What do you expect out of a role that literally doesn’t challenge you at all. Those people have met squares expected baseline of healing, they have nowhere to go other than going from 100 broil to 150 broil for a shiny number on FFlogs

If you expect thorough mediocrity that is exactly what you are going to get out of a role. Actually giving healers a ceiling that’s not stapled to the floor is how you alleviate people playing at the bare minimum expectations because the role doesn’t expect anything else out of you

Complaining that healers don't have perfect DoT uptime in casual roulette content is a level of pedantic that I didn't know was possible, but here we are.

The funny numbers website was a mistake.

Healers should have better DPS spam rotations. Like spam isn't bad, but it is really easy to make bad spam -- which is where healers are at right now.

That may be true but consider the fact that the class isnt challenging and people still not able to perform when it comes to the dps aspect, do you really wanna add even more dps options for healer then?

Again that’s setting wonky expectations then wondering why people don’t meet them. The DPS checks in the current tier are an absolute joke, if my healing is basically half unnecessary and my only damage options are spamming 111111111111 then what incentive do I as a player have to improve (note I’m not talking about me directly I’m just saying in general)

When there is no expectation of performing well, no punishment for not performing well and now benefit to actually performing well you are going to get the role filled with people who are thoroughly mediocre at it

It’s not a matter of being unable to perform any better it’s a matter of not caring to because you get no personal enjoyment out of it. I’ve 100% let my DOT drift all over the place in savage fights because the encounter isn’t challenging my to be better

Funnily enough in those illustrations, the cleric stance and DoT buttons are not the entire picture either.

Look at how much Adlo, Succor, Physick (lol) used there. See how much buttons are congealed to one single button press. Again, even worse, this is the case for 4 jobs within a single role.

If that’s not a mix of laziness, cutting corner, or incompetence from the Creatively Bankrupt Unit 3, Idk what that is.

I have the opposite experience. From what people say about their roulette experiences, I guess the playerbase of Zodiark is full of hypercompetent, god-tier players because things very rarely go wrong and when they do, one person dies, MAYBE. Wipes only happen in brand new content.

Honestly... maybe start thinking about managing your toolkit before asking for more offensive spells when most I've seen can't do the basics? Why would I be pushing regen

The tanks inbuilt oGCD heals are better than my actual GCD regen

If you are asking the healer to use regen you really should be asking the tank what the hell they are doing

Things do go wrong but usually it's by the players you'd expect (sprouts and returners). And often you can just patch up their mistake with an oGCD heal or Esuna unless they are really not using their head to learn and observe their surroundings (I had a few such cases recently).

But there are healers that, instead of just using an oGCD heal will just keep 100% uptime on adlo "in case" people take damage so pre-empt their mistakes. Nobody notices this, because it's extremely, extremely common and succeeds at preventing wipes, but I do see it a lot, just like with White Mages spamming cure.

I can see the argument of preventing mistakes from killing people by applying shields, but I don't personally pre-empt mistakes - only unavoidable damage (unless there's something like an aoe marker being overlapped on me and I can't move away).

So the argument then is: is a god-tier healer one that spams DPS and only prevents unavoidable damage? Is a god-tier healer one that prevents all damage by keeping shields up 100% of the time?

The answer is it doesn't matter because you probably don't even notice in most runs unless the DPS of the other roles is extraordinarily low. :D

I specifically don’t cast esuna if I don’t need to and it doesn’t affect your DPS

If you got doom or slow or something I’ll esuna you, if you got a DOT or heavy then I’ll just handle it without esuna

We can't have utility, because apparently that makes people go over mental breakdown having the to responsibility press them - SE took it away from us and give it to other roles which most of time they ignore anyway.
We can't have varied damage options because apparently some elusive Sylphie only wants to heal and heal only - SE lobotimizes that into 1 2 1 1 1 1.
We also can't have something to heal because apparently having to rely on another player in a multiplayer game is a novelty here - SE then buffs tanks sustenance out of proportion & makes shits hits like wet noodle.

