People believe they are entitled to all the minions too. Everyone pays the same price so everyone should get full access to the blue bird?
Being able to have all the gil lined up is RNG. People sold their blue birds to 2 mil or whatever. Most players are lucky to be at 500K after leveling 2 alt classes plus their main.
and they CAN have the blue brid, they can have luck with RMT or buy it... it's not the case with the house as they are really limited
Hate to kick the hornets nest but people need to calm down. This is obviously a huge deal to alot of people so it's gonna get fixed. They made a mistake. Have some patience.
Getting enough gil ahead of the curve ahead of 99% of the people requires some serious RNG. Whether it is lucky dungeon drops or doing tons of HQ crafting and getting lucky on that RNG on a consistent basis and/or mining and gathering getting lucky on the RNG to drop you the HQ mats to use or sell or get lucky on the RNG treasure maps. Unless you can play 24/7 nonstop since release date and saved every gil (like ride your chocobo instead of teleporting), you will not be able to save the millions of gil needed for the lots. The people that have the funds saved up, have gotten lucky off the RNG consistently over time and made smart decisions with that gil.
I believe SE needs to scrap the idea after 2.4 and stop wasting time on housing and produce more content.
If this is the way the community is going to act over a house then SE should wait a later date.
I keep seeing people saying gardening and the chocobo stable
Well then SE should just give you guys gardening in your INN rooms in town and chocobo ranch or something like they did in FF7 and let people leave their chocobos there and color them.
Too me the small house I got is useless its only there to play dress up if anything it was a huge gil waste I make no gil off gardening what you spend on seed and soil because market is flooded.
pretty soon after those plots get houses all the chocobo food and coloring foods will probably be around 50 gil a piece lol the one who cares about the house is my woman
But it won't make sense because furnishing couldn't be used that is crafted which would make the price drop.
SE wasn't really thinking ahead on this and why I say scrap and bring it back a later date.
For me Housing is one of the fun things I enjoy in a game because you can make your own home the way you want to design it. It is fun because it a Vanity you can design towards your personal style or idea by using what is provided in the game. It not about making myself feel special but about having fun with a part of the game not designed for character progress and to have a break from character progressing while still playing the game.
Want to make a Haunted house? Design your own personal house to look spooky looking like a Haunted House.
Want to make your own Beach style house? Design it with Limsa Lominsa themed housing stuff and things you would find interesting for a Beach house.
Want to make a Christmas style House? Design the House using special Christmas items and other things that would fit into your own ideal Christmas Style House.
Want to make a normal looking house that a NPC would have in FF14? Look around the world of FF14 and use the design in the game to make that house style you saw while exploring in FF14 but could never make until you get a Personal housing.
Ya it is a waste of time in a Video Game with no possible unique benefit that FC House doesn't already have along with its only purpose is for players to make their own ideal House in a Video Game World or make one out of fun and that players could use that time wasted on Housing for Gear Progressing, making loads of Gil, reaching top tier Endgame, and stuff but that the point of a Video Game. To waste time while having fun wasting that time.
Not interested in personal housing at all, sounds like a terribly lonely way to go about things.
To me this just seems like an easy scheme for them to extract some of the cream off the top of the economy. From all accounts it's been pretty successful.
Actually, during the 14-hour broadcast, they did mention that they were planning on providing a way for people to access the chocobo training features even without a house. So I suspect this is actually something that is in the works. If they could do this and provide a way for people to garden either within inn rooms or personal rooms in FC housing, that would probably help quell some of the current frustration with the lack of space while they work to expand capacity.
I'm not upset about prices, it is nice to gain something with some effort. My problem is 500 fc members sharing the garden. I thought personal housing was going to fix the garden problem.
Nope ppl are still going to horde the FC gardens because of the lack of homes and/or gil to get one.
To those who wanted instanced housing - join FC and buy personal chamber. Devs already said they are working on making chocobo stabling accessible to everyone and they think about adding gardening to personal chambers (I am not sure if it is possible though).
I thought there will be wards for private housing but I can live with having same wards for FC and personal housing - I even think it is much cooler especially if I manage to get house in same ward where my FC is located. About pricing - your instanced personal room cost 300 000 gil. If you want big house and make neighbours jelly then pay the price for house and don't whine it cost too much.
