BLU for Duty Finder and Raids! Show your support!

Having played around with BLU, I really don’t feel like there is anything there that makes it so OP it couldn’t have just been a full job.

Yes it has some powerful tools like 1000 needles on anything pre-30 single target, but with restrictions in place as simple as a minimum equip levels or tweaks to mp cost/potencies it could have solved most of the problems.

I think it should not be in raids. SE made the right decision.

Exactly. BLU has its own endgame, just like crafting and gathering have their own endgame, etc. Nabiri and numerous others are insisting that the only endgame that counts is raiding, and they're ignoring that the game already has alternate endgames that lots of other players like.

I agree that how good BLU's endgame is remains to be seen, but just demanding that the mere fact that it's something other than raiding makes it automatically pointless is ridiculous. There are plenty of people who like FFXIV but don't like raiding (or simply want some variety and to have something else to do besides raiding once in a while). Those are the people BLU is for.

So if it isn't designed for the game then who does it cater to? Collectors? By that logic RDM, NIN, DRK and BRD shouldn't be in the game but they designed them into a proper setting where they fulfill their own roles in how they fit in an MMO, you look at BLU and it's all gimmicks that they could redesign but won't. It's not like other jobs because the keyword here is they didn't design it at all without any thinking or the impacts it would have on the actual game, yes it's fun right now because it's new but I played literally for 2 hours casually and i'm lvl 40 with 24 spells.

It's literally a collectathon class that isn't really anything new then playing FSH but instead of catching fish you get spells which most of them are pretty underpowered I solo'd Haukke Manor normal at lvl 32 and it wasn't fun or as interesting as playing an actual class. It was spam 1000 needles, White Wind, Bad Breath, rinse and repeat that's literally your rotation until you get the "premium" level 50 skills that have bad drop rates, still aren't as strong as other actual skills in game they're literally gonna be Carnival fodder where you use lightning spells on a dropsy target, nothing more nothing less.

And it's a shame too because the fun part is leveling but you reach it so fast without even thinking about it then you realize that the rest of the skills come from lvl 50 dungeons and EX trials that you have to hope RNG co-operates and that people will spam run it till you get it. BLU was a lost opportunity, it was fun but now that people are reaching lvl 50 very rapidly the effect is starting to kick in that people want more and wish it was more than just a collectathon mage and they could do more, don't get me wrong I'm having fun leveling but once that's over the fun is gonna die down for me after learning those abilities on the over world.

I see BLU as an opportunity for future jobs like Beastmaster and maybe a rework of the overworld.
We have a LIMITED overworld, easy and boring one. Maybe in future expansions with jobs like BLU and Beastmaster, we will get a chance to get a rework on that matter.

If you want to raid, you have 3 other casters. Why do we need a 4th one? Why do we need to destroy BLU's skills and turn it into a generic job with a generic rotation to fit it in raid? The actual combat system is quite boring and straightforward.

BLU offers something new and fun, so I'm happy with it and will keep deffend it :P

That's actually my only argument. We have seen legacy FF jobs squeezed into FFXIV system with various results (Summoner, Dark Knight are disappointing in that regard). If they simply just ignored Blue Mage, I could have felt frustrated. If they added it in the FFXIV combat system, with a unique rotation like all other jobs, I honestly think I would have been more disappointed than any other job, even if I would have given it a try.

But they found a third option, which is the most faithfull to the job itself. That's a position I understand and respect. I'm not saying the current BLM SMN RDM represent all that can be done regarding casting in FFXIV, but I don't think Blue would have added that much difference in the current job variety, while it is a nice touch to re-populate the overworld with these kind of initiatives.

I dont believe they will change their mind and make it level 80 for ShB just because people want it. I'm much more interested in them developing original jobs.

Even with the BLU change the overworld is indeed still boring it's just kill mobs > learn spells > level and repeat, Beastmaster could work too but why limit that as well? It could work as well by having different pets do different abilities depending on what pets you have, they'd have to retune the pet AI because look at Selene and Eos it's janky still.

