I like how you equate lack of combat in ff14 to a player skipping fights due to their own decisions in another game. Throwing logic away before making that claim i see :).

Lol okay, obsess over it. I really don't care. You can't claim maintenance mode when content is still being added and you project it will take another two years to die.
And even if it dies in two years and you're still obsessed over the fact that two people dared to disagree with you on a video game forum, I still won't care and won't backtrack. I won't even remember this thread existed.
but imagine if chocobo racing *was* more like mario kart.......*w*
anywa
i think, or at least hope, there's a lot of certain improvements coming in 7.0..like graphical...HOPEFULLY...if that's the case i honestly wouldn't mind absolutely nothing new from next patch until 7.0 if there's a lot of reworking things overall to improve.......even just like the coding and engine or whatever
anyway this always happens towards the end of an expansion doesn't it things slow down
and yes yoshi working on ff16 or whatever is probably part of the reason things have been slow but
i think it's just. busy work with 7.0 too. also the new dungeon sneak-peeks look gorgeous and i dont think ppl appreciate the time and effort that goes into a whole new dungeon bc we breeze thru it and rarely stop to appreciate how it looks bc people rush
what if they added onto eureka/bozja or w/e to make it so the older relics use that too? so people get to keep going back for diff relics
bc a whole new area for one relic that you're only there for during the time you're working on that one relic is suuuuch a waste, imo, genuinely
You mean right at the height of the next expansion? Sounds like a great idea.
To say this game is in maintenance mode while actively getting content updates and live streams talking about updates all the way up to 7.0 is pure trolling. You have no idea what maintenance mode is. This game has more players at this point in the current expansion time frame than the last two expansions had. Just because the content isn't stuff you like doesn't suddenly make the game in maintenance mode. Personally I love deep dungeons and hated the crappy grinding content of Eureka/delubrum/bozja so I'm quite content with the recent patches. Everyone is different, but actual maintenance mode is a game like swtor where its "expansion" is 30 minutes of story and a new planet that's smaller than a daily area and no new content for the next 12 months.
Is it a world you live in? Id argue other games make a better world. FF14 right now is a interactive movie, a visual novel. The world is barren, dead and most zones only serve as a background for the MSQ quick to be abandoned after. Probably why they put 0 effort into them.
At this rate, we're gonna reach a point where the only living community in the game is the club/social scene, and it's kept alive by daily player-driven updates (if you get my drift) while Square gives us a recolored dungeon twice a year, charges us once per month, and then pats themselves on the back in a JP-only live letter for their hard work this year.
Ah the infamous ransu! I think we traded blows in the pvp forums as well if i remember correct but anyway.... This has nothing to do with me liking content and everything to do with the level of laziness that was on full display throughout entire expansion. Yoshi has committed to 7.0 so im aware that content is still being developed and live letter marketed but after the graphic update is done and 7.0 is released i truly believe the drop off will be felt by those who don't already feel it and recognize the writing on the wall. Difference between me and my attackers are...im willing to take accountability if im wrong. Will you?
Obviously FFXIV is not under maintenance mode but certainly feels like! Every update feels the same: MSQ, minions, mounts and...new challenges with no meaningful rewards!
I hope we get more activity after FFXVI launch.
I do have more fun doing tribal quests and HoH than anything else, in shadowbringers i had more fun with Bozjan and Nier raids. For some reason i don't have the same hype for the Twelve or Eureka Orthos.
Lazy relic grind is not helping too.
However, i am not sure if it's FFXIV fault or my fault.
I miss how MMORPGs in general felt more immersive in the past with competitive pvp environments for territories (perfect world, cabal, lineage 2, ArcheAge), planing and necessity of interactions to grow up.
The "oldschool" MMORPG idea was based on leveling grinding and the journey...i still don't know which approach is better. Eureka and Bozjan satisfy this concept for a while but they are short.
I miss logging in, opening my friend list and calling friend A, B or C to farm something meaningful... in FFXIV what we can do? roulette? some specific mount farm? and when i can use mounts except for island and open world? how much time we spent in open world environment except for gathering, hunts or rare fates? i feel like we have too much diverse content with no depth at all, our rewards is excessively disperse.
I feel like tomestone gear is OP and kills open world quests/farm/challenges...you can one shot anything with a few exceptions like fates and hunts.
