I'm not sure what it is but as I've been leveling RDM I've been getting stuck in dungeons where healers don't heal me. If it was in like Sohm Al up, fine I'll take the DPS loss and heal myself. It never is though. I've straight up died because the healers don't bother healing me even though I'm right by them. They'll heal everyone else but won't even toss a regen or shield my way. It's honestly getting a little frustrating.

I got my first Heavensward Extreme Primal from Mentor Roulette this weekend, being dumped into a Bismark EX 5 minutes in progress. I joined just as they were finishing off the carapace of the first phase. The tanks were clearly both new, as when the two colored adds spawned, they each picked up the add matching their color. They kept them separated, but if you are hitting an add with the same color, it hastens the instant-wipe mechanic. We didn't even get one add down to 50% before wiping.

In the second attempt, both tanks attempted to tank the exact same add, leaving me, the WHM, to tank the other add. We actually did make it to the second phase on this run, but lost when both tanks, the other healer, and 3 of the 4 dps did not leave the whale's back. (The 4th dps survived, because they were not getting on the back in the first place).

In the final attempt, we lost our DRG in the first phase, as they tried to jump onto Bismark before it had been pulled to the island. I ended up tanking one of the colored adds in the transition, and then made sure to tell everyone when to get on and off the whale. We successfully killed it on the second tether, when I commanded the other melee DPS to LB for the kill.

Now then, how many of you remember the 8-bit Titan animation that SE put out a few years ago? In it, the DRG fell off the platform, and spent the entire fight dead, only to win the Nightmare mount in the end and immediately bail. Well, Bismark's birb dropped, and the DRG who spent the entire fight dead won the whistle, and immediately bailed the party.

Confused. The pally doesn't need to use Passage on the ultimate, healers can heal it with ease. That being said it's nice when they do.

Paladin OT is amazing right now. With sword oath on they are doing it right. What's the problem here?

In regards to this...back before Heavensward was released and I was farming the EX primal ponies, when I was going for Leviathan I had something similar. He was down to about 30% HP, but I got knocked off. Won the Levi pony when it dropped that run too.

So was running Expert Roulette with my brothers yesterday and we got Temple of the Fist. Ugh, I kind of dread getting this dungeon because of the following:

Our team was RDM (bro), SAM (bro), WHM (me), and PLD. Pop in, cast Protect, etc. Tank pulls everything up to the first wall. Now I don't mind this so much since the wall doesn't drop adds until it is destroyed. Depending on certain factors it can be a little weird to heal (DPS focuses wall over mobs for example) but it wasn't too bad this time. AoE spamming made quick work of everything and we cleared the wall. SAM was nearly dry of TP though but tank sprinted off and dragged everything to the second wall...

I seriously hate this pull. None of us are massively over leveled, and one of DPS was running low on TP. The issue was, also, I had barely any CDs left after the first pull... we ended up wiping when the tank took a shit ton of damage and I didn't have Bene or Tetra. I really hate this pull because the wall drops mobs as it takes damage. I think it drops like 9 or something total? So on top of already have a pile of trash that he pulled to the wall, we were adding more as we did AoE.

The thing about this pull is that I have never seen it go fast. It's also been a slow burn through the massive group of bodies. I don't personally think it achieves anything except push the healer and tank to their limit.

Whatevers we should be fine if we try again, or maybe pull anlittle slower, right? Nope, tank instantly left. I was like "wtf? Seriously?" Yeah, I don't get why tanks do that but... then my brother (SAM) pointed out that the tank had used Intervention on a mob (he had it macroed so it told us who he targeted)... So we ended up wondering if the yank left due to salt or shame. Maybe he thought we would tell at him for pulling so big?

Well whatever the reason we decided that while we waited for the replacement tank we would see how far we could go with just the three of us. We pulled one group at a time and eventually made it to the boss. We attempted the boss, and almost got it, but we ended up wiping (i think i screwed up, cant remember though). After that we just left the instance, since it would just be quicker to requeue.

Came back from a 3 month break after convincing myself I'm able to drop the money for Stormblood (which I'll be getting on Friday, woo). In the meantime, friend gave me the free week and I got my extra 15 days, and am toying with an alt to refamiliarise myself with the game before I go back to my main gal here.

I had a weird run today with said alt while doing levelling roulette as a BLM. Had one of those prima donna tanks that nobody likes, who got into a tizzy because the melee DPS accidentally facepulled a pack. And then proceeded to do the usual things one expects of such a tank, like deciding they weren't going to help anymore because the DPS in question did not apologise and/or worship the ground they walked on.

