Again why does getting so many more options mean everyone one is going to wear the same thing? Running away from the question doesn't help your argument

I'm glad you shared your opinion with us and while I may not agree with you, I can see your viewpoint. There is enough diversity among the designs which means that not everyone would be wearing the same one.
Even though they probably won't change it, I at least hope they consider it!
Why should the NieR:A stuff be the special one to be role unrestrictive, what about the new PvP set that has 3 colours of the same outfit, most healer and caster sets, even among the 7 sets they currently design for they tend to have a reskin somewhere (usually 2) so the NieR:A set isn't unique in its reusing an outfit more than once. If they did it for one they may feel pressured to do them for everything, and if they do decide to unlock them all, what are you willing to give up for it? more unique glam outfits in the future? Hairstyles? If the devs did it during their spare time it would be one thing but they shouldn't have to give up their spare time just so there was no resource cost for SE. They have done plenty already in their own time, if this request was to be followed through i want it at no expense to anything we are meant to get (the stuff they have a vague idea but haven't finalized yet) nor start diminishing the amount of different outfits we get per set of gear.
I'm for it, having to work with class restrictions when making outfits is just a pain.
When I finally got the dress, the corset was the first thing that stuck out. Looking at it directly from behind really makes it look strange. When I'm running with it on I'm afraid of suddenly snapping in half.
I can understand not wanting glams unlocked when they look the part. I really do (I, myself, I'm a "paladins must be wielding holy swords/hammers and gotta wear something that looks like it came from the clergy" purist) but when there's barely a distinction like the Yorha raid stuff or when it's clothes that don't really convey any real job identity like a lot of the shared glams in the game, I find it hard to support role locking.
*Falls in love with the caster set in the dressing room as a healer thinking, "I really wish I could wear this..."*
*Remembers that all jobs can be leveled on a single character and thinks, "Ohhhhh! I can wear it!"
*queues up as SMN*
I wish they'd just get rid of the glamour restrictions. FFXI's Llockstyle does it right. If you have the job lvl'd and can equip it you can glamour it. Also you can edit your glamour plates "equipment sets" anywhere, not just in your mog house, and you can change your glamour anywhere, not just in town.
Nope. Nope nope nope. Homogeneity is boring. You want that glam, work for it, it will keep you busy and do content instead of being afk in Limsa showcasing your generic glamour ( because you know, everyone and their porxie will wear the same thing... oh wait, it's already happening with the Nier outfit box).
Which same thing? Which one of the sets, given all of them would be available?
At least be honest and admit it's just a case "I don't care about it, so no one should have it" instead of making nonsense BS reasons. How in hell does unlocking the different sets for all roles = homogeneity?
Having more options doesn't lead to homogenization. Restrictions do.
Not everyone wants to play a job they don't like just to wear and outfit that they'll never get to see since they're playing something they DO like.
Class identity hasn't mattered since the glamour system was put in place. See: tanks wall-to-wall pulling in bikinis. This is especially true for the Nier raid when they're literally all dresses.
I genuinely cannot get behind the mindset of anyone against unlocking glams for good to the point that reading the same, tired, debunked reasoning of those against it over and over is genuinely frustrating. There is nothing to lose, and everything to gain; you can even place artificial restrictions on yourself to mimic the old system if you really want. I don't even care if it requires me to be a level 80 BLM to wear a caster dress on my WHM. Anything is better than what we have now.
Character customization/virtual identity is paramount to the MMO genre. More is never a bad thing.
*earns full caster set in the raid*
*realizes it can only be used while playing a caster job you don't really prefer playing*
*consequently never sees said caster set because you hardly ever play that job and the game's stupid glamour restrictions prevent you from using that gear elsewhere*
*realizes the glamour restrictions are utterly stupid since 90% of the gear in the game already has no job identity*
*asks for Squeenix to remove glamour restrictions*
There you go, I finished that thought train for you! :D
Opening up more options creates exponentially less homogenization.
Hmm.. I don't have strong feelings over this. I have probably said in the past I am for role restrictions, they give a class identity, or class 'fantasy', but the fact that there are so many level 1 glamours, event glamours (summer sets, christmas, etc.), crafted sweaters, etc.. Class identity is already muddled. SE themselves have kind of arbitrarily chosen sets that, in my opinion, do not match the class they are locked to. I have often wanted to put gloves, or pants, or shoes from one set on another set that I think fits my interpretation of a class better than what SE has given us.