My rotted brain miss the old dopamine "i farmed like a maniac for this equipment and finally its paying off" while big numbers jumps in my screen =p
I tend to agree. I've been so bored lately, and I'm a bit of a casual, even. And let me point out that it's the community that comes up with very lovely solutions to things like lighting, poor character quality, and house decorating tools. Sometimes I wonder what SE does with our money when I see these types of solutions that exist outside of the game. Obviously, many of these problems are fixable, but SE refuses to address them. I've been gaming on & off since college in the 90s (yeah boomer/grandma/whatever you guys want to call me), and we're in a place that most games of this generation are...they need a desperate overhaul and much more attention to survive. If I saw anything more promising coming down the pipes, I'd likely be gone, but overall, I think the state of the MMO genre is sad right now. I will forever hope it improves. I hope SE starts listening to its community and making better choices. There is a lot of good to work with, but the game and its systems need improving.
P.S. The housing and glamour systems are trash and continue to be trash.
This game is far from maintenance mode. Id argue it the second most successful MMMORPG on the market today, even with the obvious and undebatable drop off in subs we have seen in EW.
Regarding yours and others points about midcore content IDK I mean different people have different interpretations of what even midcore content even is. To some people, their lack of skill, confidence, social abilities etc. is a barrier to even extremes that would be seen well beyond midcore.
I think your point about the community coming up with solutions to the game's problems is spot on and probably has a lot to do with why the social scenes are still very active while the gameplay parts of the game are more sparse or full of people complaining and wanting more. I'm definitely not advocating for this or anything, but player-created outfits and hairstyles get released every day. Several a day. That's how prevalent it is. For a vanilla player, you're waiting like 6 months for a hairstyle you might not even like. The community "came up with a solution" to this problem, and for everyone who embraced that solution, there's suddenly new aesthetic content. Every day. Multiple times a day. And most of it is free.
All I'm saying is rather than ban these people, SE should thank them for doing the job SE should've been doing this entire time. I'd be embarrassed as hell if my own players showed me up this hard, this often, for free, and my only recourse was to ban them and then implement their QoL fixes a year later anyway.
My lad, I'm literally replaying LoTRO right now. Half of Epic is running, talking and reading. One particular expac is almost all about "go there, talk to an NPC, move to the next location; you can do side quests there if you want, but you don't have to".
Half of SWTOR story is flying around and talking, tho all cutscenes there's voiced, I give it that.
Half of ESO story is running and talking.
I dunno what other or new MMOs cool kids playing these days and don't really care, but in my expirience? It's always has been like that with main stories, no need to pretend like ff14 is somehow worse in that regard.
I agree 100%. Glamour (in the sense of aesthetics/appearance) is cool but they have little meaning if everyone has the same power... in the old days, appearance represented your power. Strong character = cool looking character. I am not saying that casual looking like FFXIV does is bad, i am just saying that something is missing.
I hope the next gen of MMORPGs (2030+?) find a equilibrium between both concepts (gear progression vs casual progression).
I feel like a lot of the complaints that I see about the game on these forums, from the same half dozen or so people, feels like going into League of Legends and then complain that there isn't enough capture the flag or if they keep coming back to McDonalds, every single day only to post online how ridiculous it is that McDonalds doesn't have steak. No. They dont have steak. Its McDonalds. IDK I mean its just weird. This is Final Fantasy XIV. It's never going to be WoW or another game, because WoW and other games already exist.
I mean, I guess on one hand they have the right to come here and complain and ask for the game to be whatever they want, but it just feels lilke a bizzare waste of time to me.
On the other hand, ive been that guy for years on the WoW forums, until I realized I was playing the wrong game.
I've also played those and most popular MMOs. I'm sure others here have as well.
It's not the same experience, as much as you want to sit here and believe that. Most of those games even let you coop the story.
It's like your brain forgot 90% of XIV MSQ somehow. You also forget the fact that XIV basically forces you to run through the whole MSQ before you're allowed to even do any side-content for that expac. Island Sanctuary? Variant? POTD 3? Give me a break. lol

Also idk wtf you're smoking. "Kids these days" - Brother, older MMOs didn't even have MSQ. You ran outside and got dumpstered in the first 5 minutes of the game.