The weird part? It was Sastasha normal. Why on earth would you try to hold the group hostage in a dungeon where you literally do not require a tank to finish with ease?

The guy kept at it through the stretch of trash leading up to the Couerl and clearly wasn't happy with our decision to ignore his tantrums and go on without him. We ended up booting him as he elected to lock himself out of the second boss fight on purpose. Got a DRK replacement who mass pulled the rest of the place for speedy AoE clear.

Fortunately you can have a total control of this first pull you hate so much as both DPS are your bros. Since DPS don't benefit from AoEing packs of less than 5 targets, you could ask your bros to ignore the wall until the first mobs are dead. The Tank alone will not be able to destroy the wall by the time both tigers are dead anyway.

It should save you a headache :/

Oh, yeah in that current situation it was fine. I don't always run it with my brothers though, and I've had a few runs where the DPS focus the wall first and I'm like "???".

It's a bit harder on the second pull though, as it's sometimes hard to keep your AoE attacks from hitting the wall, and it drops Mosslings just from taking damage.

Well, maybe I went too far with the absolutes. At 3 I would do a mix between single target and AoE. But I wouldn't go full AoE unless 5 or more.

I tend to AoE on 3+ but when it drops to 2, I single target(if a caster, for melee I go AoE until I use Invigorate then go to single target if there are still a few with lots of health since low TP)

If you weren't taking a penalty, does that mean you held the party hostage until they kicked you?

...and please. No given role is special. We are all easily replaced.

Always aoe with 3 or more for best gains, but its minimal so sometimes I don't. 4+ you should be AOEing regardless of class and at 5+ if you aren't AOEing it makes me quite salty.

Today I queued for a mentor roulette as a tank and got Temple of Qarn in progress. They had reached the first boss and clearly had wiped, and that was where the tank had left. SMN dps was in the middle of asking if everyone knew to stand on the panels to cleanse doom when the SAM, a sprout, wandered too close to the boss and pulled.

In we go! Then we wiped again, as everyone but me and the SMN died to doom. The SMN dc'd, and I thought long and hard about whether I wanted to drop after we kicked them. It was early, I didn't get good sleep, I was tired. We dismissed the SMN at last and re-filled with a MNK.

As they were on the way, the sprout healer and SAM chatted a bit about how they learn by doing, the SAM admitted that they'd taken a jump potion (they had the Darkest Shadow title) but they still try to look up guides and tips whenever they can. I referred them to some pocket and video guide resources and they said they'd check it out.

I explained the doom panels more carefully and off we go. This time we had no issues.

As we went through Qarn I noticed other little performance things that a new player wouldn't know, so I started giving the SAM tips. I marked mobs, I explained they generally ought to let the tank go in front, etc. And by the end of the dungeon there was a lot of improvement. Made me happy that I stayed and did my best, they could have gotten another tank who was just as impatient as the first and left them at that second wipe.

I'm curious as to how long it takes a RDM and SAM to burn through that pull, because as BLM I've always been able to take it down relatively quickly.

Depends on how fast things are dying. If you're a tank, PLD has an AOE DoT (Circle of Scorn), so you should use it, as its recast timer is short at 25s. AOE's that do not have DoT effects are not worth the time cost otherwise. On WHM, Aero III has the same cast and recast time as everything else, so it should be used on anything that isn't dying in 30 seconds.

On bosses it doesn't matter, cast everything that casts a DoT.

DPS AOE's typically have longer cast/recast times at lower potencies than the single-target attacks, that is why an AOE with a potency of 100 needs 3 mobs to be "worth" using over a single target attack with a potency of 100+. BLM's Flare and Freeze AOE's have long cast times, so two single target attacks puts out more damage than using the AOE on one target. So by most calculations an AOE without a DoT is not efficient until there are 3 or enemy targets.

Also all of this goes out the window for PotD. Cast your fastest single-target things one mob at a time unless surrounded/luring trapped. You often do not get a chance to cast anything that takes longer than 3 seconds.

Sadly, I've seen TONS of people saying you should never use that when there is anything less than 3 it's a waste. Considering it takes a half second to use, and doesn't break any rotation, I use it every chance I get. Might not be a lot of damage, but damage is damage.

Well, considering, the SAM was low on TP? And it's not really the length of the fight that screwed us this time. It was the impatience of the tank.

Also last I checked BLM has much better AoE than a RDM. And again I don't always run with a RDM/SAM, and I have never seen either pull go quickly. Then again I don't think I've ever run Temple of the Fist with a BLM.

if all play their job correctly, it's nearly the same, there's maybe a difference of 10-20 seconds, but if most sam/rdm/blm don't know how to play their job, this pull can take a massive long time.

