First off, I love Reinhart. But you can't completely base any bitching on one of his translations. The way I read it is that the drop rate stays the same while the item you get is that special item you can trade with people.

While that aspect may suck, at least they appear to be implimenting a concept that will allow you to fight Ifrit x amount of times to guarantee you a weapon of your choice. So if you are down on your luck at least with enough attempts you'll be able to get the weapon of your choice.

Though if there's one issue I have I just don't understand why people like Greed/Need/Pass system, to me it just seems stupid, 6/6 could just need it out of Greed, while 5/6 say Greed one would say Need and they would get priority over the item which just sounds dumb. At least from what I"ve gone to understand that's how the system works. I don't understand why they don't just use the basic system in XI, lot or pass it's as simple as that, to add a third option just seems stupid and only leads to quarrels because someone who hit Need really wanted it out of Greed.

Damn this place sure is getting negative.. hope the devs realize that the majority still appreciate all the great changes. Does Ifrit need a better drop system .. yes. Does it sound like they are totally fixing it.. no.

The kind of reactions some people post make me think the developers will stop communicating if they just get beat up every time they share ideas. How hard is it to be constructive and not so emotional. Its as easy as "SE, this doesn't make sense, you are only partially fixing the problem."

Well, with that system you could get two weapons from one run... So... :3

You should be given directly the "Trade in "coins"", while the weapon that can occasionally drop, should go to 'loot list'.

I agree with the OP though i do appriciate the trade system for multiple kills I would still rather see less drops rot because somone already has it. Previous method for DH and NMs worked just fine.

We have so many dedicated friends and members in our LS that just need their main weapon (e.g., one of our most dedicated Lancers), and with this crappy Loot System, we've seen the Ifrit Harpoon thrown away on the floor numerous times, or someone who doesn't even play Lancer get it. Same for countless other weapons. It's a slap in the face.

Definitely one of the worst Time Sinks and decisions Yoshida-san and his team have made so far. :(

(And I really like most of what Yoshida-san has done and can't wait for 2.0!) :)

Exactly. I'm hoping against odds that Yoshida simply flubbed in his post and mixed the two up. Then I think about his flimsy reasoning for why we can't have loot listed weapons...

how about you go look and read the official translation. it is correct and says exactly the same thing this one does. you get 2 possible drops..... a weapon that goes to your inventory or a token that you can pass along with the ability to go /random and it randomly goes to other people.

If you look at my previous posts (outside of this thread), I'm not a negative person. I think this thread is the reaction after countless players have already provided feedback and suggestions on how to fix the Loot System from Ifrit (just search and go back in this General Forum and you can see how many Ifrit Loot Threads there are).

We've been waiting patiently for Yoshida-san and SE to respond and we got his response last night (linked in the OP). Which is basically amounting to, "He wants to keep the horrible Loot System (that the vast majority of players hate), and he's using the excuse that he's afraid people will Ninja Loot, so that's why he's keeping it as is."

Which is a total joke and weak excuse for basically keeping the Time Sink he has now.

I also suggested (as have many) that Yoshida-san simply restore the Normal Loot System that we've had on Dzemael Darkhold and on all Open World NMs (that Rewards go into the Common Party Loot Pool), so we can distribute it.

That takes *no* additional work and can be easily done without any excuse for "need a new server structure" to implement it.

It's very clear Yoshida-san and team are milking this Ifrit Fight for as long as possible... to make it stretch out until Patch 1.20.

I empathize with him that they are working on 2.0 (whole new world / major changes) while trying to give us content now to keep us busy.

But the current Forced Loot for Ifrit is flat-out the worst type of Time Sink possible.

He makes EXP'ing super easy, actively supports Power Leveling, simplifies Recipes and Crafting and tries to make things more mainstream friendly... and implements the worst type of Hardcore Time Sink this game has ever seen. It's baffling.

Can't this new item/token that will drop to loot list be ninja looted as well?

I'm pretty sure it's not a flub. MMO's are time sinks and designed that way on purpose. We're only getting new raids/battle content essentially every 3 months from here on out.

The drop rate is going to be horrible to compensate for the people that win the fight 20 times a day every day (which will basically hurt the people that do the fight like once a week or don't have consistent wins).