Mf Gary Gygax spoke sweet nothings in my ear while I was getting my ass beat in DDO. THAT MSQ? lol
You are not wrong.
As i see, the problem is the market tendency. Every modern MMORPG is doing the same thing.
Like in the past competitive pvp or levelling grind was the rule, today, the new rule is casual content and skin/glamours/transmogs everywhere.
The conclusion is obvious "don't play MMORPG for a while then"
Well..outside of FFXIV, i am spending my time in AoE 1, Stellaris and Warhammer =p
So true. With its 110 hours of cutscenes, FFXIV is by far the longest RPG ever released and is likely on par with an entire year of new Netflix exclusives. It’s a giant movie where you can just sit back and watch the game play itself, and we’re all here for it.
And when you’re done with the story, you can go play your other games which actually have gameplay. In fact, you can just unsubscribe and play all the other games you want and then just watch all the cutscenes in a year’s time like binging on Netflix. Isn’t that awesome? FFXIV is the game you DON’T have to play, and we’re all hyped as hell for 6.4 and Zero and all that shit.
(Normally I try to mock you people, but at this point it’s becoming a bit tiresome since you still, actually, unironically think like this. Hopefully Yoshi-P bans all the modders so they’re forced to come to terms with how little patch content there is.)
BUT I CRIED OVER 9,000 TIMES!! SOKEN DIED FOR THIS
So you admit that your original post is false.
Or you don't know what maintenance mode is, here I'll help: "Maintenance mode is the point when an MMO is being maintained reliably but isn't being actively developed any longer."
So no, we are not in maintenance mode. If you feel the content is lazy, then say that, don't make up sh*t just to look cool on a forum.
Because there are many, many social aspects of FFXIV that I enjoy and could not get from a single player or even multiplayer lobby game. To me, logging into a game and seeing many of the same names in the same places day in and day out for months sometimes as I do my in game walks is still quite precious to me, and in fact nothing short of amazing. To always meet new people and hit them with a dote or a wave and have it returned with a "how have you been? learn any new bard music lately? hows your SO doing?" I feel like I am actually part of a small town in an age where community is largely dead in most other MMO'.s. It's very special to me so I fight hard against things that I think would be to the deteriment of the community.
Either way, I disagree about the story. I thought ARR was a fine intro to the characters and world. Heavensward story was a master piece. Stormblood was meh. Shadowbringers, to me, is my favorite story in any form of media period. The characters and story spoketo me on a very personal level. Forgiveness. Redemption. Themes that I needed at a time in my life when i really needed them. Im okay with it if others do not agree. It doesn't detract from my joy of the story at all. Endwalker was pretty good too but it's very much the Return of the Jedi for me. It did what it needed to do but its no Shadowbringers.
This is so funny to me because it perfectly illustrates how you literally don't even understand what you're arguing against or defending papa Yoshi and XIV against, you just feel the compulsive need to do it no matter what.
My main character is on Balmung, and I've been on there since before your WoW streamer e-daddies released you from your 15+ year old shackles and told you to come play this game. Everything that you listed existed before now, and existed simultaneously while the developers were giving us things like Eureka, Bozja or other content that encouraged the community to work together, communicate and actually play the game together. None of this will prevent you from pretending you are your XIV character as you modbeast, send tells asking other players to break ToS with you by swapping Mare codes and doing /beesknees in a totally not ERP venue in the Mist somewhere.
Yeah you definitely seem personally offended that the way I enjoy the game does not line up with the way you do. Im sorry you feel that way.
But to the few relevant points you tried to make, I don't think I ever argued against Bozja or Eureka, but I only slightly dabbled in them and yes, did not find them enjoyable. Its quite possible I may not have given them enough chance. I do however enjoy roulettes and dailies to the point that (much to my SO's horror) I was disappointed to find out mentor roulette was only 2,000 runs for the mount. I feel ike 5,000 or 10,000 would be more appropriate. So when I learned that my first current content relic weapons would be earned by doing the type of content that I already enjoy most in the game, I was, unapologetically overjoyed. Im sorry you dont feel that way.
