Im sure you realize no other succesful MMO sells you a skip for "their main selling point of the game"

WoW doesnt sell you raid clears, GW2 doesnt sell you their collect-a-thon stuff, ESO doesnt sell story skips as far as im aware (its been a while)

Square sells you story skips because to them only people populating the latest expansion matters.

To be fair, SE does alot of stupid things, and the story skip goes up to SHB I think. There is no way to skip EW, so they want people to play the latest story at the very least. WoW does sell you the ability to get a class to the latest expansion too, not a raid clear sure but it gets you there faster. ESO does not sell story skips true, but its a bit different with them as you can jump into the latest expansion with any character at anytime so long as you buy it.

Well, if you want to see it as an excuse go ahead. Each to their own and all. I just think its more a case that they are so greedy (Like most AAA studios in this capitalistic hellhole) that they see it both as a selling point they flaunt, but also want to make money off those who are not interested in that part of the game on the side.

Endwalker is definitely a low point in the game for me.

The story is good but hardly great. For every high point there is some considerable drag. It was always going to be hard topping Shadowbringers but I feel Endwalker is much closer to Stormblood... which is not exactly a complicate even if I do feel Stormblood's MSQ gets too much criticism. What really damns Endwalker is the severe lack of content longevity. Almost nothing lasts this expansion either due to paltry rewards or simply there being no actual reason to continue doing whatever releases beyond a few days/weeks. The two major selling points of this expansion were Island Sanctuary and Criterion which... haven't exactly gone over well for the precise reasons I just said. What's frustrating is they both have so much potential but we keep cycling back to the utter lack of longevity. Island Sanctuary becomes nothing more than a glorified retainer venture you visit ten minutes a day or once a week. There's literally nothing else you can do with it once you get the ball rolling.

Say what you will about Eureka or Bozja. They may have been flawed but they gave you a reason to keep playing. The same cannot be said for almost anything Endwalker has offered.

The newest Extreme is a lot of fun. I recommend trying it!

Once you learn it, don't join prog parties because they will always get stuck on some of the mechanics and it'll be draining. But it's only draining because this is a harder fight to learn than some of the other extremes. Once you've got it on farm, it's a lot of fun just to farm it.

What i feel with XIV is that the highs are SUPER HIGH but the lows as well are greatly noticable
Not long ago i did a SHB and EW new game+, doing now a HW one as well, but only gonna talk about those 2 because have them fresh
In SHB you have moments like Hades, Thancred "death", Elidibus WOL, Exarch sacrifice which are just 11/10 moments and leave your mouth with great taste but then I noticed moments like being distracted in fairy land, II megh mine section or to some extent Kholusia, tho that last goes more to personal i would say
EW was kinda worse and noticeable, Garlemald, Zodiark, Elpis on the great scheme and that final fight with Meteion and Zenos are just so good but then you have Moon phase and Laberynthos wich are just, too bad imo

As a note have to say the experience was way more light due to me having flying unlocked (Looking at you Labyrinthos)

Okay then, explains why I’m currently having way more fun in ESO with lore bits, exploration and adventure.
Because in FFXIV so far, there is literally 0 exploration or sense of adventure. It’s way too railroaded, so many parts of the map are not used and either a background for 2mins of MSQ/Tribe dailies or FATE grind (which seems to be only done the first weeks of an expansion, then forgotten).

It’s a pity because the game has really good maps, if only they were used for something.

When it comes to EW story, at the time I was playing it I thought it was great. Now that I've had some time to stew on it and think about it, I've found it to be kind of meh. Lots of weird contrivances in the plot and the like.

The patch story has been pretty dull though.

For me I put Endwalker at like 3rd place so heavensward, shadowbringers, Endwalker, stormblood then ARR. I also treat Endwalker as it’s worse if you take the story on it’s own but it’s better combined with shadowbringers it’s sort of like how avengers endgame isn’t a good movie but it’s made better if you combine it with infinity war. In regards to the content types and gameplay I feel Endwalker has definitely gone for variety and that’s been refreshing it’s just as of yet lacks long term rewards for running said content. I feel of relic had a zone to explore or required more to do then just tomes people wouldn’t be as critical.

I also feel Endwalker has done so much foundational work (for better or worse with dungeon redesign or boss mechanic changes) then any other expansion on top of consistent QoL they have really honed in on the new player experience and for the most part it’s a lot of great changes. Just sadly with their finite resources and team size it can come across like endgame players got shafted for them reworking core elements for new players but for me personally il take that hit and won’t say much unless 7.0 follows the same trajectory.

