Where Dalamud lands...

Well as the story goes we are in the.. cant remember what umbral number era it is. They said this story-line can only be experience now.. after 2.0 no one else can. Main story is the empires threat. Im thinking this Meteor will backfire on them and wipe most of them out... thus ending the threat and starting a new story-line. There will still be remnants of them left as well as bases and outposts.. but no major city or threat left.

Think as if you're the empire's leading commander.

It's obviously heading towards Ishgard, The empire's biggest threat is The Fury, Shiva.

It's the closest to the Twelves wood and we all know the wood will be the region with the biggest change.

On second thought, I don't think Dalamud will ever actually touch down.

In the quest "Ceruleum Shock" Cid tells us that the reason for the disturbances in the Aether's flow is because of Dalamud. And that has back when Dalamud was a mere dot.

I believe the Empire has found a way to control Dalamud and will bring it too close to Hydaelyn causing the Aether to go haywire and thus alter Eorzea from within.

Pretty much I think they're trying to crystallize the Aether, and Dalamud will do that all in one shot.

i can't help but think Hydaeln's(sp?) aether is reacting to Dalamud and is reaching up to "catch" it. if you look at the concept art there's tons of red crags all over the place reaching towards the sky.

that could be true... It makes sense when you look at the concept art of the Aetheryte that has to be chained down so it wont float away

They need to redesign cities to an extent. You can't tell me that this thing will take out the entire continent but the three cities will magically be unscathed.

Yea.. unless the moon is just an aetherial magnet and it pulls stuff up from underground in many places and disrupts the land that way

I certainly hope they do, if they want the new inter-city aether transports to be useful. Currently, the cities are so small you can run to most locations faster than it takes to load in using the teleport.

I was looking at the concept art and map designs again
It seems they've only shown us 1 of the 3-5 zones of each region
the ones I know for sure are Central Coerthas, Northern Thanalan and Northern La Noscea

Why is everyone so confused about what Dalamud is? It is a giant machine built thousands of years ago by the allag civilization. This is clearly explained in a grand company quest, a quest called Alive for Maelstorm.

I still think it'd be funny if it crashed and wiped out Ishgard. All the people on forums haven been dying for the day ishgard opens its gates to us and the moment it does.... BOOM! Dalamud takes it out leaving a crater and a partially destroyed bridge/gate.

I doubt it's actually going hit the world. That would be too awesome for SE. It'll probably hovor & shoot lazers while sucking up energy.

Nah, it just knocks down the bridge so we still can't get there. It will still be taunting us in the background.

Edit: watch the cinematic from Gridania storyline where it shows a glimpse of Dalamud. It shows it come nearby and shoot a bunch of smaller meteors out or something.

No worries. Shantotto will appear and blast the moon into a million pieces before it hits the planet, because she'll be damned before something, besides her, destroys any planet, regardless if it the one she resides on, is across the galaxy/universe, in another dimension...you get the idea. :)

Obliterate Gridania and it's crappy maze-like design.

Any chance you remember the name of this quest? Being that I'm not from Grid, I didn't get a chance to see it. Sounds awesome though.

I just got the Limsa Lominsa quest line that apparently contradicts all other available information where Cid himself told us Dalamud is a machine built by an ancient civilization.

It's taking everything with it. Goodbye ugly Eorzea! Hello 2.0 and snowy Coerthas!

Meteor is something else entirely, meteor is black magic. The empire wants to summon meteor to crash into Dalamud. Seriously people do the grand company quests. It explains all of this.

Each of the Grand Company quests gives a different piece of the puzzle, though. The Maelstrom quests said nothing about crashing Meteor into Dalamud. Only that the Empire was trying to use Dalamud in some fashion and that it was man made.

Our last quest was all about how Gaius used to be king, but now he's just a lap dog for Nael.

That's the thing though....
Cid (Who is obviously in the loop and knows quite a bit about it) has referred to both a machine AND meteor?

they both obviously exist

The Twin Adder quest you learn that they have tried to use meteor once before and that they could not control where Dalamud would fall... it apparently it hit somewhere call Bozja Citadel or at least it cause something bad there to happen. Though now they think they have a means to control where it will land... we shall see!