There might have been a time I was a white knight for a game. There are plenty of things about FFXIV that I find distasteful, bad, unenjoyable, a waste of dev resources etc. But hey if I love the story and am fine with how we get relic weapons now than surely I must attend the church of Yoshi P /s
Im no fan of Eurka and Bozja as ive already stated. I dont defend them. I also was very disappointed with the island. I was surprised that I didn't like it. PvP has a lot of potential but still needs a lot of work. CC is fun but needs to be expanded. There are plenty of weird issues with the glamour dresser database, belts, and little annoyances. This game isn't perfect, but it is definitely my favorite.
No i dont admit its false. Maintenance mode to me = managed decline. Ffxi is in maintenance but still gets active updates does change its definition? What i will say is we all know 7.0 had been in development and that content is already set in stone and decided upon. After that i don't believe development will be anything near what it had been leading up to endwalker thus ushering in what i believe to be maintenance....the writing has been on the wall since they started structuring this game into a single player focused experience. Not if but when ffxvi succeeds also put me on record for officially saying yoshi may see that success as a wanting to seek new heights and please take what you will from that statement.
PS- not to be an a**hole but to be an a**hole....i care about looking cool about as much as u care about my opinion. Could also care less about tryin to impress anyone here its much bigger than that.
The real cancer that’s killing FFXIV is this notion that we don’t need gameplay because everyone loves idling while playing other games. The entire focus of endgame in FFXIV has shifted to being about endless club spam and horrendous mod beasts. Friends have ample time to shoot the shit and engage in water cooler talk because there’s literally nothing else to do. As you indicate, FFXIV is very much the successor to Second Life and VRChat. And we’ve reached the point where white knights actually LIKE that.
I miss FFXIV being a video game.
I know it's subjective but FF14's story is not that sophisticated. It isn't really that profound. Endwalker was actually one of the best stories in terms of themes, especially in Ultima Thule, but it's just constantly marred by fanservice and fanfiction-tier writing. Sure, the themes of FF14 are great, but the writing and character development just do not match. When I evaluate a story I also look at components like style, consistency, coherence, and writing techniques. FF14 has great ideas and themes but the execution is particularly bad, especially in Endwalker. I'm sure I'm not the only one who raised an eyebrow at the writing just as something important is happening in the story. It sometimes also feels particularly childish though I'm not sure if it's intended (like the whole Loporrits segment right as we defeat Zodiark). Really for me I go through the MSQ just to witness the best parts and ideas of the story despite the bad writing and filler.
I qualify it as an obsession if in two years your thought is "haha I have to remind these two random people in that one forum thread that I was right!" It's also very petty and kind of pathetic.
The only way you will be right is if from now until then we don't get a single piece of new content. And no, I don't mean content you don't like or decide to do once or twice. I mean any content at all. No dungeons, no raids, no alliance, no new tomegear, not another relic step, no events, nothing. Since maintenance mode is just bug fixes. And if we do get any content whatsoever, which we are scheduled to get by the end of the month, then well, shucks, the game isn't in maintenance mode and you're just a doomsdayer.
As I said before, you may not like the content added. You may think 4 months is a very long time to wait (I know I do). But to say the game is "officially in maintenance mode" because you don't like the content added or don't feel it to be substantial enough for you is disingenuous at best. Be straight up with how you feel towards the game and stop making hyperbolic statements to justify it. You don't like the content being added! That's okay! The game isn't in maintenance mode
(Moves in, throws out all our shit) "That's much better.." (Idles in Limsa)
"Hey so did you all watch the animu I was talking about the other day?"
"Jenova: [RP] [18+] XOXOXOXOX CLUB BOOTY BUTTS XOXOXOXOX | TONIGHT 8PM - 2AM EST FEATURING DANCING BOOTY AND THE BOOTY SHAKERS | CORT, ROLEPLAY, PILLOWTALK, GAMBA | DISCORD.gg/BOOTYBUTTS"
Personally i think our MSQ is not bad. Easily top 3 of all MMORPGs. My only disappointment happened in Stormblood...i was expecting huge, epic battles but we had little of it at the end lol
I saw a fan made video that captured the spirit of Stormblood better than the game itself

Time travel, permanent death and similar stuff is complicated to deal with and not everyone is capable to do in theory or practice..Shadowlands is a good example of how you should not do it. As i said here... i would not change anything in terms of story telling or ambient.
