What do you consider peak time? I'm also on Aether and also on Jenova and I play in NA prime time of about 6pm eastern sometimes until 4 in the morning. I've never had any of the alliance raids take that long outside of back in the day before we even had the roulette where CT was all we had and could take hours to fill.

I've had my alt over on Aether trying to get the raids unlocked because she does get those queue times over on Dynamis, and she hasn't had to wait more than 30 minutes on a dps going through Void Ark so far. I'm about to start her with Ivalice. And on my main I get the Nier raids so often I'm frankly more sick of them than I already was. Also get the Myths raids a lot but that's understandable because coin raids are always popular when people are still finishing gearing up. I usually run either healer or dps on my main.

Rather than spending 5 years trying to artificially work around the CT issue.......why not just solve it?

Reduce max ilvl so players aren't severely overpowered to the point they can ignore mechanics.
Rework some of the less interesting encounters (e.g. Thanatos, Glasyla, trash mobs)

Make CT actually fun to run........and people will willingly que for it...crazy I know

Might as well rework it from the ground up and throw a coils rework into the mix, along with new rewards.

That will keep the folks busy.

Whilst this would make it a little more tolerable and fun, it wouldn't really detract much from the fact that CT raids still dominate the majority of queries (esp., from my experience), and no amount of stringent iLv or reworking of some of the less interesting encounters will really make it great or even ideal for the long-term.

For all I care CT could be reworked into the most difficult encounter for alliance roulette, but if it keeps popping and popping and popping, then it'll just be the same situation. No amount of difficulty at the Alliance Raid roulette will compensate for the sheer amount of times CT pops. Personally, I'd feel the exact same way even if it were Ivalice in its place. After so many runs it is still reduced to autopilot mode.

Granted, I could get behind this for putting it more in line with the effort required to complete the others. But something else still needs to be done about it IMO

I'm not trying to deny your experience, but it's harder to evaluate than raw numbers. Manipulation of the roulette is without a doubt responsible for some CT runs, but the real question is how often did it really matter? Not even the spreadsheet I posted can answer that definitively but it certainly helps in trying to understand why roulettes turned out as they did.

The experience of any given person could differ from the sheet but with the amount of alliance raids run it's probably safe to conclude that CT simply has more new players running it than other content. I also didn't want to imply that every instance of someone gearing after entering a raid wasn't a manipulation attempt, but that it's actually difficult to know. Even if everyone is above level 60, that doesn't mean CT can't be randomly selected. Just like you can get all 90's in Sastasha leveling roulette.

From my view a separate roulette is the solution. A rework won't meaningfully change anything because CT will remain level 50, which means it will remain 1-3 button content for most classes. Level 50 has become so depreciated that it's closer to level 1 than level cap and when DT releases this will even be the case by the numbers. I think some kind of significant rotation is necessary to make FF14 content engaging. It's not just about the encounter design, class design matters just as much and 50 offers nothing in that area.

His peak time is middle of the night clearly. There isn't a mission that any instance takes 8 hours outside of Rival Wings when you queue at night. 30-60 minutes tops in peak time. In the worst case yes it could take a few hours, but thats when you queue at 3AM and everyone is in their scratchers. The longest queue I've ever had since ARR was exactly this, a 3 hour queue because I was up at stupid O'clock, difference is I knew they queue was going to be long.

If Yoshi would just Ilvl Sync the ARR raids so they don't get nuked so we can actually have fun instead of fighting training dummies.

The msq roulette should be removed. Its a loot pinyata that makes the entire arr section of the game feel more despicable/despisable. The presence of the other 3 players inside the dungeon adds nothing to there importance and doesn't even make sense. Isn't it about you and cid vs Gaius.. so why is Tom riddle from cerberous here? Just pointless. Make it a solo instance and remove the whole thing. Would also give people something else to have to do for exp... like idk.. pvp and fates.

Alternatively, revamp msq to be a roulette of anything and everything in msq. Now you've made more people que to help sprouts and you've taken away 30 minutes of afk.

I think the right fix has to be requiring equipping gear that is equal to your level to enter roulettes. If you are level 90 in that role, then you must be wearing all level 90 gear to enter the roulette. The ilevel requirement would still apply to do the harder content, but players should not be able to cheese the roulette by removing gear to bring down the ilevel.

