I’ve been playing for almost a year now. I consider teleport a “luxury”. I can count in one hand how many times I spent more than 500g on one teleport, and I always try to use cheaper alternatives if I can. I only spend gil when I have to, because I don’t have much. I don’t like increase of “cost of living”. :(

Om not even on my twinks i ever bothered about teleport fees... if you dont havet hat gil you either teleport way too much or just cant handle money...

We should go back to ARR days no gil from dungeons. If a player can't figure out how to manage gil enough to teleport and feel like slaves, I think they have other problems. Started an alt and made it to stone vigil. No crafting, no gathering, no sidequests, and no ventures. Just challenge log and one run of MSQ dungeon no roulette's, I was able to sit on close to 500k. The gear is worthless and never matches levels so just selling it using one retainer is 500k. And I can't be bothered to walk back to an NPC that is right next to a MSQ marker.

They told us not to get hung up on the numbers they showed us in the example they gave us, because the recalculations are all based on distance, so depending on where you are in Eorzea, the teleport prices will change, some in fact will actually be cheaper.

It'll probably make more sense to people once it's in place and we use it regularly. But they did this because there was a uppercap on the gil fee; which is 999 currently, so if they left it alone, the price from going from the longest distance of malms from point A to the Moon, would still be 999 gil; which makes zero sense.

So they had to remove that uppercap limit to make traveling much greater distances more impactful, I mean it's the Moon for twelves sake. xD.

One thing i do hope they do is gives us perhaps another free save point and since the world is getting bigger now, because that's what really cuts down on teleport fees is having save points placed in places that are close to a lot of stuff.

OP is most definitely a troll, there are so many ways to lower the teleport costs, even after they nerfed them a bit that it makes no difference at the end.

My point is, for some players, the costs of basic features are nothing, but for others, they are “expensive”. Just like in real life. In my opinion, basic necessities should be cheap, like transportation, repair and melding, so players don’t need to think about gil unless they want something extra.

The thing is, unless you're spending either foolishly and paying more for things than you should be, or spending frivolously on unnecessary things the fees for things like teleports, repairs, melds, etc become pretty much a non issue once you get past the beginning of the game.

IMO I think it's nice they're finally doing something at least to try and tone down inflation. However I don't see this doing much in the long run.

I don't think this will put a dent in things for high level players and hopefully the change to make things based on distance will keep it within the realm of affordability for new players.

It has always been based on distance, the current formula being a price per distance plus 100 gil, capped at 999 gil in total. I've mapped out the whole system this way.

If anything the altered version is less distance-based, or at least being calculated by a different method, because you can see all destinations in a zone have the same price.

As I said in the other thread, the price change is minimal for close destinations and seems reduced for further destinations.

I get what they are trying to do, I just don't think it'll work. I could see this change being reverted in 6.1.

And I can't see them doing something that will massively hurt new players who may not have as much gil. It's possible they'll increase MSQ gil to compensate or something.

Teleporting to the moon should be free! Just like in real life!

I just ran through MSQ to 50 over the last month on an alt, and every single quest I had to teleport was either paid for by the completed quest or walking sand coupons. There were some exceptions involving 2 or more teleports that might have cost more than the reward, but I’m pretty sure if you are teleporting with a purpose you will always come out ahead.

Full disclosure, I wouldn’t teleport if the destination is in my current zone, and I would utilize return to the fullest when questing around any city, using the airships.

It really just boils down to how much cheaper more localized teleports will cost and/or if new players are really teleporting for reasons that don’t involve gil rewards to an excessive amount…which I just can’t see being a thing.

Hmmm... wonder if someone will crunch the numbers and extrapolate a cost to teleport to the moon based on the distances available in the examples they provided.

Also wonder if time of day or the phase of the moon (assuming the in game moon also has an elliptical orbit) will effect moon teleport costs.

Whatever your belief about whether or not an increased teleportation fee is sustainable, whether or not the players can afford it, I don't think it's kind to increase these costs that have remained a fixed point, after so long.

At 1500 gil a teleport, we're in a territory where players will have to seriously begin considering whether or not a teleport is needed. "Maybe it's cheaper to buy this from the market board than from [Endwalker vendor]...", and these sorts of considerations have very troubling allegories in the real world. People are forced, every day, to decide between what's desired and what's necessary.

The XIV team has always been so supportive of players playing this game in a manner that best suits the player. To ensure that the player's enjoyment is paramount. To risk introducing the real life considerations that come along with surviving capitalism into a media meant as a form of - forgive me - Fantasy and escapism, is needlessly cruel.

It's very easy to say "well just run roulettes," or the like, but that's just more accounting. "I got 9000 gil, that's enough for 6 teleports before I have to run another roulette...", and we start treading on very grim wage slavery territory.