This argument I don't get so far BLUs skills aren't even gamebreaking 1000 Needles isn't OP it makes the class function and allows you to cycle through Badbreath > 1000 Needles > Drill Arms, but even then you can just Swiftcast 1000 Needles again. So far it's rotation isn't really that different I'd say the oppose that it's worse than an actual class because these skills are so niche but nonetheless it is a rotation and actually feels worse than using RDM spells, at least with those it feels like you're playing a strong caster. So far having 24 spells I don't see what's so OP about these skills they could make an actual rotation for BLU without breaking it's class flavor.

And you should I'm not trying to change your mind I'm just giving my feedback with almost having the class max level within the first 2 days of its inception and I gotta say it's playing out exactly how I thought it would, at least for me. The leveling is fun, getting spells is fun, but that's it after 50 I won't have much of a reason to play BLU because I don't like RNG for spells, the Carnival will be fun the first time then I'll never touch it, we always ask for more in this game but I'm asking is this all we're getting? It doesn't matter if the skills are OP or not.

The point is that generic jobs have 24 only skills aprox, and BLU has 49 right now. 49 UNIQUE skills.


Now imagine BLU was a simple/generic job like the rest with 24 skills at level 70. On every new expansion, jobs get new skills and delete/fuse older ones. So at lv80 BLU, SE would delete some unique skills in order to fit new ones. This doesn't make any sense from the BLU perspective.

Now BLU has 49 skills. At level 60 it will have even more, and more at lv70 and so on, while the rest of generic jobs will LOSE skills in order to fit the new ones.

Why would you want that? Why would you want to lose unique skills just to fit the job into raid content? Why should I lose the skills I've learned? BLU doesn't work that way, and SE is trying to recpect the job.
Ofcourse I would like to play BLU into raid content, but that would need a complete rework into the combat system and that's dangerous at this point.


It's more reasonable to think that there can be new ways to play in the future. Ways to improve the overworld, so jobs like BLU and BST can fit into it, be useful etc... This is a new step and I hope they keep doing stuff like that, because I would like to see in the future new jobs like Beastmaster.

The problem isn't so much that BLU can't raid, it's that beyond the Carnival they can't do anything else.

Leaving Savage out of the equation, that still rules out the 24 Man raids, the Normal versions of the 8 Mans, any future Trials, PvP, Expert Roulette/future Dungeons and even the MSQ. BLU will eventually be allowed to participate in these (save for PvP and the MSQ), but from what we gather it'll never be on launch.

I speak for myself when I say I'd much rather have a different version of BLU if it means I can participate in all the game's content. I think BLU is fun for what it is, but as I'm slowly leveling it I can't shake the feeling of how pointless it feels to do so. Once I finish the collection game it is and finish the Carnival there isn't a reason for me to pick it up again; at least until the Carnival is updated in future patches.

Because most of them suck or are HIGHLY situational. I have like 25 or so skills on BLU and only use about 4 or 5 of them.

Every reason as to why they claimed BLU shouldn't be allowed to play in DF content at level 70 has been proven false within a day, good job Square.

Overpowered abilities? I count one, White Wind is bonkers, and that's it. 1k Needles drops off drastically as mob hp increases, and most other abilities are complete garbage. Bosses are immune to the majority of BLU shenanigans like Petrify and Sticky Tongue, rendering Yoshi's "hurr L5 Death in O12S lul" comment completely moot.

They might have no skills going into DF, yet you make specific abilities mandatory for the job quests? So you're saying you could lock job quests behind having a specific set of core abilities that are actually balanced around party play, and then open up the relevant DF options upon completion of job quest milestones? You can have that one for free SE. You're welcome.

They're designed as a solo experience, yet it's mandatory to go into instanced content with other players to learn certain abilities. That one is just ass backwards, and I highly doubt an i130 level 50 BLU is gonna be able to solo Shiva Extreme to gain her bow skill, let alone kill her before she enrages considering how garbage most skills are.

It's a complete mess, frankly. They've done it yet again, said one thing but done another. Either make it broken OP as you claimed and keep it limited, or balance it around party play and offer it as a complete job. Not this weird hybrid of garbage ass skills where 50% of them come from instances that you're probably not going to be able to effectively solo, despite that being the entire point of the job.