That's okay OP, everyone likes different things. I actually enjoy EW more than ShB but SB is still my #1 favorite. :)

Idk. I'd take EWs drag portions over ShB any day. The Telos section alone is worse than any dragged section in EW imo. I don't to much compare the ShB and EW story because EWs is an extention of ShBs to me. It wouldn't be here without it so I treat it as a full package. (Ik that sounds weird but I hope you get what I mean).
While a valid point content longevity is partially a player made issue. Content a particular person may not like doing would be considered bad. But the next person may like it. Sure I can look back n say "Eureka n Bozja kept you busy" but ik for a fact most of that busy time was not spent having fun. It was a bloated grind for the sake of wasting time n I can't say I fully miss that. Deep Dungeon hits a better sweet spot.

Also a point many skip over, EW has had some amazing QoL improvements andci feel tat should be applauded

The tonal shift around level 61-63 is something the story just didn’t recover from. It’s also not fun just showing up and almost being guaranteed a clear. The stratification of content is not particularly healthy in my eyes.

Thing is I only feel HW and ARR stuff was considered "hard" due to lack of player experience with the game. 6+ years in normal content probably won't feel as crazy to said person/people. There's also the savage debate ofc but thas for a different camp than myself these days.
EW to me has hit a nice sweet spot. You aren't steamrolling
everything but you also aren't full wiping often either. I can at least say (in my experience ofc) EWs set of raids have killed more than most, even to this day. Shoot p12 is still a bit of a block for me at some parts idk what it is xD
But I'd say if strat is what you're after the game clearly puts out where you'll get it from. Savage, Unreal, Ultimate.

As for the tonal shift that's for the better imo. Many things in ARR and even some aspects of HW are very one dimensional. Not something I particularly care for and that pivot was smart. The pivot has only helped make the game more n more successful so I couldn't objectively call it bad even if I wanted

It is both great and absolutely terrible.
It's great that it has some teeth to it and feels engaging, but every 2nd mechanic is simply an 8-man body check. This leads to your weakest link quickly becoming a brick wall to your progression because there is literally nothing you personally can do to compensate for them, that is already annoying in savage so I really don't need it in extreme as well.

That is a factor too of course, but I think the simplified rotations and their bloated potencies have not really been of benefit, particularly in old content. Storm’s eye for example was 270 potency and by 5.5 hit 420. Currently it’s sitting at 440 caster potency which is greater still I think, but could have that backwards. It just doesn’t seem to have any benefit to me, particularly for those who want to dip their toes into higher end content. The extreme step up in difficulty and personal responsibility from none to some in a lot of cases is quite stark. I find the normal & alliance raids most fun on day 1, the former before everyone has a chance to outgear and do it without thinking.

That's fair. I think old content really can't be helped when it comes to that. Tbf in that respect you have 2 years to do it while it's relevant. Generally most will be unsyncing those though some do min ilvl (which is quite fun, should do some if you haven't yet).
Alliance week 1 I'd say is the best yeah. Having that room for error and seeing possible alliance wipes is fun. Naturally that luster will be lost as time goes on.

Not that second portion I find interesting. I can't point to poeple like Hades, Hermes, Venat, Zenos or even the story surrounding one dimensional. The very fact EW is so controversial (here at least) kinda tells me it's far from one dimensional. Friendship has been present since the dawn of 14 so I can't personally use that as a point against the game. Youll always be stronger with friends, that's just statistics. The world now is still very much grounded, the scope is just wider imo (Considering we have different worlds now).

As a counter example, look at the worldbuilding for sharlayan over the years. It’s followed the exact path that the brotherhood of steel has in fallout, losing the dubious morality and extreme isolationism in favour of the bowdlerised parody of itself. All the nuance and darker undercurrent has been sanded off, making it significantly harder to care for as a result. Ala mhigo was built up from 1.0 only to be ignored for a jaunt to the far east with a shallow revolution. I think norvrandt only got away with it because it’s the familiar twisted and in the post apocalypse. For characters, the mundanity of lolorito and both halves of that rival lalafell felt more relatable than the whole universe’s despair being thrown around. Even gaius, the invading garleans and their succession issues offered a more grounded problem. Then they decided the garleans weren’t allowed any foot to stand on with the retcon about primals draining the land. I dunno, hades worked as a villain because it was a reflection of the player character to an extent, it’s only lead to them tying themselves in knots with regard to morality since. The ascians being cackling madmen wasn’t great, but their dealings with thordan was a nice use of villains having competing goals. There just doesn’t seem to be the kind of inter character conflict there used to be. I hope this wasn’t too rambly.

Time travel, space travel, planet travel, technological advance fallen empire, great all of it great. The Story after the conclusion of Endwalkwer is horrible. So what do you want to do now? I know, lets travel to different planets, visit the past or explore the moon more. No, we will talk about our feelings and learn to trust for the next year. We will stare at food every time and act like we're learning to walk for the first time.

How about we explore the most technological advance race? No, we will go to India where a dragon can live out its fantasy by playing with life like dolls with us.

