Thank you for your reply, then Square-Enix, that is another feature to add. haha! :o
The number thread for the japanese forum is this topic
I agree with the OP. I've said this before a couple times.
NPCs and the monsters need to move and do things. As the game is right now, it feels really robotic.
The thing is, the aggro symbol doesn't have to hurt that discovery feeling. One idea for this is you know that the monster will aggro, but you don't know how. For example, that are monsters you can pass behind and they won't even notice you, and there are monsters that will face you if you do.
The "groundwork" is already implemented. So I'd like it to be more deep, like in FFXI with sneak, invi. Make mobs aggro by sound, smell, movement and other things :) that way, you may know that mob is aggressive, but you have to discover and get to know his behaviour :)
About the topic, there are great ideas here. But what I miss the most is the roaming NPCs. The cities are.. lifeless. The shops could have a schedule and close at night, for example.
Some monsters already do aggro by sound like Efts. They don't go by sight, you can walk right in front of them (outside a very small range) and they won't pay you any mind. If you run or do any action that makes a sound, like taking your weapon out, they will "look" right at you.
We need more of that sort of thing, maybe not just sight and sound? :o
Things that will make the world of Eorzea breath with life, aggressive monsters that protect their territory (another monster comes in, it kicks it away... anything to infuse life into Eorzea). :)
But yes, you get the idea.
Kita, I'd love the world to be more alive too. As someone mentioned previously on a now closed thread, the idea of changing mob behaviour specially when it's aggresive, like maybe a growl or any natural pose so you get a warning it will aggro you. Or NPCs who wave at you or shout when a quest is available. This was about removing the icons who make it too easy sometimes.
I was thinking yesterday while running through the Black Shroud during a heavy storm, and I'd love to see stuff like when it's raining or storming with thunder, the mobs would hide and try to cover. But I can also see that this could be a problem when you would grind on them.
Maybe not try to make the game too realistic (I myself don't like too much realism in a fantasy world), like when you walk too much your footwear will be red in no time, but that's another thing. I'm totally in for an alive Eorzea, alive mobs, NPCs, atmosphere, so yes, please.
I want them to bring back undead durning nighttime, elementals durning weather changes, and shops closing/opening durning different times in the day. These things made you feel like you were in a real world, and even had to pay attention to the time, weather, etc.
ideal solution would be if shops had opening hours, and like before thwem and after they went to inn an eat something, than went home. THis is another thing XIV is lkacking in XI there were homes for normal people in towns... limsa seesm to be made of shops, market wards, huge inn, harbor and jail. Well maybe becouse everyone in limsa is a pirate they just rent jaill cells for sleepig? and than they can feel at home when they are locked by Cudas?
Maybe they live in the northern part of Limsa Lominsa, in the northern islands? Also, there seems to be enough rooms above or below certain shops to have homes carved in there.
Maybe if the shops close it may bother some persons, why not a change in staff at the minimum? haha.
Back on the main topic, making Eorzea 'alive', a breathing world. The upcoming threat on Eorzea will, hopefully, bring new elements that will make the world more dynamic, random elements to surprise the player: both by threatening the player or changes in the scenery from time to time. That way, no matter how many times you walk in the same area, there would a chance of a change.
These temporary areas changes could range from something small (a Garlean scout trying to spy near or inside town or a camp -- free kill for anyone, like an NM without being a NM), a broken cart/vehicle with crates resulting from the last behest or during a leve (instead of only seeing the crates, add the broken vehicle too), to something much bigger like full scale attacks from intelligent enemies (beast tribes, bandits, Garlean empire, etc) that leave some scars/debris/broken things on the terrain for some time (This could be a result of behest too, I have difficulty to understand how in behest we kill animals while the behest-NPC's talk suggest something more dangerous than regular animals).
A dynamic, ever changing, world.
It would be great if some aggressive mobs had two aggro ranges. One being where you get a warning, like the mob crouches down or growls or draws their weapon or simply turns their head or what have you. The second being, obviously, they attack you when you get even closer.
I think they need to add more mob 'packs' as well, roaming wolves, rats hanging about together outside burrows, nanny goats being surrounded by billys etc etc. You get attacked by some wolves in the first gridania cut scene, then theyre just a few random spawns in a couple of areas of the zone..
Would certainly make the game feel a bit more aggressive. Also, yes to campaign style invasions.
I'm pretty sure the noises mobs make when you walk past are not warning signals, they are merely notifications that you have attracted aggro.
The mobs fleeing was a issue that all mobs had a small zone so when you took them away they just run back and re-pop and regain full hp. So to this fix issue they made there pop zone bigger and made mobs be more closers to each other and added more.
In FFXI there was a elvaan who would out to the outpost and to the last npc before the zone and walk back reporting there was noting to report. That something i like to see in FFXIV.