I think I would still be for class restrictions even after all is said and done. Stunts options for the player, but I think, if done right, this can be a good thing from the design perspective. Granted, YoRHa specifically I would not mind unlocked for all classes, I think SE would probably have to make new glamour alternatives or something, they would probably make some "limitations" excuse.
Countless times, with any kind of subject that touches "less restrictions" appearing in these forums, shows the individuals that apparently can't grasp the concept of "optional" bound to a less restrictive environment. I suppose watching someone dressing up in a way they don't like really interfere in their fruition of the game.
The only reason the whole world is using the 2P outfit atm is because it's a new item. Every time a new item, hairstyle, new job... anything is released you'll see everyone using
For most armor I like that it has restrictions based on roles, because it's often designed specifically for those roles. That doesn't feel like the case here - it's all slightly varied cloth/leather looks that don't lean toward any specific role.
I see no aesthetic reason to keep the Nier looks restricted to roles, unlike most other armor.
They already cut corners when it comes to class sets in the game. Having no role restrictions could very well lead to "homogenization". The YorHa gear (at least for female) are all effectively pieces of the same exact thing with something added or removed. Casters and healers usually just get base recolors at best anymore. On top of that, how would loot even work now? Would everyone be allowed to wear whatever gear? As in, you could wear the tank chest on your healer? Everyone can roll need on whatever? Or are their still class restrictions? Do they add level 1 glamour alternatives of the same set? Do they make more sets look even more similar since there are no class restrictions any longer (why bother? Artifact sets exemplify the true class fantasy)? Remember when it comes to regular glamour, there are few alternatives if any.
On additional thought, and the assumption that they are not going to shift from the current model of "role-locked unless specifically released as Lv1 replica", the similarity of the different versions seems more like a reason why they shouldn't be (at least as a priority) chosen to be unlocked.
There's nothing new or unusual about the different roles being variations on a theme, and we already have the Lv1 2B glamour, which is a lot more than we have for many other unique high-level sets.
(My personal choice for high-potential replicas would be the Thief / Duelist / Plague Doctor sets, or there are a lot of other dungeon sets where unlocking them would give you several distinct new outfits to play with - while unlocking these would mostly give you access to some dresses that aren't that different to the one you already had.)
Generally speaking, I'm in two minds over class restrictions. They're frustrating when I want a specific out-of-reach combination, but I also don't mind playing within them and seeing what outfits I can come up with that can only be equipped by that role.
Then again, I also came up with five different previously-impossible outfits as soon as I discovered the sky pirate replicas, so... I don't know. But I do love having some actual fantasy-ish outfits as Lv1 glamours instead of the normal assortment of modern fashion.
Actually that thought train ends with an extra step: realising they are very unlikely to say yes.
I remain convinced (forgive me if you've heard me say it before) it's quite possible that their programming would not allow them to make a specific restriction for relic gear if they opened up glamour restrictions on everything else, and that's a line they're not willing to cross. So everything else remains restricted to protect that.
I don't see why the YORHA gear should be a special case, but I AM in favor of removing job/class restrictions on all gear EXCEPT for weapons, offhand items and job/class specific gear. Such as artifact armors or the profession specific doh/dol sets.
If a set is made for just one job or one doh/dol class, then sure, I see the value in not letting everyone glam it. But for all other gear, I see no reason (other than it being difficult to actually do because of crummy 1.0 foundation) to not allow you to say glam fending gear onto aiming or scouting onto striking etc in general. But the YORHA gear specifically? If they're going to remove those trestrictions might as well remove it for all roll based sets.
I’d be for this. The Aiming body is my favorite of the Nier body pieces (with the Caster one being second), and I would like to be able to use them on my healers since I’m not all about the 80s prom dress look. I doubt that this would increase any sort of “homogeneity”—it would actually give all roles more glamour options to pick from...which is kind of the opposite of something that is homogenized.
I’m wagering some just don’t understand what the word “homogeneity” means at this point. After reading 6 pages of the same couple of posters employing the word dodging the question of “how would giving people more glamour options make things homogenized”.
