As someone who had a person blacklisted and they still managed to follow me around the game while I was doing MSQ, spam me with slap emotes and even go so far as to take on the appearance and name of my original character (after I changed both to try to throw them off) and proceed to harass my friends....the blacklist only prevents messages being exchanged. It absolutely doesn't prevent stalking/harassment/interaction taking place in other forms.
Yeah, person can stand there but it's pretty common courtesy to not just send a random person a creepy message because you're speeding on a red bull and trying to use a disorder as an excuse for the behavior. Speaking as someone who has one, it's not acceptable.
I NEVER said stalking is OKAY. Stop putting things in my mouth. I simply did not believe this counts as serious as "stalking". Be careful what you accuse people of.
Ending an argument because you have no more points to counter it. Sure.
The OP was never in any danger or harassment nor the person had intention to harm or harass (basing on that one DM). It borders discomfort depending on who receives that DM but that is not stalking. It is weird but that is not stalking.
Repeating my first post, I HATE to be that guy - but labeling that interaction as stalking is overreaction.
The other post asked me if I was in that situation, I would just simply blacklist and move on.
If you do not want messages from someone, blacklist them. If you do not want to share a screen with a character, leave. The blacklist system works as intended. There is no reason to be overdramatic in this specific situation.
Let me just quote Stalking as defined by the Support Centre itself:
https://support.na.square-enix.com/f...la=1&kid=68216
It is prohibited to stalk a player as described in the following examples. If a report has been filed and the prohibited activity is confirmed, a penalty will be issued.
- Persistently moving to locations where someone is, despite being asked to stop the behavior.
- Persistently sending messages to someone, or directed at someone, through Tell or other means, despite being asked to stop the behavior.
- Ambushing someone at their destination, or their housing estate, despite being asked to stop the behavior.
- Persistently sending a friend or party request despite being asked to stop the behavior.
- Creating new characters to message someone who has blacklisted you, despite being asked to stop the behavior.
- Attempting to make contact in-game with someone despite official authorities forbidding contact with them in real-life.
* The act of following someone around in a specific situation/area is considered "improper following" and is explained in the Obstruction of Play section below.
Should the details described in a report be determined as "stalking activity," the stalking player will be penalized, and we may contact the victim and obtain their consent to issue an in-game restraining order. Should we confirm that a player has attempted to contact the victim through any means after being issued an in-game restraining order, a more severe penalty will be imposed.
Doubt it too tbh, I am still happy with my houses and with my friends but that's pretty much it on my side
also @the above post, not going to respond, I dont talk to people thinking stalking is okay, the only point I will respond to is the blacklist point, blacklist does nothing to help stalking buddy, and you shouldnt have to leave every 30 seconds because a person is following you, which is what the person was doing to the OP, even cross datacenter.
Like in the post with pedophilia

"it's just a game" or "just leave" doesnt work when a person is following you and stalking you.
Done with you now though, no point arguing further, that was the last time I responded to you in this thread.
That is two completely different situations - and definitely 100% harassment - and you should report.
Spam slapping and following you at MSQ - that's a different story.
・Obscene/Indecent Expressions
Key Points
In general, all expressions of an obscene/indecent nature are prohibited. If a report has been filed and the prohibited activity is confirmed, a penalty will be issued.
This applies to not only text-based expressions such as chat but also to expressions that use emotes and or character movements in ways that are sexually explicit.
- Examples of violations that use character motions
- Using a combination of emotes and motions to mimic grinding against another character
- Using movements that are evocative of sexual activities
Yeah - I mean, the only time I do this is when I'm at one of the starting point areas. I generally just initiate a trade and drop them a quick PM with a simple "welcome to the game" and explain that the food item is a little EXP boost to use in battle or that the minion is one I already have. If they respond, great - if not, that's fine too. I don't generally hang around afterward.
So I've generally assumed that, so long as I'm not pushy about it, it's acceptable.
Except you keep claiming I am okay with stalking - which is false.
I simply said, this interaction was not - and is overreaction.
It's one thing you end an argument because you have no more points and it is another when you putting things in people's mouths. I never said I am okay with stalking.
It's awful - but again - hate to be this guy - the interaction here was an overreaction calling it as serious as stalking.
How many times do I have to repeat myself?
What part of people don't like being followed do you not get? Have you never been stalked before? The tell itself made it clear what the person was on and yet you call it an "overreaction". Blacklisting stops tells, it doesn't stop people. I've done the same and have had folks still around my house when I went there (thank christ those weirdos left the DC). Did they mess up my gameplay? No. Did they make me uncomfortable due to following me? Yes and so they get reported for following me ie, stalking. Same here.
Anyone defending this crap or minimizing what's going on either needs help, is mad weird, ignorant or probably participates in this activity. It is wrong. Period.