So what do we have left? Just more damage from our shitty 1 button press. We have nothing else to work on for besides pushing for more damages when everything's fine. Do you expect us to /beesknees until something happen? No, you would've vote dismiss us. So what do you (SE) want us to do? That's right, pop the DF queue - that's all we're here for. One person's distress (healer) is a minority vs Three person's distress (non-healer) when the party wipes. Great design, SE. /s

Why would anybody be surprised? Take all the nuance and suddenly you've grown a playerbase that looks forward to no differentiation aspect besides 'more dps'. Now if only there are other thing that differentiate than just 'dps gain/loss'.... fat wish, I know.

I think the thing is that the game I believe only teaches you once in Hall of Novice (yes, optional content) about using Esuna on removable debuff, plus many debuffs you see from doing the dungeons etc. on MSQ aren't removable.

On a similar issue, it seems like that many tanks don't know the red blinking castbars can be interrupted; personally I wish we still had Silent Dusk so that I could interrupt by myself when playing healer.

I think we here understand that we don't need Esuna for everything, more like many healers don't use it on Doom or Slow (GCD speed), and maybe Heavy when movement matters

You can see a lot of people dying at the first boss of the 3rd HW alliance raid because there are some healers ignoring Doom.

i mean, i think the real issue is that there are too many healing tools. im sure if we lost like 2 healing OGCDs per healer, it might be more likely that you have to use your healing gcds. There is no conceivable way for healing to be made difficult with the sheer amount of defensive utility in the game across all classes too. It's not as simple as asking SE to make every boss AoE 1 shot without at least 20% mit on it or having the boss do so many raid wides that healers need to be healing up 1 every 15 secs or so. there are simply way too many defensive tools in the game period

I just want Healers to be able to meaningfully contribute to fights at all times.

Currently, we only really get to actually play when the bosses does raidwide damage or tank busters. For the other 90+% of fights, we're just a scuffed DPS with the lowest damage.

There's one tank with a built in regen on a cd. The other have to either cast it, rely on a single burst of heal, or if they crit or not.

I won't be asking healers to use regen. I use it because it comes in handy instead of expecting the tank to do all the job because runs are supposed to be a combined team effort.

But then again, seeing your response about how you don't even esuna unless it's doom... you just want them to add to your toolkit when you can't be bothered to do the basics, just as I said in the first place.

Using your kit when you don’t have to just because it’s there isn’t a mark of a good healer it’s a mark of a healer who doesn’t understand their toolkit and how it interplay's with other jobs

But sure please go on acting like because the role quests spent more time drilling esuna into you than actually expecting you to be a half way competent healer that pressing. Buttons just because they exist makes you a good healer

Literally everything you can dispell it's detrimental in one way or another.

Doom kills you, blind signifies a dps loss, slow will make it so people take longer to go on to the next part whatever it is and charm will keep anyone from dpsing.
All of them would delay a fight. You have no reason not to do it, specially if your goal is to get things done quick.

You're not making up for it if you don't esuna and instead continue pressing one.

I.e. Esuna is not needed when your next assize/unused benison/tetra/coincidental AoEs from Asylum/Lilybell can fix the DoT damage. Why waste the GCD when you can keep dpsing AND keep your ally alive?

Are there actually any DoTs deadly enough to not be dealt with by coincidental regens and a few free OGCD heals that also can be cleansed with Esuna?

I feel like the only really deadly DoTs are in savage when you fail mechanics, and those cannot be cleansed with Esuna.

You think using Assize that is used on cooldown, or a Tetra that has multiple charges to heal a dot that 99% of the time will kill absolutely no one is a waste? Yikes.

I can tell by your posts that you are a novice FFXIV healer, and to PvE content as well. Perhaps its best to get a bit more (a lot more actually) experience under your belt before you discuss how to play a healer in high end content.

The only deadly DOTs I'm aware of in regular content can't be cleansed, like Fatebreaker's lightning dot or the AAC Light-Heavyweight ones you get from messing up certain mechs.
In my experience Doom in Dun Scaith is often uncleansed due to healers not knowing the bar under the status icon means it's cleansable.

Funny thing is, I felt more comfortable using Regens and other casted heals back when it was just normal for healing to come with dps losses instead of it being entirely avoidable like it is now. The only job that could be played like that was AST in ShB.

You want to talk about DPS losses? Having a 2 healers in most 8-man content is a DPS loss because their damage is too low.

True, and I don't use it on stuff like a DoT in many cases (unless it hits real hard), but a really good place to test people's Esuna knowledge is O4 and of course, the majority of the time healers don't tend to Esuna the Doom.

