Au'ra conflict with lore?

I know we don't know much about the Au'Ra yet but I wanted to see what the lore folk on the forums think about this question. Does it not seem like a conflict in the story can arise when you consider an Au'Ra dragoon? Their half dragon, doesn't it seem contrary to their nature to be dragon killers or at the least a little ironic to have an Au'Ra dragoon? (this was the first question to hit my mind when I saw the new race.)

As you say, we don't know much yet. And we most certainly don't know for sure what they are "half" of, so I think it's too early to say there will be a lore conflict. Some fans think they're half-demons rather than half-dragons, especially given the look of male au'ra.

I'm sure the Lore Team had thought about the potential scenarios and plotted the story accordingly. Its track record so far has been pretty good, after all.

In other words, please look forward to it!

(By the way, is it "au'ra" or "au ra"? I don't recall seeing an apostrophe in the official slides.)

Your absolutely right it's Au Ra not Au'ra. I saw it spelled on the forums like that in one place but after looking up the slides you are correct. Also, I like the idea of them being half demons. I hadn't thought of that which is why I posted the thread. Just curious what people are thinking about the new race with regards to the lore and how it meshes together with the different jobs, dragoon being the one I focused on. Though if it is true they are half demon, that would go well with DRK and BLM. Makes me wonder how their starting stats differ from other races. By their build I would think STR/VIT but if they are half demon I would also think high INT. Just toying with the different possibilities based of the info we have.. Curious what scenarios others are thinking with regards to the Au Ra

Yeah, I too remember reading something about Dragoons of the Holy See, with one chosen Azure Dragoon.

Just because they have scales and horns, doesn't technically make them "Draconian". Though, Ishgard may still think otherwise. There's also very little chance the race was spawn from St. Shiva, being that the Au Ra are from an entirely different continent and culture.

The demon idea sounds interesting, but chances are they're just a beastly, slightly reptilian, humanoid.

I'm betting that the dragon-like race coming with dragon-themed expansion wasn't done for story or lore reasons, seeing that 2.2 and Yugiris' introduction had absolutely nothing to do with Ishgard. It's probably more that the Dev. team wanted to implement a "wildly different" 6th race and it just happened to line up for 3.0, regardless of its' content.

There will be big changes in Ishgard I'm sure, enough to allow them to be able to be in Ishgard and not being immediately killed for being the result of a terrible Sin for Ishgard. The main problem might be the 2.xx quest, maybe you'll be forced to wear a mask in coerthas if you didn't complete 2.5 quests.

Dragoons aren't specifically Dragon Hunters, at least not Adventurer Dragoons, the Ishgard ones certainly are but then every Ishgardian is basically a Dragon Hunter.

If anything, an Au Ra Dragoon makes more sense if they're part Dragon; Dragoons take power from Dragons (specifically Nidhoggs Eye), which is where they get the power for their Jumps. If Au Ra are half Dragon then they'd already have some of that power in theory, and thus make natural Dragoons. I actually wonder how they're going to sort out Dragoons lore, since there was a big thing about their only being able to be one at a time (lorewise I think Yoshida said we're meant to ignore other players), but then 3.0s trailer shows us a whole group of them...

As for half-Dragons killing Dragons... It's no different than any of the existing races slaughtering all the humanoid enemies currently in the game, is it? Dragons are bad so we kill them, just like Garleans, Tempered, Pirates, etc., are all bad so we have no issue with Miqo'te killing Coeurlclaws.

The dragoons are an elite corp of the best lancers in Ishgard, and among them, only one is chosen by Nidhogg's Eye to become an azure dragoon, which one you became. There is no problem with having an entire army of dragoons fighting in Ishgard with that.

If I'm wrong, then it'll be a hell of an headache to sort it out

This is correct, as I recall. The Azure Dragoon is chosen from the other dragoons... except the player character.