Because CT is specifically required for Endwalker storyline reasons, the system should only be selecting players from the roulette who are in the queue but under level 60 in the queued role. Only when there is not enough players to fill, then select 70's, 80's, 90's that have been waiting the longest. etc. If a roulette does not find players that haven't cleared the content, then the system will pick the hardest content every player has cleared before considering backfilling. eg it will pick EW raid's, and when there's not enough, it will go down.

If players are cheesing it like they do now, eg level 90 but wearing ilevel 130 gear, the system will not let them queue the roulette, only select the raid manually and no rewards from roulette.

At any rate, the problem is the roulette itself. I tried to queue for 24-player and 8-player raids at 10pm pacific and had no fills till the queue resets at like 2am. Certain content (Eg Coil) will NEVER fill because it has no roulette. For this, there should be a "ALL content (min ilevel)" roulette, that considers all content cleared. For the player this just means "put me in the first thing open, and ilevel lock me to minimum ilevel."

I'm sure some people would balk at that, but that would offer rewards for not cheesing anything.

where were you in the past months? Because they did just that but as many had predicted it changed nothing.

The problem was not iLvl cheese. CT comes back often because it is the only mandatory raid and the only raid someone can do until they reach a certain point in msq. You could be in full 660 gear and you would still be able to do only CT if you haven’t unlocked the other raids. Also, a new player who reaches lvl 60 may still not be able to unlock the next raid series as it is locked behind MSQ. They have to finish the expansion before that, same for the other lvl 70, 80 and 90 raids. The player base is simply much broader for CT.

Unlocking all the raids takes time. If someone started years ago, it’s a non issue but for a new player, just doing MSQ to get to engame is already quite long. Unlocking optional raids is probably not a priority.

Personally, I purchased a character upgrade to play with friends on a EU DC and nothing besides MSQ was unlocked, not even glamours or chocobo fighting beside you…there were blue markers all over the map. It took a me while to unlock ARs as you have to run some quest chain, queue, wait and then do the raid (I have not unlocked the last Nier raid and will never do so on that character as it gives me a migraine). Repeat x 11. SE has also put the quest givers in the middle of nowhere: a new player who is doing MSQ will not think of going back to Kholusia to speak to that dwarf away from everything on the map. Several new players to whim i have spoken didn’t even know there were other alliance raids besides CT.

There are lots of new players with xbox and there’s going to be even more with DT so CT will keep popping. The only way to fix this is to start giving real incentives to unlock the other raids and maybe move the initial quest givers to more obvious locations and give the quest markers a different colors as atm it’s just another blue marker among many.

Just to add, some people (like me) have multiple alts. As I have experienced the story of all the raids, and don’t particularly want or need anything that drops from any of them on my alts, I will never, ever…ever.. unlock anything but the CT raids.

This is why we need a higher power to smite us all.

I abuse the roulette for my own gain at the expense of others because I have too many alts is definitely one of the stances on this issue of all time

The maain problem i see with OP's suggestion is if you move that raid to MSQ roulette it will affect that roulette also and even iif you did remove CT ffrom Raid roulette you would only ever get the world of darkness raid aswell as that seems to be the second highest raid to always pop for me, so yeah it just wouldnt work sadly, you'd be killing another roulette just to get another raid on repeat.

They could just lock the alliance roulette if the player hasn't unlocked all the alliance raids available to be unlocked at their current level, mentor already kind of works like that, and also double the rewards for good measure.

While the first two are more common, World of Darkness is a Crystal Tower raid and also included in the discussion.

Sure, then one could make the argument that HW raids will become the new default, but HW is peak and at lv60 jobs start to feel better and more enjoyable to play, so good, let it happen. This is the world I want to live in.

Lest anyone else repeat this mistaken belief: The Crystal Tower raids are specifically required for Shadowbringers storyline reasons, not Endwalker.

This is one of the many reasons that complaints about CT are nearly 5 years old, not something that just happened this expansion.

As for the poster's suggestion that follows: "pick the hardest content every player has cleared ..." could very well be CT, which is, again, why that particular set of raids comes up so frequently.

Interesting, I have many alts but more often than not I do the reverse of what you do and unlock all the alliance raids I can.

I like to put together themed glamour plates for my different characters and I find the best glamour pieces often come from alliance raids. (Especially Weeping City/Yafaemi and Ivalice everything). I did do the whole Shadow of Mhach on one character just for the scarf, which is a nice glam to have, and (while not technically glam) I did ivalice questline to completion on several characters just for the cute hairstyle.

I don't ever progress my alts past my mid-shb main though I am looking forward to Nier.