Role Quests actually require you to use your role properly. I remember in all the Role Quests that I actually had to heal as a healer for example, and retreating into my DPS habit was clearly sending me on a path to nearly failing it. That's why they require you to do them for battle mentor status.

Definitely true, but again if they do the Role Quests for tanks then they are forced to cross paths with it and struggle to beat it if they don't know to interrupt. I've had to help a few people who struggled with the quests thinking there was impossible damage that they simply didn't interrupt.

In most content, I agree with you, but there have been odd dungeons here and there, and some savage raids, that have actually forced me to burn through my entire heal kit and discover that there is sort of a "rotation" and "flow" to all these heals. It's just that you start to forget this when a lot of content can be mostly handled by the likes of Whispering Dawn and Fey Blessing.

It is that simple though. All I ever want is for my mit to matter. So if a raid-wide doesn't wipe with no Reprisal then it's not forcing any of us to do something. It might be the healer that shields or the tank that reprisals or the MCH that uses raid-wide mit, but someone should be required to press it. But this is a wasted argument because SE will only design High-End duties that way and have openly stated dungeons are designed not to kill unmitigated (and from past experience, at min item level even food alone allows you to survive hits unmitigated).

I'm pretty sure the DT role quest fight you don't even need to heal the NPC you're with as she has a heal that she can use.

ShB and EW Healer Role Quests did actually require you to be more of a healer.

If you ask me the biggest joke about the role quests is that they spend all that time purely on ‘Have you heard of the critically acclaimed spell Esuna…?!’
Then have essentially no instances of removable debuffs in like any dungeon this expansion. Only things I can even think of is the Paralyze from 2nd boss of Alexandria and the Poison from M3. The former most healers will just straight ignore and the latter I imagine most will just ‘lol regen’ so there was never much point in it being removable anyway lol.

The good thing is that you are required to do at least 1 ShB role quest for MSQ. The bad thing is that which role you are tested on depends what you do the MSQ with and doesn't extend to all the alt roles people play.

Poison from M3 is probably the only one I'd Esuna immediately because IIRC it's followed by either stack up or multihit raidwide which could result in unfortunately damage spike to that player (curse you AoE heal roll out).

Personally I like to just Esuna everything that can be removed lol. Is it bad? Probably. Am I still going to take any chance I get to not cast BroilGlareDosisMalefic? Absolutely yes lol.

Still, if you had just done role quests, with how much they have you use Esuna you’d think there’d be a bunch of removable debuffs all over the place this expansion lol. The removable debuffs are absolutely not in the room with us now lol.

I hate to sound like an old fart again, but if they didn't gut Scholar's kit like a fish in Shadowbringers, we wouldn't be in this current situation.

Scholar used to be able to interrupt and had a mass esuna on the petbar -- which means it was entirely out of your personal GCD and oGCD windows. As a whole, pet management was a consideration. Which one do you pick for which situation? Juggling with DoTs means less time broilspamming and more time weaving damage and heals. I will not deny that HW SCH had too many DoTs to juggle with, but Stormblood SCH was the perfect middle ground between fast gameplay, managing your pet position, dot spreading and spells, silencing that Orthos in o7s specifically was very nice to play around (from what I can remember!), take care of the debuffs if any in one fast sweep, and buffing allies offensively or defensively. Virus was also fun to play around -- and I might add that caster DPS being able to put a magic CD on somebody was a nice thing to have! I really miss Apocatastasis!

If anything, AST also had their versatile buffs and Disable in HW! You actually had to think what to apply on who, and not the current everything on tank except damage buffs. It's less mindnumbing than before in ShB and EW, but it definitely has lost its sauce due to RNG removal. Like, imagine the mana card not giving mana.. it's still completely unacceptable imo -- and Nocturnal AST has been completely nuked over "barrier/pure" that isn't respected by no healer jobs. WHM got shields. Multiple of them. SGE got a super strong HoT. It never made any sense, and you effectively stripped half of the gameplay of AST over another job that just doesn't play the same, or isnt nearly as busy. A completely nonsensical idea, which you never put in place for tanks over MT/OT. Yet you did it without second thought for healers? That is insane.