I also think he's worried that people that don't do the fight as often will be forced to give up the item in favor of someone that shows up all the time. At least with the current system a casual player as equal opportunity to randomly get a piece of gear compared to someone that doesn't show up all the time.

Personally I like the fact that gear doesn't go into the loot pool. I always hated the assigning drops/loot stuff. It's going to become the DKP raid people that show up all the time with points to bid for the item or PT leaders demanding the first item as a condition to join the pt.

But I DO dislike the fact that you can't pass the loot to someone else if you're feeling generous. (I just got a duplicate ifrit's bow last night. I would have liked the option to give that to someone else in the PT if they wanted it)

Sorry my comments weren't really directed toward you, but rather the slew of negative remarks that precipitated. I agree the system is broken and understand the frustration. The customer may always be right , but what customer are you going to respond more favorably toward, the one who is constructive and has peer support or the one who says "you are such an idiot what are you thinking???" I really wonder how the Japanese are in their posts, I think its more American to be hyper negative.

Kiara i totally agree with what ur saying!! Everything ive seen so far with what Yoshi is adding or has added is baffling indeed.

so far all ive seen is the ruining of grinding and the fun of leveling now transformed into PLing and ruined.

and now in my opinion, hes just giving us a new time sink thats even longer. First off, depending on what item we want and the way he talked about it its going to be that we need a certain amount of wins or points to obtain just one item. ><
so think about it like this, what if to get a battleaxe i need to get 30 wins or 30 points or 30 w/e to get just one battleaxe.... just imagine what things will look like after this new change :/ tbh it doesnt sound too great just seems like a new time sink.... Although, in FFXI we did have Einherjar (SP) and there we got certain points after wins and after that, with the points we could trade them in for items like some mantle that was great for BLM and stuff....

I'm thinking if things look kinda like that well i dunno maybe itll be ok... but still i really dont know were only going to know when it all comes into the game. But even then i dont know if thats what this game needs.. And waiting for a whole year for the new system only after 2.0 will be hard, we will get a lot of time sinks until then... A LOT. lol

I think some form of security is needed. They may not be able to implement a full fix in the current graphic engine but I think it is a step in the right direction. Its a start.

Doesn't take that much effort to get all 50's. Maybe 100hours of total play time to get all DOM/DOW to 50 and do the quests. Then its just watching netflix/moves/TV while you standard spam, someone once had a list of all the movies/TV they watched getting all DOH to 50. The DOL takes some dedication though...

I would have to agree, the randomness of this loot system makes me not want to even bother with Ifrit, if this system is in place to increase the life of the content then you failed with me because I can't even be bothered to start.

And I'm sure after people doing Ifrit 50+ times not getting what they want will probably feel that way too.

i wouldn't mind the current system so much if it could check your inv and not give you doubles. getting a double when you don't have everything its the worst thing ever.

Hi Jinko,

Definitely agree. One friend on my server is on an 0/73 streak. Seventy-three wins of straight Dark Matter.

While at the same time they've seen people hop in (who barely know the fight) and get weapons on their 1st attempt (or 4th attempt), etc. Or seen people throw away countless duplicates during the time she's been on this streak of no drops.

Yay to Yoshida-san for the random number generator, and horrible loot system.

This is similar to the OP's suggestion, but we have decided to preserve the current drop rates for weapons and individual chests. And in addition to the reward weapon, we will introduce an item that can be traded to an NPC for a weapon. This new item will drop at a fixed rate, and will be loot list-tradable, so you will have an opportunity to pass it to another player. (Updated on 11/22, 6:45pm PST for clarity)

I don't want to see another need/greed/pas sytem like so many other MMO's have. The system in FFXI worked. Ninja-lotting was not a problem.

I really can't believe that they honestly think that /random and compromise with individual treasure drops is better than the small percentage risk of ninja-lotting. Logically, it doesn't make sense.

It would be really easy to eliminate ninja lotting. All they would have to do is display the timer that indicates how long party members are allowed to lot on treasure items. If someone lots in the last 5 or 10 seconds, the party leader should be presented with the option to accept or reject the late lot. Certainly more people would trust the party leader over the whole group.

I hope that they reconsider this bad idea and reject the need/greed model. For the love of the 12, we don't need another WoW.