I feel like instead of moving them to MSQ, they should fix the iLvl so we can experience these raids as they were released. I don't mind the AR alliances because at least if I queue into them now it's because someone needs them to level up or to progress the story, rather than players cheesing and pulling all the people in queue to AR alliances just because they are lazy.

Because they didn't entirely fix said cheese nor was it the only problem. CT would be less obnoxious if they actually scaled it properly so we weren't fighting the equivalate of target dummies with a few auto attacks. There is no justifiable reason we're scaled to i130 in a bloody i50 raid. To be frank, the very poor scaling system is a problem at all levels because of how much we demolish content merely 4-6 months old. Look no further than Aglaia. New players won't even see the scale mechanic from Nald'Thal due to how poorly tuned the fight is on top of over leveled we are nowadays.

Secondly, albeit much less a problem overall is none of the other raids are required. Therefore, people deliberately not locked other 24 mans on alts in order to force the queue into select CT.

Instead of moving CT to MSQ, let's address the above problems. A simple solution would be to first gift new players a free set of Ironworks gear that way there's no concerns about them queuing in with i50 AF sets. From there, bump LotA to i70, Syrcus Tower i90 and WoD i110 with the sync being 20 ilvls above those requirements. For example, in this hypothetical, we'd be synced to i90 in LotA. That would actually make them more engaging to do despite level 50 being dreadfully working job wise. Going forward, all raids (and content, really) should be synced either 20 ilvls above the minimum or the relevant ilvl at the time of its release. I prefer the former as it helps mitigate how much stronger we are nowadays, what with job changes and all.

Finally, make all the 24 mans a mandatory unlock to access the roulette once you finish the expansion they release in. An example once again being once you complete the Stormblood quest, Alliance Raid locks until you unlock the Ivalice series. I don't typically like forcing things but it's the only way to completely eliminate cheesing raids.

Instead of linear scaling, use a diminishing scale instead, as that still involves a reward for upgrading gear.

The first 20 levels you might just have it the way it is, but each next 10 levels could be significantly weakened to such state that being 50 or 60 levels above it while it does make it easier, it remains within an acceptable range. For example by effectively halving the gain each additional 10 levels (note the scale only halves again at the effective 10 ilvls, not the gear ones).

So lets say we have ilvl 50 as raid, ilvl70 will be as is, but ilvl 80 will be scaled to 75, ilvl 100 to 80, ilvl 140 would have been 90, but since 130 is still the cap, it now would be 87 (30x0.5x0.5=7.5).
And with it, we can even apply this system diffirent per stat. Vitality could use halving, dps could use 25% which at ilvl 130 means: 50+(20x0.25=)5+(30x0.25x0.25=1.8=)2=57.

It can reward upgrading, but beyond a certain level in normal content doesnt realy matter much, but can still be noticed.

Hard ilvl limits while they sound nice are quite meaningless towards those who dont do extremes as they will nearly always exceed the ilvl for the content anyway. Giving them some effect that they can notice, even if slightly, does give a sense of reward, although this might only be noticed on the HP value at these diminishing values. But it does allow balancing!

Honesty yes and no
I feel yes cause if you are on a deader DC and even make party finders to even clear it undersized it still takes a good while to fill even if it does.. and a lot of new players are stuck on progressing (someone in my group couldn't get it finished for weeks they are from oceanic so they can't just DC hop to na or anything like that)

Forcing people to unlock all the alliance raids to use the roulette would be damaging to lower population DCs that already struggle with queues. And there would probably be an effect even on higher population DCs as people who did the roulette because it was there from unlocking CT for story just stop doing that roulette when it locks them out and they don't know why.

Believe me, people still mess that beginning raids up. Especially the impatient ones that start Atmos fights in Labyrinth before everyone is there. Saw it last night as the fight took much longer than it should since only 4 of the people from C group made it in before the start, and rest ended up with us when they got teleported in due to a tank just doing his own thing.

So yea, people still mess those up.

There's a couple of things here that I feel like is a culmination of several experiences that leads to an overall desire to avoid Crystal Tower raids.

* It is the most common Alliance Raid in the Alliance Raid Roulette.
> This is caused by several factors. First, by the roulette being attainable by merely unlocking Crystal Tower without the rest of the raids, making it more similar to Leveling Roulette than some of the others, which requires you to unlock more and more duties to continue having access to the roulette. Solution: Require at least 1 of every raid you qualify for (preferably via story completion rather than level).