Zeros personality is boring and not enjoyable to watch. Her learning to trust is dreadfully boring to watch. did we really need this many patches of backstory to her finally say you're worth staying with? Is she incapable of seeing gain? Is she really that dumb compared to her 13th world counterparts? I wish she had intelligence, common sense or at least be like, "yeah I get it, now lets go smash things. Why couldn't we find a void in the 13th that wanted to be fun? I cant even stomach playing any of the new patches. Its all the same and nothing interesting. Only reason I came back for the 3rd time is the house. I need to get rid of it.

Please no more main story suicidal emo characters. Would rather of had Zenos rival personality as our ally than Zero. No more long drawn out build ups.

ShB had less content overall than EW.
ShB content was better overall though because it had longevity and actual incentive to run the content vs anything EW has given apart from the Raids and Ultimates.
Bozja is far and away better than V&C Dungeons because it rewards you for the time investment, either with your relic, glamours, several mounts, emotes, etc. and is a great way to level jobs.
V&C the rewards are practically non-existent, consisting of mostly materia with no gear that would actually aide you in the content itself, just pure glamour (Bozja at least had 3 different sets of gear that could be used to gear out jobs for each stage of the expansion).
Island Sanctuary is just a spreadsheet simulator for all the good it's used for. It has plenty of mounts and glamours for sure, but so did Ishgard Restoration and that has the benefit of leveling your Crafters and Gatherers at least.

So what "Quality" is there in EW content? So far, there seems to be more bugs than anything, like Close Caloric being reapplied in P12S.

Back in Shb all I heard was complaints about how it was worse than Eureka and that it was just an over glorified fate zone. It only had longevity because it was fate farming which accrued exp to level up. It was the fastest way to level jobs, even over roulettes. Bozja is better than Island, but let's not pretend that Bozja was the perfect piece of entertainment the world had ever seen because it wasn't. I don't want current relic, and I surely don't want Bozja back. I don't want to settle for something subpar because something worse was the alternative.

Your comment was a generalization of the game as a whole, which was false because ShB was universally loved, despite its lack of content. Sure, the lack of content in ShB was a sour point for the expansion as a whole but the quality of the content was never called to question. EW doesn't have this same distinction because, despite having more quantity of content, the quality is absolutely awful, hence the complaints about the quality of it.

I don't think that's the case at all. For quite some time one of the biggest complaints towards the game has been the lack of content with staying power that is designed to appeal to players who are all caught up on the latest content patches. It's pretty rare to see people ask for endless content to keep them entertained every hour of every day yet deliberate design decisions have been made throughout Endwalker to chip away at the usual offerings with longevity. We have no relic zone this time around and multiple relic weapon steps have involved tomestones. We have no optional trial series this time around as trials are tied to the MSQ's.

The game has doubled down on pandering heavily to new players and those who spend most of their time attending venues and taking screenshots of their characters. Those of us who actually want a world to explore, meanwhile, are left wanting - and the offerings for that specific key component of pretty much every other MMO on the market have been increasingly lacking here.

Thus do people who still manage to maintain a modicum of hope for the game course correcting in the future continue to leave feedback related to the matter.

This is much better than literally every single other person that has replied to me so far. Thank you for not putting words into my mouth and misinterpreting what I said and gaslighting me into a spot of things that I never said. I will answer you cause you were far more polite than every other person that had replied to me. Especially Silver-Strider.

You are the first to make an actual point that counters what I said. "Biggest complaints towards the game is the lack of content". So, believe it or not, I do feel the quality of the content is shit. And a lot of the content isn't going into parts of the game that I personally give a rat's ass about and instead used for things such as the duty support system. Like it's great, but it's taking away attention from other parts of the game. It still counts as content technically, just not fun content catered towards me and my needs. The lack of a new explorer zone is a bummer. And I even said earlier that Bozja was better than what we have now. It's just even back in Shadow Bringers I remember people feeling like Bozja was lacking even for it's time. We're in a far worst spot now than we were then but I do recall people hoping the next relic zone would be better than Bozja. Now we're in a position where we appreciate Bozja only because they gave us worse, and it sucks that they constantly give us crap content and then give us worse content if we underappreciate the original thing.

Doubling down on pandering to new players is a take I 200% get behind. I'm with you all the way on that one. It bothers me to no end. Unlike what many people had originally thought, my original comment was actually directed at people saying ARR and HW had the better content. ARR did give a lot of content per patch. But it wasn't great content. Like 3 dungeons at the time is amazing, but they were still just nothing special dungeons. Same formula that we still have today but with a new coat of paint. Enough to keep us distracted for a bit. I wouldn't call those dungeons good quality dungeons, there was just more of them back then and that's it. The Relic again was something to do and like, we really do need something to do. But I refuse to ever under any circumstance acknowledge that ARR relic was fun content. But based off earlier comments made in this thread, people gave me the impression that they don't mind if the content is trashy if there is just enough content to go around. If I was wrong in that feeling, then I apologize. But based of the other comments behavior I simply did not feel like talking to them.
