Ahh, the million gill question. Based on what Lahabrea said about the Ultima spell we can be pretty sure that the Ascians are older than the Allagans. Wether they corrupted them is, unanswered at this point.

To clarify a few things; Davania is a region on our continent, Aldenard, and Meracydia is a separate continent to the south. It was/is the Meracydians who worship Bahamut. This is likely why the Allag enslaved their race, to feed Bahamut while he sat in Dalamund (cue "Answers").
I, personally, don't think the Au Ra are 'related' to any dragon-race we know of, if any at all. A case could be made if we're to look at the origin of all life on Hydaelyn though.
Also, I believe there is very little doubt now that the Ascians are influencing the Arch Bishop. The question now is, to what extent does their scheme permeate the Theocracy? Are all Ishgard's motives extrinsic, have they always been?
I can imagine Koji rubbing his hands together and smiling at the speculations from all of us. It will be interesting to see how close (or not ) we are to the story as it unravels. But part of being a good story teller is for people to question where it goes from here, were they paying enough attention to the whole story or did they miss some little clues? I wonder what they can tell us now and what we have to wait for?
With the Ascians in control of so much I wouldn't be supprised if they are directly behind Garlemauld's rise from a no body city state to the most powerful empire since Allag.
By doing that they allowed the battle of silvertear skys to free the primals, manipulated the Ishgaudians to shutting off their borders at the same time as crushing Alahmigo, AND then tricking/manipulating Nael van Darnus to freeing Bahamut from Dalamuld with the meteor project.
Lets face it, it's exceptionally likly that we've done nothing but play into their hands the whole time. After all, one of the perks of immortality is the ability be VERY patient.
Yes, and Lahabrea is hinted to play the game since Hydaelyn showed up. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that even his defeat in the praetorium was part of the plan. Elidibus at first seemed to dislike Lahabrea and having a different plan but we saw the two of them together corrupting the Archbishop, so that was likely a lie. Question is, will we kick out Lahabrea before Ishgard becomes playable or will we be forced to fight for them against the dragons? We will likely know more in 2.5
As for the Au Ra, I'm sure they really are connected to dragons someway. That's what would make sense thematically with the expansion.
That did occur to me. The existence of asian stlye dragons I mean. But....that won't work. Look at the horns, especially the male horns. Asian dragons don't have horns like that.
Hey, what if Au Ra are somehow a hybrid of western and eastern dragons. More specificly a female eastern and a male western dragon. That would explain why there is such a significant dimorphism between the sexes and why Yugiri can lead the Domans. Her kind are symbols of wisdom for her people.
There's actually a fairly wide range of horn types for different eastern dragons, its just the best known as a particular horn type. SE has done alot of obscure references with the Dravinian Horde so far with western stuff, it wouldn't be out of place to reference more obscure eastern dragons for the Au Ra diversity.
Dragoon quest line.. summery.. The Eye and Nidhogg.
If Dragoons are meant to fight against dragons then. Au'ra probably fight with them in a manner like the Dragoons in XI. (speculation)
Whether half demon or dragon. Remember and I'll quote "Despite convincing research by top academics from around the realm and beyond, most Miqo'te scholars refuse to believe that there may be some ancestral connection between their race and cats (fat or not)."
I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same thing with the Au'ra
Actually that is a community misconception. Miqo'te are humanoids with feline traits, sure, but they are not related to cats. Or at least, lore says they do not consider themselves related to them, so hunting other felines shouldn't be an issue for them. I for one never call my Miqo'te a catman or kitty or anything of the sort, and was actually glad when SE backed up my stance if only a bit with the fat cat minion.

I think Yugiri hides her face so players dont know the new race. After this she will take the mask off and say oops forgot i was wearing this :DDD
Just saying its true, humonoids can develop from cats ;) The Cat" or simply "Cat". He is the humanoid descendant of a modern domestic cat called Frankenstein who had been Dave Lister's pregnant pet cat.[1] He may be the last remaining member of his species, Felis sapiens.[2] His species expanded and evolved into a humanoid form over 3,000,000 years while sealed in the cargo hold of Red Dwarf while Dave Lister was in suspended animation.[1] They formed a religion based on the saviour of Frankenstein: "Cloister the Stupid", the father of their race according to their legends (actually Lister), and "Fuchal", their promised land (actually the Fiji Islands, a place Lister held in high regard and planned to retire to)

I salute in your general direction for being the first to manage a Red Dwarf reference in this thread.
Ya know, that actually sounds like a preaty decent way to reveal it. An epic battle in Courthas, Yugiri and her Shinobi fighting along the Scions and Knights of the Holy See, THEN in the midst of battle Yugiri is injured by taking a blow for a cerin Ishgaurdian we've met and in the prosses her hood falls back to revale a Draconian (Yet Beautiful) face beneath it to the Ishgaurdian Knight who atempts to save her (the verry commoner turned Knight commander we meet in 2.4's story) and despite his shock (And that of his subordenents) he throws caution, sanity, and the very teachings of the holy see to the wind to avenge her. (Though do to here iLvl 800 plot armor she'll live and be the start of Ishgaurd's change that will lead to Heavensward's main plot and the opening of the Gates to the out side)
That's probably the only way. Earlier I would have given a chance to the possibility that she removes her hood to intimidate someone with her draconic features, but taking into account the unnatural beauty of the Au Ra I hardly think that would still be possible.
Perhaps they could have a separate starting city for the first few levels, but not for long enough to help the story issues any.
We're already divided into different cities for the first 15 levels, but even that much is a recurring issue in the New Player forum. Players who join to play with their friends want to be able to actually play with their friends. Currently, complaints about being separated for the first few levels can be countered by pointing out that once you reach level 15 you'll be able to go anywhere and the storylines will all merge at that point, so past that you can play with whomever you want. But that reassurance only works (or in some cases works) because level 15 is a pretty quick and easy threshold to meet.
It certainly wouldn't work to say that because someone wants to play a Miqo'te, they can't play with their Au Ra friend until after they level from 1 to 50 and play through all the story content through 2.5. (And that's not to mention the fact that that would require an equivalent amount of Au Ra specific content on the other side of that barrier, effectively doubling the size of the game before even reaching the new content that extends rather than parallels the story.)
The problem aren't starting cities but Ishgard related quests and Yugiri's quests.
