Which is funny, because Healer quests do the opposite. Especially Cnj/Whm theirs even cover stance dance madness to an extent.

Thanks for the replies all - and yep, I agree with Kosmos and the general sentiment here. I think I may have mis-named the thread, and I should've thrown 'in duty finder' in there, as I think that there actually is a shortage of tanks, but this shortage is only of tanks willing to do Duty Finder // I think many here have admitted to keeping to their own FC or friends to use their tanks and yes, this does lead to a shortage in Duty Finder if many won't queue up for it. My own personal 'straw that broke the camels back' was when I was verbally abused for not knowing the Yeti mechanics while running it on the first day it came out.... yes, the first day. And this from a BLM who did nothing but spam flare and didn't have ARC leveled high enough for Quelling... After that - yep, no more tanking except for friends -- it wasn't fun and I only play this game for fun :)
One of the things I'm actually worried about, is I main tank classes (plan to level DRK too)... but I will be taking almost a year off to travel in the fall.
When I come back, it's going to be a steep learning curve filled with a-holes yelling at me in DF dungeons.
Games should NOT be stressful like this. From one nerd to another guys, stop being such douchebags to each other! We're all here to have fun and play an ONLINE GAME. GAME. It's a GAME.
As healer main I also won't do DF stuff unless I know at least half of the party. Unless it's the 24 man raids. Those can be hell either way.
I have mained as a tank in several MMO"a including this one. I have been reading a lot of this stuff lately and find it rather confusing. We as the player pay to play this game the way we want. If you want to tank but are too scared to do it just remember your paying 15 bucks a month. Doesn't matter what class you play as people are going to be rude about anything and everything. Sure getting berated blows as even I have had it happen. However, no one is forcing you to read those berating comments. There is a reporting tool for people who abuse vote kick for retarded reasons, use it. If you don't want to because your afraid you won't perform well enough then research your job/role so that you can. You shouldn't let anyone force you to or to not play whatever role it is you wish. This is just a game and it's one you pay for. Spend your money the way you want to.
I get anxious as crazy when I tank. Healer is where I'm happiest. No anxiety what so ever. I feel bad if I let someone die, but for some reason, my confidence as a healer lets me shed any undue criticism off like it's nothin'. I give tanking a try every now and again; maybe some day I can learn to roll whether "dey hatin'" or not.
That's because most of players who has side tank class but dont actually play it level it from FATE despite the almost instant queue tanks could have.. That's why most ellitist are against the existance of fate because it brings "lazy" players to just grind exp blindfolded..
I used to belong to an FC with around 20 members and 2 social LS with 50-60 active members with a static LS. While what you wrote here are mostly true, the players who actually never set foot on DF and only rely on FC/LS members would create toxic behaviour since they would always compare how someone from their LS/FC to those random who these toxic players less care about and actually are those people who are responsible for abusing tanks and healers..
Now as i write this.. This has basically come from my side of story when it's almost everyday the LS/FC players give lots of complains about this random tanks or healers who are performing bad(in their eyes) in LS or FC chat.. While in some cases even though the random tend to play good or just simply having different strategy, these toxic players would blame them simply because they areart of random/strangers..
PS: I am one of those tank/healer/DPS who is being leeched by those dps from LS and FC simply because i can use the holy trinity and dont bother going into any instances..
True, however just because you enjoy pulling 2 mobs doesn't mean a dps enjoys it. Whose enjoyment matters more? Obviously you believe yours and that mentality is the true elitest mentality that everyone thinks only the highest ilvl'd ppl can have. Sorry but its mostly players like this guy.
It's not about being epeen, its about having to run a dungeon 60 times to get a drop and not wanting to effectively double or triple the amount of time the dungeon takes, and don't talk pf cause I have tried, you cannot form a pf pt for zodiac drop runs. No one wants to join.