Is it annoying if a tank takes off immidiatly? Yes, it is.
But its also annoying to wait for little Miss Healer to take her drink and sort out her cross class spells at the start of a dungeon - my assumption as tank will always be: If someone was able to hit "commence" a few seconds ago, they're ready now. And if a healer doesnt cast protect right away, my guess is they dont want to do it at all.

Instead of getting all aggressive and hostile (from what you've shown here so far that seems to be your style though...), learn to adapt and realise that you're playing in a group where you arent more important than the rest of the people. Crossclass skills can be sorted out on the way - even in battle now! - and the same goes for having that drink. Making everyone wait at the start of a dungeon until you're finally ready (something that you actually confirmed by entering the dungeon) and being so rude and hostile about it wont earn you much sympathy - neither in game nor on the forums. But I kinda doubt you care...

Oh I hate when tanks do that, because they think that you might be under geared, new to the dungeon, or in general don't want to stress the healer out. I appreciate it guys, but a healer is not that special, or need to be wrapped into some cotton, we can handle ourselves.

If I wanted you to slow down, I am going to tell you, or ask for changes in general. I don't need you to decide for me, if you should be pulling very slowly because of your broken assumption or because you don't want to make me mad. Srsly, if I queue as healer, please give me the full drama right at the start, don't give me special treatment, it makes it feel very awkward.

And to that person that thought holding up the group for 10 minutes, because the tank didn't waited for him/her to cast protect. Trust me if you were in my group, you would have left after 2 minutes by yourself, and gladly taken the penalty, there's a lot of things groups can do, when dealing with special cases like you :D The kick button would only be the easiest/quickest way out of that, nobody needs to wait for that.

This makes no sense. If you are AoEing you are bound to hit the wall, especially since most AoE is a circle. Also there are no Tigers, they are Coeurl, and if the Tank is pulling all the mobs to the wall the wall is going to take damage and drop mosslings as it does.

Communication is a two-way process. The other person was asking a very simple question which you could've just answered. When you tell someone to figure it (because in your mind it's such a simple answer), it comes across as passive aggressive with a lot of implications.

After leveling my DRG to 70 and now getting my SAM up to 63, I have slowly come to realize that some tanks are not aware of the conal nature of some AOEs. There is nothing more frustating to have the tank encircled evenly with a pack of mobs and me and any other conal-aoe job only being able to hit half of them at a time. I haven't noticed this behavior a lot before but now I see it almost every DF dungeon (possibly because now you can parry and block from flank and rear?!?!?). If you're a tank and did not realize our pain, please please group them up tighter, like a virgin.

Vote kicked someone from floor 95 in potd. He would afk at the cairn as soon as we got to the next floor and not do anything. So after the kick went through, his buddy decided to pull eveything on the next floor to try and wipe us, he failed miserably and it was hilarious. Somehow I'm the bad guy for voting to kick the afk people though.

Unfortunately, for a good many packs, especially large, dense ones, this isn't as doable. Think of the dog pack in Ala Mhigo. The adds, naturally want to spread out a bit. This is what will cause tanks to kind of jitter and move the mobs around, to corral them tight, but there will still be some drift apart, and that's something that no tank can help. Now, for regular 3- to 5- add packs, yes, it's better not only for the tank but the DPS to group them in front of the tank (tanks lose parry when attacked from flanks and behind, I think), but keep in mind that larger pulls will tend to drift apart naturally.

Yeah I totally understand the mobs which don't clip inside each other but this is for all mobs. Also, blocks and parries are no longer limited to attacks from the front so my guess is that tanks just don't give a f anymore lol.

Or they were never taught to make sure the backs of the mobs(as much as possible) are faced towards the party. That, and a lot of people running past the tank(healers/ranged DPS quite a bit last night did this to me on my PLD) and attack/heal from there.

Honestly, the only other thing I can think of is faking a d/c? That is still more or less forcing the party to kick you though.

It has nothing to do with ego. I have also had tanks run off on me and nearly get killed. If they say something I will say something back about them running off. What I do NOT do is sit down and pout until they remove me. If I feel insulted, I can leave and report them... sulking accomplishes nothing, and fwiw holding parties hostage is an actionable offense.

You may want to look in the mirror a bit about the ego part though, since you seem to be the one that is thinking quite highly of yourself.

Can I ask for clarity since you deleted your original post?

What specifically happened? Because if it is over protect that I'm lead to believe, I think you have a worse temper than I do.