Also can we please take away all the dumb ports in FFXIV? i mean there one in each spot on the mob do we really need that many outpost? can we make it so level 1 leves are with the rank 10 leves? maybe that would cut down many teleport spam and allow noob players and pretty high players to help each other out.
Wow, I really love this idea. It totally worked in games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Harvest Moon. It gave night and day such a vastly different ambience in those games. I remember Brave Fencer Musashi for PSone had a softer lullaby-like theme for the town, which could be an idea for when travelling inside cities during the night. I really hope they use your idea. :D
Got some great ideas goin on this thread so I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I really like the idea of roaming mobs, whether it be alone or in packs. However, I would LOVE to see some epic roaming monsters. There couldn't be too many of these, but I really want to see at least one. My vision would be an enormous epic dragon. The dragon would not just roam around a specific zone, but ALL of Ezorea. I just think it would be amazing to see this legendary creature flying through the skies. And if you are actually lucky enough to see this thing land... it's like AHHHMAAHGAWDD O.O /l <t> FOUND IT!!! Obviously this would be end game content that would take a well organized HNMLS to defeat. However, the rarity of finding this NM + it's difficulty would just make it amazing achievement and I believe it would really help in bringing Ezorea to life ^^
Yeah, this is a pretty amazing idea and the bold part is just how i would like this happens.
In the same way, we could scout also a giant creature in the sea when wee see the ocean horizon or when we are on ferry. The world need to have all sort of random 'events' everywhere and everytime.
I think they should develop a greater ecology of monsters. Make them less static. Give them more behavious (migrations, motives, personalities). For example, marmots should run around collecting food, flee from aggressive mobs, and perform courtship dances with other marmots. Beastmen tribes should wander in groups between their outposts, laying waste to any players that get in their way. Everything should have a motive and change dynamically depending on their interactions with players and the environment. Nothing should be a fixed variable.
simple fact. wolves should kill rabbits every now and than. now we have agresive monsters and flyffy bunnyrabbitsquirelyfoxes living in pace
I was thinking about this the other day and thinking of other examples that xi and other games brang a sense of danger and threat to the world to liven the place up, i bring it back to wotg world with all the epic battles and music combind gave quite and urgent feeling and the rush to fight off the beastman hordes ,changing the overwise peaceful areas into war zones, i go to think of soemthing like Rift to, it isnt something ive played personally but again the same idea comes around with the Rifts in the sky opening up and completly changing the atmosphere of the area area the air sky and the factor of danger it brings players to unite for the good of the world.
If it is implemented it would be great to see these seamingless peaceful areas turn into places of dread much to the atmosphere of an Area like Mor Dhona.
I would greatly enjoy it if night time changed the zone more. Lots more ambient lighting, fireflies, luminescent foliage, different enemies/critters, cricket type sounds, different music, etc etc. The zones are just so big and unchanging that something like this would really help, imo.
Also, seasons would be so amazing (I know it'll probably never happen). They can take advantage of their copy pasta terrain by making snow texture versions and so on. With their current set up, it'd be a lot less of an undertaking compared to other games (though still extensive).
That lightning from the weather demo way back in the day...is that in the game (besides the lightning in the Limsa intro)? It looked so cool.
Definitely, by having a proper ecology it will make the world so much more interesting and give more possibilities to link things together (beastmen, quests, leves, etc.) instead of having NPCs tell us things that do not appear in the world outside cutscenes. Even if making level up parties get a bit more difficult, it sure will make things a lot less boring in the process. :)
After all, this game is to have fun, not be another job.
Square-Enix has power to make it reality, if we show them that we truly want that. :)
And, it would be very amazing since very few MMORPGs have this change of seasons (and more).
Seems like we have other threads about making the game play more lively and less static. I'm linking it in this thread since I believe it can also belong to what has been discussed here.

I think there is a dev post about "npc life" but i can't understand in a right way:

The world needs something similar to lolRIFT. Random enemy waves that can appear anywhere.
I hate to compare, but RIFT has these waves of monsters that appear from a random rift anywhere in the zone. The rifts themselves also display what level they are (Lv.10, Lv.13 etc) for the waves of enemies/boss.
Anyway, when i first saw this and how lively it made the world feel, it made me wish SE would adopt a similar strategy.
Hey guys! We spoke to Producer Yoshida and he likes your ideas about bringing more life to Eorzea and will be looking into them further. Currently the development staff is preoccupied with fixing systems with high priority so these ideas will take a little longer to be implemented but please look forward to it.
What other ideas do you have that would make Eorzea feel more alive? ^_^
No, no, and no again. Rift's rifts are freakin BORING, and ANNOYING. Sure it's cool and makes it feel more "alive" the first few hundred times you're forced to do a rift cause they're attacking the place you need to turn in a quest....but when you login and want to do something other than rifts, it's really frustrating and irritating.
Just, as a little example, Rift was so mind-blowing that I didn't even make it through the whole free month after buying the digital collector's edition....please don't take ques from this game, unless your goal is to completely revamp what they've done.