Why would I want to level BLM to lv70 if I already have SMN 70? I can raid as BLM, so SMN is useless, right? I can do the exact same content as BLM, so SMN is useless and there's no reason to level it up.
And why would I want to level Carpenter? I can't raid with it, so it's pointless, right?

BLU is just a different job, and just like you can't do endgame content as Botanist or Weaver, you can't do it as BLU as well, because it works different. But being different doesn't mean it cannot belong into this game.

The important point is that BLU would lose all it's meanings if it was a raid job with the actual combat system. So if you want BLU to be implemented into raid content, you should ask for a new combat system instead of destroying BLU.

Because BLM and SMN have different playstyles just like if BLU was a normal job it would have a different playstyle just like how RDM has a different playstyle from BLM and SMN.

And Carpenter is a CRAFTING job. not a BATTLE job. A crafting job is perfectly fine being side content as it's not the main focus of the game. Battling IS the main focus of the game as it is with any MMO.

I left out raiding earlier, and my point still stands: we still have a significant amount of content that BLU can't do.

A list of things every other Job can do, that EXCLUDES Savage raiding and Extreme Primals:

24 Mans, 8 Man Normal, Expert Roulette/level Cap Dungeons, PvP, Eureka (or Eureka equivalent), Deep Dungeons, Trials on release, the Main Story Quest, all content available in previous expansions (lvl 50/60 content).

And here's a list of things available for BLU:

The Masked Carnival, level 50 content


BLU is touted as a Battle Job, yet can't participate in any content past level 50. Carpenter was designed with a completely different experience in mind as a Crafting Job. And the level 50 content that you CAN participate in, BLU wasn't even designed to do in the first place.

And I have to note again, that you can't even do the MSQ with BLU. Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO with a notably fantastic story, with various dungeons and boss fights interwoven within it. I find it incredibly ironic that this Job they designed to be a solo experience, can't experience the largest piece of solo content on offer.

The EX primal drop rate on blue spells seems a bit low. Did about 50 runs of Garuda EX didn't get the spell.

Honestly they could have made it something that would make both sides happy. Instead of making it a limited job that is somehow more solo yet most of the higher skills are behind group content anyway..they could have made it so that the job quests (which are funny btw) gives you all the skills that you need for instances and maybe some low level ones too and the rest could be for overworld use and carnival only. Make it so that you get 90% of these skills from monsters on the map and you would have active maps too.

This way you can have all the fun of collecting the skills, use them for fun on overworld monster and have the carnival too while still being able to use it everywhere else. Win win for everyone. Blue would still be blue and they could even just say that it might never be the top place in raiding situations because of their skills but completely fine in everything else. And on top of that update the game so that any job cant queue for instances if they dont have all the skills they needed so that we are finally not stressed out with people that are missing their important parts of the job..

And lets not forget another important part of it: Glamour and items

Right now we have like three weapons and barely any glamour for gear. And I doubt we will get many more of them in the future. There are no new recipes so no new content for crafters and gatherers. No reason to get a blue relic in the future. There would be much more stuff to do just by having them as a normal job and giving them their unique weapons for fights..

Speaking of the overworld skills vs. instance skills, I have to say I was surprised by how few skills you actually need to get in the overworld. And even then many skills will have at least one dungeon variant, which would make your life easier because you don't have to fight half the server, be it for credit, or just to have them not kill the thing before the cast finished. So even those things you should've been able to do on your own, there's a lot of motivation to earn them from the party-content variation...

Not so different. Both have a fixed rotation that you must repeat endlessly on every single boss, because from their point of view it doesn't matter if the boss is water or fire; they'll do the exact same thing.

BLU was designed with a completely different experience in mind as a Battling Job. If you want to raid, you can pick up all the other jobs, just like you're not being FORCED to play as a crafter or gatherer.

Again, you can pick any other job. You need to complete the first part of the MSQ in order to unlock BLU, so what's the point anyways?

What the community tried to convince me BLU would be because it's limited: A varied interesting job with no fixed role or rotation.

