Shoha 1 and 2, Senei and guren, Shenten and Kyuten could easily be a single skill with max potency on first hit and reduced potency aoe per enemy hit like other aoes do.

Ogi Namkiri could easily be put into the same button as ishikoten considering you have to use ishi to even use ogi...

If they wanted to make room for new skills there are SO MANY other options they could have done. They didn't get rid of kaiten because of bloat, they got rid of it because they wanted to remove crit variations and make our iajutsus stuff auto crit so they could have an easier time balancing the damage for DSR. Their action bloat excuse was pure nonsense.

That's...not how kaiten worked. And the auto crits are just as bad if not worse than losing kaiten. The loss of kaiten also means that all you use kenki for is spamming shinten. There's no resource management anymore.

Firstly, The 50% damage boost could also crit, and considering the potency changes in 6.1, the pre-6.1 kaiten + midare or kaiten + ogi that did not crit hits for the same amount as "crit" midare and ogi now. Secondly, current combo buttons like Gekko and Kasha can crit-dh almost as much as just crit Midare, and crit-dh Midare can hit as much as just crit Ogi, which negates the whole "build up stickers for a big hit" aesthetic that was inherent to samurai since its inception. Also, crit is not "double damage"; damage from crit strikes varies as crit hit stat, same as crit chance stat. Moreover, kaiten gave a slight bump to the damage floor and learning curve, as well as much needed variation in kenki expenditure, not to mention the animation which looked cool.

That's the TLDR response for your questions.

It sounds like you don't even understand the situation of samurai to even begin understanding why so many are annoyed at the removal of Kaiten. The numbers themselves aren't the reason although they do have an effect; the problem is that the game feel that kaiten provided has been removed for no reason. Kaiten was at once a kenki resource management check to make sure you weren't over-spending on shinten and a focusing ability to get one ready for a large payoff for playing correctly.

If we're going to talk pure numbers, then remember that a Kaiten Setsugekka could also crit, meaning it did that much more damage for a dopamine hit that SAM no longer has. If we're going to talk composition, SAM no longer plays well with SCH, DRG, or most importantly, DNC because all three buff crit rate and not crit damage, which is a useless buff when SAM has auto-crits. All of that is secondary though since, again, the point is that SAM's game feel has been damaged harshly for no explained reason.

No, current iteration of sam dps is lower than max dps prior to 6.1. The main difference is since iajutsus always crit the damage is consistent so while its not "bad" and they still do a lot of dps, the overall playstyle is simply boring now. A auto crit midare now is 27-30k which was basically what it hit in 6.0 without a crit. Direct hit crits in 6.0 could easily crit for 60k+

Shinten doesn't really make up for the damage bonus from kaiten and shinten in itself is ridiculously boring to use. Kenki serves no purpose anymore either.

Kaiten was a resource button that gave our Resource gauge meaning. Without it? it's really shallow.

Kaiten was a 20 Kenki resource spending Skill that amplified the next Weaponskill by 50% damage. Samurai's would usually apply this to Higanbana a 1 min Damage over time (DoT), Midare Setsugekka a hard hitting skill and Ogi Namikiri your hardest hitting Skill that also AoE's for your main rotation. During Dungeons or something like Fate farming AoE, Tenka Goken and Ogi Namikiri would be amplified with Kaiten.

Because we have a Cap limit of 100 Kenki max that we could hold, Kaiten forces a Samurai player that wants to do utmost damage, to really make good use of Kenki Management. You can't just Kaiten everything, that's a damage loss. Kaiten would also be consumed if you used the wrong skill like a Dash or Enpi that you would not want. When a boss has phase transitions, you would need to think a tiny bit more on how to spend your Kenki and Kaiten when a boss becomes targetable again mixed with Meditate.

There's also something called " Raid Buffs " that you would want to align resources that you hold onto and not just throw out because you could, saving as much as possible. Add Kaiten to this and it does require an extra Braincell which many find satisfying since it does take some skill expression. Not a whole lot, but at least something to increase damage output.

