You can "argue" that our sub is just to access the game, but the vanity/optional items in general are more common on f2p games where you also have p2w items, because that's how they make their game profitable.

The argument point is: a game which already makes millions from sub money, is falling into a practice to lock out certain items as cash shop only. Which the whales cater to and is a common practice of "f2p" games. Hence why they said: "There's enough f2p garbage going on in a subscription game already."

They weren't right nor wrong, just certain sentences can't be seen as "literal".

Actually, it is. P2W denotes winning something, i.e., obtaining an unfair gameplay advantage over other players through cash shop purchases. A P2W example for FFXIV would be selling the current tomestone on the mogstation not a Chinese dress.

No. This shouldn't be something we have to pay extra for. It should be something we unlock through playing the game.

No, it wouldn't. Which is why I said the cash shop items (level 1 glamours, rare dyes, old event items, and mounts) aren't paying to win anything. I wasn't even aware the person meant a "f2p model" because their comment sounded like they were meaning this game was f2p, when it isn't. Which is why I said "I guess you meant p2w". If you want to point out where I said paying $50 to unlock cross role Glamour is p2w, be my guest, but I never said that.

To answer the question of OP though, I don't know if I'd pay for it. At least I'd hope I wouldn't pay for it as I feel they are nickle and dimeing this game to death as it is. This isn't FFXI, or any other mmo for that matter. There's a whole different crew of decision makers manning those ships. I would argue that 'fan service' would have AF sets remained locked behind their respective jobs, because it's typically fans of the franchise that disapprove being able to glamour AF gear onto a job it doesn't belong to. I would also argue that FFXI no longer feels like a Final Fantasy game, and it's things like what you've pointed out that facilitate that thought process.

It's not pointless having this restriction, but I will agree that a player shouldn't have to pay to have it lifted if it ever did become an option. If this day comes, hopefully like FFXI, it happens LONG after I stop playing it.

I don't think we can claim whether or not unlocking AF would be considered fan service or not seeing that their only other MMO has already gone that route. There isn't much background to form an opinion on, and I've not seen any official polls. However, all of the various FF bosses coming from other games, outfits, music, cross-over events, etc - they don't really help make Eorzea feel like it's own world. We just continue to borrow and implement from everywhere else. So yes, the fan service in this game is insanely high. Letting people cross-job glamour seems quite minor when you take into account everything else already in game.

My post is also an opinion, so a poll is not needed. The opinion is formulated based off the comments I have read from other players over the years, and I conclude that most players would dislike being able to glam the AF sets on anything other than its respective job. Those who want it, are in the minority and their history with the franchise doesn't go back much further than FF X-2. Again, this doesn't apply to everyone, and is just a general observation.

My main point is FFXI is its own game. It's an example that you can only put so many ingredients in a soup before it becomes a bisque. Back in the days of Chains of Promathia, it really felt like a FF title. The setting of this game takes place in Eorzea, but it is still a Final Fantasy game. "Minor" things like keeping AF exclusive actually has a big impact on keeping this game feeling like it's a FF game. I am all for fan service if it's a good service to not only the current game, but also the franchise.

Already it irks me seeing scantily clad players tanking but hey, each to their own. A large part of the game is lore and I think it’s important that SE keep close to these roots.

Since I only play monk (I have SAM leveled to 70 as well, and DRG at 60, etc, but eh, its easier to stick with one job), no.

They sorta lost whatever credibility they had in their "because lore" reasons when they decided to add flying spinning turtles, flying elephants, flying chairs and pig suits. Just sayin'. I still disagree with the idea of cross job glamours (mostly AF sets). I think crafted, dungeon or raid sets would be reasonable to varying degrees. Still wouldn't pay extra though since that's what the topic is about.

I would be more than okay with open glamour/usage for crafters or gatherers so long as it's a crafting or gathering job using the gear. Like a Weaver using a armorer's coat or a fisher using the miner's helm. So long as it isn't the current items (level 70 now) then it should open up a bit.