What I got level 1-40: Cactus Mage

What I got 40-50: Rams Voice Mage

What I have at 50: A DPS with a Rotation just like any other dps with rng skills that don't work, and barely "Overpowered" DPS output

Note that it's entirely possible to have a proper job with access to all content without giving up all of those spells. Already, half of them exist purely for novelty purposes. It's almost difficult to find 24 spells that are worth setting.

That's all what the job is designed to do. Tons of people are having a lot of fun.
It's simply not for you, I'd guess like a lot of things in this game. Move on.

It's limited because we aren't allowed to access the DF with it. Pretty much the only thing I've been seeing to truthfully describe its limited status. I'm hoping BLU's in a beta of sorts. Otherwise I have no idea what they wanted to accomplish.

Which is exactly what I said the fun was finding the spells and messing around with them the fact that we won't have BLU with anymore spells until ShB and later in its patch days is pretty shoddy, I already stated that that was the fun for me you being an echo chamber doesn't change my opinion but you can't ignore how BLU is a collectathon rather than a job.

It'll just be another weekly do this for Allied Seals for the people that continue because you can't level, you can't do MSQ, you can roam around in the overworld and make premade parties for 50 content, it's why for myself, I don't see it having any longevity for myself if it was an actual beta test for the job to be a fully integrated job I wouldn't feel as cheated.

I had kinda hoped in the future blu was going to be a flex job since it learned offensive and defensive abilities from monsters. Replace the role of ranged or caster depending on what skills they chose from.

YoshiP has been VERY clear that we cannot have Blue Mage in Duty Finder because people would bully them for not having a certain spell and that's not fun or fair!

Indeed, precisely why the argument of "Bullying Blue" so as to close it off from parties doesn't hold water. Frankly, I'd rather have a Blue Mage spamming Water Cannon than some of the people I've grouped with, haha!

It's pretty fun, I still don't see why we couldn't have this AND a regular BLU but it's fun for the first couple of levels. Hoping it gets released as a full job at least, once I finish up the carnival I'll be mildly excited for the level cap raise.

I've had fun with Blu, but I'm beginning to wonder if the Limited status wasn't entirely so they could throw a new class out half-assed on a budget without any real testing and get away with it.

Blu simply wasn't tested or planned out. From the complete mess of the exp system and various exploits, including "whups we didn't think choco's would do that", "one-shot-switch-class" and "my non-Blu alt is getting Blu exp" to the number of useless skills to the fact it isn't solo at all despite claims it would be to the fact that earning lv50 skills involves having a lv70 carry you through EX a million times to 1000 needles being silly and so on.

I don't think they had a plan to accomplish. I don't see any. The entire gameplay revolves around cheating your way to 50/max skills via being carried by a lv70 then all you have left is the Carnival and a fairly mediocre lv50 mage dps to spam it with. I'm convinced Blu is an attempt to put no real work into a class and push it off as a finished product.

On top of that Blue has barely any glamour option..if we cant use it in dungeons and major parts of the game, we could have had at least some more glamour items for it to look cool in it. What we got are like three weapons because weapons are useless, and like two glamours? No craftable glamour or weapons at all.

That kinda screams laziness for me. Throw out a wanted job but not as a real job with some spells that are seemingly not even that powerful as the ones the monster use. And then since its not a real job you also dont need to care about providing much glamour or gear for it too. Update it a few times with some skills and maybe a few new stages of the carnival and thats it.

It could have been so much more and I fear that they might release more and more jobs to this concept..

But if we look at some other threads at least over 40 people seemingly see that job as a masterpiece..so the future will show if that masterpiece will stay relevant for long enough and fun for more than a few days and what SE takes from this. I fear its the: People play it, thus people love it-part and thus more of that stuff coming.

Blu simply wasn't tested or planned out. Basically, the purpose was to bring BLU in the middle of the actual combat system and try not to destroy it's true essence. So limiting the job was the only way to respect what a BLU is instead of releasing another generic job with few placebo skills. That's why we have BLU with 49 independent skills instead of 24 generic ones.