All this talk about abused tanks just irritates me. The tanks I usually encounter in df pts think that they have the only opinion that matters. If they want to wear lvl 25 gear in a lvl 40+ raid we are supposed to adjust accordingly. If they want to take 2 minutes to mark 3 mobs, we need to wait, if they want to only attack one mob and no do their job by flashing or rotating rargets, we need to avoid anything that could possibly pull agro from anything other than the one single solitary mob the tank is focused on. And don't even get me started on the tanks who WALK instead of moving at the default pace because of RP or just because they wanna.
There are abusive dps but there are also abusing and extremely lazy tanks who have the mentality that they can do whatever they want cause they wont be kicked. The road goes 2 ways so stop blaming everyone else and maybe check your own attitude.
I must have some amazing luck. I believe everyone about being treated poorly and whatnot, but it's just never been my experience. I've had 2 healers rage quit for being unable to heal me, even though nobody even blamed them for it. The first time I thought it might be my fault, but the replacement was a lesser geared healer who did a much better job, so I suppose it was just one of those odd cases of a bad player getting mad at others for their own incompetence.
Usually the DPS players are between fine and great. Every now and then I get thrown for a loop when both DPS have 5k+ hp but mobs stay alive way too long and I realize that they're just terrible but usually you can tell how things will go right away.
I may even be inclined to play WAR more full time given the experiences that I've had. It's a lot less auto-pilot than the DPS I'm used to, which can be good or bad, but it's nice rolling in commendations and not searching for things to do during the long downtime.
My issue is with tanks that wanna skip as much of a dungeon as possible. I sit in queue for a hour just to have tank try and kill my xp gain because they in a bloody hurry.
I've been fine so far being a tank and do everything with PUGs. Never been harassed whatsoever (yet). I agree, those dpses don't feel comfortable unless it's a speed run. What's irritating me is even when they're undergeared and incapable of killing mobs fast, they keep pushing me to mass pull everything, especially those bards, always bards are like that, I dunno why.
When I DF as DPS, I have to wait 3 to 10 times as long, and when the party has incompetent tanks or healers, I go "NOPE" and go back to queuing as healer again after.
When I queue as healer, at least the healing portion is something I know and can even deal with incompetent co-healers. But 1 in 10 runs results in a wipe somewhere that it shouldn't (eg the first pull in any dungeon) due to the tank trying to speedrun without any idea where everyone is. Then it's usually the tank who is rude.
The trolls are real. As a tank or healer, why should you waste time with DPS being jerks. But it's also unfair to the DPS who weren't being jerks, and were doing their job.
The commendation system is hence broken. It should present a slightly larger form after you exit the instance (before allowing another DF run) with:
Replacement players (eg someone disconnected or had to leave) would not be evaluated if they joined after the boss room was locked.Quote:
In your last Duty Finder group, rate the following (hitting cancel will rate everyone average):
- The speed of play was
a) Average
b) Too fast
c) Too slow
(tank name) did X% of the damage and held threat Y% of the time
a) This tank's job was average
b) This tank's job was above average
c) This tank's job was below average
d) This tank was avoiding doing their job
(repeat if 2 tanks)
(healer name) did healed X%, overhealed by Y%, and DPS'd for %Z
a) This healer's job was average
b) This healer's job was above average
c) This healer's job was below average
d) This healer was avoiding doing their job

(DPS name) did did X% of total DPS damage and Y% support, and carried threat for Z% of the time
a) This DPS' job was average
b) This DPS' job was above average
c) This DPS' job was below average
d) This DPS was avoiding doing their job
(repeat for each DPS)
Overall would you play with these players again?
a) Yes
b) No
Abandoning or exiting an instance, would automatically give the player a "was avoiding their job" rating. Being kicked would automatically give the kicked player a "was avoiding their job" for AFK.
It's not perfect, but currently doing anything inside the instance would take too much time, and the loot mechanics are the only thing that prevents some players from being kicked.
And when matching players in the future, prioritize players who play well together. Players that are consistently marked "was avoiding doing their job" (eg being carried, locked out on purpose, letting co-healer or co-tank do everything) would be barred from playing that role in those dungeon instances again until they improve on easier content.