I also don't know if I will get house at 2.4 because I have to work at time when servers are back up - guess I might have to wait for even after 2.4. That is not an issue.
I personally agree with OP in this....what is the big fuss about this ? you can buy you buy you cant you dont...pretty simple.
@Seravi
From the moment it isnt a *necessity* as in necessity to continue to play, then it remaines a conveniecen and more then not a vanity, just me though.
Prices are set you agree you pay you cant you dont pay, you disagree you do not pay and go on your merry way, you are jealous of those that can ? why ? are they more happy then you ? frankly screams over a virtual house/place to stay is just ...silly..
But hey..everybody has the right to see it the way they want and nobody needs to agree with it.
On a side note, what would forbid a FC leader (s) once they get a house paid by the members to throw everyone out and just keep it for themselves ?

Availability will never be where it should be: https://i.imgur.com/g1Zcr2L.png
No matter how many wards they add. Zero thought went into there planning for housing and straight up lied about it. That pisses anyone off.
I find personal Houses to be boring, I love private chambers. Sharing a house with friends and have your personal rooms for your own decoration taste.
I think SE should have just dropped inns and made them personal houses instead...
NQ stuff loses you funds. The time you spend on them won't get you ahead of 99% of the people, nor will it get you the millions needed to get a house. Go ahead NQ all your crafts and see how long it takes to generate funds. A shard is 100 gil give or take. Just because you think you get for free from mining, doesn't properly account for is relative value. If you sell NQ items you be hard pressed to make cover even the shards you put in the time you put in, you might as well just farm shards and sell them straight up. At 100 gil per shard you are looking at 10,000 shards to get a mil. But it will probably take you 5 hours to get 1000 shards, and so maybe 40 to 50 hours of game time of nonstop gathering to get to 10,000 shards.
So that will not earn you the millions you need anytime soon. Of course if you flood the market with shards the shard prices will drop too. Not to mention you will be bored out of your mind collecting those shards. And that is ignoring the fact that the right HQ items can often sell for 10x the NQ items which blindly ignoring the efficency of the matter. Being able to get the funds to get a house is RNG, just indirect RNG, and you have more options to make your own luck along the way. The problem is people think they should be entitled to in game personal housing, and ignore the fact the FC room is their guaranteed personal housing for the entitled.
People have different values on what is fun.
For you what is fun is progressing your character to be the very best or some what near being the best.
For some people it is about designing their character the way they want their character to look.
For others it simple to enjoy content of the game to pass time.
While Hardcore players will find seeking to complete the hardest content as fun.
But another group can find achievement gains fun.
In the end it about different values of what is fun and Housing is the Vanity type of fun designed for players that want to design things for their own characters. What went wrong currently is that the content that is designed for little character progressing is currently locked down into limited amount of space and for people who have stored a large amount of gil for it.
You may not understand why people are upset about it because you don't see designing your own personal house fun but people who find designing their own personal fun feel cheated that part of the game they will find fun is locked from them.
I know, it's something never seen before...!!

To put it in another depliction. It would be akin to telling someone who really enjoys raiding "Were sorry but we can only support 100 instances of Coils, 50 instances of EX Primals and 25 instances of ST per week, server wide. First come first serve. If this was the case wouldn't raiders feel cheated too?
As many are trying to say, customization/vanity-stuff is an integral and large part of the game; hence why things like the glamour system, chocobo barding, emotes, minions, even the ability to be different races are all part of the game.
Do they boost your stats, increase your ilvl, or affect other other major systems of the game? No, not really, but they are still a big part of the game and people's enjoyment of it because they add flavor and personalization to the experience.
Making a big mistake, as many people consider it to be, on an integral part of the game is what people are mad about.
To some this aspect of the game is just as important as end-game raiding or crafting, not to me but I am not everyone nor do I speak for everyone but I can see what the situation is and rationalize and empathize.