Need and greed really only worked in MMO's where you had one occupation. It doesn't work in FFXI.

I like drop to loot, and /random for it. So if it drops in my loot and 4 people want the item, its hard to pick which one is more deserving of the item. The /random would help that a lot. I don't get why anyone would just want the item to drop to the loot alone, if 1 person wants the item that's fine, and if you operate on dkp that's fine too. but a lot of steer clear of things like dkp, just because it leads to "ls leader hasn't been here for 3 events, but....he has the most points -.-" "uh yeah, he organizes all the events you do, stfu". So yeah it makes the who gets what system harder, but typically those who want the gear one or two relinquish cause they figure the person with the gimpest gear should get it, we typically follow that, unless its your last piece to complete a set, thats understandable too.

Yes you can say you don't want that either but too bad it looks like that decision has been made.

I would see a system where if you have the weapon in the inventory, it goes into your loot list, and you can share it with people around ya until you get out of the Bowl of Embers. The current (1.20) idea is fine, with this touch it could be even more efficient =)

Can't you understnd that when you are doing an event with a group, that you might not want to stop and have them near you to trade that item to?

It's a broken system now. They have admitted that. I'm not even talking about linkshells or engame.

First of all, please do not attempt to insult someone by questioning if they understand how need/greed works.

Secondly, it would work fine with dungeon finder. It may not be perfect, I was simply suggesting that they could build in safeguards to combat any anticipated problem with ninja-lotting.

Did you miss the part where I said that the party leader would have the ability to accept or reject any late lot in the last 5-10 seconds? Surely that would eliminate people's ability to ninja lot loot. It does not matter whether you knew them or not unless they were the ninja lotter. Perhaps party leaders would be prevented from lotting in the last 10 seconds.

My main objection to the "Need" system being based upon a job that you are currently using is not applicable to Final Fantasy because there are multiple jobs. Should you be prevented from obtaining a level 40 weapon for your PUG because it's currently level 39? Should you be prevented from obtaining a level 50 Paladin shield because you haven't completed the quest yet, although all of your other jobs are capped?

Yeah. Coming from FFXI with their individual loot list system for their latest endgame, I hope they reconsider this. It's killed off any interest for me to do the events beyond the fun of fighting the NMs because I know that we'll see items we want go to someone who can't use it many times.

We can treat that as 'weapon never dropped' but the fact that it's RIGHT THERE in your allies' hands is like a kick to the underside.

This system kills any sense of being friendly to your friends or allies and linkshells out to help each other get stuff will be stomped, stabbed and gagged.

And, as far as Need/Greed goes it's no different from the XI lot system. Anyone can click Need, no matter their level or class unless I've seriously been playing a different game. I've accidentally needed on things I can never equip on DC:UO because of my class. Who's to say Need/Greed will prevent a level 39 PGL in content, 28 CON outside from needing a 30 CON staff?

I just want to say a little story about me and ifrit. Now jeeves here isn't my main, my main has 6/7 classes at 50 with cnj being the odd man out. Mrd is my love and joy in this game and was my very first 50, it's the class I go to whenever I do anything in game. I love it's aoe and I love it's ability to be a main tank when decked out correctly.

So when I saw the ifrit axe I nearly wept with joy at how awesome a weapon it was and it became my all consuming goal just to get this one weapon. Yet after 70ish+ fights with ifrit do I have this amazing axe....no I do not. I have 3 weapons all of which I didn't want and have no plans to ever really use cause I never play on those classes (pug, arc, thm).

Yet in my ls all of the other mrds seemed to get this amazing axe, I don't fault any of them for getting it and feel a sense of joy for them cause they were there fighting ifrit day after day kill after kill and had earned it. Yet me who was also there received weps I have no desire to use.

The final straw for me was when another 50 mrd who had never done the fight hadn't shed the blood sweat and tears defeating ifrit multiple times and creating stacks of dark matter in the process received the axe ON THE FIRST FIGHT! Which just confirmed yet again to me that this system is nothing more then a method that rewards the lucky or those who can spend hours/days/weeks farming ifrit creating one of the worst and most demoralizing time sinks in game.

