Predictions for job(s) in the next expansion?

Let's see... Considering what we know... something around Zero.
They clearly said it was going to be a melee DPS using maiming Armor (dragoon) and there would be 2 jobs this expansion. We already know Sage, the other is the mysterious one.

However they haven't spent resources to create a job like BLU, those resources are probably going into the job actions.
But it's not impossible they add a new job like Ninja during the patches but I highly doubt it.

I wouldn't rely on a pattern. They add job on what role needs the most a new job.
Gunbreaker was added to bring balance to tanks and avoid one getting always let down.
For ShB many expected DNC to be a healer job, but the argument behind making it a ranged is that AST was balancing between shield and regen and there was only 2 rangeds.

Now as to why they add a 5th melee, probably just so there was another job sharing gear with DRG.
They also mentionned a lot of the playerbase plays DPS, which is why we got many DPS jobs.

Having a job added post launch would be pretty hype, not gonna lie.
Especially if it's tied in some event in the MSQ, kind of like Yugiri and the Doman refugee tied in Ninja if I recall.
Could be a tease for where the story will go for 7.0

They once answered that Ninja took a toll on the development team and said they wouldn't do it anymore...
Until BLU was created and the limited aspect caused an uproar.

Next to DNC being ranged, new races limited on the gender, it wasn't a good year for announcements on both sides.
Which could be the reason why Reaper is heavily hinted.

About this - IF I remember well - they added a 5th Melee because they divided DPS Jobs as the ones which do damage in Melee range and the ones which do damage from Distance (for how to choose which category to add on the DPS party).
Meaning that they had 4 Melee Jobs and 6 "Ranged" Jobs.

I'm not sure how "Reaper" by itself would be hyping, not like it's a job with some history or implication behind it like DRK etc. It can be very cool and have a great lore of course. But on a pure "announcement effect" Reaper is pretty..."meh".
Unless you cater to the pure edge factor and all.

At the same time the dev team is quite fond of predictable patterns when it comes to adding content so we will see.

Anyway, I just remembered that the word hussar is already on maiming gear in the game. Kind of interesting that we have maiming gear that references real world cavalry units that were fond of death imagery while the only other two classes that use maiming gear (lancer, dragoon) are also named after real world cavalry units.

It is not going to be a mounted class anymore then lancer and dragoon are mounted classes. Lancer and dragoon are both named after types of real world cavalry units and they are not mounted. I am just saying the naming convention matches the other classes that use maiming gear (named after types of cavalry), it is a name already on maiming gear in the game and hussar units in the real world were fond of death imagery.

Well, most jobs have ties to a military force (hence why there is a lot of soul crystals).
Black Mages were also an elite military force, Scholars were tactical officers, Ninja are scouts/secret services, Samurai do I even need to explain ?, Bards were supporting rear guards, Machinist is litteraly a new unit in Ishgard's army, Red Mages were what came from the ashes of BLM and WHM when they needed new mages to fight...
So yeah, a tie to a military force is expected, wether it's a died out one (Scholar, Gunbreakers...) from a past civilisation or an active one (Dragoons, Paladins...)from Thavnair or Sharlayan we shall see.

It's the whole thing, jobs are indeed based on a military elite.
We know Ran'jit was a military man and his father was also a soldier with the same kind of pet.

But a job based on Norvrandt culture with only Golbez and his shadow dragon as a previous existing "job"?
Best would be a frontline unit from Sharlaya using heavy armors which would be rune knight.

A Reaper needs a mentor just to give the quest, or at the minimum a quest giver. So it has to be a job that isn't unique to the WoL.

We could stretch to the familiar being the teacher. Kind of the lvl 50 DRK questline in a way. Or do something like the summoner and the living book.

Indeed, about the only class that doesn't have an origin with or official ties to a nation's military on the Source is Dancer. Odds are real high that this class comes from an elite military unit belonging to a nation we are about to visit. Thavnair, Sharlayan and Garlemald are the three top contenders. Personally I lean towards Garlemald because the Garlean Army has already shown itself to be fond of both the term Reaper and of death imagery in general.

Come to think of it, there is a class from a previous Final Fantasy game tied to the Reaper magitek armor. Magitek Elite, Terra Branford's class from Final Fantasy VI; she rode around in that armor and used it in battle. FFVI's promotional artwork often showed her riding around in said armor. She was also a soldier in the Gestahlian Empire which the Garlean Empire is based on. Yoshida even used her to showcase the in-game Reaper magitek armor a few years back.

