Right now SE ignore it, after all, they will lose a lot of clients if they did something about it. But if at some point this stuff bring bad press to them, SE will be force to nuke it. So, from an "auto-preservation" stand point, the whole ERP community its the first one interested that no one uses PF to announce anything.

And to be honest, as Gula pointed out, FFXIV has quite a few horror stories already.

Exactly, the ERP community needs to hold itself responsible and put a stop to the advertising in game before SE does step in. They need to make sure they are dealing with adults. It will hurt them, SE, the player base in general, and most importantly minors, if the ERP community refuses to do so. If you are an ERPer and have good intentions, then you need to know that pedophiles while use any avenue available to take advantage of minors. You also need to protect yourselves by not accidentally getting a minor involved without knowing.

They'll go away after patch 5.3 hits, then slowly creep back up xD

No, it cannot. That is precisely why they put that warning there. The responsibility from that point onward falls entirely on the parents to monitor. An equivalent would be allowing a fourteen year old to play a M rated game and then complaining about its sexual or violent content. Square Enix could only get in trouble if they released content themselves or allow things that alter their content in a way which violates the ToS. Nude mods would be an example of the latter.

Highlighted are the weasel words. That statement is entirely subjective as people have very different thresholds on what they find offensive. It essentially covers racial slurs and extreme language but leaves everything else open. In other words, it's lawyer speak. You aren't going to get in trouble for swearing in general but could at their own discretion.

Exactly this. SE won't get into trouble for this. Bad press? Sure. But they've legally covered their behinds, as a company should do. It's up to parents of minors to monitor their children. SE isn't a babysitter. They're a company. If you see content in party finder that's not okay, report it. Then they can deal with it. To hire someone to log in and look at all active party finders on ever server would be costly and not worth the effort when they could simply check reports they get in, instead.

The Party Finder is full of trash advertisements and I don't mean sexual content only but RMT disguised as raiding or any other content, Square Enix should punish those users and ban them according to their faults.

Sorry, I "think of the children" because I was groomed on a similar game when I was a kid. It was a very, very negative experience for me.

Blaming parents is just indirect victim blaming when we're talking about a game that is specifically made available to and marketed towards minors. There's a reasonable expectation that SE will enforce it's own ToS, which they have largely failed to do in this particular context. People simply want SE to step up, enforce their own rules and get rid of some of the creeps.

I've shown consideration for multiple parties, including ERPers. The only group that would not benefit would be actual pedophiles. Everyone else wins.

Are we blaming the parents of the victims now? The rating is T not M. Blame falls to the people taking advantage of minors. They are the ones committing a crime. Teens have been playing MMOs, since they came out. They and their parents should be able to feel safe playing a game meant for Teens and up. You should not remove teens from video games, because pedophiles want to take advantage. You are effectively punishing the wrong group.

But yes, ERPers should absolutely use 3rd party apps. They should also make sure they are not allowing minors to join. They should also keep an eye out for pedophiles trying to use their 3rd party platforms under their noses.

While I do think exposing potential minors to ERP content is an issue. I also think adults shouldn't be punished for playing the game how they want to. Maybe SE can figure out some sort of filter system using the age attached so someone's account? Like a tagging system for party finder. I'm not sure how possible that would be but, it would at least create a safe guard of sorts. Also if anyone didn't tag appropriately then they would be punished somehow. (Maybe a ban or a heavy gil fee)

You can get a much better gauge of things if you get to know someone from non-ERP experiences. That includes 3rd party apps. How those individuals want to do it is up to them. The current method is to not screen at all and just advertise in game. That's a major issue. This game was not meant for ERP, so if you are going to do it, then you need to do a good job of screening. It's a lot better than the chances some ERPers are taking right now, setting themselves up, even if there is no ill-intent.

That would be SE pretty much endorsing ERP, if they are going to start selectively handing out bans when someone ERPing isn't of age according to their account's registered info.

I never said to push people into things. It's not my issue. It is theirs. They brought it on themselves. They have to fix it. Grooming someone is different from figuring out if this is someone that be be open to it and not coerce someone into doing it.

I am highly aware of the mod community. I've recently had to change a cosplay because I got sick of people telling me what the Emperor's New Pants looks like on their screen.

And I'm going to admit, I do work for one of these places, as a stage dancer (in clothes!). I have witnessed our management kicking out people if they suspect they're underage. I can't speak for all of the brothels in that regard, I just know that mine does.

Really, the only thing you do by cracking down on this is to make them seek it elsewhere. Oh, now they're doing it in private on Discord? Ban from Discord! They used Google to find naughty videos? IP block from Google! Where do you want this to end? When everyone is a never-nude in RL because we've banned every available outlet including actual sex?

This request is as ridiculous as it is petty. "Stop having fun, guys." The only thing that needs to change is people putting up multiple advertisements for one place.