Like even without the report card above, just having a way to signal to the DF matching system that a player is abusive, don't match them with me again would quickly make players be nicer and stop trolling otherwise they will be locked out of rewarding content.
Why do people say tank this and dps that. Those tanks AND dps that behave as jerks or unkind is a PERSON. I am sure that person play not just as a tank or dps. I encountered a player/person in 2 DF. He decided to switch roles from dps to healer cuz he couldnt handle the bad things he was getting for that pt.
Instead that player became rude in the other pt. He shpuld have show hat bravery with the prior pt. He was a coward.
Same, I prefer to heal in DF, I have less responsability and faster queue times than DPS. That's the reason I commendate the tank most of the time, because that person was brave enough to get in DF with some random people. I used to tank in DF a lot, and even if it went... well? maybe? I ended up discussing with a lot of people. To avoid such stress: Healer. I DPS the thingies, I heal the tank, I raise the DRG, everything is fine. I do my thing and the tank controlls the flow of the time as I just sit back and relax.
Sometimes I feel the tanks develop a cocky attitude as a defensive response against people in DF. D:
As someone who plays all 3 roles to a competent degree, Tank is the simplest role. My 2 cents on the situation is that, DPS is "more fun," and the general game populace can't handle the pressure of being a tank.
Tank role is very delicate, a tank error often lead to a wipe, whether its forgetting to count stacks, repositioning/placement or not getting a CD off. These lead to wipes right off the bat. However tank management is very simple, and often a tank can focus on their task without having to think about the party. Threat management is very easy in ffxiv. Simple, but little room for error
Healers have the most complex role in the game. Often healers are expected to dodge, add dps, manage debuffs, manage mana, watch for 1-shot attacks winding-up while healing and constantly looking back and forth between the action and party health bars. However there is plenty of leeway for healing errors.
DPS, know your rotation, know how to dodge, know target priority, know when to LB. Threat management is non-existent after the first 7.5 seconds into an encounter. However a dps death is medium-high on wipe factor as DPS checks are always a thing, and raising anyone costs a huge chunk of mana. Medium room for error.
In the ole XI days, tanks were generally loved, especially while leveling up. It was an untold rule that a tank bears the burden of death to save the party when things go terribly wrong. "Good tanks" were the talk of the town whenever they showed up to a scene or made their presence known.
In XIV, when tanks are blamed, much of the time its a dps that can't assist tank target. They are unjustly kicked or harassed for the rest of the dungeon/raid/trial run. Tanks set the tempo of battle, not the dps, but often dps (sometimes healers) feel the need to pull extra mobs so they can aoe stuff, down and in the end blame the tank for not picking up the adds. The list is endless. So its a crap situation, of illogical blame game.
Agreed... most of my friends have tank class lvl 50, but not all of them have healer lvl 50 (T_T)
Some of them are lazy to DF as a Tank not because lack of respect or what, it's just they're lazy to do it so.
I never met any disrespectful actions towards any other member in Masamune during dungeons or raid.
If things goes wrong we just vote abandon, no drama at all and less talking just do our own job.
I'm not sure about the NA/EU culture, but from all the post that I have read things kinda different I think.
That is genuinely your own fault for joining a random pug and expecting quality. If you were good, you'd be recognised and have people willing to help you as they'll help you in return. Seriously. It is all on you. Now you can do your duty finders, pray you find another person doing duty finders that will recognise you enough to take you in or you can join parties in the party finder, find a decent free company, be helpful and be helped.
If you join randoms, don't whine when you get random. If you don't talk to your party, don't whine when it's not organised. Everything that can go wrong in a party is entirely on you to organise it. If you can't, you're at the exact spot in life you belong in.
Enjoy your pugs. ;)
Speaking of trolling, had a healer in my Labyrinth alliance that refused to participate. When everyone in the party & other alliances started calling them out on it, the healer resorted to calling everyone "fags". Luckily he was quickly replaced after the Atomos fight. (Yes, I am quite aware that the Crystal Tower raids, and Atomos in particular, are prime fights that trolling occurs.)
