Yesterday I fought an A-rank hunt with only 9 people. The giant mob never came. It was actually a real battle. It wasn't a hard battle, but it was actually like fighting a monster instead of a piñata. I enjoyed it.

Maybe your server was different, but when hunts were as prevalent as they were, there was nobody running Coil 2 or Ramuh EX unless you already had a static. People will always go for the easiest path possible when it comes to higher level gear, and that was hunts to get your free i110 gear. If you're not screwing people who do hunts, you're screwing people who currently do not have Coil on farm.
The community has already decided how hunts versus Coil will go. One will get picked, and the other is going to be left in the dust. That's the reality of having end game loot in content that should not have end game loot.
Personally I've stoped doing verry much at all in the game as of 2.4. Sol is still obseanly low, The Jump indificulty from lvl 70 hm dungeons (Which in SV's case was easyer than the normal one) to lvl 80 dungeons just proves that iLvl's are absolutly meaningless. As a lvl 106 Drg I can barly pass the dps check for the 2.4 dungeons while teaming with 3 more iLvl 100+ partymembers. At this rate it proves the theory stated with the EX-prinals and 1st coil. Any time a Dev posts a minimum item level add 30 for a 4 player instance and 50 for an 8 player instance. Plus making the rewards so meaningless when compaired to the content has made me hang up my spear possibly forever.
Now with Hunts nerfed to the point of futility I now no longer desire to compleat my atma relic either because It wont ammount to any thing now that Alexandrite has been made more dificult still to obtain.
People are complaining about having to do dungeons?
But... this is what the game is. Dungeons. Primals. Raids. They're the main-courses to the side-dishes of hunts and the like.
If you're playing the game only so long as you have shortcuts that make it so you don't have to play the game, why are you playing the game?
Put another way: You're paying money to play a game, and now you're mad that you have to play the game. Why are you playing at all? Why not do something you actually enjoy?
I haven't spent a lot of time in MMOs, but my growing impression of core-MMO players is that they're just constantly angry and unhappy about the state of things, yet they continue to make deep investments. Why stick around? What's the motivation? Is it the investment?
I know this thread is about hunts, so forgive if off-topic, but this is something deeper I'm genuinely curious about.
I feel Allied Seals cost for the Bloodied book should be reduced.
Since the removal of the weekly loot restriction on Syrcus Tower, anyone can farm this raid for Oil of Time, Sands of Time and Unidentified Allagan Tomestones. Considering that a single ST run lasts around 40 minutes and could potentially lead to obtaining several of these, having to accumulate 500 Allied seals for 2 books or 750 for 3 books in order to get ONE Oil or ONE Sand is pretty excessive. No one is going to waste their Allied Seals on these as long as it's quicker and more convenient to run ST.

Im sorry you feel that you need to control how others like to play. Personally I hate dungeons they are boring and monotonous. Just because you or others like dungeons dosent mean every one should and that also means that other players should not be forced into doing something so monotonous as those damn instanced dungeons or primals. I am sure there are others that are so sick and tired of the same song and dance with both dungeons and primals. Hunts gave us some of what we wanted and thats open world content.
As I said in my own feedback of 2.4.... I LOVE how the hunt is right now, because it is something either optional either to do when bored, either to do for Novus rush, not anymore, it is not anymore THE WAY to do everything fast and quick and super easy just by teleport and spam skills. It is awesome how the hunt is right now, please, do never change it... It is an optional content now, not something we must do. (And to be honest, dungeons should always be on top for those kind of things, you have to sweat a little, and you know... Depending of how good you do it, the faster... In a hunt it doesn't matter your effor, it doesn't count.)
LOLno. Because of hunts back during the 2.3 days no one cares about doing anything else since you pretty much get almost everything from Hunts. Oils? Check. Sands? Check. Myth and Sols? Check. No one does dungeons or Coils and it's not an "open world group" activity. It's all about seeing the position in your Hunt LS chat, tele there, some jerk pulls too early, zerg the hunt, and you get your easy rewards.
[QUOTE=maxthunder1;2558237] So hunts is not boring and monotonous as well? Standing around, teleport to the place, pull, zerg zerg zerg, dont have to do correct rotations for your Job or even dodge aoes, get your reward, move and wait for the next spawn?
Sounds pretty or even more boring to me.
Well if you do enjoy Hunts... do you enjoy it because of the content OR because of the rewards? Seriously people only care about Hunts since it gives Sands and Oils and people were like "OMG I DONT HAVE TO DO SECOND COIL BECAUSE I SUCK BUT I CAN HAVE GOOD GEARS BY JUST WAITING FOR SOMETHING TO SPAWN AND ZERGING THE HECK OUT OF IT!". Seriously if you want the cool items you gotta do the harder content - that's how progressive MMOs works. SE is kind enough to give the Relic questline for those who prefer grinding than doing endgame content, which gives a really strong weapon when it reaches Nexus.
