I'd say, keep your expectations low so you can be surprised if it's something more.
people complain why aren't they adding 2 dungeons instead of 1, a primal etc etc, they seam to forget the full brand new mini game in gold saucer, pet battles, and full new gameplay style of adventuring the airship voyages as well as beast tribe quests and new main scenario and to top it of a 24 man raid
Due to the games very easy difficulty and how handouts are given for putting no effort in, this will most likely be fun the first 5-10 times then its an annoying chore until next update where everything you have done so far collecting these gears becomes useless again. The joy of treadmill progression!
We got the entirety of the Gold Saucer, 4 trials, 3 dungeons, a 24 man raid, a new Frontlines mode, Moogle quests, Hildibrand, and the MSQ in 2.5-2.55. This patch has less spread out content, but more development put into one thing, that being Airship Exploration. SE has obviously placed a lot of bets into this content, and if it flops they're in quite a bit of trouble. I'd prefer they spent that development time on Alexander 2 so we'd get 2 raids, one 8 man and one 24 man every patch cycle, but we'll see how it turns out. Many people don't have high hopes for it, and it's already cut a lot of the promised content... Y'know, actually using your airship.
We'll be getting relics in 3.15, but I doubt that we'll get anything else substantial like a trial.
Everything depends on the exploration. Gold saucer stuff is a load of bull.
My expectations are hovering somewhere just above rock bottom.
I already explained our problem with the exploration.
We have three boats. Our crafter's want them for materials and materia. My static is mostly FC. Most of our airship control rank is primarily crafter/gatherers. Leader doesn't want to hand access out to a lot of people.
Not enough boats to go around since we can't do missions when they're always out for materials.
Let me say this. I defected here from WoW a month before HS, finished the last MS quest the NIGHT before HS. Played DRK a little (like my old DK class), 6.2 in WoW came out and went back. Came back HERE last week. This patch deliveres more than the other game has given us in 6.1, 6.2, 6.2.2 and the upcoming 6.2.3. In short, loving this game and the patches here. May not seem like much but to me it's like being given a gallon to drink after getting sips of water.
I'm going to put this bluntly and factually: nobody in this thread can give you an answer because we don't know. Nobody knows except SE as we don't have the patch notes. All I can tell you from watching the trailer and live letters is how good I think the content will be, and honestly I'm excited by it, void ark looks like there are some fun fights with interesting mechanics, as do the dungeons and SREX, the sky islands look more epic than they did in my head, and LoV looks like it will catch my interest for a while.
When will I be able to tell you if there is enough there? A month after patch day when the forums are flooded with players bored of exploratory missions :D (or sooner if they released another broken system :D)
cause running through the same zones over and over again while shit talking in shout who pulled and who wiped everyone is so much fun. lots of ppl don't even know that hunt mob actually do have mechanics, which are just pointless when zerged to death in a few seconds (kinda wasted development time, could have just let a huge training dummy spawn randomly and reward ppl with seals).
And airship exploration might be nothing more but this: hunts. just with a limited amount of ppl. though up to 72 players per instance is quite a lot.
Anyways, I am pretty sure it's gonna be big. I even expect the population to go up. I know ALOT of people from my old game coming over here. Only thing I'm scared of is the fact that the community here is the best I have ever seen in an MMO. Don't want all the toxic behavior coming over here too.
This is a pretty good way to put it. Exploratory missions and Lords of Verminion are intended to be this patches selling points (and Krile showing up) but at the expense of content that was the norm in similarly packed patches.
Agreed, this patch gives more than Warlords of Draenor with all of its patches. But like I said in the OP there are stuff that we got in every patch so far, but not now. Look up the patch notes for 2.1, 2.4, and 2.5 Those are the biggest ones.
Dunno about the mechanics but the Void arc looks like aliens abducted a bunch of horror movie monsters. I want them nooooooooooow.
But yes the big question is the longevity of exploration missions and lords of verminion. People including me played so much triple triad when it was released that it lost it's novelty in about a month. The cheating enemies didn't help either.
"we need a hard mode trial"
Um... we need a hard mode trial...? Why...? Because it's a new content patch? Because hardly anything is being added? Or...?
Yeah, idk how to feel about that need for a hm trial.
That said, I do expect LoV to be DoA (minigames even more so), TT I gave up on long ago because of the unfairness of it... Vanu is gonna be just another thing to grind out, Pharos HM might be ok and I am curious about the Arboretum; Thordan I wonder how many will even get the chance to try and beat, and pretty much the same goes for exploration: as much as they emphasise that everyone's gonna be able to participate, I can't help this feeling that it's gonna have restrictions on it that are not yet known; Void Ark is already being put down as a faceroll too much, but if it manages not to be as annoying as WoD became (especially as quickly), that in itself is gonna be nice enough. Hairstyles are quite meh, and I really don't know why those mounts could not "learn" to fly right at launch tbh.
Yeah, I just rather don't expect anything anymore.
As I said in the same post you quothed we need a hard mode trial as every addition to the main scenario ended with one. Hell even 3.0 ended the main story with a hard mode trial. It's sort of a tradition.
Can people stop comparing Airship Exploration to a dungeon please?
This whole threads point was about them only releasing 2 new dungeons instead of 3, and because of that, questioning if it's a big patch or not... Airship Exploration is way more work to get right, than simply adding another dungeon.
I would take that over another dungeon any day of the week...