I would say that low level roulette may be responsible of most of those problems. New tanks enter it to learn but those dungeons are so easy for synched lvl50 that any of them can tank it.
If its not a bard decide to pull every mobs one by one (darn, the tank provoke it back, i will pull that other one while he build back aggro on it) its the whitemage who spam medica (hey, i can both tank and heal everyone :D )
So they end up running everywhere and basicly learn nothing.
After a few of those tiring experiences, they just end up grinding Fates in Coerthas while ppl are complaining that no tanks are in DF or the tanks there dont know what they are doing.
Well (to be completely honest), they do this in call centers to make the CSR (call center representative) responsible for intentionally bad calls, and they also realize that the most pissed off person will mark everyone down out of spite.
Those surveys tend to fall outside the 95% mark and aren't counted against the CSR. Now if the CSR was getting this EVERY time, then the problem is the CSR (or the skill queue they are put in.)
But the surveys do not replace monitored quality assessments. The survey only proves that you weren't paying attention to the customers needs. (When I worked a queue that was specifically giving people uninformative DMCA notices, I got mostly bad scores, because who would ever consider "you are ruining my business (selling counterfeits)" a good outcome.) What the customer doesn't realize is that those surveys would never ever count.
In the context of FFXIV, a survey for low-level content would have the highest weighting, while the hardest content would would have the lowest weighting, since less people play it. You would have to have a >50% low rating on a Coil run to be blocked from it, where as a >25% low score would be enough to be blocked from low level.
A player who "abuses" the survey system would have their weighting reduced, which in turn would likely result in them being unable to use the DF with that role if it was.
If you mark everyone low, you are marking yourself as low.
I have all classes to 50, but I probably tank the least. Why? I just don't really enjoy it. It tends to be either boring or frustrating imo.
Healing is my favourite and has decent queue times, so I would rather queue as something I enjoy.
I'll tank on request for friends, but otherwise rarely.
I avoid playing DF, it's already hard enough.
Tanks assumeing they're the boss leads the the oppsite issue of rude entitled tanks. It's a vicious cycle. (PS, unless you're in a premade, there is no boss unless someone is new the dungon. If a DPS is the most experianced member, then let them give out orders that will help the group)
PLD is my main, but I avoid DF because of situations like this one:
http://oi62.tinypic.com/w8waah.jpg
I did try to queue as DPS (because I need light for my DRG) but the queue was insane, so I changed my mind and just went with my main. At first boss of KotL, I decided to roll a smoke (30 seconds or even less) which equals to the time to go to bio for some and this DPS starts insulting (in the img red = mean DRG DPS, green = healer). He afked the 1st boss fight and the rest of the dungeon while throwing insults from time to time, then we kicked him right before the last boss fight.
That kid was an idiot, but I'm not seeing anything unique to tanks here. I see these morons all the time (especially when they're bad players themselves, demanding to be kicked in similar situations).
I've seen a lot of these "oh boo hoo, us poor tanks" posts lately and I call BS on it. I never see tanks get any treatment ingame except people brainlessly throwing commendations at them regardless of how well or poorly they did and tanks themselves treating the entire game like their personal speedrun factory and whining if anyone doesn't like it.
No offense, but your system is inherantly bad because:
1) It forces people to do it, or else "Risk marking yourself down"
2) Anything that inconveniences players will naturally see them just leaving it to the natural answers (Your idea of hitting esca)E
3) It should NEVER be forced on a player.
I don't mind an optional survey/option at the end. Optional is good. I always select "No" on optional surveys. But like I said, the moment you try and -force- it on me? That's when I'll just put everything was ****.
I like the current system of commendations. People will gravitate towards whatever they usually gravitate towards. Exceptional play, and some people might give you -extra- coms. But never forced. Never.