Keep asking and soon everything you wanted will have a price tag on it. All the glamor on the Mog Station could of been free, but people sympathized with SE and accepted that they would only do it for extra cash instead of banning together.

For $50 more SE please make the game more entertaining.

The entire dresser should be locked behind pay gate, so we could have less people complaining how it is not perfect.

I think the better solution would be to release more glams that work for all jobs. Just don't make a lot of them mog station items. I knew there are plenty in game that are not mog station but I'd love to see more that are not just fluff items.

why 50$?

I think one requirement for ilevel 1 cross job/class clamour should be to have the original job/class of the gear on the required level of the original gear.
So instead of "the job can clamour what the job can wear" it would be "the character can clamour what one of his jobs can wear"

Instead of cash shop it could also come from recipes that require rare mats from ultimate raids / Eureka.

Why pay 50 bucks for something that is already possible but they choose to deliberately lock items to their role?
Not buying that sorry, they first have to lighten up a little with their convoluted systems and rules, the rest should come on its own.
Money won't change their basic mindset (which in SE's case, is being over the top with complications).

Now the sad part is that it's nothing new and they probably are totally aware of that as well...

Pay $50 for a basic game feature that most of the well known FTP games that have class based armor allow you to do for free.....um yeah no.

If I had to pay extra to do it, I would just settle for keeping the restrictions I have now. Now, as far as unlocking gear goes...

Let's start off with the elephant in the room. Artefact gear. This is the job's traditional look. Technically, it's as simple as adding extra job marks to the items to allow other jobs to wear it (for a most basic implementation, as it's already modelled for all races/genders). But lore-wise, I would say it doesn't make sense. Let's keep it locked.
Generic armour (let's take the Hailstorm healing gear). Should be glamourable by all jobs. Technically, it's as difficult as AF gear to do. Might need a more complicated "Glamour allowed" system that keeps AF gear locked to individual jobs though. That's where things could get messy, especially with FFXIV's apparent spaghetti code.
Race+gender locked gear (E.G. Roegadyn Boots, Thav Sandals). This attire has only been modelled for certain frames. This would be more difficult to do as it would require remodelling. This one I unfortunately don't see happening but think it should. And no, it shouldn't cost extra to do it.

Pay $50 for a feature that's basically already in game, why they'll never do it cause then they'd actually have make new outfits each expansion instead of re-dying/dyable/class swapping the outfits.

Would you be okay with any additions to dresser storage space and additional glamour plates requiring additional payment? (just like additional retainers)

Glamour should be left where it is. If people want or like the look of a casting set, then level the casting class. You can already pay for jump potions without learning how to play the job so go for it then boom, you have your glamour. Want whm chest as tank? Just play with a crappy tank and spam medica 2

this is an inane argument. A lot of the generic (non-AF) gear which is currently locked to jobs would look perfectly fine with other jobs. A lot of BLK mage "caster gear" doesn't look any different from WHT mage caster gear and even some of the item from casters would easily fit a DPS or tank. The same applies for a lot of the crafting gear which would look perfectly fine on caster, dps, or tanks.

I am all for making glamour job neutral. I don't have an issue with AF gear either since I rarely see people actually using it anyway.

From your post I would guess your mind completely melts every time you see a tank or mage wearing the bikini or a DPS strutting around in a Chocobo Mascot Head.

And if I want a mix of tank gear and caster gear? Merely having access to one job's gear is not very interesting, the interesting thing would be to be able to mix gear sets.

Casters cannot wear armor because it would be absurd for them to wear such heavy equipment when they're not in the front line.
Tanks can wear bikinis despite the fact it's absurd for them to wear such light equipment when they stand in the line of fire.

Enforcing "Equipment is absurd on a role, therefore that role cannot equip it" either has to apply to everybody, or nobody. That's the Bikini Argument, and it is very valid in discussion.