Just to say, dear sir, your opinions are almost like if you'd take them out from my mind and write them for me. Totally agree with you about the damn hunt, thanks for explaining it to the others... (Seriously, 2.3 was a PATH-BREAKER....2.4 now finally solves it and people whines? Can't understand it. Hunt is what it should have been now, an alternative, just that... NOW IT IS EVEN MORE ENJOYABLE... Because there are less people doing it and it is funnier and interesting to fight. (At certain hours you can enjoy doing your A fights with just one full party or two around)
But it stills being the same, wait for linkshell, teleport, zerg, nothing more. It doesn't even deserve to be called hunt properly, nobody is out there searching at all and exploring Eorzea to find the monsters... They just wait for linkshells, and in the case they find it by casualty then they also post.
Enjoyable is pretty subjective, though I do agree that hunts were previously OP'd in the rewards they give. In the end though, it's still a pretty stupid implementation that they really never hit a middle ground for. It's an over-glorified world spawn that used to give Overpowered rewards, now it's an over-glorified world spawn that only really gives overpriced rewards (the hunting set glamour goes around 600 seals for one piece last I checked, and dear god why is the twin adder one so bad ugly).
Top that off with users still running into some issues as far as S ranks loading up, or just the hunts in genral being an overall douchebag with their placements for a leveling/new player
To the people crying over having to run the same dungeons forever to cap Poetics:
Ex Roulette rewards 75 Poetics, with that, you only need to do 6. You don't even need to do High Roulette to cap in a week. If you do just 1 Ex Roulette a day starting at reset, you will cap by Sunday.
I don't see how running these new dungeons is boring compared to running through a zone when a mob window is open, waiting 5-10mins for people to assemble, then hardly seeing what happens to the mob for 20-50 Soldiery tomes - Especially when you only have to do it once a day.
Agree to your point. In my server at least hunts are still very active because:
- Some people loves the concept.
- Others who didn't, now love it because there are less people, it feels better and more challenging now.
- It stills being the best way to get novus fast.
- It is a good way to get some extra soldiery while waiting for a queue or other thing. (You just go two minutes, kill the monster, gain half of what you'd gain in a 20 min dungeon).
I personally still hunting with some friends, not that frenzy of 2.3, but when I'm bored waiting for queue, I need extra soldiery for Animus and I can't afford to buy soldiery gear, so allied seals are used for obtaining the 110 gear instead.
In my opnion, now hunting is awesome, likeable, not forced anymore, and even has some attractive because not so many people spamming it (Except S ranks)
For the love of god please do NOT give Poetics with Hunts any more than you do. When people were running around on their first class at level 30 bragging how they have a full 90 set waiting for them when they hit 50 that's an issue. When you haven't learned any party mechanics, or class skills and just spam buttons in open-world button mash fests and then get into HM content completely clueless how to function in parties it not only makes it discouraging for that player when they hit a wall but a bad experience for the other folks who now get lumped with someone who is 100% unaware of what they are doing. I understand moving content along and that's a good thing to catch people up to end game. But let it be earned more via actual content rather than run here - spam attack - run here - spam attack. That's pretty weak.
I never really liked hunts to begin with, it was just an overglorified world boss. Post 2.4 is no different, though there are signifcantly les people sacking A ranks now...much to the frustration to some players when that Tonberry spawns next to the ninja npc.
It's just...they could've done better if they wanted to, like tie it to actual tracking or conditional spawning without extremely vague/misleading tips (looking at you, Gerlok), among other things.
I think the Seal costs need some adjustment but overall I think the hunts are fine now. If the argument is that it's the only open world content then put something else, not something as absurd as 2.3 hunts.
I don't see a problem with the hunts. I just see a problem with the cost of gear that you buy with allied seals. The jump from 90 allied seals for myth gear to 600 for soldiery gear was like...WOW. And its not even unweathered. Only reason to do hunts now are for sands/oils and glamour really.
Glamour items that doesn't even make any sense. You do realize you can buy the blood logs using allied seals thus buying sands of time to uprade further???? So yeah they blew it on the rewards from hunts. Alot of people including myself don't like to do dungeons, mainly because of the cry babies in the duty finder
But when hunts released, people complained: "progression only available to the highest tier of players is now available to everyone with significantly less effort and time. Why are the developers doing this?! *rage*"
I'm sorry, but just like in real life, it takes effort to get the best jobs, relationships, and "gear". Paying SE $14 a month doesn't mean they're going to hand you bleeding-edge end game progression on a silver platter. You still have to play their game. Hunts are fixed. Not perfect, but fixed.
I don't raid. I don't have a static. I don't get that gear. I'm okay with that, because I'm not ready to put that level of work in. Those people that do should be rewarded.
I personally like the adjustment,
I do not find it fun personally just camping Fate/Hunts. But now I've been in random zones 3 times and go into hunt parties. Which never happened before because the mob would always be dead by the time I got to it.
They didn't.
The new gear in patch 2.4 works exactly like it did in 2.2.
People challenging the current coil turns get a chance at coil gear + the key items to boost poetics. (Keep in mind, only 1-2 of these items might drop a week for each group, and they have to 'share' it...so it's still exceptionally rare even for a coiler to get said key item).
People not challenging it only have access to unboosted poetics.
