Au'ra conflict with lore?

I know we don't know much about the Au'Ra yet but I wanted to see what the lore folk on the forums think about this question. Does it not seem like a conflict in the story can arise when you consider an Au'Ra dragoon? Their half dragon, doesn't it seem contrary to their nature to be dragon killers or at the least a little ironic to have an Au'Ra dragoon? (this was the first question to hit my mind when I saw the new race.)

As you say, we don't know much yet. And we most certainly don't know for sure what they are "half" of, so I think it's too early to say there will be a lore conflict. Some fans think they're half-demons rather than half-dragons, especially given the look of male au'ra.

I'm sure the Lore Team had thought about the potential scenarios and plotted the story accordingly. Its track record so far has been pretty good, after all.

In other words, please look forward to it!

(By the way, is it "au'ra" or "au ra"? I don't recall seeing an apostrophe in the official slides.)

There will be big changes in Ishgard I'm sure, enough to allow them to be able to be in Ishgard and not being immediately killed for being the result of a terrible Sin for Ishgard. The main problem might be the 2.xx quest, maybe you'll be forced to wear a mask in coerthas if you didn't complete 2.5 quests.

Your absolutely right it's Au Ra not Au'ra. I saw it spelled on the forums like that in one place but after looking up the slides you are correct. Also, I like the idea of them being half demons. I hadn't thought of that which is why I posted the thread. Just curious what people are thinking about the new race with regards to the lore and how it meshes together with the different jobs, dragoon being the one I focused on. Though if it is true they are half demon, that would go well with DRK and BLM. Makes me wonder how their starting stats differ from other races. By their build I would think STR/VIT but if they are half demon I would also think high INT. Just toying with the different possibilities based of the info we have.. Curious what scenarios others are thinking with regards to the Au Ra

Dragoons aren't specifically Dragon Hunters, at least not Adventurer Dragoons, the Ishgard ones certainly are but then every Ishgardian is basically a Dragon Hunter.

If anything, an Au Ra Dragoon makes more sense if they're part Dragon; Dragoons take power from Dragons (specifically Nidhoggs Eye), which is where they get the power for their Jumps. If Au Ra are half Dragon then they'd already have some of that power in theory, and thus make natural Dragoons. I actually wonder how they're going to sort out Dragoons lore, since there was a big thing about their only being able to be one at a time (lorewise I think Yoshida said we're meant to ignore other players), but then 3.0s trailer shows us a whole group of them...

As for half-Dragons killing Dragons... It's no different than any of the existing races slaughtering all the humanoid enemies currently in the game, is it? Dragons are bad so we kill them, just like Garleans, Tempered, Pirates, etc., are all bad so we have no issue with Miqo'te killing Coeurlclaws.

Honestly, The Au Ra would only be threatened by the ishgarudians because of their "Half-Dragon" look. Thus probably why Yugiri is in desgise currently. But rememember as well, Au Ra are from Othard, an Othard may verry well have dragons of it's own and, assuming there are, inevitably some were evil and needed to be killed too.

Vut with the Au Ra' apperence, it's really no diffrent from the Miqo'te when you think about it. Miqo'te are cat people, but do we acuse them of being Couruel sympathisers? No because it's a beast and a Miqo'te is a person. Litteraly the only exception would be Ishgaurd and we're only one more patch away from kicking in The Gates of Judgment and setting The Archbishop's happy wagon streight any way. So what Ishgaurd thinks about them will probably be irrelevent as I'm not sure the Archbishop or his crusaid either one will survive into the Heaven's ward expantion. After all the winds of change are already stiring in Courthas thanks to us.

I don't think Au Ra is the finalized translation since the description of the wind-up odin minion mentions a theory about why his name sounds far eastern being that he took it from an Auri he killed. And seeing as how Yugiri is an Au Ra/Auri from Doma (which is on the eastern continent of Othard) this would definitely make sense.

although it could be the other way around and we will have wait for the localization team to clarify which translation is accurate/final.

This isn't a good counterexample; coeurl may be wild beasts, but dragons certainly are not. Dragons are intelligent, thinking beings, capable of holding grudges and waging wars. Coeurl are just animals. If coeurl were intelligent creatures who had waged war against Eorzea for centuries then it's quite possible that many people would look upon Miqo'te with suspicion.

As for Yugiri's disguise, since it will make little sense for her to be in disguise to hide her race once Au Ra adventurers are waltzing around without a care in the world as to whether they're seen or not, it's my theory that it will turn out that she's not hiding her face to disguise her race, but rather she's hiding her face because it is hideously scarred, or something along those lines.

Speaking of which, I wonder what the plans are for being able to start as an Au Ra. It might be odd going through the 2.2 Main Story Quest where Yugiri can't show her face because she's an Au Ra, if the player is an Au Ra running around in a glamoured subligar.