It is a FC where you screen people. The default rank does not get access to take stuff from the entire FC chest. People learn and get to know each other. It is a great way to earn your bad reputation to take stuff and sell it and never contribute. Guess what those people can be asked to leave the FC. The more valueable stuff will require a higher rank in the FC. And in our FC we have people in charge of the garden and share the stuff that grows out of there.
People will supply seeds and soil from gathering and people will get the stuff that comes out of that to feed their chocobo. Lots of people in our FC got their chocobo colored just fine, and we are not talking about some 3 person tiny FC.
---------------
A FC leader pulling a stunt like this will have their reputation ruined instantly. Everyone will know what they did and they may even get reported to the GM. Also people will select their FC leader very carefully, not just any unknown player in the FC gets to be a FC leader.
----------------
This is such a bad analogy. Personal house is a trophy vanity item. You can share a FC house and get all you need from there, including your own personal room to decorate as you like. BTW SCOB has lock out so that is not a free for all and unlimited either, and it is central to the gameplay and in no ways comparable to vanity items.
We get it, personal housing or housing at all might not be an important in-game feature for some of you. For others it is a long awaited addition. I don't care why housing is important to someone. Who cares if the entire reason they wanted it was to full a house full of hot tubs and stuffed moogles. It doesn't matter why but they have the right to be disappointed and to vent their frustration at the current system.
Too bad that doesn't work if it's the FC leader who's stealing stuff. In my previous FC, even after I was put in charge of the garden, I never got to see the results of anything I grew there, as the FC leader always grabbed everything for himself. It's a bit hard to manage a garden without even getting to see what the yield is, let alone getting a chance to distribute any of it. (Too bad. It was a great FC with its original leader. It was only after she left the game that her successor drove it into the toilet.)
OP - you are entitled to your opinion but those of us that were looking forward to certain content have a right to be annoyed. We appreciate if you do not try to tell us how to feel or how to play the game - we will extend the same courtesy to you.
But but but raiding is meant for the super hardcore and should only be available for the super hard core to complete!! Not everyone is meant to raid and should be kept for only those select few!!
lol just.....stop please. Please tell me though how SCOB (optional content. Not everyone likes to raid or wants to raid) is central to game play and ever so needs to be open to everyone but basic function isn't and is supposed to be this /trophy/ item you seem to enjoy throwing around like its a status symbol. News flash hun, it isn't. Exactly like raiding should be open to everyone, so is basic function. Maybe its best you do some research into what is "vanity" and what is "basic function" but I'll explain it slowly.
Housing at its most smallest level...is basic function. Letting the player have total access to the basic game play mechanics at the start for next to nothing....because its basic....just as basic is to talking to the NPC outside BCOB and BOOM! suddenly RAIDER basic! See gardening for example.
Now that we covered the basics that should be open to all players. I.E for players to decide for themselves, no no no no the FC argument doesn't work here either because players shouldn't feel forced to join FC's and the personal room doesn't alleviate the issue because YUP! Back to basic functions and garden space is limited! As you no doubt have experienced being in a FC with 69 active members in a small house with only 1 tiny 8 plot garden to go around. ANYWAY!! lets move onto the vanity part!!
The vanity part in housing comes purely from the decorations. Nothing more..yep...that's the vanity part. Not the owning! Coz lets be honest here, were living in a day where these /status symbols/ only matter to one person. The person owning it. I really hate to burst any bubbles but honestly? No random person cares. Just like the person upon getting their relic weapon completion who's first mission with it is to stand AFK for hours in a crowded location while believing everyone else runs by them looking in jealous awe of this God among the unwashed masses!! Guess what they don't lol. They run by and without even so much as a glance...No stranger cares. My three person FC has a very nice decorated house, no group beats a path to our door to see it...No one cares but us. That's how vanity works. Not basic functions.
my problem with the topic is why OP's even questioning the importance of housing in this game? presumably s/he is not a huge MMORPG player, s/he has never had a house in other MMORPGs, never RP'ed, has little to no desire for customization--because if this is the case then OP, your basic understanding of MMORPGs is faulty, you better get off that high horse, and educate yourself.
there's no need to elaborate why I'm also disappointed with personal housing, as many have already laid out valid points, though I'm still optimistic that this fiasco is only temporary.