And yes, they balanced BLU, or at least for it's content; the Carnival. Who cares about killing overworld mobs/bosses right now, it's boring and easy anyways and it doesn't break the game.
The point is to improve it in the future and fit new limited jobs and, who knows, maybe they'll end up not being limited anymore (if they change the game mechanics a bit to fit a better overworld and a more interesting combat system).

And remember we'll get to lv60 BLU at the beginning of the expansion, and will keep increasing at late-expansion. That's something that people usually forgets.

49 skills out of which you can only equip 24 at a time. 49 skills out of which many are effectively the same skill with different elements because you need to be able to perform adequately in the Carnivale regardless of enemy elements. Skills that might actually hinder your progress in most content catered even for BLU like Final Sting and Self Destruct.

You're right we got worse than generic abilities we got very situational Carnival fodder moves and the rest are AoEs how intuitive I think the best spells (if you can call them "best") are probably Bad Breath, Song of Torment, Boost, Off-Guard, and White Wind wanna know why? Because they're actually useful even at lvl 50, which is why Song of Torment is lvl 50 since it's powerful DoT the rest are just stuns and sleeps and freezes etc that can't even combo off regular bosses which is why Carnival is sadly the only "endgame" when we were promised a solo job that was OP it's not.

I hit 50 today and I spent all day trying to get Primal Abilities as well as Dungeon ones why is there such terrible RNG? The guy who made Atma designed this and I already dreaded what was gonna happen, lo and behold it's more low % RNG while you AFK and 1 person solos the boss, brilliant gameplay. It didn't destroy it's essence but if this is what the future of BLU is not even the Carnival is gonna save it I did multiple fights and all you do is find the 3-5 abilities that'll cheese you through that fight and you move onto the next easy gimmicky fight, most of it was forgettable but it's okay we saved BLUs identity even though we have a low tiered-multi-useless collectathon mage thanks SE.

As for who cares about killing bosses and the like a lot of people got BLU being promised that we could solo things such as EX primals we can't we need parties it's almost like we have to do duties on a solo class GASP not to mention you have to get Mind Blast and Glower which don't always drop so thanks for that too SE. BLU is a trainwreck and we're the beta testers for it if they plan on revamping the combat they better nail it because if this is a sign to come from BLU it's not looking good for ShB.

At the very least you really can't fault people for thinking what they do about this, it's not like it's without basis in the developers' own statements
You could say that what they meant by it was "not suited for parties following the trinity role system", but then they should've said that instead of saying what they did. But then they threw in "yeah it's designed for solo play" and proceeded to lock half its kit behind Extreme primals.

The only thing this job is designed to do solo is the Masked Carnivale. Leveling doesn't really matter and skills you need a party for.

SE never said nor advertised them as being OP or that they could solo EX Primals, which is the part of your post I quoted and that you felt was promised.

Can you provide a quote where SE mentioned BLU is designed to be overpowered and capable of soloing EX primals? Because being felt promised something that was never promised is rather silly. Being upset that it was advertised as a solo play experience and having to group up for spells I can get behind that argument but to be upset that they aren't OP and can't solo Primals "as promised" when that was never promised....

The reveal video was a blue mage fighting Shiva solo and learning her bow move.

That was followed by a slide that said:

• Designed for solo play.
• Not suited for Parties.

They explained that they had made this decision because BLU is too tough to balance properly.

I mean, come on, if you can't see how all that is incredibly misleading then I don't know what to tell you.

I do recall Yoshi-P saying part of why they locked BLU out of matchmaking is because some of its skills would trivialize content with the infamous example of Level 5 Doom on the Omegas. So no, they didn't promise it in the explicit, direct way, but if BLU wasn't going to be this broken, why limit it so much in the first place?
But for what it's worth, it's also besides the point right now. Because the two things you said are actually one and the same. If I'm supposed to be able to get my skills solo, as is implied by it being a job designed for solo play, and my skills are locked behind Primals, then I should be OP compared to other jobs otherwise I won't be able to get my skills - this is the hidden, implied promise. But I can't solo that thing, I need to party up, ergo, I am not OP. So something along the way there got borked whichever way you twist it.