These threads always confuse me because, on Aether, I've never gotten guff as a tank. At least not that I can remember, so not very much, and not enough to be worth running from the role with (And I've definitely made bad mistakes when I was learning, but I don't remember abuse for it--just friendly advice 'try sprinting if you're going to train' 'oh well, that's a good idea, derp on me for not thinking of it' or 'Yeah you really need to flash that group' back when I thought face pulling was in any way acceptable, and probably deserved vitriol for that--but didn't get it). Hell, even when I'm not tanking and get a tank who's very very very bad I don't see them getting a lot of abuse. Maybe a lot of advice, and eventually people leaving the dungeon if it's not taken, but I don't know that I've seen a tank get abuse very often. It's happened here and there. Usually from a healer who's not very good trying to redirect blame onto a tank that's not over geared or, when leveling, at minimum level for the content being too squishy. Very rarely from DPS.
On the other hand, the reason I leveled PLD (and, later, War, which I play more often now) to 50 was because of the abuse tanks were giving in dungeons. Again, usually, when they ALSO weren't very good. I can't count the number of times tanks have been complete dicks in Copperbell Hard, for instance, while never using cooldowns, barely (if at all) holding aggro, and rarely using AoE aggro gain of any sort leading to a healer being attacked, and all while pulling single groups.
My first run in Steps of Faith I went in as DPS (because I always go in first as DPS to learn things without bringing down the party as much), and we failed because of a tank with an overinflated ego taking the lead and holding the adds nowhere near where the cannons could hit on the second or third day of it being out (I waited for family to do the newest MSQ when 2.55 dropped). We wiped like twice, he left, and the party fell apart. I queued again as a tank and we wiped once due to almost everyone being new (and the first dragon killer missing as a result), and passed the second time.
Nearly every horror story I could tell about dealing with toxic players or rubbing my face along a grater through dungeons has been toxic tanks. I can count on one hand the number of toxic DPS I've met as a tank and healer.
So, basically, this whole thing is odd to me because in my experience tanks are the most abusive group, followed by healers, and I only go into dungeons as a DPS when I'm with a tank I know (and I know and like a number of them), and if I'm going to solo DF I'm going in as war (or whm sometimes if it's healer in need but that's pretty rare). Or I'm leveling a DoW/DoM.
I am first to admit I do not tank in DF to many bad experiences when I tried, and I will not put up with idiots. I am an average tank, I do tanking for friends when they need and that's it. I am a panic player when it comes to tanking and healing and unfortunately i had 80% of bad experiences when in DF tanking. - the only time I go in DF as tank is if I have at least 1 of my friends with me.
DF was the reason I stopped tanking all together for 6 months, then my friends got me out of my shell and we started going slowly into dungeons with them guiding me. So yeah, if a friend asks I won't have problem tanking, but you won't see me in DF :) - aside my main is BRD (and second is SMN)
I was whm as main, hated it. Tested blm as main , all fun. But then 2 RL friends started playing and they both DPS, so I went and leveled gladiator with em. And I fell in love with my Paladin. As a tank I am in some sort of "controll". And after watching other tanks win and fail several times, I knew what to do and not to do. But it took some balls from my end to actually test out Extreme primals, and other new content in the Duty finder. But by being diplomatic and understanding. Letting em know ur new to the dungeon, please give me tips or whatnot, alwawys helps. I actually get a little adrenaline kick from testing out new stuff now.
The key is Communication. Constructive Communication. And if ppl are rude, shrug it off, reply with kindness or very diplomatic understandable replies. And in most cases ppl reply kindly back and say sorry for being rude. If they still are rude, ignore. And move on in the duty. Dont waste energy on going down to their rude level.
It is actually very very simple. What you are telling me , Would you have someone tell you the same? I dont want ppl to be rude to me for no reason or some small belitteling reason in a game.. So I dont spit out rudeness onto others.