I don't have a perfect solution for gil inflation, other than to say that I really don't believe it's a problem that needs solving. Every market in the game is perpetually crashed, and restricting gil gains won't improve that. All I can say is that this is a path I really hope we can steer away from, and try to find a better way.

Making gil to cover these fees is easy tbh. Some food for thought. RMT use new player accounts all the time to farm the gil they plan to sell. So I don't see any reason why a normal player cannot either.

As I said earlier though. I don't see this being enough to really have any impact on the inflation. The gil sinks the game really needs at this point are very large ones targeted at late/end game players. Mounts/minions/cosmetics that are only available from NPCs with price tags in the millions, expensive NPC only consumables, possibly removing the cap on how much MGP you can buy with gil since I'm sure a lot of people would then just dump gil to get the MGP items they don't have yet from the vendors. etc. It needs to be things that don't place any of the gil in the hands of another player.

This isn't going to hurt new players.

This topic is being discussed on two fronts and I put most of my explanation in the other thread that doesn't smell of trolling, but the price difference isn't much more than a 20 gil increase for nearby destinations and a reduction for more distant ones. The "expensive" 1000-gil teleports are going the width of three continents and that isn't something a new player has to do. And teleports to Norvrandt will be cheaper than they are now.

I've never really been a fan of actively trying to make gil/currency in any of the games I play, so I get it. However, it is a necessary evil, and some effort is to be expected. For a bare minimum, these are some quick and easy ways if you're truly concerned about making the fees for teleporting on top of other goodies:

-Send out your retainers as much as possible. Look up items that sell fast on the MB, or do quick ventures and sell/turn in any green items to your Grand Company for seals.
-Speaking of GC seals, greed on every item you see drop in dungeons. Turn those into your GC for points and buy items to sell
-Do some roulettes/FATEs
-Don't let you Poetics/other seals just sit there at max. Poetics can be turned into gardening soil which sells fast.
-If you have a DoH/DoL, do the weekly turn-ins for seals and buy items to sell.
-If you have a DoH/DoL, farm up a daily map to sell (average 40k minimum daily on my server)
-If you DON'T have a DoH/DoL, I'd recommend leveling one to at least 50 so you can farm a lower-level map. Some still sell for a decent chunk.


Making gil, while it may seem daunting to a brand-new player, is really quite easy if you just play the game. So yeah, try out some of the above items and you'll be fine. You're not going to have millions right away, but it'll add up fast.

So like... I don't really see a huge reason to make this change, and I'm really not sure how much it's gonna actually do to combat gil inflation... but that assessment seems a bit extreme? Like, unless I missed something huge, it looks like they're only raising the max teleport cost by 500 gil?? Like, I'm genuinely struggling to think of a scenario where you'd need to budget teleports if you aren't a new player and/or spending a ton on something that's comparatively expensive.

Like, no shade, but I've seen somebody genuinely be unable to teleport like, maybe three times total in the entire time I've been playing this game. That's around five years now. And the last time this happened was a loooong time ago. And I think the person had like... bought a bunch of things and forgotten to leave enough to teleport or something.

Is this a common problem? Is the passive gil generation from just... playing the game not enough to cover this? Like, I've made 4 mil over the last few months barely playing and not even actively trying to. I had a few lucky drops from some trials and some treasure maps and sold some crafted stuff but like, I'm not farming gil. I make money very slowly. It took me like 3 years to be able to afford a house. So maybe my sense of scale is off here somehow, but I really don't see how this is even a major change. Seems like more of a minor annoyance than anything.

I'm a little confused by the current uproar over teleport cost increases. Maybe I'm not understanding what the problem really entails, but as a new players myself in the process of going through the MSQ on a second character, teleporting costs have been completely insignificant for me. I'll teleport even if it's a 30 seconds run on the map I'm currently on, I'm that lazy, and yet I'm fast approaching 2 million Gils in the Stormblood expansion. And I spent some money on Glamour items, too. All I've been doing is go through the MSQ with my ninja and do dungeons/trials and daily roulettes (Leveling, trials and 50/60/70) on my WHM.

How am I going to go broke from a 500 Gil teleportation cap increase? Even reading through all the posts here from those opposing this teleportation fee increase, I don't get it. Someone please explain what I'm missing?

I've been paying for travel for years. I've probably lost quite a bit of income. I do think it's a pointless tax, but I haven't really been affected by it too much. I have always been too lazy to try any tricks to lessen it as well.

This probably stands out to newer players to the game rather than those who have already been playing for years and are financially more secure (among other things), but for many of us we're just getting to the point of either having the gil or the aetherite tickets to finally start getting around freely and not doing what OP mentioned, needing to do the "mental math" of how best to get to places.