People were farming for upgrades that it dropped, which are i80. You SYNC to i130. That's almost double the ilv of what people on average had gear wise going into it. You barely even see the mechanics in World of Darkness and that drops i120 gear and had folks on average in i100 to i110 on launch.

Both of those would be appreciable to making the raid more tolerable but the undeniable truth is: It's LV50. And nothing's going to change that you're going to be forced to be there at LV50. Which is just an awful place for all jobs.

I like the CT raids, I just don't like getting ONLY CT. And really that needs to be fixed by making it not a faceroll so people don't use it just to farm tomes.

They should require you to unlock the first alliance raid for each expansion in order to queue into the alliance roulette at level 60/70/80/90. (level 60+ require Void Ark unlock to do the roulette, level 70+ require Rabanstre and so on)

Let's not do the mistake of tying things to level alone as everything in this game is tied to MSQ progress. By the time I reached the point where I could unlock the HW raids, I was about lvl 70 and close to 80 at the end of Stormblood. It's almost impossible not to over level these days due to all the bonuses and it's impossible to unlock a new raids series until you've finished the corresponding expansion. It would just make things worse as people would not necessarily be willing to backtrack.

If you are overlevelled on your main job you don’t need to be doing the alliance roulette anyway do this isn’t a problem

It's a game, it's not about need. Running things with friends or various levels is fun. Same with helping new people do something. as for need, someone may need tomes too.

There are lots of new players, there will be even more when DT comes out and I'll be happy to help them and run whatever they want to run when they level up. Except people in the situation being described are actively hindering new people, CT doesn’t need any more “help” the other raids are the ones that desperately need help. Any person that is queuing for the alliance raid without everything they can possibly have unlocked unlocked is actively hindering the experience of people who are trying to do everything

Except people in the situation being described are actively hindering new people, CT doesn’t need any more “help” the other raids are the ones that desperately need help. Any person that is queuing for the alliance raid without everything they can possibly have unlocked unlocked is actively hindering the experience of people who are trying to do everything

No they are not, they are new players and they are totally entitled to run CT: it's part of their MSQ and that's what roulette is for. I am not hindering anyone when I help friends and most often than not, they queue for CT directly (really blaming people for running with friends is pretty low). Anyway we got lots of new players with Xbox and are about to get even more with DT.You might as well just stop queuing for AR if it makes you so angry because you are going to get even more CT whether I am there or not lol Btw when I queue by myself for AR I get a lot of Myths of the Realm. Want an Ivalice raid? queue for one.

The roulette is designed to pop content people are queuing directly for, we all have CT but many people don’t have the non CT raids, if you are sitting in the queue with only CT unlocked when you have the capacity to have other raids unlocked you are making it harder for people who are actually attempting to queue directly for the other alliance raids. This is why it can take hours to pop nier even on busier servers. This is why the “if you want x raid just queue for it directly” is pointless advice, because the over abundance of CT makes it harder to do this. I don’t even do the alliance roulette so this is nothing about me directly

You aren’t “helping” people pop CT, CT doesn’t need help to pop, but queueing for the roulette when you intentionally don’t unlock other raids is certainly making the other ones harder to pop which is the antithesis of the roulette design

I think you misunderstood. I queue with friends who queue for CT directly because they need it. It's their first run or close to it. They force roulette to CT, not me. Me queuing with them changes nothing in popping CT. That's not the objective: I help friends and accompany them. The fun part is that there are more deaths in CT than other raids because new people don't know what they are doing (that's what I help my friends who are new with)

I unlock all my raids when I reach the point I can unlock them but when I need tomes on a job, I will queue AR. That's what it's for. Unfortunately, with server bonuses + FC bonuses, people level up in no time and the time it takes to complete MSQ is still the same. Also, even if I have all the raids unlocked and am on a lvl 50-60 job, I will still get CT no matter what if I queue AR. There are many reasons to get CT.

Anyway, at lvl 90, I don't queue for AR unless I need tomes (and I have everything unlocked atm save Nier 3) or asked to by friends who need tomes. Not taking anything away from anyone.

You seem to have this misconception that I’m insulting you directly rather than just using the general “you” as in people who intentionally don’t unlock raids they have access to as a way to force CT no matter what job and what level they are at

If you are queueing for CT directly with friends because it’s their first time and they are doing the story I have literally zero problem with that

You don't even run the roulette but you want to sit there and pass judgment over when people should and shouldn't be running it.