There is the problem. You blame the parents over the actions of the people doing wrong. A mother should not have to stand over her son's shoulder, just so he can play a video game rated teen. Like someone else noted, this is basically extending the victim blaming.

You should know someone's age first. It's highly irresponsible to ERP with a teen, knowingly or not. You need to protect yourself, too. Putting 18+ in an advertisement is going to draw some teens, not send them away.

This is an mmorpg and focuses on action/adventure playstyle not intimate play. That's why it's not rated M.

A lazy parent doesn't monitor their kids activities. I had shows I was banned from watching as a kid by my mother. Many parents are misinformed on things. "It's a video game, they're for kids!" despite the big fat M rating on the box of games like GTA. Do your research before you let your kids do their activities. Don't monitor them every minute, just do enough that you're comfortable saying "I feel comfortable if my child does this."

Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB

Just because the game is rated teen doesn't mean anything when its a MMO.
It just means people that age group is old enough to view what the game depicts.
You're taking the game rating WAY too literal.

And yes I will keep blaming the parents.
The reason why so many teenagers do the dumb stuff over the net is because they basically have free reign, unsupervised ability to do w/e they want because most parents don't really care what they're doing online as long as its not IRL.
And when something bad happens, its often too late.

Its a parent job to protect their kid and if you know they're easily influenced, lured, a follower; maybe they shouldn't let their kid play a MMO?

So? The issue isn't people doing ERP. The issue is protecting minors from getting into ERP with adults. Adding a filter and tagging system can be helpful for more things than just protecting minors from ERP too. If someone lies on their account info and reveals that in chat than players should have the ability to report them. Then SE can handle that as they see fit.

I'm just offering a suggestion that could help solve the issue.

Where in the ToS? say "ERP" can get you ban? Because unless you're doing it in say/shout chat...and NOT with a willing participant..
And ofc you can get suspended for cursing but its case dependent.
If you just said something like "f**k" off a slip up on a fight You're fine.

But if you say "F**k you dude!" in the context that you're fighting with someone or spamming in shout chat. Yeah you would or at least get a warning.

Brothels are illegal in most parts of the world. I would imagine that SE would prefer they don't exist in the game.

Obviously, SE can't be monitoring what every player is doing all the time but certainly they could be investigating PFs reported by other players that are advertising 18+ player driven content to see if the activity is not appropriate for age 13-17 players. As a few have pointed out in this thread, some players just don't want to be dealing with children and that's why they say 18+. It hasn't nothing to do with the party doing things that are inappropriate.

Unfortunately, most of the time it is inappropriate.

You'd have to show they were knowingly taken advantage of a minor. Plenty of kids will lie about their age to get access to adult content online. Short of online streaming their image to you, you can't always know.

I'm sorry but, what are you answering? There are many other activities in the game that aren't central to action adventure. That's a moot point to make. Again, the issue is not ERP. The issue is making sure minors don't get involved in it. If you simply don't like people doing ERP that's a completely different issue. Personally, it's not something I see myself doing but, as long as safe guards are put into place I don't mind other people doing it.

Well...so is prostitutes and that's actually in the game :x with some characters openly admitting they were/are one..in the MSQ which begs the question. Is running a player brothel against the ToS? Because with that logic FFXIV itself isn't appropriate for 13 year olds and breaking their own ToS.

Originally my response to you was that it would be endorsing ERP. Nasty behaviour, which would never be endorsed by SE, especially not in a T rated game. If you really want to protect minors, you ban this behavior entirely in every case. EVEN IF they were to endorse it like you suggest, how many actual minors do you think lie about their ages on any given registration online? All that would be doing is protecting the company in writing, not actual minors. In fact your suggestion would probably just encourage more of them to lie about their age! Unless you want people to start having to register for online games with all their personal information, like their social, photographic ID, etc. Ridiculous.

You do realize how much ERP goes on even if you take out the brothels, right? I'd almost guess the majority of players would get banned if your proposal to ban the behavior got banned, and they'd have to shut down the servers. Then I guess we don't have to worry about ERP in FFXIV anymore, would we?

That's not really answering anything because you're not breaking any rules, what rules are you breaking running a brothel? if you're in private with a person that wants to erp with you or even doing it in /tell, what rule are you breaking.

I know a guy that cuss publicly all the time and he has never gotten a warning and I should know because I do ex primals with them quite a lot.

Of course it goes on. They like to chat on discord, and publicly hide their character name/server on twitter. Again, in my original response to that user, it would be them (SE) endorsing this behavior. Which they most certainly do NOT. I was responding to that users suggested supposed "solution" to prevent minors from getting involved, and again the only way to prevent minors from getting involved is to ban this behavior in every case. Even then players will find more underhanded ways to do it, third party.

Also, I don't think your bubble of ERP is as large as you actually think it is. Certainly not large enough to "shut down" FFXIV, please.
