it's also a way to solve a situation. Except, as I already said, there's no situation to solve. In short, confronting someone in that context can only achieve one of two things: do absolutly nothing, or start a fight.
If you still want to do it for the sake of satisying your own curiosity, while knowing it will have absolutly no positive impact on your situation, then be my guest. But don't come complaining afterwards because someone said bad words.

You would be best just to bow your head and move on, you are adding nothing to this conversation. He could of easily of avoided the situation altogether. I do like my idea though, grow a backbone (seriously, you get triggered over that particular word? Hate to see if someone called you much worse) and don't bother GM's with such petty trivial crap. I would still be VERY interested in seeing the chat log (with name blocked out of course). I believe the whole story is not being said here.

I appreciate though, the best thing you could reply to me was, repeating the TOS. You know, the majority of us know what it says and we just move on from people like that (or just don't care that they "could" be reported. Why would I want to waste my time, or the GM's, with this trivial stuff? I fall in that category). You seem like your ready any time of the day to start with people in game.

Like I said though, Just best to bow your head and move on at this point.

P.S. Majority of people aren't going to change their behavior because of you reporting them to the GM. Just an fyi for you.

IDK why people are still going on about this proof thing when the intention of this post was simply for peoples input on whats actually justifiable and not based on the TERMS OF SERVICE....you know the RULES of the game. This post is not about proof or sides or getting people on my side. So stop trying to make this about taking sides or seeing proof when that isn't even something that matters to me. It doesn't matter who started what. Breaking the rules is breaking the rules and whether both sides did wrong or just one side did wrong. Doing wrong is still not excusable and should have consequences either way. Because the rules dictate such. The rules are not a debatable thing, they are there and worded clearly so people know what and what not to do in the game. If you break them you get punished. Simple as that.

I didn't always get an actual answer. if you would take the time to actually read all the replies you would see some of them are not even about the main point or topic. They are about things that are not even relevant to the actual question. As others in this thread have said the context is just for insight. Not for an actual basis on answering the question itself. People instantly just start flaming and taking sides when this isn't even about such a thing. Please at-least try to comprehend the point in the context and question before answering, that way no one gets off topic from the main point of this discussion/question. Might i add i got my answer by page 2, and even so that does not mean just because i finally made up my mind that i cannot tune in and respond to the continuance of this thread and debate with anyone who see's things other ways. Just like now, I am now doing that, since you want to defend something nonexistent to start a never ending conversation. At the end of the day it is simply this, The OP has every right to contact a GM, as that reply breaks the ToS, If the TC broke the ToS themselves and the other person reported them as well, then they both get hit with something, that simple.

I absolutely would say this to anyone that reports someone for saying something "offensive" or "profane". In my humble opinion it has everything to do with whether someone should be reported or not. They should not be. If you have the inclination to report someone when they say something that hurts your delicate little sensitivities, then perhaps online games are not for you. I asked before, but what actual harm did these people do to you? (other than the whole FATE thing (which doesn't count))

For my opinion on this one..........well i don't need a wall of text to show my view on this as i can just say: What is wrong with someone being sensitive or wishing others would be more respectful and abide by the games rules. With your logic it sounds like if you were to run this game it would be a place full of poverty and jerks. Not everyone is like you and can take someones abuse or harassment. That is why there is GM's because this is reality and there are sensitive people whether you like it or not.

I mean, I agree to a point. Heck, I wish everyone I ran into in game and in life was super polite all the time. But that's just not how things work. My point is you're really better off just letting these things slide off your back rather than getting work up over them and wanting to report people for it. Etiquette rules in a game like this are not, nor should be, black and white. There is a ton of grey area involved, which is why context is soooo important.

I somewhat agree that context is important, however i think even so that doesn't excuse you from doing wrong. Doing wrong is doing wrong regardless the excuse. The report system is in the game so why not let a GM know when someone is doing wrong? If the system was useless or barely had any effect i doubt they would still be paying GM's to take care of peoples harassment issues. So surely just letting things slide all the time and letting people treat you like crud is not the way to go. I mean for example right now i feel a heck of a lot better knowing a GM probably told that guy to knock it off instead of just letting him get away with it. Maybe for some people its less stressful on them to just take the harassment, but there is also other people who would feel better with peace of mind that the bad guy got what he possibly deserved. Whether its less stressful or not on the victim to not report, no one should get away with treating others poorly.

That is not how the word works, and while we don't know better, it's entirely possible you were harassing the other guys quite as much as you feel they harassed you, in this specific case or in general in your interactions. Sticking with the argument "But it's against the ToS" that strictly sounds to me like a classic case of a person who only cares about the word of the law, not the spirit of it. I never once said that harassment only has one definition, that swearing is harassment. It's obvious to anyone that harassment can mean a number of things and is circumstantial. That doesn't really mean that swearing at someone isn't harassment. Just because i use the word in the way i did does not mean i'm ignorant to its other meanings or the flexibility of what harassment can be. A guy swore at me and called me names and if that offended me it can be defined as harassment. As for the whole spirit of the law thing, it's the same case saying that does not invalidate that the word of the law also means something and is clear and important. I mean if that were the case then judges would be judging purely on what their own moral views are and be biased about things. Instead we have it written on paper as well so we know there is a limit to what is excused by morality or whatever else and what is not. Spirit of the law or not, there is still a line you can't cross or you get in trouble. Even if it was about the spirit of the law in this case for giggles lets say i was a jerk to that guy from the start and instigated or harassed him first, that still does not excuse his swearing. As someone in this thread once said before, 2 wrongs don't make a right. Breaking the rules is still breaking the rules even if i were to start the fight or swear as well. The spirit of the law can only decide so much of an outcome, at some point it still falls down to "did they break the rules or not?"

I don't even know how to respond to this. I mean nowhere have i even once asked for justice in this forum from the community. I merely wanted to get input from others about what they thought was worth reporting or not. People know it gets outdated in expansions but not everyone does them for the same reasons. They are also very popular as glamour items, and also until said expansions release the relics are always relevant and useful as far as non-glamour reasons are concerned. Not to say that your whole reply is wrong, just that not everyone see's them as worthless even after expansions make them just glamour pieces. As for the salty thing, i doubt grinding relics makes you a salty person. I know plenty of nice people that have multiple finished relics. I think its more just encountering the wrong people who don't have good social skills or just plain aren't a good person.

You can report whoever you want. Whether it'll actually do anything or not is up to the GM.