True that for Dancer all we know (well, haven't done the questline so I may miss stuff) is that it's a martial art for performers to defend themselves with. Might have similar origins to Bard.

Also yeah, a Terra job could be fun. Though she kind of is a catch all. She can use most magic, melee weapons, any armor type, summons...

If they were making a Magitek Elite class most likely they would just simply use the abilities of Garlean elite troops as a base and expand on it. They might already be doing that since in the last two years we have gotten a lot of elite Garlean troops in duties as both allies and enemies. We got Gaius as an allied NPC in duty twice. We got Vitus quo Messalla in the Gunbreaker quest line. Varis yae Galvus in Memoria Misera and Memoria Misera Extreme. It looks like a lot more work has gone into expanding and overhauling the abilities Garlean magitek soldiers then went into Ranjit.

i doubt we will get a job from garlemald since they cant manipulate aether, if anything we would be likely to get a job from ilsabard in general. And Sage has very sharlayan feel to it so its less likely we get another one thats from there.

Thancred can't manipulate aether either; he still showcased a new job in the Shadowbringers trailer. And some of the Garlean troops we have been encountering in these duties can manipulate aether. Case in point, Vitus quo Messalla from the Gunbreaker duty is a Duskwight Elezen and he showcased several new Garlean gunblade attacks.

I heard that Terra's job title in JP could also translate to Magic Knight. Which makes more sense for her obviously.

Speaking of Terra, we don't really have anything in game yet that references Terra/Zidane's trances from FFVI/IX respectively. There's also the broader theme of shapeshifting, if you wanted to reference Vincent from FFVII.

My original thought like months ago was that we could get morpher as a job in the game by doing the same thing ranjit does. I believe there is a thread that someone started months ago that had this exact thought as you. I would be way down for morpher if it let us have some cosmetic pet that fights with you that we fuse with. (I like the concept of morpher a lot XD) if I find the thread I'll post it

The pattern is not what you think it is.

Heavensward: "Let's add one of everything"
Stormblood: "We can't balance the tanks and healers we currently have, so we're just going to add DDs."
Shadowbringers: "The tanks and healers are mad, but we definitely can't balance the healers still, so we'll just add one tank and one DD."
Endwalker: "The healers are out for blood; we have to add a new healer and we have to find a way to make it work (divide them into regen healers and shield healers)".

Don't expect another tank or healer any time soon. Maybe, big maybe, they'll make a tank fit into 8.0. There's no way they'd add another as early as 7.0. And this of course assumes that they'll continue to add jobs. Which they could just decide to stop doing as of 7.0 or 8.0.

Pattern is easy to read actually. 4th healer to stay in balance with 4 tanks. And a melee DPS to balance out the roster since it's currently 8 melee and 10 ranged. If you add the 2 classes you have 9 melee and 11 ranged.

And if you are a stick in the mud and hate BLU you can argue that there are going to be 9 melee and 10 ranged and 1 limited.

And that's 20 job classes. Game has come quite far.

When I think of what Necromancer can do, all I can imagine is summoner whacking someone with a scythe and that is how it gets dots. Maybe it has temp pets, perhaps voidsent, similar to machinist through resource spending and how it has machine pets.

So easy to read that everyone expected Samurai to be a tank and most were upset about having 2 DPS.
So easy to read that for ShB everyone thought there was going to be a new healer since there was no new healer since HW.
So easy to read that for EW, everyone thought the next DPS would be a caster because ShB brought a physical ranged and there's only 3 casters.

The 4th healer is not brought to stay in balance with 4 tanks, those roles have nothing in common.
The 4th tank WAS to keep in balance the 4th tank and avoid one being the "worst tank" like in HW where PLD was a joke and in SB it was DRK who was ridiculed.

The new healer is here because the community was upset about not having a healer for so long.
They add on the go, on the feeling and the need, not on a pattern.

These sub-roles are completely arbitrary and are just a flimsy excuse to justify the numbers and make them seem "balanced". There will always be more DPS jobs than tanks and healers because that's what the bulk of the playerbase plays. There will always be more ranged than melee. Not because ranged comes in both physical and magical flavours and these numbers need to be "balanced out", but because it's more comfortable for most people than tryharding up close where the bulk of the AoEs and mechanics happen.