Simply put, we had more to do than just broil spam, and we got our flexible damage options removed for no reason, AND our main gimmicks gutted to the point the whole role is boring. And on top of that, healer damage will always be mandatory since they very clearly stated that ever since Gordias. And, at the same time, forcing you to spam one button to achieve it? It's no surprise people find it boring in higher difficulties. Ultimate or not.

Sage having two GCD dots was simply too much for them apparently. We used to have 5. 6, if anything, but apparently 2 was just too much to expect at all.
If only Sage was actually the "DPS healer" and had more than one button spam and sometimes press Phlegma.. if Scholar had an actual pet to manage and its dot gameplay and just a mindnumbing spam.. and if you still had a high APM while using your brain Astrologian (it still has the high apm somewhat atleast, even if its really not there yet) -- the healer population wouldn't be bored to hell. WHM has steadily gotten more and more to do, and that's a very good thing. I wish I could say that for the 3 other healers.

However, that would require the dev team to actually play any healer in a regular manner, and quite frankly, it did not happen in 5 years. And they're aware the healer population is bored to tears, almost every single influencer interview for EW and DT have mentioned that glare spam is boring as hell.

The people saying "they're breaking them down to build them back up!" 5 years ago have left the game for the most part, or they aren't playing healer anymore. The lore has been completely trampled on for SCH and AST. Sage isn't the DPS healer by any metric.
I don't actually care if they're actual GCD DoTs, they can be high damage nukes like goring blade and phlegma have been, but that would be something more than one button spam, at the very least.

Let your healer players have fun. This situation is completely self inflicted, and it has pleased nobody so far. People are bored? Give them something to do that is fun, just like any other job (that isnt DRK I guess). It's really not that difficult.

There's no reason for healers to be concerned with dps overall. The fact that you have to sit there and argue about whether or not healers should be contributing to the overall damage numbers proves to the simple fact that healers overall have lost their reason for existence. You can ask why this is and I would point squarely at the tanks. Two of the tanks have made it so that healing is utterly unnecessary, you can base this on the fact that two paladins have managed to complete the higher levels of content with no healers whatsoever. If it were necessary for healers to have a role in higher level content, this wouldn't be a possibility.

The problem with healers whining for additional dps abilities and possibilities means that they are not having to concern themselves with their sanctioned role, being that of the healer. If you take away the role of the healer from the classes that have little else but to heal, why would you expect them to do nothing else but whinge for additional opportunities to make themselves but a crippled dps class? If there was stricter and harsher requirements overall for healers to fulfill, they wouldn't' whine about having nothing to do. You can see whispers of this coming to the forefront in m4 and other raids but, as seen in the highest levels, they are overtaken by the raw healing potential of the tank classes.

It's not a lack of dps opportunity that keeps the healer classes at a disadvantage, even though there is only 4 people account for in any given group, or even 8 a raid. It's the fact that it is presumed that most healers are utterly inept at their given role and will routinely fail to meet the expectations that are given upon them. See the ones who are saying that esunaing a debuff/dot would be a dps loss. This fundamentally speaks to a failure of what the healer classes are meant to be and the fact that you are wanting to be little more than a green dps speaks to this. If you had more to do with healing and less to simply tending to the scrapes and bruises of other classes, than you wouldn't be whining about having nothing to do.

For whatever reason, Square Enix has decided that you are little more than a band aid dispenser, aside from the absolute worse case scenarios when everyone dies or multiple people refuse/fail to do mechanics, and that you will be relegated to your simple 1/2 button spam.

Again, it's not a problem of green jobs lacking dps opportunities. It's a fundamental issue with the fact that healing overall is, largely, unnecessary in the entirety of the game because it cannot be counted on that one person will be able to uphold the other three. This is entirely evidenced by the fact that two of the tank classes do not need healers whatsoever and, even then, for the other two it's arguable that they need healers altogether, given their propensity for shields and other forms of healing.

Healers are already spoiled enough with how much DPS they have in this game. I have played countless other "holy trinity" sorts of games where the healers had far, far less capability to deal damage than they do in this game, and that was seen as just how those games worked.

Try being thankful for what you already have, for a change. Some of you seem like you'll never be happy until you're doing comparable damage to the actual DPS role, and that just isn't going to happen. Get real.