Kaiten also had flare, a good feel animation, and without AutoCrits, it allows us to really Crit high on each hit. So not so much our performance being the issue here since our damage fluctuations having possible low-lows but amazing very high-highs and I do mean high which is the satisfaction the job has - that Yoshi P even admitted in the previous Live letter.

Seigan was the main draw for me for SAM because it was a mechanic unique to SAM that rewarded attentive, good gameplay with dps or could be used for an additional, albeit small, clutch heal if things went south. The rest, like combos, building big nuke-y burst was pretty whatever for me because it's basically the same basic concept across all melees: do 123 until shiny things happen and big hits go BRRR. I like the aesthetic of SAM, I think Kaiten nailed what the class is about but what really kept me interested in it and made me take it into savage at least a few times was The whole Third Eye/ Seigan mechanic.

Of all the buttons they could have merged or removed they chose the one thing that was truly unique to SAM.
Huge red flag for me and surprise, surprise, they doubled down on this path.

Auto crit is such a terrible design though. They don't benefit from current buffs and if they change the buffs in a way that impacts potency you have to reduce potency on the auto crits, but then the auto crits feel even less good without said buff in your party leading to a complete nightmare scenario.

All the auto crits imo should be removed and just have things crit based on stats.

Ahh, another seigan enjoyer. So nice to see I'm not the only one still mourning its loss.

You know, there's still solutions that could be made to bring it back. They could have Third Eye proc Shinten into Seigan.

But I'm also still wishing all the kenki costs and kenki positionals still existed like they did in ShB. I didn't realize positionals had been changed to damage until I looked at the tooltips regarding the removal of kaiten and wow was that such a disappointing change.

I don't think that's going to happen (unfortunately). I'm convinced that they have a potency number in mind and any ability with a higher potency is going to be auto crit/DH. I think what they're going to do instead is update buffs like Battle Litany to give a flat damage bonus on auto crit abilities to make up for it. I'm thinking that's their "crit/DH rework." Alternatively, they'll take auto crit away and drastically lower the crit/DH chance/bonus.

It showcases that they could and it's from far from impossible. Then again so many apologists make it sound like Square and the Dev's have to adhere to this unwritten scripture, this mythical schedule that they cannot possibly divert from.

Which correlates to the problem I listed in my scenario. That is just going to make those jobs literally mandatory for raid groups, something that the dev team is constantly trying to avoid. Auto crits are in general a bad design and the dev team reaaallly needs to wake up to that fact and move away from auto crits in 7.0.

Hagakure was removed on ShB launch because it wasn't being utilized how it was intended, which was GCD correction. It was being used as a hard OGCD potency boost because it shoved the equivalent amount of potency that a Midare gave you into the OGCD space. We call this a "metric fu$$tone" of damage.

It was returned because during that period on ShB launch, it became increasingly apparent that Tsubame Gaeshi being added to the kit required GCD correction, so Hagakure was returned in a heavily altered state - No cooldown, reduced Kenki generation. Essentially being a DPS loss unless being used as a corrective measure to prevent even further DPS loss.

As a Mch player, you've got twice the abilities of me, almost 3 times, and you lost one, and you do way more damage then MCH does.

Okay, so the autocrit makes getting crit bonuses from other classes less useful, that's on the other class, and they are fixing it "soon" so you'll do even MORE damage once that is fixed.

That's the point... Our Damage is achieved so shallow, so effortless, it feels un-rewarding...

Our DPS hits in the moment had very high-highs and that was the appeal, YoshiP said it himself that he knew this is what made the job satisfying, for anyone who wants to question the big man.

Now with Auto-Crits? it feels flaccid and empty and horrible. Wanna make a case that in a 8 minute duration fight our DPS is more reliable with less fluctations in DPS and there for better performing? go have at it. Do I care for this? No. Cause they changed our gameplay both to be less satisfying and dumber.