Endwalker is introducing two subtypes of healers, and unlike the various DPS sub-sub-roles, this is supposedly going to have a much bigger impact on fight design and party balance. Do you think for a second that they're going to fill the ranks with two more shield healers and two more pure healers before adding more DPS jobs, just for the sake of balancing out these fictitious subroles? No, because that is not where the sub money is at. There would be no investment in either tanks or healers if not for the fact that they're essential to keep queue times manageable.

Endwalker will not be: Evil is bad and Light is good. But rather something in between, a reaper class is completly against that,
( like Zenos having a scythe to bring chaos make sense but not for us anymore ).

Getting a heavy armor with scythe is kind of a real huge challenge... Because it doesn't match, and even so, to make the class happealing is a big deal !
It is also "maybe" too close to Dark Knight.

Personaly i'm still sticking with my "completly out of the way class": Judge type class weilding maybe two sword or something like that representing duality.
Yeah i know : p Maybe i'm too doubtful about the whole Reaper thing but i can't unseen the troll for the announcement !

Also, the shirt Yoshi-P wore when announcing that the next job was a melee DPS was the "No Comment" shirt.
The Filth&Fury one was on announcing Sage.
Scythe ones were on other segments.

Dunno what those metal bands could hint at: melee bard ? Are we going to play a Roadie ? With an axe and a guitar ? Summoning the Ohrmagodden to buff our attacks ? xD

Well, metal music has something of a love affair with military history and warfare in general. Which would tie into what we were talking about earlier about how the overwhelming majority of classes in the game are tied to some nation's army. Examples of it are not that hard to come by:

A "Reaper" class wouldn't exactly be against that since as we can see with Emet-selch using the underworld as a power source isn't exactly an evil thing to do. Plus even then there are different ways that you can have spirits help you fight, like a shaman for example.

If that's the case Dragoon should not be as agile as it is. All those flips and jumps and such should not be possible. The secret is that while the armor is heavy armor its material makes it feel light so the wearer is able to be more agile so thats not a big problem. And no it wouldn't be too close to dark knight.

It could still use a scythe and not be a 'reaper'. But by using a scythe it still has that 'reaper' imagery for Zenos.
Just as when Zenos was a Samurai, it didn't mean Samurai was an evil class.

That's already tied to Gunbreaker though, unless the melee class also used a gunblade as a weapon which is a possibility. Vitus quo Messalla did have some attacks that kind of referenced heavy metal music like Industrial Force and a couple of attacks that referenced death and reaping like Culling Blade, To the Slaughter and Exsanguination. He is also leading a military unit called Alaudae; which is a reference to the Legio V Alaudae, one of the Roman legions founded by Gaius Julius Caesar. His name is also kind of interesting since it means Life of Messana; Messana, or Messina, is an Italian city that was home to one of the first outbreaks of the Black Death in Europe. And he is wearing Chromite Armor which is a level 70 fending-maiming set. He is also an NPC we fight in the Gunbreaker questline meaning he is tied to Gunnhildr, albeit indirectly.

So he is kind of checking several boxes at once: heavy metal references, death references, reaper references, elite soldier, fights and moves like a heavy armored DPS, etc...

Well, the Blades of Gunnhildr aren't all gunbreaker and Gunnhildr herself uses a "normal" sword.

And yeah Vitus had a pretty rad sword...

As another possibility, the two biggest NPCs tied directly to Gunnhildr in the game are Misija Votyasch (machinist and Garlean soldier) and Noah van Gabranth (Garlean general and Judge).

Honestly I think Judge is pretty likely. Gabranth is (in my knowledge) crazy popular, and we'll finally see his 14's version in action at the next patch, after the reveal of the new job.
Kind of like when we met Gosetsu after the Samurai reveal ya know.

I think Judge is very likely too but going back to Vitus quo Messalla for a bit I find it kind of interesting that a guy with a first name that means Life or Lively is using some new attacks with names like Culling Blade. Culling is a synonym of Reaping. So is retrieve, recover and acquire. So we have a guy named Life in charge of a military unit that specializes in hunting down and 'retrieving' deserters showcasing new attacks that are named with synonyms of the word reaping and other attacks that reference wholesale slaughter and corporal punishment.

The job will be Magus from Chrono Trigger.
Ok maybe not, just thought it was funny 'cause "Magus" is a spellsword class in pathfinder, and also a scythe-wielding wizard in Chrono Trigger which is also a SQX IP so yeah