That said, once 2.5 comes out, the final chapter of Crystal Tower will likely have the same boost key items.
So yes, if you don't challenge coil, you're being rewarded 'slower' but seriously, the ilvl 110-120 gear is enough to challenge AND beat everything in the game atm....everything else is overkill. And no, if you aren't doing the hardest content, you shouldn't be able to earn the 'best' rewards....especially at a faster rate than those actually doing the content. People got gear upgrades way too fast this summer with hunts. It's been fixed. Get use to it. Things are finally back to working 'as intended'
With the reduction of tomestones (both Soldiery and Poetics, when compared to the previous Myth and Soldiery rates) there should have been at least an increase in Allied Seals as well as an increase % for Blood-Spattered Mark Logs. As they are right now hardly anybody really does them anymore on my server and this is because they just aren't worth doing anymore. They offer little to no incentive to actually participate in the content anymore.
So if you're going to nerf the tomestone rewards, buff the rewards of the Allied Seals at least.
Yes! I think this is the biggest difference between hunts before and after. It's something now everyone can participate in if they want to, where as before you had no hope of getting much credit for a mark if you weren't already in a party (even if you managed to make it in time).
If there is one adjustment I'd like to see, I'd like to see either more allied seals drop per mark, or a decrease in cost for the i70 GC hunt items.
Like the previous poster said, an increase in Blood-splattered logs would be good too. Right now they're not quite enough rewards for hunts to encourage wider participation (but I am enjoying the level of participation on my server for now)
It's funny that people are comparing Unweathered gear to High Allagan gear, when in actuality, BiS is a combination of both. Stop acting as if all the work in Coil is suddenly squandered by people not needing coil. Furthermore, Hunts allowed people to get more than one sand/oil a week because even though there wasn't a loot lockout in coil, there was an entry lockout once you completed it. Therefore, even for people that could raid, if they were low on the totem poll in terms of receiving drops from coil, Hunts were the only way for them to get sand/oil at a decent pace.
Even though there is no longer an entry limit to 2COB, people still need 7 other competant players. Furthermore, with the loot lockout removed from ST, people are more prone to lootwhoring just because. Lowering the Allied Seal requirement for Logs and i100 gear would allow people to reasonably catch up even if they didn't do dungeons/raid.
imo theres nothin wrong with hunts atm ppl are complaining cause cant just zerg hunts all day for quick n easy rewards?? *facepalms*
Of course they are going to do hunts less when before you could get 80 myth and 20 seals per A rank, so every 10 A ranks you could get 2 alexandrite via a map but now you cant...
Patch 2.3:
20 seals + 80 myth x10 = 200 seals 800 mythology = 2 alexandrite (1 being from a map obtained from tomes.)
Patch 2.4:
20 seals + 20 soli x10 = 200 seals 200 soldiery = 1 alexandrite (and only half way to obtaining a map.)
The rewards are now lower even for old content.
On top of this, the three new dungeons are supposed to be "harder" thus its "harder" to get alexandrite from the daily quest.
So its now much more slower at obtaining alexandrite except if you did FATEs, but yeah the drop rate for alx from FATEs is absurd.
Novus is old content, why is it now more time consuming?
Hm...... I think its working as intended. Ppl doing dungeons is probably what SE wanted? Cuz i'm sure tht hunts was just a terrible thing for the forums, community and gear progression.
Made raiders who got loot from scob go like wtf? We worked hard for our drops.
Made casuals go like QQ can't even get credit.
Made dedicated casuals go like awwwww yeah LFG hunts in all of their elite hunt LSs.
Made the majority rage when things got pulled early and started fights on the chat / forums due to some guy just wanting to pull it asap.
Sooo im sure hunts will get revamped in 3.0. Cuz we all know how important hunts were XD.
Hunts was a one-stop-shop for almost everything, this nerf was needed, now people have to actually (dare I say it) play their jobs to progress, rather than waiting for someone to find a mark while half the people "AFK" in hunts linkshells until a reward for doing practically nothing in dangled in front of them.
Yes i understand, and even agree that hunts shouldnt completely trump other content. Its supposed to be balanced.
--- but--- you completely missed my point.
I even put it in bold and with blue letters and made a comparison using an example from 2.3 and 2.4 and everything.
It is now more time consuming to obtain alexandrite.
After patch 2.0 with patch 2.1 or 2.2 was it i dont remember, i was able to get all zenith weapons in a matter of a few weeks (2-3 top i dont remember, i just remember it was super easy.)
Now from patch 2.3 to patch 2.4 it has gone from being able to easily get 3 alexandrite per day (doing 3 hours of hunts to get 200 seals and 800 myth) and your daily, to now just getting 2.5 alexandrite per day (doing 3 hours of hunts and the daily which was originally Lost City, Halatali Hard and Brayflox hard, now its been bumped up not only 1 set of additional dungeons but two full sets.)
Note: The item level requirement to enter Brayflox is i55, while the second set of dungeons is i70 for Stone Vigil hard, and i80 for Snowcloak.
Allied seals received should've doubled. It's mostly for glam anyway.