Plenty care only about Being Nr1 DPS yeah totally. And Plenty of us like myself care more about " how satisfying a job feels to play. " not just a performance number yes. Then no matter how top our performance may be, it will mean very little if it removed so much fun, nuance, and any ounce of skill-expression out of the job we came to care so much for.

As for MCH? idk anything about MCH. All I hear is that they are in a spot of which they do need some love. Do I believe an equally geared and performing MCH should be capable to out-DPS an equally geared and performing SAM? At the moment? No. Would I care if they did? No. Speaking for myself though, I just want my gameplay back that was satisfying. I am not here to have a e-peen race in victimhood.

You want to compare Ranged DPS to Melee DPS go ahead idc, I care about what they ripped out of our skill-kit that was so fun only to fix -> nothing with no good excuse to have done so. If you want to make a case for MCH? go make a thread and power to you.

I don't care about damage right now because that's not the core problem, but to answer your question no, dps did not go up. Its lower than 6.0's, but its more consistent dps.

You don't know how the job plays, you didn't even know what kaiten actually did. Please excuse yourself from these threads because your input is not useful.

Without Kaiten the kenki gauge just becomes a “spam shinten gauge”, the auto crit reduced overall damage and reduced its synergy with other powerful raidbuffs like dance partner and chain, and all for what, none of the changes were needed or did anything

I mean about the only job in the entire history of the game that has legit been on an upwards course in terms of synergy, complexity and interesting gameplay is BLM, healers are…….healers in 6.0, the mystical MCH rework of 5.0 that was supposed to be a foundation for which to build on left us with the most useless job since toilet paper lily WHM, SMN is flashy but completely brain dead and choiceless, WAR still hasn’t recovered from 4.2, the physical ranged role is hanging on by a thread by virtue of the 5% role type bonus

People are allowed to be angry because it’s been well evidence since about early stromblood that when a job gets changed it’s rarely if ever for the better (about the or exception to that rule is probably MNK, but that’s more virtue of old MNK being that bad, not new MNK actually being good)

To be fair, they have rarely if ever interfered with a current tiers end game balance unless something is outright broken. They leave it alone and say nothing until the next major patch with balance changes. PvP on the other hand is unique in its competitive nature and needs constant tweaking, and CC being new they obviously want to do right by it to keep the queue somewhat popular.

That's a you problem for not knowing the fight and popping a CD when you shouldn't have. Don't blame the skill when the fault was on you who clearly wants no consequences or thought put into your play and just wanna headbang the keyboard.

The problem is that its up the player to learn the fight not just mash a button all willy nilly. As it stands sam to me fill extremely shallow without it. Like the others has said before all it became was spaming two skills Shinten for single or Kyuten due to the gauge being full

I don't know what you guys problem is, i like the Samurai a lot more now, selfbuffs are not inconvinient to apply at the start of a fight and don't run out because the boss suddenly decides to go away and cant be attacked anymore, Kaiten was a useless skill wasting a hotkey space, so good thats gone.

DPS mains learn what healers have routinely been subjected to since 4.5

Trying to explain to a DPS main that healers basically went from 6.0 BLM to 6.0 MCH in terms of how much they regressed and that all healers were given the same treatment so you don’t have a choice and you just see the horror finally dawn in their eyes

Currently huffing copium, hoping they address the changes in the 6.2 liveletter.

I tried the new SAM. I hate it, everyone seems to as well. Just revert, it's literally not hard. I do not understand how copy + pasting the code or whatever for 6.0 Samurai is difficult in anyway and why it won't be done in the face of overwhelming negative reactions.

I suspect this will be exactly what they do without realizing the impact it will have on those jobs. Suddenly giving Warrior a flat damage buff from Chain Strat, Litany and Battle Voice will be a massive DPS gain on Inner Release and Inner Chaos. Granted, Warrior needs a buff. So this does sort of help that. However, it also makes those three jobs I just mentioned mandatory for a Warrior. Which is precisely the problem they desperately tried to get away from in Shadowbringers after the sheer dominance of DRG/NIN/BRD in the previous expansions.