What would be cool.. granted, I dont think it's going to happen this way, though they've had a lot of time to work on it if they remained dedicated to this task. The delays in patchs coming out on time could be because the teams they have designated for regular patch content is severely limited because a lot of people are working on this other bigger project..

I dont want to log into the game after when Dalmund makes contact or whatever and instantly find everything altered. Its kind of like going from one zone that's barren desert and rocky crags to a forest area overflowing with foilage with skyscraper tall trees. IE Thanlan into Shroud

When Dalmund makes its 'impact', they should show destruction, the backlash of energy as it washes outwards to affect all 3 cities. Terrian upheavels, collapses, the twisting and tearing of the continent as we know it. All three cities are damaged, heavily and let the screen fade to black. With something like... a year later.. is when you log into the game. This way its feasible, the cities have been damaged, but rebuilt. New landmarks are established throughout Eorzea, camps and such that werent there yesterday, are now set up and ready to be used. And the story begins anew..

Think, if you played it, Guild Wars. After you finish the intial storyline all hell breaks loose, the world itself changes completely and you cannot return to that previous timeline, its done. The game itself takes place in a new era, a new period and the changes are all around you. They said the time leading up to 2.0's boot up would be a time of change and we would only get to experience it once, by being in the game.

Now, I'm not all about 'dont ruin my immersion!', but at the same time.. besides dynamic battle systems, the real big pulling point for SE has always been captivating stories. So they can do it anyway they want, this is just my personal opinion of what I would see being a truly epic live event. Watch the world burn and bring us back into it after all the carnage has subsided. Then let us go beat the crap outta the Empire for starting it in the first place! lol



Oh and an edit: Its called PROJECT METEOR. I mean, think about it, what else were they going to call a gigantic red sphere of looming destruction thats being dragged towards us? Project Big Ball of Death??

Although, on another side note. If 'Meteor/Dalmund' should get close enough. Could also be pretty cool if the 12 'Gods' manifested to stop it, same effect, the destruction caused by that event would be the same as I said above. But part of the concept notes was that the 12 would begin playing a part in the game as well. How much of a part, one can only wonder..

Ideally, I'd want to be online while it happened and see the destruction firsthand

The maelstrom quests don't mention these tomestones at all. And it seems like "Meteor" is indeed an operation name involving crashign Dalamud into Eorzea.

Wen missed out on so much getting to see only 1/3 of the story

Its possible Dalamud doesn't ever "land" or "crash".

Many concept art shows the aether/crystal's to want to float away (supposedly towards Dalamud's power). Its possible that it stops falling and hovers (over Mordana?) at some point, or Cid finds a way to stop it etc.

Something the size of Dalamud crashing into Eorzea would destroy the entire planet most likely so I am sort of assuming the terraforming for 2.0 will just be because Dalamud either got really close and the aether went through turmoil before it returned to space or that it hovers somewhere where its power is still present but never actually impacts the surface. (obviously with better storyline than that tho!)

Ok what I know so far... The Alleg created Dalamud and also there are some stones or tombstones that have magic powers to control the fall of Dalamud. The Empire has already tried to use meteor ones and it fell uncontrolled on the imperial citadel of Bozja destroying it completely. The empire is now trying to find these so called Alleg tombstones so that they might control where Dalamud falls...

I mentioned this on another thread, but I think Dalamud will be destroyed by summoned primals before it hits, but in a manner where it's debris falls as a star shower not unlike what we've seen in the main scenario cutscenes, so instead of one big crater (which if Dalamud is the size of a small moon would turn Eorzea into an extension of the sea) we get wide-spread destruction over most of Eorzea, and we have an explainable means of surviving the cataclysm. It also explains how the entire continent will be affected by the coming disaster.

Careful, there are people on this forum who will vilify you for trying to explain anything in a fantasy setting with science. I do agree with Dalamud not making planetfall for pretty much the same reason however.

There has to be some connection to mana as to how the whole world changes. Since an impact on the continent would just create ugly territories and not make much sense as to why the graphics are different as well as why areas are completely changed. My guess is the moon's impact will cause the world to meta-morph in a way the empire had not anticipated or the Grand Companies find a way to limit the damage the moon will have on the planet but using such a tactic will cause a metamorphosis on the land. Whatever the case though there has to be some concept in which the world transforms, I highly doubt that their will be a crater created from the moon.