Also, stop comparing everything to 2.1... Yes, we know that patch was huge, but that was a long time ago, why not compare to every other patch after that instead? For all we know, much of the 2.1 content could have been done before A Realm Reborn was even released. In fact, didn't they tell us something like that? or am I just remembering wrong...
That doesn't mean they have to add it now... In fact, one of the problems that FFXIV have, is that they keep following the same formula for everything, which makes things boring.
Not saying this will necessarily make it less boring, but just because they did it in the past, doesn't mean they have to do it every patch
If you count the 3.15 with the Relic then 3.1 seems ok. I wouldn't say it's big. It's not that big for the time it took to arrive. It took 5 months to arrive while the average "normal" interval between patches was 3 months aprox. Yes I know devs took holidays etc and this is normal too. I hope they won't make it a trend though. I hope that 3.2 will arrive in 3 months aprox. after 3.1. Cause 3.1 is not THAT big to last 5 months again.
Hmmmm, aside from a new primal and one more dungeon, I think we are getting the usual content.
- More hairstyles then previous patches.
- MSQ continues
- Exploration Island
- Beast Tribe quests
- Side Quests
- 2 new dungeons
- Alot of new minigames
Maybe its just me, but aside from a new big bad Primal, everything looks the same. If you look at what our characters will get cosmetic wise, this patch will deliver more content. Alot of hairstyles, new sitting animation, new dance and hopefully a new pose.
Being big or small patch is relative, depending on your style. Making a list makes it look big, but that list is made of little things that you do once, twice or barely do it just for the lols at the begining because it's something new but adds nothing in the long rung. That's all ff14 is about, it's a theme park mmo after all. It just depends if that satifies you. c:
We always got 3 Hard Mode dungeons in patches 2.X's o.o
From another point of view: considering there'll be a one day long maintenance to go along with the release of 3.1, accompanied by Mog Station and Lodestone maintenances as well... yeah, looks like it's gonna be "BIG". xD
I think its just 800-900MB
While having to cycle through just 2 dungeons every Expert s'cks, some people are making too big of a deal about it...
Majority of players simply run those dungeons for the Expert Roulette bonus, and then maybe some more non-roulette runs to catch up on tomestones...
In terms of how much content there is for you to do every week, if you only do roulettes, then it wouldn't matter if there is 2 dungeons or 1000 dungeons, since you'll just do one run. It would be a much more varied experience ofc, and therefore be less boring, but it's not like there is much less for you to do in the game.
Airship Exploration on the other hand, is another type of content on top of dungeons, and will give you more to do.
I think people should complain less about the dungeon issue, and just support SE's decision to break the formula with some new type of content.
EDIT: Hell, I could even live with 1 new dungeon, if it meant we got even more new content... Dungeons are faceroll easy and boring, so unless they make some changes to them, I'll quickly be bored with them whether there's 1 or 5 new dungeons.
Arent we getting the new relic, AGAIN ? Nor the materias V AGAIN ?
I think I would rather have Thordan Ex over a new Primal right now, that fight has so much potential.
The story mode version has all of these mechanics that give next to no punishment if not done properly and could make for a really exciting fight if done properly.
idky people have little hope in FF. It is not like they pulled a wow or anything. We got loads of different content instead of the same predictable stuff we get every month. I for one am ready for 3.1.
Your explanations are unacceptable.
that's what every airship is doing now because that's all they can do now. your FC needs new leadership if before the content has even come out they declared they won't let your FC members actually play the game. your FC probably also needs a better "CFO", exploration missions will have unique gathering points which probably means an FC can make a lot more gil doing that than the ventures. ventures should only be good for leveling up the ships.
you're unimpressed with something that doesn't exist?
my expectations are fairly limited, as long as they are better than hunts and my friends can group up to do it once a week, than it's already better than i hope.
It all depends of the exploratory content. If it goes over like a lead balloon there will likely be problems had with 3.1. It doesn't sound like it will though.(actually sounds like a breath of fresh air for fc activities)

Grayed out thing called "The Diadem". Sounds like a story trial to me.
Doesnt really appear to be all that big. The meat of the content is... new content. Good, they did their job, we pay them monthly to do this.
There should be a lot done about class balancing and ability adjustments. This is an area that needs just as much attention, yeah they need to bring out new content, the content patch is 90 days overdue in my opinion. On a subscription based game the worst thing you can do is wait almost 5 months for your first major patch.
Just an opinion. Id like to see the full patch notes ahead of time. They know if they do that they could lose subs. SE has a lot to learn.
It's going need to be big after the content draught. I feel like this is the worse time for SE to drop the ball for content, given the situation with lasting raid, crafting, gathering and just... content in genreal for your typical player.
There are some class adjustments last I recall anyway, in regards to PLD, NIN and a side mention to BRD/AST.
hmm... I guess exploratory missions are missing, but who chose the word "Diadem" for that? The "crown"? It sounded more to me like a trial. "The Chrysalis". "The Dragon's Neck". "The Navel". "The Diadem" sounds like a fight in throne room, or near a symbol of power.
Man, FFXIV has the weirdest sense of naming things. Bees named "vespas" in Neverreap... ok, it means "wasp" but I associate that more with the motor vehicle. But then a little later, jellyfish named "wasps". So two things named "wasp" in the same dungeon, one can kill you, the other is a freaking jellyfish.