And for anyone that's still actively exploring the game in all of it's aspects, including different zones, there is a LOT of traveling done.

You really don't need to worry, honestly. The big price increase is for max level players going to the new zones, for newer players it shouldn't make a big difference and might even be cheaper in the old zones. As for the tickets, they said they are looking at making changes, not nerfs. People kicking off about them getting nerfed are getting way ahead of themselves, it could easily be just as simple as adding them to the currency tabs instead of physical items, we don't know yet.

This game throws gil at players, it's hard to not make it passively and there are thousands of ways to actively make it. It really doesn't take much to earn travel money, old player or not.

tbf, limsa woudl be a pretty "decent" location i imagine, not "perfect" but certainly reasonable, unless you realy want 100% efficency for it, its a ARR location, so its pretty early on, so it covers the whole ARR area with "cheapish" teleports, and goes into heavensward maybe early Stormblood regions as well depending on how the adjustments realy go well. pop one at a late stormblood or crystraium aetherty and you should cover MOST of the game with reasonable teleport costs if you are willing to sit trough 2(decently short if you arent running some ancient HDD witha slow CPU) loadingscreen,s and if you dont? well i twont make you go bankrupt

I purchased some exarchic gear today for various jobs. Prices had definitely fallen for some. But some were still very expensive. And low level gear is now comparatively very expensive too, given that a few weeks ago it was selling for 100 gil or so. It's now ten times as much, presumably people cashing in on all the new players. But basic materials, which are how I gauge inflation, is holding up still, price wise. Silver ore and silver ingots are still selling for several hundreds (ore) and thousands (ingots)

I don't craft gear, I mostly craft materials, gathering the ingredients myself. I can easily make 3 mil or more a week. And my savings increase even when I'm not trying, just through me playing the game. My teleport costs don't have any noticeable effect. A small increase to help keep inflation under control is fine. And applying hyperbole like wage-slavery to a situation in a game is pretty outrageous. You're not going to see your children starve just because you blew 1500 gil on a teleport...

It removes money from economy. That's the purpose. Is it insignificant? On a personal scale yes. Server wide? It removes hundreds of millions of gil daily. Along with hairdresser costs, repair costs, npc traders costs, melding costs... Do I need to go on or you get the idea?

ARR gear from NPC costs 10 000, while HW gear costs 30 000, I don't see anyone losing their mind over that "pointless" price increase.

Depending on what they are trying to achieve, whether pulling gil out of player banks, or to reduce certain server loads (or both) they could do what ESO does. Your first teleport each ~15mins is free, then the cost spikes up to a maximum value and ticks downward at 1 gold per second so that after ~15mins your cost is back to zero. Players teleport for free between any wayshrine as long as they use the wayshrine to do it instead of just teleporting from anywhere. People who want zero inconvenience pay a premium, people who will live with the inconvenience of travelling to the nearest wayshrine get free teleport. FF14 so far I havent found a mean to travel between major aetherites other than the teleport menu or map option, they could or should possibly look at maybe allowing aetherite to aetherite travel being free or reduced cost if trying to remove gil from the game. Or they could introduce flexible rates linked to the account level i.e. if you have a character at max level you have access to most gil making methods so prices are at their premium, while your highest level character is below the max you pay proportionate or some other normalised reduction in rates. Makes max level players who can make gil spend, and new players not get penalised by some of the ridiculous gopher questing the game is bloated with.

I am sure that the OP is aware that this is not a 1500 price across the board. The only people paying this would be upper level players, by which time, you should easily have enough gil to cover teleports if you need to use them.

lower level player will not be so burdened, which if they actually watched the presentation and had parked their "indignation" they may have seen before appearing to be ... hmm.. lets say "excitable"

I would imagine if they could implement those they would've done it already. They can't implement % of overall player's gil because gil on retainers effectively don't exist until you retrieve it. Same goes for player level. I'll just travel as lvl 1 fisher all the time reducing my prices to near 0.

We are penny pinching here, regardless. 500gil increase for a max level teleports is n o t h i n g for a max level player.

Do like some mobile games and make a once a day gil quest.

But I would make it super easy however very tedious and time consuming while also making it have more unskippable long cutscenes than Preatorium and in the end... you get a coupon for 10k gil after essentially walking around the world twice while watching enough cutscenes to equal the length of the movie Titanic... >.>

Games is already too easy as is, people have way too much money and close to zero challenge or where to spend it in a meaningful way. Teleportation should be discouraged so people would roam around and use other transportation ways. If anything, current prices are about 5x too cheap, for teleportation. Just my opinion.

..And, as I said above, even the gopher time-waster quests pay you more in rewards than they actually cost to teleport, unless you're being really silly about your route.

Moreover, it's just stupid easy to make gil.