I can understand people not wanting a certain option for reasons like 1- It can affect gameplay 2- It can affect content development 3- It doesn't fit the lore, immersion etc. (like removing job gear restriction) 4- If you want it, put the effort to get it (like dyeable raid gear from savage or unsynced ultimates) 5- it's inappropriate for some cultures.
But the "I don't want to see a lot of people wearing it" reason, for something that has no effect on lore or immersion, seems more to have reached the realm of entitlement to be honest. Of course the "you want to wear it, then level the role for it" reason is a understandable (no.4) as long as it's not tied to "but you shouldn't be able to use it on other roles. Because I don't want to see others wearing it".
I think a lot of it comes from what people are specifically asking for. Theres some "I want pieces to be unlocked universally so I can go crazy with my designs" and theres a lot of "I want to use XYZ piece on everything, because that piece is cool".Quote:

Personally, I think its dumb we already have as much nonsense all/all stuff as we do. "Is mostly naked bikinifrog a tank, a healer or dps?!" isnt a question that should ever be asked.
Id love a few specific things to be unlocked (why are the only pairs of gloves that look like legit work gloves not a crafter item, but DoW?), but having things armor-type locked isnt a bad thing. Being able to identify at a glance heavy armor = tank, lighter armor = melee/range dps, cloth/robes = caster/healer is a staple of this genre.
If you want to get into the debate about thematics and gear fitting the theme of a job, then I can understand the point behind locks. But there’s quite a bit in this game that don’t have inherent “tank” or inherent “healer” (etc. for the other roles) qualities to them. Nothing about the Nier tank body screams “tank”, especially since it’s nearly identical to the healer body. Same with my Aiming one (though it is one of the few Aiming pieces that can actually fit DNC thematically and not look silly).
However, I think it’s important to note that sometimes, developers take these “inherently tank body pieces” or these “inherently healer body pieces” and make the DPS body pieces—so the thematic argument kind of goes out the window at that point. ARR gear made more sense to me with regards to the locks on it compared to some of the more recent sets that get released, like the Nier set or even the sets from Alphascape. They were all similar enough that any role could probably pull off the pieces as “thematically appropriate”.
I personally wouldn’t care if everything glamour-related was unlocked saved for weapons (which I doubly they ever would be) and artifact gear.
I think if class restrictions were removed we would actually get less variation from future sets, by SE; they would be more uniform than they already are. If everyone could use the same gear then what is the point of making so many variations for each set, and ironically I wish they would give us more restricted variation when it comes to restrictions for roles like dancer, or red mage. My thoughts come from a design perspective, and the low bar I have already set for SE since Shadowbringers. That is not to mention the other potential issues I covered in my previous post.
That is a major issue with me for a LOT of tank gear in this game. I absolutely hate an overwhelming majority of it.Quote:

Because the question was about homogeneity, and my take on it is that people dont want things to be unlocked to have more variety, they want it to be unlocked to use the same pieces on more things,Quote:
And the problem with that is?
` You are right that there is a population of players who would just want to wear the same glamour on everything. However, I do not think this is a good argument, I think this is a straw man. There could be just as many people (or more) who utilize set pieces to make sets of their own.
An inherently selfish position to take as well. I do not see how some people wearing the same set of gear specifically YoRHa would matter. I can see where you are coming from in general, but when it comes to this thread, and the YoRHa gear they are all essentially the same thing with minor variation. If we got replica YoRHa this would literally effect nothing, and the minority of people using the same glamour on all their classes wouldn't matter. Especially when we already get 2B glamour to begin with.
You didn't finish anything for me. You just added on using my format, and I am going to be hard pressed to buy into "more options" arguments when you already lack originality of your own.
You don't want to play a job you don't care for in order to wear something? That's your prerogative. There are valid reasons to have restrictions in place, but I definitely would not expect anyone who sees them as stupid and comes here crying entitlement tears when new sets are released to acknowledge what those are. I also don't have the energy to explain it to a wall.
I'd be lying if I said there hasn't been one time that I wasn't disappointed by a restriction on gear. However, it has been far easier to move on and find something else than coming here complaining time and time again using futile arguments. The devs can and will place restrictions as they see fit. It will continue for as long as this game is around. Not everything in the game is going to make you happy. Focus on what does instead of what doesn't, and you might be around as long as the game is.
Well, Yoshi P did say in an interview that people should ask in the forums if they wanted restriction on some sets to be removed. So it doesn't make any sense that people shouldn't ask.