I just had a tank in the royal menagerie who kept pulling immediately as soon as the shield was down. Didn't give us a warning, didn't wait for protect, didn't wait for shields, didn't like me the SCH or the SMN get our pets out

Not THE bad guy, but rather *a* bad guy... or not even really... "not a good guy" would be more accurate.

1) That's great that you got a drink at the beginning so you wouldn't have to in the middle, HOWEVER, you should have gotten your drink before you queued.
2) You should have left the dungeon. Does it suck to take a penalty when you feel you did nothing wrong? Sure, but unfortunately that is the legit option.

No, I'm actaully not. But I am the type of person whos able to accomodate to other people around me.
Having a drink is indeed a totally human thing to do but priotizing something like that over a group-effort? Yeah, no. Its something that can easly be adjusted or, shocking, I know: wait til after the dungeon. If you cant wait 2 minutes (to have that drink during downtime in the dungeon) or 20 minutes (til the dungeon is finished) you're placing yourself in serious danger of dehydration it seems to me. Please take better care of yourself in that case - and dont hold out with having a glass of water until you enter a dungeon :) A normal, healthy human being can go 20 minutes without drinking. Please note that I'm not saying to neglect your health over a videogame but as always in life there are good and bad times for things. Having that drink during the "sensible time" at the start of a dungeon instead of 2 minutes before, 2 minutes later or enjoying a cup of lovely tea right after seems rather shortsighted and self-centered to me.

You've made a very wrong assumption about my personality there - I'm actually the person who hates to make other people wait for me, because I dont feel I'm entiteled to do that. We're four (or maybe seven) people in that content. We all confirmed we were ready when we entered the dungeon. Is that moment, when everyone said "Hey, I'm ready to do this!" really the time to be like "yeah, you know what? I guess I'm not ready after all - suddenly I'm SO thirsty I need to have a glass of water right NOW!"
Same with cross class skills, really - I was leveling scholar lately and protect only gets sloted in at the start of a dungeon. I got so mad at myself each time I forgot to do that before the dungeon started (something I could have very easly done after all) and had to do it in the dungeon, making everyone wait for me.

After all: Dungeons are always a group-effort. That tanks behaviour might not have been the best but neither has yours. And the attitude you're showing here only makes me happy that we dont share a data-center... you werent "beaten" or anything - the tank just wasnt patiented enough to wait until you were finally done with all the stuff you should have done before you entered the dungeon. Because thats the point here: you werent getting that drink before you were healing the group through the dungeon - that would have been: Drinking a glass of water, then accepting the duty (or, as healer: drinking, then queueing). You decided to have that drink at the start of the duty when everyone rightfully expected you to be ready.

Personally I expect everyone but specially tanks and healers (thanks to our insta-queues) to be ready at the start of a dungeon to immidiatly run that dungeon - everything else: Bathroom break, glass of water, smoke (please dont ;_;), food, feeding the cat... should have been taken care of before. If you commit to run a dungeon, I expect you to have done your best to make sure that you'll fully available during the next 20-30 minutes. Sure, "emergencies" happen, maybe a real one, maybe just someone at the door. No problem at all! But everything you can take care of - including glasses of water and sorting out skills - should be done before.
If it makes me a jerk that I expect you to do your stuff on your time and not on group-time... so be it.

It sucks that the tank left without checking. It's very rude because like you said, maybe you need to do things (maybe not get a drink, could have done that before queuing), but checking cross class skills, or what if you were a person whose computer takes a little longer to load. That tank should have waited at least a few seconds. I don't know if the DPS in your party really deserved to have their run delayed because of one inconsiderate tank, but I guess they should have stuck up for you as well.

So I'm totally with you that the tank was rude.

However, you really didn't need to tell that person earlier to just think about it when he was asking a legitimate and non-insulting question. It's not obvious to him (I know I'm still not sure what you meant by it.) and you do seem to be very quick to throw words like "idiots" and "ignorant".

Typically when people are quick to throw insults, it's either because they themselves are ignorant, or they're just really upset. I'm hoping for you it's the latter. Calm down for an hour or two, then come back and reread everyone's posts and try to see it from their point of view. It's ok to disagree, but there's really no need to jump at insults.

1. Not sure what world you live in where people are rude for expecting people to be ready that said they were ready (by clicking to enter the dungeon), but not rude to expect that they should somehow instinctively know that you weren't actually ready.

I take back what I said about not being "a bad guy"... you are making it pretty evident that you probably were.

I don't support the tank's rudeness, but that does not mean I automatically support you.