I did report and get them perma-banned (have confirmation from a friend of a friend).
My point is that the blacklist system we have is utterly useless at doing anything other than preventing conversation. It does nothing else. OP could blacklist them and they could still follow them around the map without any ability to stop it if a GM doesn't get involved (since the person in their post literally did that and said they wanted to watch them). So, saying that blacklist prevents interaction from happening is completely false as the person wanting to engage with you can do so freely in other methods. I remember one thread on here where someone was stalking and harassing an FC for months and the GMs did nothing about it when reported.
A blacklist should hide you from the other person and prevent any form of lookup so they can't find you. Point blank period.
It is completely ridiculous that this game has so many ways to encourage stalking (lodestone links that don't change, blacklist that is more of a mute button than a blacklist, how you aren't removed from the other person's friends list when you remove them, etc.) and they have it like that for the sake of "not hurting the other person's feelings". Utter garbage. If you're being a creep your feelings are irrelevant.
If they were black listed the person in question would not be able to say anything to them. So it boils down looking/ following should be a punishable offense?
Like that cannot be abused. Since what else could be done to prevent such behavior.
Edit: if a person spams emotes and other things report but even then I don't a GM would have the authority to do much. Since that is also getting into murky waters that can easily be abused by other players.
If you aren't okay with it then stop defending someone who was showing signs of it. I don't know many people who wander up to someone, say they're having a mental health related issue and then ask to sit and watch them because they're pretty.
That is really creepy to me and gives off a lot of red flags. I wouldn't want someone I don't know just sitting and staring at me from a corner and following me around to perv on my character. Let's be real now, in my three years of being on FF I've had people compliment my character but it ends there. Asking to follow and watch them is taking it to another point entirely and honestly makes me think they had ulterior motives and might have been playing the game with one hand...if you get my drift.
They said they wouldn't change how housing works and now we have Island Sanctuary and the lottery. If they can change one thing they said they wouldn't they can change this too.
I already said what my solution would be: make it an actual blacklist. If you blacklist someone, they can't search for you or message you. They can't see your lodestone profile. It would at least help more than the broken system we have now that protects the harassers more than the victims.
Improve the blacklist system and make them disappear from the screen, and make GM's actually act appropriately instead giving free reign to stalkers (thanks to the friendlist system for that too, you cant even flee to another DC, you are still in their friend list, no matter if you even rename, you stay there).
This game literally encourages stalking, lodestone link doesnt change, you stay in people's friendlist, you can rename, world change, dc change, it stays there.
Following irl can be reported to the police. Stalking is stalking. Only real difference here is you can log off the game, but a person shouldnt have to do that hence why they report. The "it can be abused" defense doesn't work here really. There aren't a ton of folks reporting for stalking in this game. And to advocate for less folks to do so when they are being stalked makes no sense. You'd need to actually be doing something shady to even be considered a possible stalker by someone. Stuff like what OP posted is a clear example.
I don't often agree with Stormy but I'd 100% support some blacklist changes to curve many of these issues.
First not sure what element of Island Sanctuary solves any housing issues. Isn't that one of the sore spots with IS? That it is not instance housing?
Lottery is also seen as a bandaid fix to the housing situation and a low effort one at that.
So your point is they should put in a low effort fix that really only pleases one subset of the community and is generally seen at best a meh idea to a shit situation at worse a complete and total failure.
The things in question that people are against can easily be abused if they became GM actionable. FFXIV GM's seem to operate on a binary did you break the ToS yes the punished. Punishing someone for following and staring is simply too vague and would be heavily abused. At the core this is what happened. BL would have stopped the reply from ever going through.
This is not IRL it is a video game. Come on we are gamers on the internet. First of are you telling me you cannot see someone blowing up and turning someone following them into something bigger then what it is?
I have even seen it IRL on a subway. Women calls out a man cause she felt a man was following her. Mind you this is late at night and everyone is heading to the ferry.
Police had to waste their time questioning this man and women because no matter what was said she felt she was being stalked.
What I am saying if something can be abused it will be end of story. Also.having a BL feature that makes a person disappear from the screen? Would it be disabled for things you can queue for?
That probably would be extremely annoying to code don't you think? Where the person is not visible outside of certain actions? Does any game have a BL that functions that way?
English is not my native tongue how is saying what two consenting adults do behind closed doors, and if no one is physically or emotionally condoning pedophilia? What else are we to do police what everyone does behind closed doors just to be on the safe side? How many people would really want that?
Leaving that aside it is a sickness, yes a fine line between having the attraction and attacking on it. All I am saying is maybe just maybe if people were more understanding that this was was a sickness that needs treatment for more that suffer with it will come out willfully and seek help before it is too late.
You will still have those that are evil, but I do not believe everyone that suffers from said psycho sexual disorder is evil what i do feel is that they need help and support not scron and disdain.