Shortly after that I did a few more fights with ifrit praying and hoping (but honestly no longer caring) I would finally receive my glorious axe and once I did I knew I wouldn't care anymore about this horrible drop system and could just enjoy the fight itself and anything past that would be gravy. But on my last day of fighting what did I get from this chest? Another thm wep and even more dark matter.

I can honestly say that I stopped playing the game simply because of this system, and now to hear yoshi giving an excuse as idiotic as "Stopping Ninja Looters" and to give us a bandage grind method to receive the item we want while still keeping the slim chance of just getting the weapon from the chest anyways..... I feel as though I have been slapped in the face yet again by this game.

Why is it such a pain to just have a simple system where the chest has a slim chance to drop only one weapon a fight but goes into the loot list to allow it to be given to the people who honestly desire and can use said weapon? If all future primal fights continue with this method even with the grind option I really do not see myself playing up until 2.0 cause why would I want to keep bashing my head against a wall praying and hoping I get the wep I want or get enough tokens to get my own wep (which we don't know how many or how rare those drops will be yet)?

One final thing I want to say, we don't need yoshi or his team trying to stop ninja looters. Pure and simple if a person is shown to be a ninja looter there name becomes scum in my book and all my friends books and more then likely on the whole server. Especially since this is a game where your main character is someone that you've put hours and hours of time into and just recreating a new char for the sole purpose of avoiding all the hate coming towards you isn't a viable option.

I killed Ifrit 4 times but still no axe... =(

Which just confirmed yet again to me that this system is nothing more then a method that rewards the lucky or those who can spend hours/days/weeks farming ifrit creating one of the worst and most demoralizing time sinks in game.

Shortly after that I did a few more fights with ifrit praying and hoping (but honestly no longer caring) I would finally receive my glorious axe and once I did I knew I wouldn't care anymore about this horrible drop system and could just enjoy the fight itself and anything past that would be gravy. But on my last day of fighting what did I get from this chest? Another thm wep and even more dark matter.

I can honestly say that I stopped playing the game simply because of this system, and now to hear yoshi giving an excuse as idiotic as "Stopping Ninja Looters" and to give us a bandage grind method to receive the item we want while still keeping the slim chance of just getting the weapon from the chest anyways..... I feel as though I have been slapped in the face yet again by this game.

Why is it such a pain to just have a simple system where the chest has a slim chance to drop only one weapon a fight but goes into the loot list to allow it to be given to the people who honestly desire and can use said weapon? If all future primal fights continue with this method even with the grind option I really do not see myself playing up until 2.0 cause why would I want to keep bashing my head against a wall praying and hoping I get the wep I want or get enough tokens to get my own wep (which we don't know how many or how rare those drops will be yet)?

One final thing I want to say, we don't need yoshi or his team trying to stop ninja looters. Pure and simple if a person is shown to be a ninja looter there name becomes scum in my book and all my friends books and more then likely on the whole server. Especially since this is a game where your main character is someone that you've put hours and hours of time into and just recreating a new char for the sole purpose of avoiding all the hate coming towards you isn't a viable option.

I empathize with you. There have been a few people I know that have quit or given up fighting Ifrit because of this wretched Time Sink.

It's very clear that Yoshida-san and team, while busy making FF XIV Version 2.0, don't have enough resources to generate enough content to keep us busy.

So while delivering an interesting Ifrit Primal Fight, some poor excuse for a Designer decided that the best way to stretch out the content that they gave us for 1.19 (Ifrit and Beastmen Strongholds) was to make this stupid Loot System that dumps items directly into your inventory.

Does it keep some players continually playing and trying for their desired weapon? Yes.

And they probably are playing longer than if the Loot System was like Dzemael, but ultimately Yoshida-san should've *given us the choice*. Give the Players the choice if they want to keep playing or do other things. Even if we finished getting Ifrit Weapons that we wanted (with the Normal Loot System before 1.19 that actually *worked* just fine), people could try to farm HQ Mats for HQ Weapons and Armor, or try for Double, Triple, Quadruple Meld Materia.

But at least it's our choice to keep busy or do things we want to.

This poor excuse to stretch Game Content has angered more players and driven away more people than any other End Game Content Yoshida-san has provided so far.

Yoshida-san, you're ruining the good will you've been building up until now.

I hope you reconsider.
