Why no new servers? Not just this launch but the last 8 months?

Please read the comment and don't straw man me. I did read both posts but find them wanting. This was the same response they gave last time in greater detail. I do keep up with the notices in the launcher because they hold a lot of helpful information. This has gone past a properly worded PR post. I was respectfully expressing my frustration at the fact the Dev's didn't do enough to be prepared. This is a reasonable criticism to have for the current situation.

What more do you expect them to do? They warned back in July that the player count had exploded and connection issues would happen, they warned several times before Endwalker that issues would happen, and they explained why they would happen and their current plans to help alleviate the issues. They just can't pull hardware out of no where, they tried to pay triple the prices for some things and were simply told no, since the hardware just didn't exist.

So again, what more do you expect them to do? What do you feel, they should have done, even after the many warnings they issued.

Its almost like there's been a dangerous virus ravaging the world for the past year and a half now. A year and a half ago Shadowlands was just releasing and no one knew exactly how badly that expansion was going to fail expectations (failed even worse than Battle for Azeroth, I might add) and nor was anyone anticipating a sudden shitstorm of lawsuits hitting Blizzard and causing even more players to leave. So no, SqE didn't see any of this coming until we were deep into Covid-19 and a working class that refuses to work until they get better pay or whatever.

SqE has already acknowledged the problem, so now you're just going to cry that their attempt to purchase hardware necessary way above the market average still didn't yield any product? Good for you, I guess? You can't just make hardware appear from thin air regardless of how much money you toss at it.

My que times are about the same though... Like a couple minutes.

And servers aren't easy to get currently due to certain chip and part shortages worldwide due to Covid

Didn't the devs specifically said in a letter that they couldn't open up more servers because they couldn't secure the required hardware?

I accept this explanation months ago. You are honestly telling me knowing this is a major issue that they have not found some way or made some progress. The problem has only gotten worse. How long until they do something that lasts longer then a single expansion. This is not the first time this has happened and at this point it is a fair criticism to have. I like this game a lot like I have said but it is still fair to say they have failed at fixing this problem for a long time. I am not asking to get in with no wait on day one of a new expansion. What I am asking is to not have to wait over an hour to get in as well as being booted from the queue more than once. It is too much to ask for perfection I agree. I am only asking for tangible improvement.

After finally getting in I am going to go enjoy the game! I hope all of you get a chance to play as well today!

Oh dear, did they really use New World as a good launch? Ouch, I missed that. People were in queue's for weeks, and now the games practically dead after losing almost 90% of its players since no content.

The excuse of there being a lack of semiconductors is true, but SE using that as an excuse for them not to upgrade the servers for over half a year is complete bull****. With the kind of money and influence that SE has, they could've acquired them very easily considering that I can literally go online and put together a 10-20k server build and have it shipped to me within a month's timeframe.

Funny thing, they did do more server work before early access. One reason the game was delayed two weeks, among others. They wanted to be sure the infrastructure could handle most of the load, and honestly? Considering most of the issues are laying with the login server? They did quite well. Very few are getting disconnected from the game, even with massive congestion.

They did make progress, and they are working on it even now. One thing this game does, is work on things. They're stubborn about it, ruthlessly so, doing whatever they can. That's all we can expect.

Covid is absolutely a factor. The world is constantly shutting down borders, limiting access, and making the trickle of goods even slower. It might not be the only reason, but it absolutely is a factor. If you can't see how Covid has slowed down the worlds shipping and supply, then I don't think you understand business.

Amazon is their own server provider. They own Amazon Web Services.

That said, renting Amazon servers and getting an AWS instance to function would not be practical for an MMO like XIV that wasn't built for it from the ground up. It needs dedicated data center hardware, and that's what cannot be had for any price.

But they did make a tangible improvement. Considering the fact that the only server(s) that are overloaded are the log in servers, and we've had next to no issues with the actual game servers so far, that's damn phenomenal. Imagine the shitshow if the log in servers just let anyone in at any time instead of keeping connected players in what is essentially an orderly line? All of the world servers would be on fire and no one would be capable of playing at all. The world servers are doing so well I've not encountered one instance of lag in my five hours of playtime so far tonight despite the fact that you can't even take a single step without running into another player no matter where you go. You probably aren't familiar, but Blizzard Entertainment hasn't had a successful expansion launch in all of the years they've been running World of Warcraft, and they easily have just as much money to toss around as SqE (and none of those expansions were released in the middle of a pandemic!). The reason? They never bothered to implement a log in queue for their log in servers. The game servers would have a bit of a queue, but the log in server would just toss everyone into the game servers en masse, which resulted in constant crashes, disconnects, lag so bad you'd start glitching through the world, etc. It'd take Blizzard a week or more to actually fix the problem permanently. This is tame in comparison.

They had AWS and they still had login issues on launch day. Every MMO suffers this.

Something else people don't consider. Let's say they were able to get servers. EU could definitely use another data center, the US could use an East coast data center. They do have the Oceanic data center in the works. It's not just adding servers. It's getting them set up. Adding a world or two per data center would do very little because a LOT of the issues are the over 17000 people hitting the DATA CENTER'S login at the same time - that's where the 2002 errors are coming from. It might lower the queue time for some heading into their specific world IF they could get people to move to a new server. Many people are attached to their FC, to their house if they have one, to their friends on their server - and aren't going to want to move to a new server.

Also, consider how much trouble they have been having getting the Oceanic Data Center set up. It's not just having the hardware, it's getting the team in place to get everything set up. And that's been problematic with the pandemic.

Yeah, not their fault on not being able to acquire more semi conductors, you would know that if you've shopped for a simple computer within the past few months. (hint, I shopped for a xmas gift in October, delivery not until February through a well known company)

2002 is their bigger issue, hopefully they'll resolve that.