Also that screen shot from the other thread was most likely some person trolling trying to get a reaction from people.
Not sure how that is defending it, remember their is a difference between having only the attraction and acting on it. Before that line is crossed they are still a human being and should be treated as such. Their should be a focus on getting the person help above all us before they cross that line.
Why would they be trolling with something so damn serious? You also jokingly told someone you were a pedo. Those consenting adults aren't right for having pedo convos like that. You said it's a game but people can still be affected by the things people say or do such as the stalking. Just because it's in game stalking doesn't mean the person because the character wouldn't feel violated. Christ, it's common sense.
Yeah that's not creepy at all. I'd report them and blacklist. Keep reporting if they send you more tells. Fine if they want to be in the same area but they need to respect other people while doing so.
So what exactly do you want to be done? Police every aspect of everyone's life? For the same reason you have people that call those that play lalafell pedos, or those that make dumb edgy jokes on social media people are weird.
Yes, I did jokingly told someone that kept calling me a pedo for playing lalafell and referred to anyone that played a lalafell as a creep. Many of us made light of a serious topic to get back at that person. Was it right? Meh idk but it was funny.
At the core maybe that is why they said it. Sure a person is behind the screen but to what extent should we go to protect the people behind the screen? Should the person that made that comment have their information released to the police by SE?
Should we have camera's in everyone's room irl to make sure no one is being harmed or abused? How else do you Police what two consenting adults do in private? Is that a world where people want to live?
Sure it is weird and not right, but it is not illgeal. I just so do not think we should go down the rabbit hole of passing judgment on people for potential harm cause we all have the potential to cause harm, and to really protect people from potential harm or uncomfortable situations we would have to establish more proactive measures which sadly are easier to abuse.
If the OP blacklisted the person the moment they felt uncomfortable they would have never gotten a chance to send them a message.
Let's be fair that is probably what the GM would have told them to BL them and move on. If they create a new character or bypass with emotes maybe then they would take further action.
Took a break from this place a few days only to see more pedophelia talk.

The blacklist system should be revamped that I agree. This situation however I don't even think is worth reporting. Just seems like a harmless lonely person with social issues.
If someone is actually stalking you in game though, my advice is to try to change your perspective. Instead of being like "oh god this person again" I think like "haha this idiot is back to waste his time". If you don't give them any attention you are literally just wasting their time.
That after reporting if needed of course.
I do agree with this point SE GM's use to not play. I personally got a warning for making an off color self delete joke about someone that kept dying to titans knock back.
It was even a known meme regarding drgs. They did not play if a player was able to convey a reasonable reason to feel offended then it is likely a GM would at the very least talk to you at the bare minimum.
That is sadly the norm as a game gets older GM staff is one of the first things to go. GM roi is not exactly high.
Me coming back to the thread after a day:
https://media1.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2...BfkQ/giphy.gif
Wasn't my intended purpose. Really just wanted to complain and vent. I don't think there's any way I could have set up any of the arguments that managed to happen in this thread and I'm pretty sure if I were in the level of titanmen I'd be getting involved.
I'm sorry you feel that way and just really sorry about the entire dumpster fire this turned into. I reported the thread and asked for it to be locked.
I'm also just going to straight up stop posting on the forums. It's just better for my mental health. Honestly I hope all the people here that go about witch hunting people about secretly being titanmen get what they deserve which is being stuck on these forums with no one besides themselves and titanmen's many alternate personalities.
I come here a LOT less these days. And I assure you it is better. When you take a step back and realize most of these conversations are exactly the same as they have been for months, and that at the end of the day it doesn't matter what any of the 30 people who regularly come here think (myself included), you can save a lot of energy that would have gone into arguing with people over just about anything you say here.
It's a good idea. It's real "Stages of Grief"-like, your relationship with this place, and this game. I take breaks whenever my sub expires.
Once you've accepted nothing will change, whether that be with the game itself or the people who feel trapped within, it's really freeing.
And surrounding yourself with negativity is no good for anyone. I think it's been well-established how...combative, for a lack of a better word, things have been over the last year.
Like, people defending or handwaving abhorrent behavior is actually some insane stuff.
This place isn't doing any good and is functionally worthless, so unless you are the equivalent to a pig in a mud wrestling gauntlet for masochistic forum discourse, always take care of yourself first!
I think what's sad also is that even if people have legitimate suggestions or criticisms for improvement, I don't feel like anyone from SE cares or considers anything said here on our forums, so it makes getting overly invested - as you said - functionally worthless.
To be fair I do not think they meant the OP was a troll and was a response to my comment that the person shown in the balmung screen shot was most likely a troll.
Someone replied why would someone troll using such a subject. They were just providing an example. Let's no go bashing someone for saying something they did not.
"Consent adults" and "behind closed doors" is a poor defense for pedophilia.