I do DF everyday as PLD sometimes alone , sometimes with a dps or heal FC/LS friend. And havent met one rude person from my 1 year MainTanking in Duty finder. And instant join queue is just super. As a family guy I love the feeling i can just sit down press "Join" in duty finder, And in I go. I check the HP of my fellow group mates. And this will give me some sort of indication on how big pulls I can do. If I wanna try big big, I ask first if they are up to it.
The only thing that anyos me regarding DPS (and yes I played BLM as main in the start) is the instant nuking as soon as my shield lob hits the boss. Let me build up some hate for 5 seconds. Your super though hard nukes 1 second after pull isnt helping the group.. And in Tower 24 man runs this just messes up the whole start of the boss fight.. Hate control goes both ways! And Bards, in DF give me that MP song, so we can flash the entire duty bright with lights! (yes I have Riot blade, but mp song makes it more effecient in the long run. And I can stun trash mob around me while flashing.) Tanking is fun, hope to see ya in the duty someday!
And a side note: Its easy to learn dps.there is always one or more of you in every duty. If in doubt look or ask the next DPS in group. As Tanks your the only one there. And if ur new and never tanked b4 how would you know what to do. (excluding 2 tanks duties). So the overall learning curve for tanks is a bit longer than other jobs. Healers also get it hard in start. So all dps'ers, have patience. If u watch something grows, it usually grows into something beautifull. It all depends on how you say it, not what you say.
Yikes, that's pretty hostile of them. Still, I'm glad you didn't give him or her the satisfaction of an early kick. Some people need to be taught a lesson or they'll never learn in the end.
I play a Paladin myself, and I've had my fair share of hostile players. Mercifully, I find most parties are quite happy to just get on with things, but there are always those passive-aggressive types (who are almost inevitably DPS jobs) which like to pull extra mobs just to speed through content quicker. This is often done regardless of whether the healer can keep up.
Still, my thoughts are that people just prefer playing DPS classes because they get to deal large amounts of damage. When you can visualize your contributions to the group, it ultimately feels a bit more rewarding.
I'm pretty confused here. O.o
So many people really abuse tanks? I remember only like 1 or 2 times a tank got yelled at, and one of them was by the other tank...
While I was still learning how to tank, I was verbally abused lot of times and lot of time people pulled because I was to slow with them - if this happens now I just stand there looking at them and let them die (because if I do df normally the healer is a friend of mine, so we just watch them die)
-------------------
I try always to be nice whatever role I am in a dungeon, and if I have nothing nice to say or if they irritate me so much I just am silent. Whatever the job i am in (tank/healer/dps)
As someone who plays WAR (got it to 50 on the 30/07/2014) and maybe occasional PLD in DF nearly every day. I can remember only a few times someone was complaining.
Had many tanks while leveling other classes that couldn't tank if their life depended on it and not listening to advice and they never got any of the "abuse".
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I found the abuse died down once I was well geared, but yeah... early low-geared tanks can get all kinds of abuse. It's really unfair to up and coming players to try and deal with the kinds of situations being forced on them. As a White Mage healing one particular Paladin, I had to warn him to ignore the DPS's calls for larger pulls because he simply didn't have the gear to survive them.
I usually don't run into a lot of rude players prolly cause I'm on a Jp server and they don't really express attitude as often. Majority of Jp dps I get in the df are quite and just do there jobs well and don't pull cause they can, on occasion I get one dps who is in such a rush that they love to pull bosses themselves. Since I run roulettes with my friend and we swap tank and healer roles we 100% of the time if a dps pulls trash or a boss cause they want to go faster we wait outside of the boss room with the other pug dps and let them die. Usually followed by the response are you done trying to rush now?
I'm on Jap server, most player here not that talkative, we all assume everyone know their roles.
And from what I have experienced Tank and Healer will try to synch their pace together,
whether Tank will slow down for Healer to catch up or vice versa, DPS just following around.
And nowaday there are many player that going T13 just want try to Tank and Heal there.
Things got pretty messy sometimes, but I'm not really that mad because after 15min we vote abandon and try again.
Also the act of dealing damage is more engaging to most people.