Out of curiosity, what are the valid reasons for restrictions that are you're referring to?
I don't consider the restrictions stupid - they have their place. But I'm simply wondering if the YoRHa gear is that place, given that most of the pieces actually look the same/similar at a glance, which then removes the purpose of job specific gear in a way?
Don't get me wrong, I want more uniquely designed job-specific gear, but I'd also like to see the puffy-shouldered YoRHa dress on my DNC and the NIN bodice on my GNB. Is it so wrong to try?
Mind you, I'm not advocating for total class restriction removal on all the gear. Only the Nier raid pieces, since they basically look the same already. Make each cost like...20 of some currency, which'll prompt players to re-run the raids multiple times to earn them all.
I keep seeing people saying that unlocking everything for glams would create more diversity in looks, yet in this very thread we evidence to the contrary. First two pages alone you have two pieces of gear that several people want to be able to use on other roles. Doesn't sound very diverse with so many people wanting those specific pieces.
Limitations are often a good thing. When you have access to too much, it becomes boring.
If they all look the same already, then why remove the role restrictions? Kinda shot your own argument in the foot on that one.
This thread is about specific pieces though. Some posts do mention the desire to combine locked gear with what is currently mutually exclusive gear, ie gear combinations that can't exist currently. That's additional diversity.
That doesn't seem to apply to glam though. Without limits you can be more unique as there is less chance of someone wearing the same outfit as you. You have more opportunity to express your style because you more options to experiment with. It should definitely take longer to get bored as going through the expanded list of available outfits will absolutely take longer without having the vast majority locked away. Everyone can and should have their own opinions, but the less is more argument is something I find really hard to understand.Quote:

Asking for restrictions to be lifted and complaining about the ones that are in place are two entirely different things. And Yoshi's comments pertained to releasing sets of gear for classes that currently have restrictions. I should not have to mention that once they are in place, they are troublesome to remove. It is much easier to release sets of gear that mimic them and made available for other jobs and roles, which they have done. This does not prohibit them in any way for releasing new sets of gear that are entirely new to the game and place restrictions on them, which we all should be used to by now.
Restrictions, despite contrary belief, don't hinder options and diversity in the game. I should ask if all the roles in the game are wearing a set intended for casters/tanks/healers, how is this not homogenization? Sure, if restrictions are not in place it gives the player more options to glamour, but this does not necessarily mean it is going to eliminate homogenization among the playerbase. This is done through diversity, and sometimes the devs have to force it, especially with new sets of gear that will undoubtedly be trendy and a novelty upon their implementation.
Restrictions by nature are preventative, so they are in place to keep player acquisition in check. They also exist to provide incentive. Weekly loot lockouts and capped tomes are examples of said restrictions, and prevent players from getting BiS in a matter of days or even hours. As a result the content stays relevant until better gear is released, which gives new players the same opportunity to clear the content as those before them.
In the case of glamour, the restrictions provide incentive to play those roles and the jobs within them. Not wanting to play a certain job in order to obtain it is a moot argument made by the other poster because SE still needs those roles and jobs queueing into the content so they at least attempt to get a balance among all the jobs they've released into the game.
Lastly, it is simply ok for some things to be restricted. Certainly more ok than it would be for restrictions to be eliminated entirely, which hopefully I enlightened to how it can be harmful to the game. You don't give an inch to the "I want my cake and eat it too" peeps, as they will take a mile. Restrictions doesn't have to be demonized like they are here.
Asking for a QoL feature that existed in FFXI—FFXIV's predecessor—isn't entitlement.
If there's legitimate reasons, then please, list them. So far I haven't seen any whatsoever.
Do you not realize how ridiculous it sounds to say that limitations aren't boring? They are the epitome of it.
It's a thread about a specific set of gear, and it's pretty well known that casters and ranged DPS classes always get the absolute best glams. Of course the caster and aiming sets are going to get mentioned. What did you expect?
Personally, I would be glad for the restrictions to be removed for all clothing.
Uhh... I don't know about that.. I mean maybe in your opinion that's the case. I play red mage and healer and don't wear any sets made for the class. I only wear glamour I have made for it, or some summer set or something.. Actually the same thing with my ranged physical classes. The class sets for the most part are made with bard in mind, so dancer and machinist usually don't actually match the class restricted sets. You are stretching here.