You do know that you getting a server like that is a bare bones server with no special hardware? MMOs on average use different hardware than you would see in a basic Web/File server. Then you have to have special hardware that goes with the code for the things MMOs do. Then on top of that, SQEX probably has other hardware needs due to how their communication is setup. It's not just "go to newegg and click on the server link and buy it" There is way more involved for an MMO company that needs more than one server. They acknowledged this, they apologized for this. If you, or anyone else can't accept that, then I don't know what to tell you except, go find something else to play and give up your login slot to someone who is more than ready to wait in line for a bit and play.

Well thank Hydaelyn my payment to pre purchase hasn't been working through the square enix website. Seems like it's best for me to wait a week or so before buying it.

A stitch in time saves nine.

The servers needed upgrading since before ShadowBringers. Putting it off was the mistake, covid and asmongold just made it worse.

Not as if they didn't have a bunch of spare servers for the planned OCE DC they couldn't have shipped to the US/EU DCs like 4 months ago when they saw the spike in players from the WoW migration.

They could have postponed the OCE DC just like they postponed EW in order to give a better playing experience to their customers.

What about our oce customers are you saying your more Important then them? Sounds pretty entitled to me.

How many people would be willing to move to another data center o world? So many of us are invested in our worlds - our friends are here, our FCs are here, those who have houses don't want to give them up. Many of the streamers joined worlds they already knew people were playing that they could play with so gravitated to certain worlds. Some of the influx of the newer players would have diverted to the new data centers, of course, but many wanted to join specific worlds to play with people they knew already played. Not to mention the fact that even if they had chosen to use the servers bought for the OCE data center for EU/US, they still would have had the issues they ran into in getting OCE set up. The installation teams still wouldn't have been able to travel. Squeenix would have had to lease space for the new data centers, or hope the existing server housing was big enough to add more.

People are defending Yoshi P and his team because A. They've clearly done the best they could under the current circumstances of the world. And B. Yoshi P and his team have earned a lot of good will since 2.0 launched and thus people are inclined to have a less cynical view than if it were Activision Blizzard. People have a right to be mad about the situation, but people have to realize it is not really 100% SE's fault. And this is not me blindly supporting them. They even publicly made posts of what the problem is and warned people this would most likely happen at launch ahead of time due to this.

Before the explosion in popularity, pre-covid basically, the servers were able to adequately handle the players attempting to log in. So why would they update them all at this time. Shadowbringer's launch had some ques but not this bad of stability issues, basically just a 5-10min wait to get in which is acceptable in my opinion for a major AAA launch. Move to the time of the Cov and the monstrous population boom.... well the old stuff is simply being worked beyond capacity and SE cannot get the parts to fix the problem.

The supply chain shortages in the world are hurting all industries. Exact same reason car factories in the US are Idleing the whole plants on and off even with a huge demand for vehicles atm. New Gaming Systems are hard to get. Newer Videocards are sold out for months. They simply cannot get the parts to build them fast enough to meet demand.

Restricting it to.. what or who exactly..? Free trial players cannot get in unless it's calm enough to where there isn't thousands of paying players waiting.. so.. restrict what or who? And someone who owns SHB and is subscribed has just as much of a right to log in and play as you who have EW and want to enjoy your Early Access.

I like how they said can't get more servers but some how the new mmorpg's that just came get them. Like New World Online that just came out this year. They could have added a new database and server's a few years ago before this shortage. They just didn't think about prepairing for the future player base that they have now. Pretty sure there hasn't been a chip shortage going from 2010 when 1.0 came out to now. If they really want fix the server problem they could add offline playing option. I think the old phastasy star online games had one.

there has not been a shortage, but WoW was also dominating and until early this year, well into the Pandemic (you heard of that happening right?) and global supply chain shortages as well as travel restrictions, and when WoW imploded.... there was not as pressing a need to bring extra servers up. Its a different philosophy than Blizzard, who added a TON of servers, and are now closing them, oops, I mean "creating joined worlds". that sounds better right? The players know the place is becoming fairly empty and know the truth to the lies they are constantly fed.

No one could have predicted what happened to WoW or where those players would jump to. in Early 2021, people were still happy with the game job they had playing WoW. the future looked certain. why would they decide on a pressing need for more servers?

besides, the point is not the servers, they are fine, and stable. the issue is the login servers. should something be done about those? certainly. that is something few people would disagree with. but the actual game servers themselves, seem to be doing well

Yes, the current playerbase is more important than potential future playerbase. The current playerbase is currently paying now and not getting access to the content they paid for. There won't be a potential future playerbase if they see that the current playerbase is not getting access to the content they paid for.

except those players in the OCE are not POTENTIAL. they are already players, and have been playing trans pacific for years because many of them log into NA servers.

its comments like that, where you actively ignore other parts of the CURRENT player base that makes you look bad. saying you are more important than other CURRENT players who pay just like you do... what makes you so special exactly?

Travel was much more open for business between Japan and USA. Not ideal, but who knows when it will ever be. And if SE says it wasn't possible they are lying. Business travel has happened for many people. Again some shitty hoops to jump through. But that might be the cost of doing business going forward.



The question would be more logistically could they have moved them from OCE to USA. Also it does show that SE can get hardware, they just have to wait. They predicted poorly and now the player base suffers. It is the same for other industries as well though, companies predicted poorly and are unable to provide a decent product. The customers have to live with it. It just shows until they had actual people playing, someone at SE did not believe in the growth potential of 14.

That's like saying " Why you aint got a PS5 bro? I got one. It's EASY to find one." Covid and whatnot is a thing.. that fucked EVERYONE.
