To me, the original post seemed pretty genuine and to the point. Unlike many of the responses that followed it also didn't feel like trolling.
I guess nobody here asks the cable or phone company to pony up when their service is down for a day. Also, while everyone is busy ranting about the amount of pennies, I see requests like this as being less about the money, and more about encouraging developers to minimize downtime rather than just taking everyones tolerance for granted. Pennies to the individual add up to amounts worth taking into consideration when a company starts compensating for downtime.
Hey Mr. Waiter, there is too much ice in my water, I need a refund.
Love these dumb complaints
Literally no mmo ever does this.
Plus it's ~48¢ . What are you even going to buy with that? Even if they gives us crysta, you wouldn't even have enough to buy anything.
They are improving the service.
If the cable man comes out to your house to upgrade your modem but needs to shut down the service while he does it are you going to ask him for a refund for the time it took him to do the maintainence? No, that is dumb. I would like to hear how that conversation would go though.
The thing is though, the point of this downtime is to minimize the downtime after launch. We all know the servers are going to get hit hard. If you believe that we live in a world where they'll definitely weather the storm without even a hiccup with no maintenance ahead of time I want you to give me directions to it, because I'd like to live in that world too.
So if 24 hours might ensure we have more stability after Launch? I say let them take it. This would be an excellent time to spend time with your friends and family before you shut the door and are effectively dead to the world for the weekend/next week.
I, for one, would like the 50¢ to spend on a can of soda at Walmart... Ok not really.
All data and phone vendors have SLA's (service level agreements). They are required to maintain a certain percentage of uptime in given regions on their network. In most cases, you would need to be out of service for days on end for the SLA to dip into the area where compensation is legally required.
Most vendors give the people who call and complain about a single day outage a piecemeal credit of some kind, to keep them happy and paying the bill for months to come (it's easier this way).
That said, according to our agreement with SE, we are entitled to $0 compensation.
Well, I've honestly never played a game where everyone was given compensation for scheduled maintenance. I also personally don't feel like 24 hours is unreasonable for an expansion as large as Heavensward. Regardless of her intentions with the post, I don't think any of the forum mods or GMs have the power to credit an extra day to her account. If they had any plans for compensating all players, I'm sure they would have announced it somewhere by now.
Regarding the cable/phone company thing -- m3eansean beat me to it.
You do understand that you are under contract to accept downtime for maintenance and updates? The existence of competition to this policy does not entitle you to an exemption. This is part of your Terms of Service. Please become acquainted to it before you waste Customer Service's time.
-FACEPALM-
Please say this is a joke post....Please tell me that this is a joke post....
Is it?
Yes?
I think everyone who asks this should be thrown into a no maintanance, no updates pool. No updates means no ARR, they would be playing vanilla FFXIV, with ATB, full fatigue system and not a lot to do after leveling via leve-links, just spamming the same leves over and over again. also with the massive high level mob (pieste outside Ul'dah for instance) that would one-shot you as soon as you left town, over and over again.
omg maintenance is to fix things in the game or add content there has been 24 hr downtimes since i started playing ive been through about 5 of them i just play something else or get out in the real world for a change lol
Smartphone app games. Seriously. There's a new standard now that if an update takes more than x amount of time people cry out for compensation. And a lot of companies give it just to shut people up (and since it's pixels, it's free on their end). Unfortunately this ideology has expanded to a lot of other games regardless of reason or medium.
To OP: there's nothing wrong with feeling the way you do. And if you wish to follow through with it then customer service is indeed your best bet. But like others have said: this is part of the agreement you signed when joined ARR. And it's just how MMOs work. To maintain these servers there has to be downtime. There just has to be. Sorry you feel cheated. :/
Early access is compensation enough for me.
Might want to read the terms of service again.
yeah, it's called heavensward xD
Have you read term and condition?
5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE
From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or Garlean authority, act of Bahamut, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.
You have every right to decline the user agreement if you don't like it.
Can I also get compensated if there's a 4 hour maintenance they do every other week?
I can't believe someone is asking this just because of 1 day of maintenance for the expansion. O_o
Makes me wonder what the OP would expect during the month of February or any other month that's shorter than another.?
"Well in January I got 31 days for my monthly sub, but then in February I got 28 days. Will we be compensated for this?"
Anyone else laugh really hard?
Can I get compensated for reading this thread
I just resubbed on monday and don't care about the servers being down for one full day. They also posted on the 6th that the server would be down. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...ba56e0645473da
Thanks for the laugh.
New expansion content x server downtime. Go hand in hand.
What dream world is OP living in?
Subscribing comes with the understanding that the services itself is subject to interruptions at any given time due to maintenance or other reasons and you wave the right to seek any sort of compensation for it. See here in the terms of service itself:

As you can see, you agreed to this when you signed up and paid for your sub.
send me your paypal address, ill send you 35 cents to cover your lost day tosser:mad:
Compensate #deeznutz
Yeah. They're giving us Heavensward a whole 3 days early.
If this was just a software patch, the patches could be spread across several days or weeks to avoid downtime. However, from what I understand they're also doing hardware upgrades at the same time. As someone who has worked in a data center - yeah, you want to give yourself a 24 hour window if you can just in case something goes horribly horribly wrong.
Is the OP troll-ing?
im confused why do you want compensation for a day of maintenance?? work it out how many hours a day do u sleep in a month?? thats alot more then 1 day maintenance do u want compensation for all those hours ur sleeping aswell?? XD
